  1. I know this is a Singapore forum but as I live in Thailand I am wondering if it is appropriate to post about food in Thailand here. It could be Thai food, international food, my home cooking food in Thailand etc. I wish to also welcome anyone here to contribute your experience of Thai food in Singapore or anywhere. If anyone think its not appropriate do let me know. For a start here's one of my favourite Thai food khanom-jeen, had this last week near my office Khanom-Jeen is the white soft rice noodle in Thailand made from fermented rice so it has to be eaten fresh after its made if not will turn sour quickly and spoil. Khanom-jeen is usually take with Thai curry and most commonly with Thai green curry known as gaeng-keow-wan literally translated word by word curry-green-sweet or for our easy understanding sweet green curry, and in this case for chicken green curry we call it gaeng-keow-wan-gai, gai as in chicken. This is rural area so the simple and rural setup https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOhpd-7LR2g&t=3s Besides making khanon-jeen-gaeng-keow-wan in very traditional taste the seller is also very sweet and cute so my favourite stall I can down 2 of her khanom-jeen any time Each is only 40 baht
  2. Turf City closes on 31 December 2023. Been visiting Turf City since it became a commercial mall, first batch of tenants included Mcdonald's and Watsons. Over the years, tenants have included Giant, Jack's Place, Owen Seafood, Tung Lok etc and of course the massive car mart. Used to meet up with friends just to walk along the rows of cars. Reckon Turf City means different things to different people given the variety of activities available; makan, cars + accessories, sports, grocery shopping, furniture shopping, child enrichment etc. Perhaps share share Turf City stories here ?
  3. A pragmatic approach to resolve disputes arises from food ordering among couples, or will it cause more argument when the food is not to the partner's liking? Hahahaha Reminds me of the Anything & Whatever soft drink introduced here in the early 2000s.

Haven't got a chance to post much because these 2 places I went to the internet is horrendous both wifi in hotel and 3/4G. Now I really appreciate being in Bangkok and Singapore where the internet is easily available and fast too. I just arrived in Florence and is able to upload most of the stuff so I could post better. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5zcD2vzSjI Immediately after arriving in Munich Airport, was whisked off to a small city/town of 18,000 people at the Austrian border. Drove about 1.5 hours. Arriving in the town went to a Bavarian lunch here Nice quiet restaurant Soups Vegetarian meal Very non-vegetarian meal lol

  8. Foodpanda S'pore hiring a 'chief makan officer', S$1,000 salary & S$5,000 food allowance source:https://mothership.sg/2020/11/foodpanda-chief-makan-officer/ Foodpanda has launched a search for its first ever “chief makan officer” (CMO). What is a chief makan officer? According to Foodpanda's website, a CMO will get to travel around Singapore to savour the food from 15,000 different restaurant partners. They must also document their food adventures and their stories will eventually be shared on Foodpanda's social media pages. A monthly allowance of S$5,000 will be given to a CMO, on top of a S$1,000 remuneration. Additionally, a CMO will also be tasked to conceptualise and execute creative food-themed content showcasing offerings from Foodpanda shops and Pandamart. The CMO will also enjoy some perks, including gaining exclusive access to select restaurants and Pandamart warehouses. Although the contract offered for the role of CMO only lasts for three months, you can get the opportunity to collaborate with Foodpanda as a food influencer after the three-month stint. Application and requirements To be eligible for the job, you must either be a Singaporean or a Permanent Resident (PR). You must also be able to commit for three months, starting from Jan. 4, 2021. Some of the other quirky requirements Foodpanda stated include: " History of eating during lecture will be counted as a relevant experience" "Demonstrated track record of posting drool-worthy photos" "High metabolism" Applications for the role will open from Tuesday (Dec. 1) and will run for two weeks until Dec. 15. Interested candidates can apply by sending in a one-minute video via Foodpanda's LinkedIn page or through its website. An example of a video resume can be in the style of a mukbang. As of 7pm on Nov. 28, 18 people have applied for the job through Foodpanda's LinkedIn page.

  11. S’pore App Alerts You To Free Food Nearby So Leftover Buffets Won’t Go To Waste Source: https://mustsharenews.com/free-food-app/ Makan Rescue App Helps You Find Free Food Nearby Ever walked past an event’s buffet spread and yearned for a plate of free food? Now you can fulfil that wish with Makan Rescue, an app created by a group of Singaporeans which alerts users to leftover food nearby. The initiative which aims to curb food wastage is a win-win solution – no food gets thrown out, and people get to eat for free. Extra buffet food for everyone Events tend to cater more food than necessary perhaps out of precaution, but that means heaps of servings leftover. What happens to the food then? Well, caterers often have no choice but to discard them, since the food which was prepared hours earlier could go bad soon. That’s where hungry folks like us come in because we just can’t say no to free food. Locate free food using Makan Rescue app More than just alerting users of free food, Makan Rescue also locates the exact venue, along with photos of what the spreads look like. Users can also upload “missions” if they know of any leftover food that needs to be “rescued”. Based on the sample photos uploaded so far, most of the missions seem to occur at tertiary institutions only, though there’s an “others” option too. But local universities like NUS, NTU and SMU have their own “channels” which users can follow, to find food at the respective campuses. Students scrimping on every dollar should definitely check the app out if you don’t want to spend on food. Eat for free and reduce wastage Even the app, which is available on Google Play and the App Store, is free, so there’s no excuse not to install it. It’s always such a shame to see large amounts of food go to waste. Hence, this initiative by the Makan Rescue team is truly commendable. Let’s support a good cause and do our parts to work towards becoming a zero-waste city. Featured image adapted from the Makan Rescue app and Facebook.
