  1. Chanced upon this kopitiam where all the stalls served Malay food. Only managed to try it today. It is located at Blk 529 AMK Ave 10. Good for those staying/working nearby. Understand this is a 24hrs kopitiam but not all stalls open 24hrs. Some will closed once their food sold out. Price is $3 for a bowl of lontong. Have not tried others YET. After that, still can tabao Pines Garden pastries home. I am not affiliated with this kopitiam. Just a glutton who can't resist sharing good makan place since yummy Malay food are hard to come by.

  6. Hi guys, I did not see this tread yet (hopefully I'm correct) so I decided to start this topic. As above, any places you guys know of out there in Singapore? For restaurants, *examples are Rex Mckenzie, Chai Chee Seafood Restaurant, Bottle Tree village(the inside and not the outside one, closest to Sembawang Park) & etc. For normal hawker centres/coffee shops, *examples are Bedok Corner, Simpang, Tong Seng & etc. Can include more details of the place (ie. Ambience, price, location, famous dish & etc.)? *from what I've experienced Thanks for sharing bros and sis!

  12. Hi, Care to share and consolidate into here? Shopping mall Makan (Seafood)
  13. Let's start a thread on good makan places in Singapore. I hope everyone can contribute a bit, whether the place in question be Chinese or Western, up market or for the masses. I'll start off with a place I just discovered recently. Name: Cafe Le Chateau Location: Valley Point @ River Valley Road Type of Food: Western, French Personal Experience: My group of friends had a small gathering over there, I decided on the place based on word-of-mouth alone. The place is pretty simple. Nice, simple setting without any fancy schmancy tacky stuff. Decent atmosphere, warm, dark and quiet, but not excellent. The staff is enthusiastic, but I think they're not very...professional. We had an uncle serve us and for half my questions, he had to go to the back office and inquire. Kind, friendly, but not very...professional. Overall, still decent. Food....now this is where this place shines. There were 7 of us. 3 had their prime steak, 3 had Pork Cordon Bleu, 1 had Oxtail Stew. The Florentine Oyster that came with the set dinners is sinfully rich. A oyster on a bed of spinach (I think), generously covered with a layer of cheese and herbs and spices and baked to perfection. It's like happiness, in warm, squishy, tasty form. The escargot is pretty good too, but between the two choices you have for the set dinner, I'd suggest the oyster. The steak turned out to be a surprise, much better than I expected. Tender, not too watery, nice flavour. I didn't ask about the breed of cow, aging and marbling, since I really didn't expect the steak to be good. The Pork Cordon Bleu was also very good. Extremely cheese, cutting it open is like....like.....cutting open something totally full of cheese. You see the cheese oooooooozing out. The cheese is excellent warm and oozing, but nice and chewy when cooled off a bit. The pork is also battered and fried JUST right, allowing for just the right balance of juiciness and crispiness. The Oxtail stew is the one I ordered. Excellent gravy. The broccoli goes extremely well with it, since it soaks up all the gravy. And the oxtail is cooked long enough that the meat slides right off the bone. Excellent. Very, very good. The tiramisu dessert was good. I'm not good with dessert, so I'll just say that it's good. The apple pie is very unique. I don't think I've seen other pies like this. The Lemon Soufle was just...normal, I guess. Pricing wise? INCREDIBLE. There's a promotion going on. Order 3 executive set dinners and you pay for only 2. And if you have a DBS Master/Visa card, you get 1 for 1 ala carte main course, max of 2 free course. With 7 people ordering 3 set dinners, 4 ala carte, we effectively paid for 2 set dinners and 2 ala carte mains. We also ordered.....5-6 drinks and 2 extra desserts. Everything came out to be $170, which is about $25 per person. I know for sure that this is one place I'd be going back. Strongly suggest: Steak, Pork Cordone Blue, Oxtail Stew, Florentine Oyster, Apple Pie

  19. Singaporean accused of embezzling 3 million US dollars from Taiwan Posted : Tue, 10 Jun 2008 15:06:02 GMT Taipei - Taiwan prosecutors on Tuesday charged a Singaporean with embezzling 3 million US dollars from Taiwan's diplomatic fund given to him to persuade Papua New Guinea (PNG) to drop its links with China and recognize Taiwan. The Taipei Prosecutor's Office has seized Wu Shih-tsai's two apartments and freeze his bank account in Taiwan after the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) uncovered that Wu had pocketed 3 million US dollars from Taiwan's diplomatic fund, to buy two apartments with 2 million US dollars and put the other 1 million US dollars into his bank account. Wu faces two charges - embezzlement plus defamation because last month he claimed an armed man had threatened to kill him on a Taipei street if he did not leave Taiwan at once. "We checked tapes of street security cameras and did not see anyone threatening Wu. Wu confessed that he had lied to us because he wanted Taiwan police to protect him," CIB investigator Yang Hung-lin told reporters. The botched diplomatic scandal occurred in 2006 when Taiwan was seeking to launch diplomatic ties with PNG, an island state in the Pacific. http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/show/21...rom-taiwan.html Take US$3 mln liaoz still waiting to b caught..
  20. Hey all Seat Bros, Mel and myself are planning a CNY makan session with "lou hei" and all. From the quick poll, it shows that many of you prefer to meet Sat for lunch. If it indeed falls on Saturday, it most likely will be on the 16th of Feb, 1pm. Venue yet to be determined. However, since the date is quite far away, we'll decide closer. Who knows, maybe Weekday dinner will see most of us able to make due to time constraints on Saturdays. Will confirm again the date and time. So far bros interested (tentative list due to commitments) 1. Mel + wife 2. David + wife + kid 3. Both Alex(s) 4. Eiko 5. Myself 6. Wan (if weekday - although might have food constraints but can work something out) 7. Matt 8. Mod King VS Please add on if interested but of course, will confirm time and date.
