  5. getting paranoid about less than smooth gear changes on my six year old honda. drove down to Khang's auto transmission at Sin Ming but it was closed... now a bus park ... and a car wash. Did the $6 snow wash, and was told by the folks there that Khang's closed end of 2011. Anyone know if they closed or shifted? Where else can I get my auto trans inspected and maintained - prefer a specialist so that they can be specific about the specific recommendations, and not just a blanket "overhaul".
  6. HI I am driving my new car for 5 years and the tyre since day 1 have not change yet. Since my car is an OPC and mileage is only 38K till now. The tyre trend is still going at 80% new. IS there any danger if I carry on using the present tyre for the next following years? Do I need to change all 4 piece? Will the tyre rubber get harden? Will it affect my braking distance? Please advise...
  7. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rtxm30NULU and how they do it. No wonder they never have a breakdown
  8. Hi Guys, any idea what's the usual warranty period for new alternator? Shell service centre says they give only 1 month warranty... Is it industry practice?
  9. i ask around some mech but seems there is 2 schools of thoughts regarding how to prolong compressor lifespan: 1. set thermostat to coldest, so that the compressor will keep running because if set to middle/lower, the compressor will shut on/off/on/off repeatedly which will shorten the lifespan of the compressor. 2. set thermostat to middle/lower, so that the compressor will cut off earlier, and the compressor will not need to work so hard continously to generate "freezing" air. anyone can comment?
  10. My car showed a warning light late yesterday and i went to workshop today. After using the computer to scan, showed that the fault is 'System running too lean', and that the air fuel sensor is faulty so needs replacement. Anyone kanna this type of problem before, and how much does it normally cost? tks...
  11. Hi Bro, I'm changing car soon, thinking of switching to korean brand. Wish to hear some feed back from you guys if korean cars are easily maintain in a long run as compare to the like of Toyota & Honda? Are parts easily available after many years if I choose to keep the car for long long time.
  12. Hi Bros, Was quoted 500++ to replace my Grandis starter... Is this ok? Sometimes I find it difficult to start, sometimes no problem. WS checked, and say its the stater problem...battery is ok. What do bros think of this price? Also need to change 2 more things upon checking... Mounting and back portion of the exhaust, gonna cost me a bomb! So planning to change the starter 1st as I dun want it to fail on me and can't start the car... Any comment on the price of this 2 items...
  13. Hi guys, wish to seek some advise from fellow drivers.. I have just replaced my wiper last year July. But recently, with the rain, I observed that my wiper isn't performing its task very well. And I am considering to changing my wiper. Some questions here: 1. Whats the recommended wiper in the market nowadays...? I am currently using Bosch Aerotwin Wiper. 2. Any maintenance or tips to take note to prolong the life of the wiper...? I am parking my ride in open space carpark, even in my company, there is no good tree shelter from the glaring sunshine. Some of my colleagues recommended leaving the wiper tilted up away from the windscreen to reduce the heat emited from the windscreen, but not sure if thats a BKM (Best Know Method) though. Many Thanks...
  14. Just bought a certified pre-owned 2011 E200CGI (W212) with the 5-speed gearbox... Anyone know in details the difference between servicing A and B at C&C? Heard it is just additional checks for B but have to leave car overnight which is really inconvenient. A is regular minor service cost around 480 while B goes at least 1k although usually will shoot to 2-3k which is kind of ridiculous. To avoid leaving the car overnight, some owners request for A (when B is needed) then change fluids at outside workshops to maintain warranty. Checked with SE and seems it's ok to change wear and tear items outside. I'm actually more concerned about when to change ATF and how many litres required... I was actually told by the SE that C&C usually don't change ATF during servicing since it's supposed to be "lifetime" (duh.. not that again...) So I intend to change ATF at 3rd party workshops, while going back to C&C for minimal servicing to maintain warranty. Would be great to have some info on when to change spark plugs and which ones to use too. Went though the owner's manual, and there's really nothing much in there in regards to type of ATF / amount required.. no info on spark plugs too. Thanks!
  15. Hi, anybody knows how to clean and maintain ur chrome shine? Dunno, what product should I use. Usually I wear it dry with cloth after car wash. Is it correct?
  16. Hi my friend is winding up her company for good, does anyone know any vendor that buy 2nd hand out of warranty, maintenance but serviceable IBM system x server, 3Com switch hub, server rack and telephoney system plus UPS
  17. Hi all bro/sis, does anyone here knows of any work shop / mechanics that have hands on experience with honda jazz/fit. My buddy and i are pretty concern of our cars landing in some work shop that understand nothing about our cars. FYI : there are some mechanics who replenishes CVT fluid with normal automactic gearbox oil and give you confused looks when you he says "What??!? your car has 8 spark plugs?"
  18. I hope this can become sticky. Here is the procedure if anyone wants to attempt it. It is simple. Bleeding the Power Steering System [ol] If the power steering hydraulic system has been serviced, an accurate fluid level reading cannot be obtained until the air is bled from the system. Follow these steps to bleed the air from the system.[*]Turn the wheels all the way to the left and add the power steering fluid to the MIN mark on the fluid level indicator.Notice : When adding fluid or making a complete fluid change, always use DEXRON
  19. Hi all, My wife is driving a 8 yrs old Toyota with 130K mileage. I'm thinking what sort of preventive maintenance to take note to avoid car breaking down on the road or fail to start in morrning. She uses the car to send my gal to school, so reliability is our top priority since we rely on it everyday. Those bro who have experience maintaining car till 200K km and beyond, pls share what parts should i be taking note or change before it fail on me. Things like radiator, water pump, fuel pump, alternator, air-flow sensor, what else?? How long can they last?
  20. hi, helping father-in-law to service his merc. decided not to send in to C&C since warranty period is over. anyone knows how much engine oil is required for oil change? and when to change ATF? how much and what type of ATF required appreciate any help. thanks
  21. Just want to share my experience on general car maintenance (conti and jap/Korean cars might differ): For Every 10,000km - change engine oil 20,000km - change brake fluid 30,000km - change tyres 60,000km - coolant replacement 80,000km - change ATF and timing belt system Please add to the list.
  22. How to I know when my drum brakes are due for shoe change? A more proactive approach, and if possible, a DIY check instead of bring down to workshop.
  23. anybody knows what is the proper procedure for maintaining your car's aircon? is there anything that is supposed to be done? i've come across shops offering aircon gas replenishing, aircon coil cleaning and other stuff not sure what is the recommended or advised change interval
  24. Anyone knows of any brand of maintenance wet battery and preferred workshop to recommend? Just got tired of MF batteries which caught me by surprise and left me stranded at petrol kiosk and office car park a couple of times. Battery desulphators help a bit by prolonging the battery life but MF batteries still snapped me out the last time round. Correct me if I am wrong. Maintenance wet batteries do give tell tale signs of expiry. I suppose maintenance wet batteries last longer than MF batteries. Regular top up of battery water can be done by mechanic during servicing? I usually service my car in between 4-5 months per 10k mileage. Is that enough? Thanks and cheers!
