  1. Hi, my frontload Daewoo WM decided to retire over the weekend after 3.5 years. Can't decide whether to go for LG of Samsung for my next washer. LG runs on direct drive while Samsung runs on belt. Need advice....Thanks!
  2. Hi, for espresso machine owners, not Nespresso please, no offense intended to Nespresso. Espresso owners, your opinion, brand using, grinder. I'll start first, using a 3 group Faema with Anfim Doserless Grinder. Looking for a Single Group HX model now, E61 group head. I'd like your opinions. 1. Rocket Giotto 2. La Marzocco GS/3 3. Alex E61 Rotary 4. La Scala Butterfly 5. Expobar Brewtus III/V In no order of merit. Feel free to add into the list. I'm clearing off my 3 group to a friend of mine, who wants to "play around" with it. Not worth repairing, so I'm looking to downscale to a 1 group. All recommendations very much appreciated. Grinder wise, I already ordered a Mazzer Doserless. On the way. Old grinder also going to go.
  3. Anyone brought this cheaper alternative to Nespresso? This machine doesnt come with milk frother...but I know Best Denki gives free frother...how does it look like? And also...there is no shop selling martello capsules..would we go into trouble if martello decided to stop selling caps if the market is not good in sg?

  7. HI All, Sorry i just wondering, we will see the washing machine always have a "able to handle weight" like for eg. this is a 8KG washing machine... how to we gauge the laundry is 8KG? is the weight with or without water ?? normally 8KG is how many pieces of clothes??? what about dryer ? is it the same? sorry it seemed to be a stupid question hehehehe

  10. Passed by an AXS machine earlier, and decided to pay for my recent parking fine there. Pressed on one of the quick link buttons on the touch-screen to pay. The machine prompted me to insert my ATM card, even before asking for car registration number. Smelling a fraud, I decided to re-start the transaction. Pressed the "Pay fines" button, then the "URA" button. The machine, again, prompted me to insert my ATM card. I put in the card. Machine prompted me to key in my PIN. I immediately aborted the transaction and kept my card. Anyone has similar encounter? Doesn't make sense at all that the payee authorise the NETS withdrawal even before anything was done. Just like signing a blank cheque.

  16. ....knn if I no job, wun help right???? putooi... anyway think i buy a wknd QQ as a parking lot reserve for my other cars.... Always will have that lot forever Best time to buy a car Small cars going for as low as $11,000 in the wake of $2 COE By Yeo Ghim Lay The made-in-China 800cc Chery QQ now costs $5,000 less than originally. Falling car and petrol prices have brought buyers back to car showrooms. -- ST PHOTO: DESMOND LIM THE economy is slowing down and jobs are in danger, but it seems like this is the best time to buy a car. Dealers selling smaller models say prices have fallen to record lows on the back of certificate of entitlement (COE) premiums for small cars falling to an unprecedented $2 on Wednesday. Prices at a glance HOW much some cars cost now, with weekend car prices in brackets: [*]Hafei Lobo (1,100cc, manual): $25,999 ($13,999)... moreThe made-in-China, 800cc Chery QQ now costs $22,999 for the manual model, $5,000 less than originally. And if a buyer goes for this as a weekend car, he need pay only $10,999, down from $12,999. The smaller models put out by other Chinese carmakers, such as the Hafei Lobo and the Chana Benni, are also going at all-time low prices. Mr Richard Wan, general manager of TTS Chana Automobile, said prices are at their lowest since the Chana was launched here in May. The 1,300cc manual Chana Benni now goes for $25,999, and its weekend version, for $13,999. Mid-sized cars are also going at discounts of up to $5,000, offered by retailers who are anticipating that the interest in cars will be fanned anew. The price tag on a 1,600cc manual Honda Civic is now $67,800, the lowest since its launch three years ago, said MrVincent Ng, product manager at authorised Honda agent Kah Motor. Before COE premiums plunged, it was going at more than $70,000. At Borneo Motors, which sells Toyota cars here, a 1,600cc automatic Toyota Corolla Altis is retailing at $55,488, about $5,000 cheaper. It was at an even lower $54,488 on Wednesday, but the price was jacked up by $1,000 yesterday when Borneo Motors received an influx of orders, said its sales manager Sam Koh. Another popular model, the Toyota Vios E Auto, now costs $46,488, also about $5,000 cheaper. The lower prices, along with news of COE premiums plummeting, have drawn healthy crowds to car showrooms in the last few days. Kah Motor's Mr Ng said: 'We're getting what looks like a weekend crowd on weekdays now. It's encouraging, especially after the past few months, when the showrooms were so quiet.' Vertex Automobile and Hafei Automobile (Singapore), which sell Chery and Hafei cars respectively, said they have had up to a third more walk-in customers. TTS Chana's Mr Wan said he has also had more people putting their names down for the next round of COE bidding. But while smaller cars are now cheaper, higher-end luxury models like those from Mercedes-Benz and BMW are still as expensive. A check with dealers found little change to price tags, largely because COEs for these larger-capacity cars were not hit by the drop in premiums. But a spokesman for Cycle and Carriage, which distributes Mercedes-Benz, said one of its rare promotions will be held this weekend as the market is still soft. Cars used for test drives will be on sale. An SLK, for example, will go for $178,000, compared to $196,888 for a new model. The combined effects of lower car prices for small cars and falling petrol prices - which were down to their lowest levels in nearly 20 months on Tuesday - are likely to send more potential buyers to car showrooms this weekend. However, one hurdle remains to be crossed - getting a car loan. Banks and finance houses are tightening access to credit. But dealers like Borneo Motors' Mr Koh remain optimistic. He said: 'Buying sentiments have increased significantly, so while it is now harder to get a loan, I believe the increase in orders will more than offset this.' [email protected]
  17. Thought of getting a game machine for family entertainment but at a loss on what to go with. Xbox, Nintendo, PSP and etc. How much are we looking at? beside the game console? any accessories and gadgets that have to be taken into consideration too? Would appreciate your expertise and input. Thank you very much. Regards,
  18. There is such a thing in the market right? I'm usually too lazy to polish so thinking of getting one of these.. how much is it and does it really do the job with minimal effort?
  19. Got 11-mth old pearl white Civic. Like most, did following routine weekly, but as time goes on, it is becoming fortnightly. 1. Wash (and clay once a blue moon) 2. AIO (Jeffs Werkstatt) 3. Sealant (Jeffs Werkstatt) (My aim is not to shine (hence didn't do wax LSP), but for water beading, protection, smooth. If got shine, it is just a by-product.) Always, this is a more than 3-hr job. By the time step #2 is done, my back is already breaking. End of the day, the result is satisfying, but the cost (time n effort) is on the high side. (read SIONG!) Being 11-mth old, I've minimal swirls marks, etc. and in my mind, machine polisher, etc is for removing swirls marks and other heavy-duty wax job. Where I'm coming from, it's to reduce my manual labor in the weekly wash/clean/sealant routine. I am thinking, can I invest in some polisher/buffer machine, or something (sorry maybe wrong technical term but I'm noob in this area) to reduce some of the "eat-strength" work? There is a thread discussing AC (220V) polisher but can someone put it in some kind of layman's start-up guide from pure manual labor?
  20. Another True Blue implementation SOLELY to make us Pay and Pay. They only care about the space to install the money sucking barrier/reader!! Don't care about the confusion and potential accident due to drivers who goes there. PHUI. Flipped carpark lanes dangerous? By Daryll Nanayakara Carparks with entry and exit points that are reversed - with entrance lanes on the right instead of the left, and exit lanes on the left instead of the right- may confuse some motorists. But builders told my paper that motorists safety and convenience was what they had in mind when they switched the direction of the entry lanes. "REALLY? just read the actual reason below. KNN PHUI" my paper readers wrote in last week to point out that due to the reversed directions, a conflict in movement which can be dangerous can arise when two cars enter and exit these carparks at the same time. Readers pointed out two carparks in the Orchard Road area and one linked to Elias Mall in Pasir Ris. When contacted, the Housing Board (HDB), which owns the carpark leading to Elias Mall, said that safety factors had been considered. It added that the CashCard and intercom machines had to be placed at the side of the road instead of the centre other similar HDB carparks have these machines at the centre divider due to space constraints when the carpark was built in 1995. The lanes were switched so that it would be easier for motorists to use the machines. Last week, this reporter stood near the entrance of the carpark and observed that several motorists hesitated and were slightly confused while turning into the premises. This despite two signs situated along the road warning motorists of the reversed direction. Businessman Benjamin Lek, 42, said: 'It is an unusual method of constructing the gantry to the carpark. Most drivers are used to entering on the left' However, according to the Land Transport Authority, a switch in direction is okay as long as it is justifiable "Justifiable to make money from all of us!" It is also important that motorists safety is not compromised. And safety concerns were what the developer of Tanglin Shopping Centre's carpark took into consideration in the 1970s. City Development Limited, the carpark's developer, said: 'As Tanglin Road is a one-way street, for safety reasons, motorists would have to enter the basement carpark on the right lane and exit from the left lane.' But the company added that the operator of the carpark, Wilson Parking, will explore drawing directional arrows to guide motorists who use the carpark.
  21. Hi guys, Was thinking to get a polishing Machine to use.Any recommended machines? Is the black and decker one good? I saw the meguiars G220 from the net but dont know whether is it available locally. Also, can normal wax and sealent be used for machine polish or must i get wax and sealent meant only for machine use?
  22. Hi all! I love doing DIY detailing on my ride. But washing thoroughly then waxing by hand can easily take up 4 hours. Not to mention an aching back and stiff fingers... So, I would like to invest in an orbital buffer but there doesn't seem to be much variety in the local shops. Most common model is the Black & Decker, available at HomeFix or Carrefour. Any reviews on this or other models? And where can I get them? A prerequisite is that it should be 'safe' enough to be handled by a first-timer like me... and 'safe' meaning that I won't cause catastrophic damage to my paintwork.. Hahaha
  23. I was watching the Channel U news a few minutes ago. There was a Taiwanese teacher who bought an oil extracting machine from Japan at S$20k. The operation looked simple. Just need to feed shattered pieces of plastic into the machine and after evaporation, oil could be extracted. Has anyone seen this machine before? How come it is not imported into Singapore? I want to buy one such machine; become a full-time plastic-collecting Karung guni and sell oil to fellow MCFers. I will follow the proper procedures, I will register as a thread sponser.
  24. Finally after couples of consideration...I took the plunge the try out Flex XC 3401 VRG R/O..I tested on a BMW 5 series and a Honda Stream separetely.. Damge for the machine is about SGD700 running on 230V..no step down transformer required...Maybe i am really mad but that hobby and passion... The flex is a R/O with 3600 to 9600 opm and a direct drive 160 to 480 rpm polisher.. The combination of orbital/direct drive puts the power/cutting abilities in between a Dual Action Random Orbital polisher (Porter Cable 7424/UDM) and a Rotary type polisher. This gives you greater cutting ability over a D/A, yet still easier and safer to use then a rotary. Flex weighs about 2.2KG and is much heavier compared to PC7424..The cutting ability on the Flex is definitely much faster than with a PC. ..The direct drive on the Flex can generate some heat and helps the polish break down quicker... The power and force rotation of the Flex also helps prevent the machine from bogging down under load or pressure...because of this forced rotation, the Flex can grabh..skip and fight you, similar to a rotary (not as severe), so it takes more control than it does with a PC... The flex comes with a 6inch backing plate and i am using 6.5" pads which I find is difficult to work on those small panel compare to PC7424 using 5.5" polishing pads.. Enough of poison..below are some pictures to share..
