  1. Hey guys im cosidering buying a 2nd hand car in the future but im thinking. does it make sense to buy a 2nd hand car?? Assume im buying a BRAND NEW M3 at $394,800 with 90% loan over a period of 10 years. The monthly installment would be $3518 (1.88%interest) I am then able to drive the car for 10 years at $3518 installment for 10 years. However, if I buy a 2ND HAND 2010 M3 at $328,888 with 90% loan ($295999) over the remaining life of the car. The monthly installment would be $3204 (1.88% interest) I am then able to drive the car for 9 years with $3204/mth for 9 years. That doesnt make sense after you count that the car is USED and may have certain wear and tear parts that require changing. Can someone elighten me on this?

  3. If you vote out a minister, you make PM's burden heavier: DPM Teo by Ng Jing Yng 04:47 AM May 06, 2011 SINGAPORE - It is seldom that a deputy appraises his boss but Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean last night gave a rare glimpse of the Prime Minister's dedication to the people and his exacting standards. Speaking at a PAP rally in Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC, Mr Teo said: "Every moment, every minute he is awake, I know that he carries the burden of Singapore and Singaporeans very heavily on his shoulders. He works very, very hard." And the Prime Minister "meant every word he said" when he apologised for the Government's shortcomings during a lunchtime rally on Tuesday, said DPM Teo. "Because he (PM Lee) sets very high expectations for himself, too. And (when) we cannot fully meet your needs as Singaporeans, he is really disappointed and sorry as he said so," said Mr Teo. Calling on Singaporeans to vote the most able candidates into the Parliament so that they can help Mr Lee do his job, DPM Teo said: "When you say never mind, vote out a minister, everything will be all right
  4. She refused to wash off make-up for two years 20-year-old Bae Dal-mi wanted to "look perfect all the time", and even slept with thick make-up on. -AsiaOne Tue, May 03, 2011 AsiaOne For two years, this South Korean lady did not wash her face, reported The Daily Chilli. 20-year-old Bae Dal-mi wanted to "look perfect all the time", and even slept with thick make-up on. She said that she first started applying make-up as a 14-year-old and eventually progressed to thicker, mask-like makeup. She added that the most important object in her life was her mirror, which she keeps by her side at all times. Despite being considered rather pretty, Bae revealed to a South Korean variety show that she was dissatisfied with her appearance and wanted cosmetic surgery on 10 areas of her face. Bae's mother, appalled at her daughter's lack of hygiene, had contacted the variety show in an attempt to force her to change her behavior. A visit to the doctor revealed that Bae's skin was twice her actual age due to the make-up, reported online media. According to experts, leaving make up on for too long not only clogs pores, but can also cause early aging. Clogging up your skin Sleeping in foundation, pressed or loose powder, blusher or any other product that covers your face prevents dead skin cells from sloughing off. This clogs pores and triggers breakouts, according to Paula Begoun, author of 18 best-selling books, including "Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me". In addition, as "cosmetics can hold on to pollution", leaving them on your skin means that one can "end up sleeping with a load of free radicals on your skin" which can cause early aging, said dermatologist Dr Howard Sobel in an article by Allure Magazine. To prevent these, former-beauty editor Snezna Kerekovic advises women to cleanse their skin at least twice a day, in the morning and at night. Proper facial cleansing involves massaging a cleanser on the face for 30 seconds to "loosen up" makeup oils and dirt, according to Dr Sobel. Bae finally removed her make-up in front of the camera. The unusual 'reveal' showed a young woman who looks far more attractive than her made-up self.
  5. Stand for election? 'Ensure male candidates do NS first' By Teh Joo Lin & Cheryl Lim WORKERS' Party (WP) secretary-general Low Thia Khiang yesterday proposed amending the Constitution to ensure that all male election candidates must have done national service (NS). He said it did not feel right for male MPs to represent the people unless they have gone through that rite of passage. Mr Low did not name names, but his point was clearly aimed at People's Action Party (PAP) new face Janil Puthucheary, 38, who became a citizen in 2008 and has not gone through NS. Rejecting those without NS stints would only be fair to everyone who has been through it, he said, including himself and his Aljunied GRC teammate Chen Show Mao. Taiwan-born Mr Chen, a top corporate lawyer, did his NS before taking up citizenship in 1986. Mr Low said the PAP should not field a candidate 'who just became a new citizen without serving national service'. He pointed to the tough stance that the Government takes against Singaporean males who default on their NS obligations, and referred to statements by Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean, who is also Defence Minister, on the subject. Mr Low pointed out that Major-General (NS) Chan Chun Sing, an MP-elect for Tanjong Pagar GRC, took a different line when asked about PAP candidates who had not done NS. He quoted MG Chan as having said that someone who was not a citizen previously might not have done NS, but the more important question was what he could contribute to Singapore. Mr Low asked: 'How can a former Chief of Army publicly state something contradictory to the Minister for Defence?' Mr Chen, who also spoke at the WP rally last night, called for a more calibrated approach to immigration, in response to Minister for Trade and Industry Lim Hng Kiang's comments that capping the size of the foreign workforce presented a 'real dilemma' for the Government as it would likely mean turning away big-money investments from abroad. Mr Lim had said on Sunday: 'We will keep foreign workers to one-third of the workforce, but I can tell you that one-third is a very severe limitation to us.' Mr Chen said: 'Do you know why it's one-third? I don't know. Shouldn't we send someone to Parliament to ask them?' He pointed out that the WP was not anti-immigration, but foreigners had to contribute to Singapore, instead of depressing the pay of locals. Mr Chen added: 'The test of our progress as a nation is not whether we have more for those who already have much, but whether we provide enough for those who have less.'
  6. The chance of us seeing no opposition after this election very high. Why leh? 1. New Citizens We all know the number of new cirizens must have gone up by a hundred thousand or two since the last election. These voters naturally are pro incumbent party. At least 90% will vote for the party that gave them the chance to come here. The number of eligible voters is only about 2M. In other words, the incumbent can afford a 10% swing in support easily and they will still win the majority. Probably their overall popular vote percentage may drop but it will be between 58% to 63% thereabouts. This can continue and 5 years later, the game will still not change. Just bring in more new citizens then those who swing to the opposition. 2. Singaporeans are afraid Afraid of what, I also dunnoe. Some are afraid of change. Some are afraid their votes can be traced. Most are just afraid of uncertainty cos a substantial percentage of us are employed in either organisations or companies that somehow is linked to the govt. Just add up the SAF, Home Team, Civil services etc etc. At least 300,000 I reckon. Would you risk a career that offers security and some sort of "guaranteed road to riches". Think not. 3. Most just like to complain We just KPKB. Short memory wan. 30 years of nation building and we have all been programmed to work towards the greater good. In other words, some will fall by the wayside. As long as it is not you, you probably wont care. If you do, you just KPKB and sleep over it. There are of course many more reasons but I guess you guys can add to the above. In any case, anyone wanna form a betting pool? I wager clean sweep for the incumbent this coming election. The above are purely my personal opinions and are just meant for tock coc k sing song session on a boring evening. Maybe some of you guys have a different perspective.

  11. GE is due, and we see a lot of discussions online about the good and bad of various parties. And of course, some of us have already made our choices. The thing is, i feel a majority of the population couldnt care less about politics. They simply vote based on status quo, as in they dont want to rock the boat, or simply get their info from local news media (??!!). They do not attend rallies, and dont bother to find out more about each party, the candidates, what does an overwhelming mandate means to us as a nation etc. I get the feeling the older generations do not know/feel times has changed. They like to stick to the norm, and still feel the ruling party has done a lot and they are good. I agree that they have done a good job in transforming singapore to what it is today. But past performance cannot be used as a gauge for the future. Nor can it be implied. From the obscene pay packages alone, it cast a lot of doubt on their real intentions. Are they mercenaries? As to what Slyvia Lim has pointed out in her speech on minister's pay, it makes me wonder. The older generations probably do not visit forums, read online about various views on local politics and have a very one sided view on what is really happening, based on hearsay, TV and papers especially. And with fact that GRC alone is not exactly a fair electoral move for the opposition, i think it will be really tough to have a change to the political climate in singapore. PAP is no doubt a party with good and powerful people who have proved their worth in their previous appointments, but i think public service is a totally different ballgame. Running a country is different from running a company for profits, nor running a division bounded by regiments and laws. We need people with heart. So all the talks here we have, all the info dug out... does it make a real difference? Cant help but i feel its futile... But i still hope my vote will count.

  14. today i couldn't send out any text message or make outgoing call on my starhub line because one of the other line holder in my ex company did not pay on time his mobile phone bills. understand from starhub all the lines were tagged together under the corporate identity despite having different billing address and modes of payment. so if any line holder in the corporate plan does not pay on time, all the rest gets barred from outgoing call/text message. they need to rethink this way of operation. not forgetting, the phones they have on sale via their corporate plan are more expensive than those on individual plans. no more star hub corporate plans for me!

  24. "Singaporean Men Cannot Make It One Lah" by Sze Yao Tan on Sunday, 04 July 2010 at 01:45 Singaporean girls like to use the phrase "cannot make it" to describe Singaporean men. They wrinkle their noses and act all surprised when you suggest, ever so gently, that perhaps Singaporean Male X might be a suitable mate. "Huh?? Cannot make it lah, he." A few years later they marry Singaporean Male Y, who looks and sounds exactly the same as Singaporean Male X. Why are Singaporean men all so ostensibly "cannot make it"? I do not know the answer to this question, for I am reasonable. However, I do have suggestions for the men. To become a "can make it" Singaporean male (without having to resort to plastic surgery), one must achieve a certain level of competence at the activities I shall be listing out below. Ours is a small, closed society; the traits that mark one out for worthwhile reproduction are easily and quickly discernible, if one pays proper attention. 1. Must be good at computers and computer games Strangely, being good at computer games appears to be more impressive to the average Singaporean female. If you are good at computers only, you are taken advantage of for most part. If you are good at computer games, however, you are a badass potential protector. Compare: You: OK, upgraded to Windows 7 already. Girl: Thanks so much! (thinks: the software did everything.) You: You're welcome. Girl: Can help me install antivirus? with You: ALL RIGHT 25 KILLSTREAK! Girl: Huh? You: Nothing. I just kicked your boyfriend's ass. Girl: Orh. (stands over shoulder and watches very fast paced game and thinks: aiyah why my boyfriend so lousy.) Can help me install Windows? You: Sorry not interested, I am aiming for 35 killstreak Girl: (subconsciously registers lack of punctuation as sexy) Oh. Kill kill kill ... so manly. As a general rule, the hierarchy is such: first-person shooter, versus fighter, real-time strategy, turn-based strategy and then everything else. MMORPGs occupy a value system of their own, but in general their gentle learning curve reduce street cred. Angry Birds and Bejewelled FTW for now though. 2. Must be good at pool There is nothing else to do in Singapore. Get good at it, you will be spending a lot of time in these places. Don't just chalk your stick - chalk some victories while you're at it. Ah-lians will be watching. Must-learns: jump-shot, English, doubles. 3. Must be good at one team sport So that you will look good next to the other doddering dodos. Football obviously occupies top spot, but basketball and water polo work too. Volleyball is for girls. Girls find it easier to come down to support team sports, because they can rationalize their conduct diffusely: "I'm here for the TEAM." Let them have this. You know what they're thinking when you're ... scoring. 4. Must be good at one individual sport While girls find it harder to support these because you are alone and therefore very bo sei for them to come all the way down, the simple fact that you are involved in some sport somewhere is already very "can make it". Walk around with your lacrosse bag slung over your shoulder or your tennis shoes carelessly dangling from your backpack. When they ask about your sport, just make vague references and knowingly use terms of art. Girl: Where are you going? You: Oh, practice. Girl: What practice? You: Kallang ... today we're doing slice serves. Girl: *tingle down spine* Ohhh. Few other people will be able to challenge your authority, since these are individual, recherche pursuits. Exploit the opportunity. To avoid: ping-pong, badminton (everyone thinks they can play these) 5. Must be musical GUITAR for individual, DRUMS in a band. Girls are quite dumb one and they like to see action jackson. You bang bang the drum, they happy. You stand around and pluck a few strings, nobody knows what you're doing. Of course, if you are going to do the serenading thing, it will be guitar without question. Tip: When serenading, pretend to be practising (when you actually practice sui sui at home already). Always choose a current song, so people will bite. If you play More Than Words for the 238645823648243234th time, people confirm lose interest one. And don't look at anybody when singing, otherwise they will feel that you are "invading" them. Don't "invade" anybody. Just let them listen to your ostensibly unassuming music. Confirm plus guarantee plus chop will have results. 6. Must be able to do math A guy who cannot do maths is like an eunuch. He is not a man. In Singapore especially, even our girls are damn good at maths. So you better be super damn good, so you can explain to her how to divide her parts. One better: PHYSICS. For some reason, applied stuff is harder for girls. So take physics and ace it. Then later on, toss in puns about how you two have such great chemistry, you want to explore the geography of her biography in a physical way. "Your body is a wonderland," you will coo. "Do you want to read my literature or should we just start making history?" Just don't show her your mother tongue. 7. Must have good sense of direction A guy who has no sense of direction is a girl. The end. 8. Must drive and must be good driver DRIVE. And for f--k's sake, practice that parallel parking thing. Girls always tell themselves that they are not lousier drivers, just more careful/cautious/whatever. But despite that ALL OF THEM STILL CANNOT FREAKING PARALLEL PARK. Become tok kong at this, heighten the gender difference, enhance the sexual tension. Ooh yeah baby. By the way, European marques please. The Singaporean lady does not want to be seen rolling in a Hyundai. 9. Must be laconic and listen to her drivel Ya. It helps. Srsly. Singaporean girls think they are really interesting, and maybe they are. Who knows? We aren't really listening. But you don't really have to - just nod every 10 seconds. And then say, "Really ah." I just did this today. It is fricking awesome. You can abidicate responsbility for having a brain. The bottom line is that by keeping silent, you allow her to project her preferred self-image onto you. She is interesting, so therefore you must be interesting, since you are absorbing her everything. How cool is that? I love lady logic. 10. Must know DIY "I hammered her and her friend last night, we had a good screw. Talk about nailing two in one night! Of course I bolted the next day, but I will always be ready when their pipes need further unclogging." Euphemisms aside, you must know DIY because other penises will try to undermine you with their own DIY knowledge. Especially contractors who overcharge. If you are fleeced in any DIY-related matter, you are not a man. This is also perhaps the origin of the phrase "cannot make it" - a man who "can make it" can make ... things. With hands and tools. He probabaly also knows how to instruct the girl on how to rectify a swollen ball-c--k. 11. Must speak dialect My biggest regret, I cannot speak dialect. In lup-sup KTVs and Warrant Officer messes, I am the lowest of the low. With contractors, I am a freaking pony with "Kan Me" on my forehead. Why is dialect so important for the Singaporean male? Primarily, it establishes street cred. Denizens from below must look up to you before any female will find you worth apprising. Importantly, also, dialect is crass; crassness establishes contrast, and in contrast we find admiration. 12. Must not be below PES B Or at least finish normal BMT like everyone else. Nobody really knows whether OCS or SISPEC is tougher, so you can elide that easily. If you had a buay gan army life, try not to talk about it at all. Girls know one. They all have "a friend" who was a commando-officer-parakeet. They will compare you like they compare their Prada bag with the other girl's Miu Miu. Don't become an object! If you were a star in the army, also don't talk too much about it. Girls just want to know that you were good, and that you were not a jellyfish. The rest is still for you to prove - funny, rich, smart etc. Prove it. 13. Must have "ambition" and "passion" Most Singaporean girls have a vague notion that their man should be "successful" or aim for success of some sort. For themselves, they have less concrete ambitions. Use this to your advantage. However, only hint (not talk) about your plans. For instance: Girl: So, what's next for you? You: I've had several offers ... well, we'll just see where it goes. I have a pretty clear idea of what I want though. Girl: What's that? You: Haha, it will bore you. Let's not talk about me. Do you like baby blue or pink? Once they know you have "plans", they will stick with you, regardless of what those "plans" are. Make sure you always have "an idea" of what you are going to do. When in doubt, obfuscate and pass off a successful person's life as your own. 14. Must say nearly every other girl is "cannot make it" This is by far the MOST IMPORTANT ITEM on the list. Singaporean girls like a guy who has "standards". Secretly, the standard for every girl is HERSELF. This is not a cardinal scale, there is no relativity. Instead, on this mystery scale there is THE GIRL IN QUESTION, and then EVERY OTHER FEMALE ON EARTH. She will make cursory concessions for Angelina Jolie and Megan Fox (the latter usually grudgingly), of course, but DO NOT BE FOOLED. She just wants you to think that SHE is the prettiest and THAT IS IT!!! If, however, you are unable to lie barefacedly, you might want to go with a less extreme approach. You must say that girls SHE LIKES AS PEOPLE are pretty. NEVER SAY THAT PRETTY GIRLS ARE PRETTY! Girls are unable to divorce looks from personality. It would be unwise to do so, therefore, in their presence. A good sample discussion would run as follows: Girl: Do you think Girl X (ugly but liked) is pretty? You: Yes, she has a certain je ne sais quoi that I find charming. Girl: (pleased) Really ah? I think so too! Not like that Girl Y (pretty but disliked). You: Oh, Girl Y. Cannot make it lah. Act cute buay cute. Girl: (ready to give you blowjob liao) I ALSO SAY! Have you ever noticed that girls thought pretty by other girls are really not pretty at all? And hot, sexy girls are almost always labelled "sluts", as if that were a bad thing? Important hint: Do not address the girl on these points. She does not want to confront her inner evolutionary demons. Well, that's the list. A tall order? Yes, but a worthwhile endeavour, if we are not to lose all our women to the cast of The Last Airbender. We can make it one.
  25. OK, I decide to invest in a set of cheap Autolite copper plugs. Side gap them, regap them to 0.88mm (original 1.02mm but side gap must reduce the gap a little). Index the plugs. Fire them up and the low RPM is almost as good as my side gapped Nology plugs. Even better than the stock gapping (Nology run very little gap, I think its just 0.7mm). Denso IK24 at 0.8mm. A bigger gap is always better for power but it will tend to misfire at high RPM or high boost unless you are using CDI. I have yet to test the high end but if you want cheap low end power, just side gap your copper plugs. Life span will of course be shorter since the grounding tip is no longer covering the center electrode. However, you can always regap them after sometime. Just invest in a file and a spark plug gapping tool (to accurately the gap).
