  3. An upskirt photo of a girl sleeping was uploaded by a Netizen and making rounds on online forums. The photo, published in Lianhe Wanbao shows a teenage girl sleeping on her side. Her skirt was lifted up, exposing her underwear. She also seemed to be wearing a school uniform comprising a white blouse and a green skirt. According to the Chinese evening daily, Lianhe Wanbao, the Netizen had claimed in his post that he snapped this picture of his girlfriend while she was alseep. The Netizen, who was unnamed, said that the couple had sex and his girlfriend then fell asleep on his bed. He then pried under her skirt and took the image without her knowing. The photo will also be used to threaten his girlfriend should she be unwilling to have sex with him in the future, Lianhe Wanbao reported the Netizen as saying. Some Netizens have also speculated as to which school does the girl in the picture belong to, with many saying that the colour of the uniform looks like that of Raffles Junior College (RJC). In a reply to Lianhe Wanbao, an RJC spokesperson said that it was difficult to confirm the identity of the schoolgirl or the educational institution she belongs to just by the colour of her uniform, and thus the school is unwilling to further comment on the matter. The Netizen's act is against the law, and he can be found guilty of up to three charges - for insulting the modesty of a woman, distributing of obscene images and threatening someone with harm. The first charge carries a penalty of a maximum jail term of one year, a fine or both. The second charge of creating or distribution of pornographic images can lead to a maximum two-year jail sentence, a fine of up to $40,000 or both.     Making 1st million by age 30

    I have always been hearing of people saying that their goal is to make their first $1 million by age 30. However recently, I have stopped hearing that. Is it that with inflation, making first $1 million by age 30 is no longer a big deal? So its no longer qualified to be a lofty aspiration?

TNP PICTURE: JONATHAN CHOO The divorce, who wants to be known only as Mr Tsai, has not met his maintenance payments to his ex-wife and two children for the last five months. If he does not pay $300 - the amount decided by the family court - by 28 Sep, the 51-year-old part-time security guard faces a one-week jail term. Under the Women's Charter, a person who fails to make maintenance payments can be jailed up to a month for each month of unpaid maintenance. But Mr Tsai claims he cannot afford the payments. He earns $500 a month, lives in a one-room rental flat and has to support another son from a previous marriage. His wife, on the other hand, earns $2,500 a month as a sales executive. Mr Tsai married his second wife in 1998 after his first wife died six years earlier. The couple, who have a 16-year-old daughter and a 5-year-old son, divorced in 2005. In January, his ex-wife filed a complaint against him for defaulting on maintenance payments. He said he stopped paying after she did not allow him to see their children and applied for a personal protection order against him. He said he used to work as a full-time security guard and earned about $800 a month. But he lost his job after suffering a heart attack in January and could only get a lesser-paying job. Most of his monthly pay goes to daily expenses, Mr Tsai said. He also gives about $150 in allowance to his 22-year-old son, an undergraduate at the Nanyang Technological University. Father and son live in a one-room flat in Tiong Bahru. Mr Tsai told The New Paper at his flat yesterday: 'Sometimes, if he needs more money to buy textbooks, I would borrow money from my mother and elder sister.' Mr Tsai's flat is sparsely furnished. He has no TV. Father and son share a mattress and pillow. Meals - just two a day - consist mostly of canned food and instant noodles. CPF account Mr Tsai showed us his most recent CPF statement, which stated that he had less than $2,500 in his Ordinary Account and $188 in his Medisave account. 'So how do you think I can afford to pay another $150 every month in maintenance?' he said. He added that he could not even afford to go for follow-up screenings after his heart attack. Mr Tsai insists he is not being irresponsible. 'I care for my other children. If I can support them, I would. But I can't even provide for myself and my son,' he said. He said he would just go to jail if he can't come up with the $300 in two weeks. 'At least I won't have to worry about finding a way to pay the $300,' he said. But family lawyer Koh Tien Hua from Harry Elias Partnership advised against such behaviour. 'Going to jail is a form of escapism and it does not cancel out the amount he has to pay,' he said. 'The amount will simply snowball.' Mr Koh suggested that ex-husbands like Mr Tsai should undergo retraining so they can try to get an extra job. Lawyer Kelvin Lee from Samuel Seow Law Corporation noted that the main problem in such cases is that 'in Singapore, only men are required to maintain their wives and children'. In the US, he added, men can also claim maintenance from their ex-wives if the latter have higher earning power. 'The US looks at support for spouses, whereas we look at support for wives and children,' Mr Lee said. Both lawyers said the best recourse for Mr Tsai would be to apply to the courts for his maintenance payment to be cut.   7. COE have dropped by more 90% since last few months, government income from COE directly cut by more than 90%. Big Mac have taken the lead to cut burger price by 30% for next 12mths. So far AD only reduce that part of COE reduction, but car price before COE still pretty high. Look like most ADs very cash rich can tahan low sale, but die die do not want to further reduce apart from the reduction of COE price. Some new cars still selling at premium of 70% to 125%.

Making ERP more effective ERP changes revive debate over system's intent and effectiveness Thu, Jun 26, 2008 The Business Times It is clear that electronic road pricing (ERP) remains the cornerstone of the government's policy to control congestion on Singapore's roads. In principle, this is right: it makes more sense to tax actual road usage rather than car ownership, and the shift in the emphasis of policy over recent years in this direction is appropriate. However, there remain legitimate questions over the pace and timing of the expansion of the ERP system and its charges. After 10 years of ERP, the system's effectiveness is still a source of debate. Last week, the government announced another round of ERP changes. There will be five new ERP gantries and increases in electronic road pricing rates from July 7, aimed at easing congestion in the city centre. They will join 32 existing gantries in the CBD. With the five new ERP gantries, the island will have a total of 65. There was also a revision of the ERP rate structure, which involves increases in the base charge and increments. Much of the focus was on the new gantries and the higher charges, but what also attracted attention was the explanation the Land Transport Authority (LTA) gave in revising the ERP rate structure. The LTA said it is doing so because motorists have become 'less sensitive' to the current rate structure, which has remained unchanged since 1998. This highlights the fundamental problem with ERP. Asked a letter writer to BT: What if motorists remain insensitive to the revised structure? This is quite plausible. Having won the right to own a car and having paid some of the highest car prices in the world to do so, it would stand to reason that Singapore motorists would be less sensitive to the cost of using roads than motorists elsewhere. Addressing this point, Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, while speaking at an Institute of Policy Studies seminar earlier this year, acknowledged that the government had got its sums wrong when it implemented ERP. 'Our prediction of consumer behaviour was not quite right,' he said. The LTA has defended ERP, saying it benefits business by smoothening traffic flow. It also said the intention is not to stop motorists from using their cars, but only to modify their travel patterns. As a policy objective, this is right. But the fact that motorists have been insensitive to higher ERP charges should give pause for thought.Is simply raising charges and erecting more gantries the right answer? Or does the answer lie in significant and tangible improvements to the public transport system? Probably both. However, there are questions of timing, pace and sequencing. Raising ERP charges would be most effective in terms of inducing behavioural changes when motorists have a real choice. Under the Transport Review, new public transport initiatives are to be implemented over the next decade. It is only after these are well advanced that introducing more ERP gantries and higher charges would be most effective in terms of reducing congestion.

  18. I had a chance to talk to one of my friends. Who was a T*n Ch*ng SE. Told me that on average. Most of the folks on a N*ssan showroom were earning 5 digits/month. I've heard all these stories about starving SEs. And how we shouldn't squeeze our SEs. But man. to pull in excess of $100-200k/year. that's not exactly peanuts. I heard as well that B*rneo SEs can do just as well, or better, on average. Their comm/car are less than most makes. Volume is much more though. From a B*rneo SE. "I forgot how to sell car already. Just take orders everyday" What've you guys heard. Seems like we're all being taken for a ride (literally) haha.. or maybe should consider the SE path as a career.

  20. STEP on the gas. More motorists are choosing to do exactly that these days. More than 220 have had their cars converted to run on both compressed natural gas (CNG) and petrol. About 200 more have bought manufacturer-assembled petrol-CNG passenger cars, also called 'bi-fuel' cars. Out to save the earth and save some money too, they say high petrol prices plus a generous green tax rebate helped them make the switch. The trend started late last year, when passenger cars were allowed to be fitted to run on CNG as well as petrol. Most conversions were done initially by German company C Melchers GmBH and local firm Scantruck Engineering, both of which started conversions in earnest late last year at their respective workshops in Sungei Kadut and Tuas. Two other firms have started offering the service - parallel importer Mova Automotive and Thai company SO NGV. Most of the directly imported bi-fuel cars are Mercedes-Benzes. Converting a car costs from around $3,000 and involves installing a gas tank, pipings to the engine, and a refuelling intake. But customers usually recoup their outlay within two years as CNG retails at around 78 cents an equivalent litre. Petrol goes for about $1.90 a litre. Product manager Lim Sim Leng, 45, owner of a converted Mercedes-Benz Vito van, readily attests to this. 'A tank of CNG costs me $11, and will give me 190 to 200km. Using petrol for the same distance, I would have to spend at least double that,' he said. A petrol-electric hybrid car like the Toyota Prius would chalk up about 8.4 cents per km, compared with 7 cents for a car running on CNG and 18 cents for a conventional petrol car. Information technology manager Adrian Koh, 34, noticed a slight power loss in his Chevrolet Optra after it was converted. 'But I don't mind since I don't drive like a race car driver,' he said. Project manager Ang Kwang Wee, 46, was impressed by his savings. 'I never knew the mileage was so good. I travelled 2,350km last month and my total fuel spending was $227. 'If I had used only petrol, I would have spent over $440.' He is happy his Toyota Picnic is able to accommodate the gas tank beneath the floor of the boot - which means the car still has decent boot space left. A big incentive for conversion is the green tax break. New cars which can run on CNG are accorded a rebate equivalent to 40 percentage points of their additional registration fee. In the case of a car like the Porsche Cayman - which businessman W.K. Chin, 38, is converting - it could work out to a saving of around $30,000 on the purchase price. It was curiosity which led him to choose gas. 'I wanted to try something new,' he said. He found out about CNG conversions just as he was about to buy his Porsche. This particular conversion - undertaken by Scantruck - is taking a little longer than usual because the authorities wanted to make sure the gas tank had a capacity of at least 50 litres - to ensure that owners are serious about their 'green' intentions. To comply, Mr Chin's Porsche had to be installed with two carbon-fibre gas tanks, as a single large steel tank cannot be fitted without a huge weight penalty. Mr Gilbert von der Aue, sales manager at Melchers, said he expects demand for conversion to go up when gas-refuelling facilities at Singapore Petroleum Company's Jalan Buroh station opens in the new year and Smart Energy's station in Mandai opens in February. Currently, there is only one CNG kiosk: on Jurong Island. 'With current petrol prices, we expect demand for conversion to be high,' he said.

The other time I was having BBQ at east coast my handphone auto switched to Indonesian network. I also noted that all sms display +65 so if you auto reply when you are not on local service providers' network, you pay overseas charges.

Just looking down from it is enough to turn your legs soft. But Tang Cheong Kim ordered her maid to climb over the parapet to water and rearrange the potted plants - not once but on several occasions. For compromising the safety of the foreign domestic worker, Tang was fined $4,000 in a court on Nov 6. The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) statement on Thursday said it was alerted to the case following a complaint that the maid was seen working in an unsafe manner on the balcony of the high-rise unit in Signature Park Condominum, along Jalan Jurong Kechil, on several occasions. Just a week ago, an 18-month-old toddler fell to her death from an eighth-floor unit in the same condominium. Tang could have been fined up to $5,000 and jailed up to six months, or both, for the offence under the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act. She will also be barred from employing another maid. MOM's Divisional Director from the Foreign Manpower Management Division, Mr Aw Kum Cheong said: 'Employers have a moral and legal responsibility to protect the safety and welfare of their foreign domestic workers (FDWs).' 'They should ensure that their FDWs work in a safe environment and are not exposed to unnecessary work hazards.' Since 2006, MOM has prosecuted five employers for compromising the safety of their FDWs. The Ministry will continue to take errant employers to task. Between 1999 and 2003, more than 100 maids have died in accidents at the workplace, many of them falling to their death from highrise flats while carrying out their tasks. In the wake of this alarming trend, MOM started cracking down on errant employers who flout the rules set out in the MOM maid-safety guidelines in 2006. The guidelines state that when cleaning windows or hanging out clothes, maids should not: [*]stand on chairs or tools [*]climb or lean out on the windows [*]try to retireve the objects which have fallen onto awnings or cantilevered walls Maids have to undergo well-being orientation courses and are given a list of important contact numbers in case of emergency. Mr Donovan Long, an administrative assistant at Global Pacific Manpower Cosultancy, said it is compulsory for first-time foreign domestic workers to go for a Safety Awareness Course organised by MOM before they start work. This is a four-hour training course which provides FDWs with an introduction to working in Singapore households. It includes basic information on safety in highrise residences, domestic safety, information on FDWs' legal right and obligations.
