  2. Up to 70% of C-Class sold in 2011 by C&C are C180Ks. http://motoring.asiaone.com/Motoring/News/...321-334791.html Premium brands pick up speed and new buyers in Cat A By Samuel Ee The luxury brands are attracting new customers as they steadily gain market share in the Category A COE segment, with Mercedes-Benz being the most successful so far. A Cat A certificate of entitlement is used to register a car with an engine capacity 1,600cc and below, and costs less than a Cat B COE, which is for cars above 1,600cc. One reason is because Cat A models are smaller and traditionally considered bread-and-butter models. But not anymore. With European manufacturers downsizing their engines to reduce fuel consumption and exhaust emissions, there are now more and more premium models with 1.6-litre engines. One of them is the Mercedes-Benz C180 Kompressor, with a 1,597cc supercharged engine and five- speed automatic transmission. This is not to be mistaken with the C180 CGI BlueEfficiency, which has a 1.8-litre turbocharged engine mated to a seven- speed auto. Last year, the C180 K accounted for 68.6 per cent of the total 1,351 units of C-Class cars sold here. One important advantage it has is affordability - at $177,888 (with COE), the C180 K is currently $20,000 less than the C180 CGI mainly because of the COE premium. 'Of course the OMV is lower,' said a dealer for a competitor, referring to the open market value. 'But it is mostly the gap between the Cat A and Cat B premiums that gives the C180 K its price advantage.' The Cat A COE premium is currently at $56,552, while Cat B is at $79,304. The dealer added that this price advantage has also resulted in conquest customers for the brand with the three-pointed star. 'The C180 has attracted many new customers who used to drive two-litre Japanese cars because both now cost about the same,' he explained. Another German luxury marque which is quietly carving out a niche in Cat A is BMW with its 1 Series five-door hatchback. 'With the launch of the new BMW 1 Series last November, the COE Category A has become a relevant segment to BMW,' said BMW Group Asia managing director Neil Fiorentinos, referring to the 118i and 116i's four-cylinder 1.6-litre TwinPower Turbo petrol engine. He added that during the 1990s, BMW had a 3 Series with a 1.6-litre engine in the form of a saloon and compact - the 316i. With the new 3 Series, the BMW 335i and 328i have been launched and the 320i with its 2.0-litre turbocharged engine is due here in the second half of 2012. But according to Mr Fiorentinos, 'there is no confirmation of other model variants at this point in time'. However, at BMW- owned Mini, all the models from the iconic brand are in Cat A. Mr Fiorentinos said: 'Given the good response to the new BMW 1 Series and the strong trend of Mini, the Cat A segment already plays an important part in BMW Group Asia's product portfolio and we foresee it will continue to do so in the future.' Over at Volvo, Cat A sales now comprise an average 40 per cent of sales since the first Cat A model was launched in May last year, said general manager Victor Kwan. Volvo has three Cat A models - the S60 T4, S80 T4, and V60 T4 - and Mr Kwan said most customers are new to the Swedish brand. 'The profile of buyers for the S60 and S80 is somewhat different, but the majority of them are new to the Volvo brand,' he explained, adding that about 30 per cent are from other Continental makes, including premium and mid-tier continental brands, 40 per cent from Japanese makes, and the balance being first- time buyers. 3. I was driving along AYE this evening and turning up into Pandan Flyover from exit 11 when I saw your left rear wheel started to wobble slightly. You were driving a C180 (I think) and travelling at about 40-50 km/h going into the turn on the left lane of the flyover when I saw smoke coming out from the tyre. The wobble got worse and the tyre started to disintegrate right before my eyes. Just like the tyre ripping off from the F1 car, it was scary and I slowed down. Then, the tyre came off and the whole rim was exposed. You stopped on the flyover and turned on your hazard lights, I did the same and soon the flyover was jammed and some started horning. I wanted to get off to render you my assistance but I thought it would not be safe as we were on the left lane. My apologies for not helping and hope you are okay.

  6. Guys, my parent's Merc B170 stalled on them several times this month and we just sent it to C&C. It's just barely 3.5 years old and over the warranty. Did anybody have the same problem and what was the diagnosis? They claimed to be a fuel pump and it costs $1,200 but info I gathered seems like a simple crankshaft position sensor. Please share if you have any info. Thanks!
  7. With the same budget say for E/5/A6, any other decent choice(s)?
  8. Need some advice guys...am currently driving a 4.5yrs old 320 black line and thinking of changing to a C180CGI/C200. C&C is willing to absorb my BM for a higher $ than market value as long as I trade in before the launch of the F30. But am also very keen on the F30 which will be launching. So am torn between a C or the new 3 here. What you guys think? Pls no bashing comments pls. Be neutral can?
  9. Hi Any owners here can help? Autovox is one of them? Any others? Cheers.

  11. Suay... From STOMP: http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...nother_car.html Woman Mercedes driver keeps reversing and reversing -- right into another car STOMPers John and Jade were furious at this female Mercedes driver who failed to heed their honking and continued to reverse her car into theirs, cracking their car licence plate and denting the bumper. This incident took place at the entrance of the multi-storey carpark at Block 129, Kim Tian Road. The STOMPers recounted: "We encountered this lousy female Benz driver yesterday (Wed, Aug 17). "As you can see in the video, she started to reverse towards our car. "We honked at her a few times to warn her, but she continued to reverse until she hit our car. "Our licence plate was cracked right down the middle, and our bumper was scratched and dented. "We had to file an insurance claim against her because she refused to take the blame. "She said that we had parked too near her car, that she couldn't see our car and didn't hear our honking. "But it is clear from the video that we had stopped a good distance behind her, giving her ample space to back up. "Also, you can hear us honking furiously in the video! "She was so unreasonable. "I don't want to say this but people who drive big cars are often the biggest road bullies too. "The female driver even admitted that she didn't look in the rear view mirror when she was reversing! "I think she needs a driving refresher course. "Please be more considerate!"

  14. Mercedes has announced the third model in its 63-badged AMG line-up to get the firm's new 5.5-litre twin-turbocharged V8 unit. Meet the new E-not-a-6.3 AMG. Top speed also rises from 155 to 186 mph with the performance upgrade. In addition to the reworked engine and transmission, the front axle has been widened by nearly an inch. 20. was driving along PIE towards Tuas on the 2nd lane at about 90km/hr and the expressway was pretty clear. then from my rear view mirror,i saw a white merc cab with white light flashing very far away and i was thinking what happened? then i recalled news report on YOG merc cab so i continue to drive as usual, the speed is most probably 10km/hr faster than me and it took quite some time before it get close to me. but when it was still quite far away(about 10 car length),it started to high beam at me asking me to give way(lane 1 was very clear then)?maybe his ego became bigger with the YOG number plate expecting others to give way. so being considerate enough,i filter to lane 1 and watch the driver,s attitude when he drove pass me on lane 2. he was stuck in lane 2 and i managed to pass him, then he filter into lane 1 behind me. and i realise another YOG merc cab on lane 2 driving with a much discipline attitude. when lane 2 was clear, the first cab i mentioned filter into lane 2 and back to lane 1 infront of me. so being naughty,i tried to challenge his ego and tailed him. he sense it and sped up(above the legal speed limit) weaving in and out of lanes. i didn't know just any cat & dog taxi drivers are allowed to ferry olympians around risking their lives.
  21. Bring my dog for a walk just now (around 9+ pm). While crossing the road outside change hotel, suddenly hear a loud scream and bang. Turn my head around and saw a female cyclist being knocked down by a white merc cab. Minutes later, more cyclists gather and ambulance arrived. Hope the female cyclist is alright.
  22. Saw on sgcarmart ... C-Class from S$14x,xxx!
  23. Do you ever give way to these cars? When they signal or try to cut into your lane, do you slow down and give way to them? For me, depends on my mood. If good mood, give those BMW/Merc space. If bad mood.... WEll too bad for them. As for those Porsche/Ferrari/Lambo etc..... Nope. Never ever..... They can only cut in behind me but not in front. Too bad for them.
