  1. PAP MP Alvin Yeo: Foreigners will not come here if we make them serve National Service In yet another sign that young Singaporeans are getting increasingly impatient and frustrated with some policies of the ruling party, a PAP MP Alvin Yeo was lobbied relentlessly with tough and sensitive questions during a policy forum held at NUS on 26 January 2010. (read the field report here) Mr Yeo was one of the panel speakers. The other two were Sylvia Lim from Workers
  2. Hi Gurus with TC cars, I'm sure many of you have play with your TC engines and most probably one of the most popular device is to add a Electronic Boost Controller like HKS EVC and similar. My ride is relatively stock 1.5 turbo with a stock boost of 0.6bar, I avoided putting a EVC due to warranty issues. But I would want to know if putting a EVC really make a big difference. (say configuration the EVC to allow up to 0.8bar to 1bar boost) Currently, I DIYed removing a resistor pill from the solenoid allowing it to peak at 0.9bar, holding at 0.8bar boost. But maybe I'm used to the boost and didn't felt much of a difference. In fact the turbo lag seem to be slightly longer. Of perhaps removing the pill only trick the meters to boost at 0.8bar while the engine ECU is smart enough to offset the boost, hence output power is same. I know boosting up the car doesn't mean the horsepower gains will be exponential and removing the solenoid pill may not be the best solution, but I'm afraid by putting back the pill and buying the EVC to set it to boost at 0.8bar will make no difference. Since mine ride is stock setup with stock muffler/stock SMIC and stock plastic dump valve, ECU, etc. Any Gurus done both, both anyone here can share the difference and whether the EVC is really worth investing.
  3. What if USA collapses one day and China becomes the next superpower? China President becomes the big shot and his decisions can make or break the world. The world looks to China for leadership in times of crisis. Terrorist attacks are directed at China and allies, foreign interventions are lead by PLA Media coverage is Sino-centric, CCTV 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 ... replaces Fox, NBC, CBS, PBS, CNN, MSNBC, Bloomberg .... World culture takes on a Chinese influence, most products are made for consumers in China Does that sound like a dream or nightmare?

  5. do you think it is cool? The car is powered by a 2.2L L4 MEFI turbocharged engine developed by tuned by Delphi with output of 175BHP Pricing starts at NT$798,000 up to NT$1,068,000 (Around SGD 45k) but if this car is offer into singapore i think it will cost more then 45k Or you will still choose estima over this taiwan make ?
  6. How to Make Your New Car Last Forever By Eric Peters The last thing you want to have to do when your car is finally paid off is start thinking about a new car--and another 5-year loan--again. The goal is to push the day of debt renewal off as far into the future as possible, maximizing the period of essentially free transportation and putting the hundreds of dollars you'd otherwise be spending on a monthly payment to better use. There's no reason why almost any late-model car or truck can't be counted on to last for 10 years or longer, and run reliably for well beyond 100,000 miles. Don't get suckered by the out-of-date notion that once the warranty runs out (or 5 years have rolled by), the end is near. The durability and reliability of modern cars is remarkable--provided they're treated decently. Decent treatment means: No abuse or excessively hard driving. When you first start the vehicle, do not race the engine. Accelerate gradually until the engine (and the rest of the drivetrain) has completely warmed up; that takes about 10-15 minutes of driving, depending on the outside temperature. Most engine wear occurs at cold start and during the first few minutes of operation. Revving a cold engine will greatly accelerate this wear and tear. If you have a truck and pull a trailer or haul heavy loads, it is especially important to take it easy until the engine's had a chance to warm up and the oil is circulating freely. Do not just start the vehicle and leave it idling in the driveway for more than a couple of minutes. Doing that is also bad for the engine, because idling does not heat it up quickly enough to burn off raw gas and other contaminants that can dilute the oil and reduce its ability to lubricate and protect internal parts. Simply get in, start the engine, and drive way at a measured pace, avoiding full-throttle starts or passing attempts until about 20 minutes have gone by. Lubricant levels and regular changes: It is critical to routinely check the engine oil and transmission fluid to assure they're at the proper level--and have these fluids changed (along with the filter) at least as often as recommended by the factory under "severe or heavy duty" conditions. Do not go by the "normal use" fluid- and filter-change intervals unless you live in a rural area and rarely experience stop-and-go driving or periods of prolonged idling (as in traffic jams). For most people, day-in, day-out driving conditions meet the factory definitions of "severe" service--yet many people assume that because they're not drag racing or otherwise abusing their vehicles, they can adhere to the so-called "normal use" recommendations. Often, the manufacturers at least tacitly endorse this false belief, because it makes the new cars they're trying to sell seem less expensive to maintain. However, it's far less expensive over the life of a vehicle to spend an extra $30-$50 annually on oil changes (and perhaps an extra $100-$150 every 2 years for a transmission flush and fluid/filter change) than it is to have to buy a new transmission--or a new car--as a result of poor maintenance The recommended change intervals for "severe or heavy duty" are typically half the "normal use" intervals (that is, 3 months or 3,000 miles vs. 6 months or 6,000 miles). Check your owner's manual: The actual time and mileage intervals for your specific vehicle can be found there. This small investment will reap large rewards over the life of your vehicle. Pay attention to what the factory says about maintenance. If the timing belt (on models so equipped) should be replaced at 50,000 miles, have it replaced at 50,000 miles--not at 70,000. If the factory says it's essential to flush the cooling system a minimum of every 3 years, do it--unless you want to pay for a new radiator (often a $500-plus part) because the old one was ruined by degraded or contaminated antifreeze. Any car with anti-lock brakes should have the entire system professionally "bled" (purged of old fluid) and refilled with new brake fluid at least every 3 years. Otherwise, you risk ruining the very expensive ABS pump, rotting the brake lines from the inside, and damaging the entire system. Brake fluid attracts moisture, and moisture in the brake system is lethal--but silent. Major damage will occur before you even realize it, and by then it's too late. A mistake many new-car buyers make is failing to read the owner's manual cover to cover--especially the chapters dealing with maintenance--and failing to follow its recommendations to the letter. You can pay now. Or you can pay much more, later. Be kind in extreme weather: If it's very hot or very cold outside, life is much harder on your car's engine and all of its mechanical components. Any excessive demands placed on your engine in such conditions can (and usually will) come back to haunt you down the road. Would you run a marathon in 100-degree weather? For the same reason, avoid driving at high speed--or worse, running the car at full tilt from one stop light to the next--if it is really hot or cold outside. Consider having auxiliary oil/transmission coolers installed, as well as switching to synthetic lubricants. Oil/transmission coolers lower the operating temperature of engine oil and transmission fluid, and that can greatly increase the longevity of your engine and transmission. The cost of having these parts installed will be about $200--a small investment given the over-the-road benefit. Ditto synthetic lubricants. Though more expensive than ordinary motor oil and transmission fluid (about $4 per quart vs. $1.50 or so for premium-quality non-synthetics), the benefits far outweigh the small initial cash outlay. Synthetics are vastly superior in terms of the protection they provide; they have superior resistance to extremes of temperature, better "flow rates" (lower viscosity) when cold, and better resistance to high heat conditions and extreme service. You can also extend change-out intervals when using synthetics, as well, which further reduces the actual cost.
  7. Pacman And Cotto Make Weight By Michael Woods Manny Pacquiao weighed 144 pounds, while Miguel Cotto weighed 145 in the Friday late afternoon weigh-in at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. "Entourage" actor Jeremy Piven and Michael Buffer were joined by about 5,000 fans eager to see what their fave would tip the scales at. The contracted weight was 145 pounds or less. Buffer asked fans to weigh in and do a decibel test to see which boxer had more fans in the house. He handed the mike to Giants RB Brandon Jacobs, who manages several boxers, joked that the boos that rained down on him must've been dispensed by Cowboys fans. Piven tossed in a crack at Floyd Mayweather, lauding Manny and Miguel as two of boxing's best, fighters who don't focus simply on "protecting their legacy." The impish Pacquiao looked loose; he was all smiles, and gave away items of clothing to fans, while the usually taciturn Cotto also grinned just before taking to the scale. Post weigh in, Piven asked Cotto if he'd be extra angry, because he was so drained. No, Cotto said, he'd be aggressive but wouldn't let anger seep into his head. Piven then asked Manny if he abstained from canoodling during training. Yes, Manny said, he curtailed any nighttime cuddling etc so he could stay on message. Alfonso Gomez weighed 145 1/2 pounds, while Jesus Soto Karass was 148, then 147 1/2 after shedding clothes; he took some time to shed those last few stubborn ounces and hit 147.

  9. Knew a girl for months. became a couple. She made me pay for almost everything when we go out. She is very careful with her own money but everytime we go out spending she expect me to pay even pay for her maid and family. Hawker centres, cafes & restaurants. At hawker centres, i will 1st queue & order food for her then only i queue and order food for myself. Including food and drinks i must have queued at least 3 times. And u know each queue can be long esp. during meal times. Once when i didnt order her food but she has to go queue & order her own, she wasnt happy. maybe becos she ended up having to pay her own food tat time. another time, i dropped her off to order food in a restuarant so that i can go find parking space. When i came into restuarant she told me she havent pay for the food. But at this restaurant cashier counter, u will be made to pay right away upon food ordering. I was thinking maybe she told the cashier she didnt have money on her. So she waited for me to come and pay. Even her maid food she asked me to pay. Even when her parents want papers, she got me to buy. Is this normal? Or is it their divine right for girls to expect their guys to pay for everything when they are out? Or am i being too calculative?? Being too easy going (generous etc) and being a carrot seem no difference. No-one like to be the latter. I thought it is more normal for both to pay ie. sometimes guys pay and sometimes gals pay too. though guys pay more times. I am flabbergasted by this all.
  10. when we go wedding/restaurant dinners usually have cooked prawns covered with a milky rich sweet white cream rite? where to buy those sort of cream? or need to make one?

  17. Hyundai Sonata This was my friend's Sonata, he traded in for a VW Touran at 26,000. Now selling at 35.8k, not a bad ROI if the dealer manages to sell at asking price. BTW, if anyone is interested in this, the mileage was 86,000.

  22. Epica Diesel "Both the Chevrolet Epica and Chevrolet Captiva SUV models are now offered with a diesel power plant. Both models now get the 2.0 liter turbocharged diesel engine which is good for 148HP and 320Nm of torque. More importantly, this new engine is supposed to improve performance figures on both models. Compared to the Epica with a 144HP 2.0 liter petrol, sprint figure is improved by 0.9 seconds to 10.6 seconds and top speed is rated at 205 km/h with the diesel engine, instead of 195 km/h with the 2.0 petrol. In the Captiva, the 2.0 diesel is able to propel the SUV to the 100 km/h mark in 12.2 seconds compared to 12.5 seconds with the 136HP 2.4 liter petrol, and top speed is figured at 180 km/h instead of 178 km/h. Both the Epica and Captiva models with diesel comes with a 6 speed automatic and a 5 speed automatic transmission respectively. On top of the reduction in diesel taxes in Singapore, Chevrolet is absorbing half of the diesel tax for the first three years for the diesel powered Captiva to encourage more buyers to take home diesel powered vehicles. However, no news yet regarding the similar promotion for the Epica. The Captiva SUV with diesel carries a price tag of S$ 89,200 inclusive of COE. Pricing for the diesel powered Epica is yet to be released. " Especially when paired up with this (promises of up to another 20% lower FC) and Nice comfy sedan, huge boot, good FC + good power + fantastic torque, 6spd auto!!! I wonder how much it is going to cost the end user.
  23. Just wondering, is having intercourse in car (like the woman on top position and missionary position) detrimental to the suspension setup ? asking cos i read that it is the number one favorite place for hot sex, so maybe drivers should be educated on this. thanks.
