  3. This could have gone horribly wrong if not for the camcar’s situational awareness. What happened? On 5 June 2023, a camcar and his friends were on a trip to Genting when they encountered some “police officers”. In the Facebook post, the camcar was in Kulai when 3 men in a Honda tried to wave them down and get them to stop. The men were wearing police vests and facemasks, using blinkers and flashlights in order to get the camcar to pullover. The camcar suspected something was wrong and focused on not letting the Honda get ahead and stop them. The camcar called the actual police, who told them not to stop and go to the nearest police station if still followed. Online chatter People praised the camcar for spreading this information, preventing others from getting caught in the same trap. On a lighter note, many roasted the impostors for the slow car. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 4. https://www.businesstimes.com.sg/transport/porsche-to-open-malaysia-factory-first-outside-europe Malaysia boleh! Porsche buatan Malaya 🙂 [KUALA LUMPUR] German luxury carmaker Porsche will open its first factory outside Europe next year in Malaysia, officials said on Friday, seeking to meet strong demand in the Southeast Asian country. The manufacturing site in the northern state of Kedah will carry out final assembly of specific models for the local market, the company and Malaysian officials said. Malaysian Trade Minister Azmin Ali said the move was a "strategic decision by Porsche signifying its commitment to build a long-term presence in" Southeast Asia. Albrecht Reimold, a board member of the Volkswagen-owned brand, said the new plant, being established in collaboration with a local partner, was a "standalone project and modest in size and capacity". But he added that "it signals our willingness to learn and adapt to specific local market conditions". Should be interesting, but many questions abound: How will the QC be? Can we get our hands on a cheap Porsche.. https://www.theedgemarkets.com/article/porsches-entry-malaysia-create-highquality-jobs-niche-tech-capabilities-says-azmin Current Malaysian prices: https://www.porsche.com/pap/_malaysia_/ I'm guessing they will get lower?
  5. This uncle used multiple years worth of luck to come out of this alive, let alone (seemingly) uninjured. Watch the video to see what I’m talking about.. What happened? On 12 March 2023 (yeah, i don't know why we’re only seeing this now), a bus driver in Malaysia plowed into a bunch of vehicles on a crowded road. In the footage taken from a camcar that was also in the accident, the bus clearly took a long time to stop, as there was the sound of braking before the bus came into view. When the bus did come into view, we can see multiple vehicles were being pushed by the bus. This made a sort of battering ram that hit other cars on the road as the bus struggled to reach a halt. The aftermath was an absolutely crushed blue car, a few mangled sedans and a Toyota Estima with half its front bumper detached. There were also a few men yelling at the bus driver while the footage showed the wreckage. Speaking of the crushed blue car, the video shows an old uncle helped up by the authorities and placed on a stretcher. The uncle was apparently inside the blue car, though it is unknown if he was the only person. How they pulled him out of there I have no idea. Furthermore, his clothes look pristine. It is unknown what led to the accident, whether brake failure or neglect on the bus driver’s part. Online chatter People speculated on how the uncle survived the accident considering the state of the car, believing it was good karma repaid for this incident or divine intervention. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 6. Guys, I know the jam at checkpoints are long, but waiting a few hours is probably better than waiting a few months in jail. What happened? On 6th May 2023, a BMW 1200gs rider at Tuas checkpoint decided that the queue was too long and tried to cut it. However, he was unfortunate in his choice of victim, who was apparently a Malaysian rider who refused to let him have his way. This resulted in a fight where the Malaysian man was being held back by a couple other riders in an attempt to stop the fight, as other vehicles behind them were also blaring their horns. The footage is pretty short and only shows the fight as it is happening, not what led to it. We also don’t know if either party is going to face charges for fighting (though really, it should only be the BMW rider if this is true). Take this story with a grain of salt. Ironically, if the rider just waited like everyone else he probably would have left earlier as opposed to starting a fight and dealing with the consequences after. Online chatter You already know what people are going to make fun of in this one. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 7. After failing his university exams for the third time, a Malaysian law student attempted to take his own life on Monday. First, he set himself ablaze. Then, he tried getting run over by oncoming road traffic. But the 24-year-old ended up causing an accident instead. Surveillance images show the student dousing himself in petrol at a kiosk in Segamat, Johor, before setting himself on fire with a lighter. In another video circulating on social media, a burning man is seen running out of the petrol station before another man put out the flames with a fire extinguisher. The police said the rescuer is the owner of a petrol station in Jalan Ibrahim, just opposite the Segamat District Police Headquarters. The student then ran to the middle of a road and sat down, thinking that he would be hit by an oncoming truck. But he failed at that as well. The truck driver made an emergency break, leading to an accident as another car collided into the truck’s rear, the police said. The student was taken to a hospital, the police added. Doctors said he suffered 70 per cent burns on his body. As of Tuesday night, he was still receiving treatment in the hospital, according to local media. Investigations are ongoing, the police said, but they believe the student attempted suicide as he was ashamed of failing his exams repeatedly, and could not face his family members. For attempting to kill himself, the man faces a prison term of up to a year, and a fine, or both. https://www.straitstimes.com/asia/se-asia/malaysian-law-student-who-failed-exams-3-times-sets-himself-on-fire-tries-to-get-hit-by-moving-truck?utm_campaign=stfb&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook To be exact, he failed his Bachelor of Law exams three times and was ashamed to face his family. His attempt to kill himself in public could also be a cry for attention. Poor kid. School isn't everything and it certainly doesn't determine your life.

  10. Singapore-Desaru ferry service approved by MPA after safety requirements fulfilled SINGAPORE: A ferry service between Tanah Merah terminal in Singapore and Desaru Coast terminal in Johor has been approved by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA). Ferry operator Batamfast will run the service, but a start date has yet to be announced. "The commencement of the new ferry service is pending Batamfast’s final preparations to operate this new ferry service, including obtaining the necessary approvals from other authorities," said MPA in a statement on Tuesday (Jun 21). Transport Minister S Iswaran said in a Facebook post on Tuesday that Batamfast may start running services between the two ferry terminals when it is ready. "The start of the ferry service between Singapore and Desaru is another step forward in restoring connectivity between Singapore and Malaysia," he added. The MPA approval comes after the authority said in April that it would approve the ferry service only if it was satisfied the service could be operated safely. The route will be operated by Batamfast's subsidiary Desaru Link Ferry Services, and the journey is expected to take about two hours. The authority received a proposal from Batamfast in March this year to operate the new service between Desaru Coast and Tanah Merah. MPA had asked Batamfast to submit a navigational safety assessment for the proposed route and an emergency response plan. It also asked for an attestation from the certifying authorities that the ferries to be used were fit for the proposed voyage. "MPA has reviewed the submission and assessed that Batamfast has met the safety requirements for the proposed ferry service," it said on Tuesday. Besides the proposed direct route between Desaru Coast and Tanah Merah ferry terminals, MPA has also approved Batamfast’s application of an alternative route between Tanah Merah and Tanjung Pengelih ferry terminals, to be utilised in the event of inclement weather or rough sea conditions. https://www.channelnewsasia.com/singapore/singapore-desaru-coast-tanah-merah-ferry-service-start-batamfast-2759856 2 hours to get to Desaru, sounds alright ...

  12. This Toyota Wish was treated better than I was when growing up. Watch the video to see why. What happened? At Gelang Patah R&R, a Toyota Wish was spotted being given some special treatment while refuelling. It was gently rocked by its driver and assisted by an attendant in a tender effort to quench the car’s thirst for fuel. I’m jealous. Why couldn’t my parents treat me this way? Looking at this did make me curious though. Does shaking the car do anything at all? Short answer: No. Nope. First, your car has a fixed capacity fuel tank (duh), if it is not fixed and can somehow fill up indefinitely, please contact us at [email protected]. However, the theory is that when filling up petrol there are air pockets that form during the process. This reduces the amount of petrol that one can pump into their car, wasting time and money. Think of it like a soft drink can, where there’s always air in the can so the can is never truly full. However, rocking isn’t the way to solve this. In CNA’s Talking Point episode 32, the director of Mister Garage, Vincent Emmanuel Lee debunked this myth, saying “When we pump the petrol into the tank, it creates foam and vapour (which) occupies the tank. When we wait for the vapour and foam to dissipate, that's when you can pump more petrol into the tank.” This makes shaking ineffective as everything is already at the top instead of within the liquid. Online chatter Back to our usual Facebook clownery, people made fun of the shaking and rightfully deemed it useless. However, some people took offense to the footage being recorded in the first place, saying the person who took the footage had nothing better to do as the driver did nothing illegal. Writer’s thoughts: I was treated very well as a kid I just needed to get your attention for this article lol. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 13. TL;DR - An accident involving a Ferrari with a Singapore-registered licence plate and a Toyota Altis occurred in Muar, Malaysia recently. The result of letting a 22 year old drive a ferrari… Here’s some pictures of a $600k supercar losing the entirety of its value in different angles. And a beyond damage Altis. What Happened? An accident happened after its driver failed to control the vehicle while on Kilometer 144 North-South Highway northbound, this morning. Muar District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said, in the incident at 7.25 a.m., a Ferrari driven by a youth from Singapore had rammed into the back of a Toyota Altis ridden by four local men in their 50s. "The accident is believed to have occurred when a luxury car driven by a 22-year-old Singaporean that was on its way to Kuala Lumpur crashed into the back of the victim's car which was in the right lane. "As a result of the accident, both vehicles have crashed to the right of the road and resulted in all Toyota Altis passengers suffering minor injuries," he said when called. According to him, the case is being investigated by the Assistant Investigation Officer from the Bukit. (Source: SGRV) Online Chatter ‘Satki’ 22 year old Ferrari driver becomes ‘xiasuey’... 14. PETALING JAYA - A mourning father from the state of Negeri Sembilan was shocked to find out that his son, whom authorities said had died in prison last week, is still alive. The father, who only wanted to be identified as Mr Chantren, told Malay daily Sinar Harian that the family’s ordeal started when he received a call from the prison authorities on March 3 saying his son, whom he did not named, had died in Sungai Buloh Prison. He said he did not know why his son, 19, was in prison. As far as he knows, his son was living and working in the town of Selayang in Selangor. Mr Chantren was told to claim his son’s remains at the Sungai Buloh Hospital which he did together with several other family members. “When we looked (at the remains), we noticed that the face was different after post-mortem because there were suture marks and his hair had also been shaved,” he told reporters when met at his house. Upon claiming the body from the hospital, a sad Mr Chantren and his family prepared for funeral rites and made arrangements to cremate their son’s remains. However, to the family’s surprise, they were informed just a few hours before the cremation that the youth was still alive. “We received a call from the prison authority about three or four hours before the cremation time - and they informed us that my son was still alive. “They did a video call (to show). I do not know how to even express my feelings. Our son is still alive, but whose body is at our house now?” the perplexed man said. According to Mr Chantren, officials from the prison had since gone to his house and collected the body. Mr Chantren has also requested to meet his son in prison. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
  15. https://www.straitstimes.com/asia/se-asia/robbers-blow-up-atm-flee-with-more-than-100000-in-malaysia SHAH ALAM – Three masked robbers took just five minutes to blow open an automated teller machine (ATM) at an Ambank branch in Setia Alam, Selangor. They escaped with RM349,000 (S$106,000) in cash. Shah Alam police officer Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said he was alerted to the incident at 6.48am on Thursday, reported New Straits Times. “Our probe identified three suspects who were seen entering the premises. They arrived in a white car suspected to be a Mitsubishi ASX,” he said. “The surveillance recordings were blurry and unclear, as it had been sprayed with black paint. “We are on the hunt for the suspects,” he was quoted as saying in New Straits Times. He added that two ATMs, valued at around RM60,000, were damaged but only one was blasted open and broken into. They were likely blown up using gas pressure, according to preliminary investigations. In February 2022, two robbers made off with RM260,000 in cash after blowing up an ATM at a convenience store in Meru, Selangor. Police said the robbers blew open the machine using a type of gas via a pipe from their car, which was parked outside the store, reported The Star. In August 2019, another similar theft was reported in Tanjong Malim, Perak. Robbers blew up an ATM machine using explosive substances and fled with RM300,000, according to the Malay Mail.
  16. TL;DR - Yet another SG-registered Mercedes GLA180 driver enjoying the cheap RON95 from Malaysia. Despite several signs put up around the petrol kiosks, people just seem to intentionally be oblivious to those posters. Here's what I mean: What happened? Many Singaporeans head into Johor Bahru for the cheap food, cheap massage and most importantly, cheap petrol. This man is no exception. The Mercedes driver was caught filling his car with RON95, the forbidden petrol that is exclusive to MY-registered vehicles only. In case you didn't know, a litre of RON95 costs ~SGD0.60 and a litre of RON97 costs ~SGD1. The difference in price is not worth the public shame lah… And the fact he drives a Mercs makes it worse. Online Chatter When you put cheapskate and Mercedes in a sentence, you get this 'xia-suey' driver. Tsk… throw Singaporeans’ face sia. Cautionary Reminder Under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 and Control of Supplies Regulations 1974, individuals can be fined up to RM1 million (S$321,000), or jailed three years or both if found guilty while entities and companies can be fined a maximum of RM2 million. 17. TL;DR - The Mercedes driver was caught dabao-ing several (plastic) containers of Malaysia’s RON97 and smuggling them deep into his car boot. Inflation is real. Watch this 67-second clip of this driver who has no peripheral awareness, sneaking RON97 into his car. What happened? This SG-registered Mercedes driver was seen refilling RON97 into his plasticwares and tying them up in red plastic bags, slotting them right deep into his car boot. In case you didn’t know, one can only bring a controlled amount of petrol from Malaysia back to Singapore. And it has to be declared at the ICA. Failure to do so will result in a hefty sum, that is definitely not worth the risk. And the shame. Online Comments Desperate times call for desperate measures. Refill first, think later! Netizens were also speculating that his car is not even 3/4 filled in the first place. Which is also another crime in itself. Moral of the Story Don’t be a cheapskate lah… especially if you’re driving a luxury car. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 18. Huge Genting Highlands Landslide Blocks Major Road, Affected Route Temporarily Closed source: https://mustsharenews.com/genting-highlands-landslide/ Major Road In Genting Highlands Blocked After Huge Landslide Genting Highlands is a popular tourist destination for many Singaporean families — its fun theme parks and cool weather is a treat for everyone. However, it seems like those planning to head up there soon for a holiday might have to make some changes to their plans. A major landslide has hit Genting Highlands on Tuesday (5 Nov), cutting off part of a major road. This blocked off the route to a nearby hotel and apartment building nearby, reports New Straits Times. “Hundreds of holiday-goers” were left helpless due to the landslide, according to NST. Fortunately, nobody was injured. Rained for 3 hours prior to the Genting Highlands landslide Videos have surfaced online showing streams of mud and rocks flowing down the mountain. It had been raining heavily for about 3 hours prior to the landslide. In the video, a man shouts for the bus to close its doors as it reverses away from the landslide. Both lanes of Jalan Genting-Amber Court were blocked off. While the First World Hotel is in plain sight of the drivers, they are unable to access it due to the landslide. Clean-up operations are ongoing Firefighters were alerted to the landslide at 5.20pm, reports Harian Metro. The station deployed 10 personnel to the affected area. They are now working to clear the mud and debris from the road. Contractors working in the area are also helping the personnel. Harian Metro added that the main road leading to Genting Highlands, however, is unaffected. The situation is under control When contacted by Berita Harian, the district police chief said that the situation is under control. However, the roads are still closed for cleanup works. We’ve reached out to the High Commission of Singapore in Kuala Lumpur for comments and advice for Singaporeans heading to Genting in the coming days. In the meantime, Singaporeans heading to Genting ought to check traffic conditions before heading over. If the weather is bad, it might be better to delay the drive up until the skies clear. We wish everyone a safe trip during the holiday season.

  21. TL;DR - A near-miss accident as a Nissan Qashqai driver forgets to engage the handbrake before switching drivers. As a female driver myself, I do not conform to both the stereotypes: 1. Female drivers are bad drivers 2. Females do not drive as well as males This incident debunks the tropes. Watch this 86-second video to see how this male driver conveniently leaves the car without engaging the handbrake, causing the car to roll backwards. So what happened? The Qashqai driver stopped midway on the road in Malaysia where he decided to switch driver seats with the passenger princess. That, itself, is triggering enough for the cam car. To add a cherry on top, the driver consigned to oblivion as he stepped out of the car, without applying his handbrake. This caused the car to roll backwards. The cam car continuously honked at the Qashqai before both cars kissed. Ignorance is not always bliss... I’m sure we have all heard of the typical words from a male driver: “Confirm female driver” “Must be some lady driving” “Want to bet that it's a woman driving?” However, statistically-speaking, males cause more road accidents than women. Additionally, the crashes involving male drivers are reportedly more grievous than women behind the wheels. Online Chatter I guess this man took one for the team and now we, as females, can proudly say, we are not that bad of a driver. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 22. TL;DR - SG-registered BMW got called out for pumping cheap RON95 petrol in JB reserved for MY-registered vehicles only. We all love a good cheap thrill. But not as much as this BMW driver. Watch this 75-second video of him not giving a hoot even after being called out by the cam-car. What happened? A SG-registered BMW driver was seen pumping RON95 petrol in Malaysia, when it is strictly only meant for MY-registered vehicles. The way he strategically used his body to cover the petrol nozzle and bike rack to cover his car plate while fueling his BMW with the forbidden petrol, goes to show the number of times he has done this prior. When confronted by the cam-car, he still continued - clearly unbothered, unfazed, thriving~ Online Comments: Reactions to the BMW driver being called out were pretty mixed. Many felt that this practice was very exploitative, giving Singaporeans a bad name. On the other hand, some argued that Singaporeans who pump cheap petrol in Malaysia still do stimulate the economy in other ways, such as shopping/dining there. Moral of the Story... 23. TL;DR - As Singaporeans flock into Johor Bahru for Christmas shopping, JPJ were deployed to monitor the activities to improve the effectiveness of enforcement of the roads to Malaysia. As Christmas draws near, Singaporeans get panicky about gift shopping. And that is clearly evident from the number of cars entering into Malaysia, getting fined. Guess we’re really living up to our Singaporean spirit - kiasu. But not quite the kiasi part. The JPJ must be internally screaming joy of happiness as they record the car plates of those who kena saman… yay to more kopi money! Here are some screenshots: Oh man… Another one bites the dust. So what happened? In case you didn’t know, JPJ is basically the equivalent of Singapore’s LTA. They were deployed to the roads at Causeway to manage the traffic crowd during the weekend. Many cars from Singapore entering JB were fined for cutting into the non-existent fast lane… or perhaps it is only visible in their sight? Now their trip is just a wasted one since their fine probably adds up to the cost savings they were expecting from the 1:3.xx ringgit conversion. Better luck next time, fam. Let’s hear from the Internet: Many seem to be asking for heavier penalties on these drivers who jumped the line. 24. TL;DR - A Honda Shuttle driver decided it was not the day he waited in line on the way into Malaysia. Unsurprisingly, the car ended up getting rear ended by an oncoming motorcycle. Everyone who has driven into Malaysia would know how shag it is to wait in the ‘cars only’ lane for what feels like eternity. And of course, as humans, we tend to always find the easiest way out. Much like this Honda Shuttle. In this 40-second video, you can witness the aftermath of laziness: So, what exactly happened? The Honda Shuttle driver decided to make his way into the ‘motorcyclist lane’ to avoid the hassle of waiting in his lane. But things do not always go according to plan - a motorcyclist kissed the back of his car, and it resulted in some considerable damage to both parties. Tough luck, my man. It should mean something if there’s no other cars in that lane, so please use your brain and think if you should even swerve over... no? At least for me, I would very much prefer to follow the crowd than to go on the headlines for the wrong reasons. That’s going to cost me my image and also probably a hefty sum of money to get it fixed… But let's dive into what netizens are saying: Oof, the commentators are having fun mocking the driver… ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community.
