  1. Hi Brothers may i just do a quick survey to check which of the above 3 luxury coupes best appeal to you? Key points of consideration; 1) Handling and Sheer Driving Pleasure; 2) Engine Refinement 3) Body Styling and looks 4) Value for Money Thanks
  2. A video of an aggressive Mercedes-Benz driver (who does not react well to being honked at) has gone viral. The video was uploaded on SG Road Vigilante’s YouTube channel and has since gained over 10,000 views in a single day! Here’s the video courtesy of SG Road Vigilante Using the powers of inference The video of the dashcam footage has little to no audio, but it’s pretty clear what’s happening if you use your inference skills. Image by SG Road Vigilante YouTube Channel The Mercedes-Benz C-Class feels like his lane is too slow for his liking and wants to switch lane loyalties. If you notice carefully, he starts his lane change before signalling. Image by SG Road Vigilante YouTube Channel Dashcam driver CLEARLY speeds up when he realises what’s happening and when he does not manage to prevent the C-Class from cutting into his lane, he jams on the brakes and the horn which is super uncalled for and childish. EGO, so much EGO! Does the C-Class driver let this go? Of course not! Men and their ego right? (the writer is a dude too, so it’s not sexist) Image by SG Road Vigilante YouTube Channel Mr C-Class then pokes his head out all angry like with accompanying hand gestures. He then puts his car to a complete stop on a two-lane road to get out of his vehicle to show his displeasure and holding up traffic behind dashcam driver. Image by SG Road Vigilante YouTube Channel He approaches the dashcam driver and disappears from the screen completely for a couple of seconds before heading back into his C-Class. Image by SG Road Vigilante YouTube Channel Thought that was all? Nope. He comes back with his mobile phone this time to take a video of the dashcam driver. Towards the end of the video, you can see part of a video of dashcam driver’s mobile phone. Bro, what are you doing? The kicker comes when C-Class decides to make some derogatory sign to the dashcam driver. Like, what’s the point here? Here’s what he did. You decide. Image by SG Road Vigilante YouTube Channel Want to know what this sign is? Here you go courtesy of Urban Dictionary. Does this mean the dashcam driver was a girl? If it was directed to a guy, that’s just…. weird AF! Even so, this is so uncalled for and rude and vulgar. When you buy a Mercedes-Benz If you drive a Mercedes, you’re telling people some basic information about yourself – You’re used to a certain standard of living, you like to stand out and show that you’ve got class and that you’re a confident and independent individual. Mr C-Class’ actions show us that instead, he’s a childish and petty person who would be better off walking from point A to point B. Dashcam driver, you’re no better for antagonising Mr C-Class. Here’s what the people have to say Image by SG Road Vigilante Facebook Page Pretty much split. Image by SG Road Vigilante Facebook Page So wise.
  3. That's right! We are back and with us today is a whole new tester! Let's give a warm welcome to our resident Journalist, Idris! This new video is adopting a whole new format, so let's see what the two get up to in the new Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake! Seems like both of our testers are properly impressed by Mercedes' MBUX system, but it seems like there's something else about this car that has Idris tickled? But of course, the reason why you would get this is because of the boot and the added practicality! Does the added practicality compromise the handling prowess of the Mercedes CLA? Idris takes it for a spin to find out, and you can discover for yourself if you should opt for the Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake in the full video here! Tell us what you think about the new format!
  4. Hi people In this day and age when COEs are higher than a Boeing 747 can climb, I would like to recommend a car that is cheap (about $25k) that is durable (some have their COEs renewed till about 2019) that is reliable (mileage about 400,000km and still going strong) that is maintenance-friendly (parts can be as cheap as or even cheaper than some Japanese cars) It is a Mercedes Benz built between 1987 and 1995, Mercedes Benz cars are classified by their chassis ID, and this one is known as the W124 following the first 4 letters of their chassis designator Available in 2.0l onwards, road tax is on the high side (about 1.8k a year) Fuel consumption varies from 8 - 9 km/l Road handling is very stable, very comfortable, very spacious, very safe so it's suitable for young families with young children and a tight budget Main appeal is the low price tag and the prestige of Mercedes Benz Sometimes people forget the good things in hand and then they progress to buy other cars - and after a while, a tinge of regret creeps in ha ha Oh well, hope some fellow W124 owner is able to share his experience here with me I have owned my 1991 W124 8v 200E for 7 years now, fully paid up, drives it daily to work without much problems - towed once in 2005 when I first bought it, and then recently in 2012 towed again due to an alternator (my itchy backside wanted to try out a recon alternator) After the towing, the new alternator cost me $400 plus installation and then it's back to my best workhorse running its daily routine again :-)
  5. A video showing a white car failing to check for oncoming traffic while doing a right turn has gone viral. Unfortunately, the consequences were unpleasant as a Foodpanda motorcyclist was killed in the process. The motorcyclist, a 41-year-old deliveryman from Malaysia, was unconscious when help arrived and eventually succumbed to his injuries at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital. He was reported to have been thrown 30 metres due to the impact and suffered brain injuries as a result. According to Stomp, the accident took place at the junction of Toh Guan Road and Boon Lay Way at 7.58pm on the 10th of March. The 36-year old Mercedes-Benz driver has been arrested for dangerous driving causing death. There has been a debate that discretionary right-turn junctions should be abolished as there has been an increase in accidents related to it. Could this signal an end to such junctions?
  6. Viruses, Empty shelves, mask issues and more.. What a way to start the year well I have a plan B There’s only so much room for bad news and we’ve certainly had our fill of it So what better way than to drive off somewhere to chill out.. literally and take a almost brand new AMG A class out for a spin in the English B roads? An offer from SIA for cheap tickets to UK and a business conference allowed me to grab a week off and visit the land of pies, beans and more. Given my limited time, I’ve narrowed it down to a couple of spots and I’ll be sharing them as we go along 🙂 Let’s get to A... Which stands for AMG A class! So with B roads and many miles to cover, I was lucky and scored an upgrade from a Ford Focus to a Mercedes AMG A class. A brand new one with almost nothing on the odometer 150 quid a day for a spin in a brand new car? Not bad at all First thing to note, this version is made in Germany BUT that’s a Renault Diesel engine... and don’t let that engine cover fool .. It’s a 1.3l turbo diesel with a seven speed DCT but a proper multi link suspension. But if you get over that and get on with driving, it’s pretty good. The cabin surrounds you in nice well fitted plastics that have a soft touch. The steering wheel has great heft and the seats are really comfortable, even after 400 miles. Pick up is delivered like a wall of torque with instant reaction and within seconds you are approaching illegal speeds. Legroom at the back has improved greatly and whilst the ride is now both firm and yet comfortable despite the AMG package. The handling is superb and the steering reacts well without being twitchy. It firms up significantly at speed whilst remaining easy to use when parking and the dimensions of this compact sedan are good despite the improved legroom. Visibility all round is decent. The downsides? The noise insulation at speed isn’t good and the engine can be heard. It’s not a great soundtrack but I’ll forgive that given the power it produces. Plastics lower down are still hard but the cabin does feel well put together. The MBUX is a mixed bag.. the navigation works but the steering controls are not easy to use and the voice system is too sensitive. Whilst the steering well is meaty and lock to lock ratio is tight, there are too many things which feel gimmicky after the first five minutes. The LED screen does look nice but it’s not tilt able and tall drivers might not like the angle. Trying to make adjustments whilst driving is a little harder than it should be. Even so it’s a great ride and the fuel consumption is amazing. Didn’t even use a quarter tank after one full day out with eight hours of driving. On the B roads or the highway, this car cuts through the air and is such a pleasure to drive. When we were presses for time the car easily responded to our more urgent needs with great aplomb.
  7. I have changed my AGM battery after 2.5years, 70Ah Varta once Now the start/stop function fail again after 2 years, I thought AGM batteries can last longer than conventional type Does it mean now my battery is weak again presumably that's the cause for the start/stop failure recently? 8. Mercedes-Maybach GLS on course to face Bentley Bentayga in 2019https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/mercedes-maybach-gls-course-face-bentley-bentayga-2019 Mercedes-Benz’s upmarket Maybach sub-brand is preparing to extend its line-up beyond the S-Class with a plush range-topping version of the upcoming third-generation GLS (formerly GL). Maybach is considered an important brand for Mercedes to develop given the rising demand for luxury models, particularly in the SUV sector, with rivals such as Bentley and Land Rover having notable success with their respective Bentayga and Range Rover. Mercedes has also seen strong growth from its AMG performance arm, which achieved 131,970 sales in 2017, and it would like to emulate this success with Maybach on a smaller but profitable scale. The SUV, which was reported to be on the cards by Autocar in 2016, is set to make its debut as a lightly veiled concept car at the Beijing motor show in April. It will then be revealed in production guise at theLos Angeles motor show in November. The car is tipped to be priced above £120,000 when sales begin in 2019. The new Mercedes-Maybach GLS will build on initiatives taken with the two-year-old Mercedes-Maybach S-Class (below). The new Maybach SUV will share the same basic aluminium and steel bodyshell and advanced four-wheel- drive underpinnings as less heavily specified versions of the new GLS. However, Autocar has been told its upmarket positioning will be underlined by a series of subtle exterior design tweaks and a significantly more luxurious interior than standard versions of the US-built SUV. Insiders involved in the development of the Mercedes-Maybach concept car, known internally as the Maybach 9, say it will not only preview the look of the new model, with a bold new grille among the elements aiming to provide it with added exclusivity, but will also highlight the sort of upmarket features, including autonomous driving functions, to be offered on the production version of the SUV A high-level official told Autocar: “We have been quietly surprised by the sales success of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, which is proving extremely popular in many key markets. The plan now is to extend the exclusivity surrounding the Maybach name into the upper end of the SUV segment. We’re confident this new model will leave little to be desired in terms of luxury.” The basis for the new GLS is Mercedes-Benz’s MHA (Modular High Architecture) platform. A development of the existing MRA platform, it is intended to underpin a series of new models, including the new GLE and GLE Coupé. It provides a significant reduction in kerb weight, the capability to support a 48V electrical architecture and the very latest in radar, camera and sensor-supported driving functions. The Maybach-badged GLS is likely to be offered exclusively with the Mercedes-AMG-developed M177 V8 petrol engine. In the recently launched S560, this twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 produces 462bhp, setting up the possibility of the new model being called GLS 560 for production. The new engine, which features a cylinder-shutdown function for added fuel savings in city driving, will replace the twin-turbo 4.7-litre V8 used by today’s GLS 500. Also under discussion for the new Mercedes-Maybach model is the plug-in petrol-electric drivetrain recently unveiled in the S560e. It combines Mercedes’ new turbocharged and electronic supercharged 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder petrol engine, developing 362bhp, with a 121bhp electric motor. In the new GLS, it is claimed to use a lithium ion battery for a pure-electric range of up to 31 miles. With the GLS produced exclusively at Mercedes’ Tuscaloosa plant in Alabama, the luxury SUV will be the first Maybach model to be produced in the US. As well as providing stiff competition to the Bentayga, the Maybach GLS has also been conceived as a rival to the likes of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and Range Rover SVAutobiography. Meanwhile, Mercedes-Maybach is planning to launch an upgraded version of the S560 at the Geneva motor show in March. Among the changes planned for the saloon is a newly designed grille that will set the tone for all future Maybach-badged models. What the Maybach GLS must beat: Bentley Bentayga: Bentley got there first with its Bentayga, which has been a major lifeline for the brand. A 4.0-litre V8 diesel has gone down well alongside the W12 and a hybrid arrives this year. Rolls-Royce Cullinan: The Cullinan (its name has yet to be finalised) arrives this year. Rolls’ first four-wheel drive shares its architecture and 6.75-litre V12 with the new Phantom. Lamborghini Urus: The 641bhp Urus, on the roads in spring, is expected to double Lamborghini’s sales to 7000. The firm insists it is a high-performance car and achieves 0-62mph in 3.6sec.

  10. A petrol engine making more torque than diesel equivalent?? The dream have come true... Mercedes-AMG Details Most Powerful 4-Cyl Ever, Makes 416 HP 500 Nm Look for this engine in the A45, CLA 45, and GLB 45 in the near future. Mercedes-AMG finally announces the official specs for its new 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that goes under the internal designation M 139. In the higher-spec S trim, the mill offers 416 horsepower (310 kilowatts) and beats the previous-gen A45 with 375 hp (280 kW) to take the title as world's most powerful factory-offered four-cylinder engine ever available in a production vehicle. If we want to split some very thin hairs, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution FX-440 MR made 440 hp from its 2.0-liter four-cylinder, but production amounted to just 40 units exclusively for the UK. Specifically, the S version of the M 139 makes 416 hp at 6,750 rpm and 500 Newton-meters of torque between 5,000 and 5,250 rpm. The redline hits at 7,200 rpm. There's also a standard variant of the M 139 that produces 382 hp at 6,500 rpm and 480 Newton-meters between 4,750 and 5,000 rpm. The redline is the same 7,200 rpm. Both versions of the M 139 use a twin-scroll turbocharger. The S variant can produce up to 30.5 psi (2.1 bar) of boost, but the standard model goes to 27.6 psi (1.9 bar). To get into the nitty-gritty details, The M 139 weighs 160.5 kilograms. The four cylinders each have a bore of 83 millimeters and stroke of 92 millimeters. The mill features both direct injection and indirect injection through the intake manifold. There are two overhead camshafts operating on 16 valves, and the drive train is capable of tweaking the valve operation on both sides, in addition to Camtronic valve opening adjustment for the exhaust side. The M 139 engine will be available in a variety of models in the near future. The first of them to debut should be the new A45.

  13. We know the E 63 S is a good drive but with the unveiling of the new AMG GT 4 door, will its 63 S variant of the car be a better driver's car than the E-Class? Compared to the E63 S, the GT 63 S looks way sportier thanks to its four-door coupe design. Combined with other technical improvements like the rear-wheel steer system, it also manages to hide its mass better than its more sensible sibling. So which one of these fast saloons should you go for, the more practical and more affordable E63 S or the more aggressive and better-driving AMG GT 63 S? Watch Carfection's video and see what they have to say about the car.
  14. Deliveries of Mercedes-AMG's hypercar, One has been reportedly delayed till 2021 as there are ongoing difficulties in making the engine suitable for street use. According to Auto Motor und Sport, some parts of of the One’s powertrain is in need of refinement as engineers underestimated the difficulties posed by using such an highly-strung engine. One of the most significant challenges includes making the Formula 1-inspired 1.6-litre turbocharged V6 pass its WLTP emissions regulations. The Germany company has also been reported to face issues in making sure that the engine doesn’t require electric pre-heating before it turns over, like a race engine does. With such a high power output targeted by the company, the engineers also realised that squeezing more than 650bhp from the 1.6-litre engine could make it a tad fragile. The hypercar is set to have a combined output of more than 1,000bhp thanks to the help of four electric motors. This would allegedly be enough to send the hybrid hypercar to 200 km/h in less than six seconds and through to a top speed over 350 km/h.
  15. The new Mercedes-AMG A 45 S is not going to be the most affordable hot hatch on sale when it comes into town. So is it better than before? When the first A 45 AMG went on sale in 2013 locally, it was the fastest hot hatch in the market and everyone took notice. Fast forward to the present, Mercedes-AMG has launched the second generation A 45 AMG globally and CarWow had the opportunity to test it against its older generation. With 415bhp being churned out from its 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, the new car was always going to be faster than its 360bhp pre-facelifted predecessor. But is it also better to drive and live with?
  16. Unfortunate news for the fans of Mercedes-AMG's intoxicating exhaust note. The German company has admitted that its future performance cars won’t be as loud as those in the past as noise regulations kick in. In the article, sound regulations in Europe make sure that the car's exhaust sound output is measured in its loudest setting, rendering exhaust systems that have switchable butterfly valves not much of a use. As reported by Motoring, the head of Product Planning for the smaller AMG cars, Bastian Bogenschutz, said that cars sold outside Europe will also come with the same restrictions. “It’s coming from the European regulations. We can [design specific exhausts] but it’s too expensive for every market to do it, it’s pretty difficult,” Bogenschutz explained. To counter that, Bogenschutz said that Mercedes-AMG have to rely on sound enhancement systems that channel exhaust sound into the cabin. “The regulations were getting pretty difficult for the sound to just come from the exhaust system. So we added the AMG pure performance sound, there we take the real sound from the exhaust system, the pulsation of the real sound and move it inside the car. It works together with the exhaust system.”
  17. As someone from low income background, I never pay attention to Mercedes cars throughout my growing up years. My first glimpse of a Mercedes car was when I went my classmate's house when I was primary 1 and saw this beautiful car with pointed star outside his house, and also saw washing machines and big television and a lot of loose change in his house. Strangely I did not feel bad about myself then, though I did feel bad about myself after a few years when I became aware of this social divide and recalled this incident haha.. Ok fast forward to now. Recent years I can't help but notice that Mercedes cars look alike internally especially the front part around the dashboard and the door knobs. It is about almost the same look, from the lowly A class to the mighty S class with the same design language. I know nowadays the design will propagate from S class to A class upwards then to all the other models progressively. I attach a few pictures to illustrate the point. There are slight differences with a few car models as they are undergoing slight facelift, and expected to be the same when they undergo full model change later. Has it always been like that? I have not seen other car makers adopting such a approach, so extensively. Frankly after seeing a few, I really have no appetite for another Mercedes if it looks the same despite external differences. Please share your comments if you have anything on this. Rest assured I am not talking bad about Mercedes cars. I admire this company a lot. Cheers
  18. Curious about what horse power numbers Mercedes-AMG's upcoming A45 will put out? An online publication has managed to confirm its specifications. Labelled under the codename M139, Carscoops has claimed that the new A45 AMG will get a base output of 382bhp and 480Nm of torque from its new turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine. An S variant will have even more power with 415bhp and 500Nm of torque. A quick calculation reveals a staggering 208bhp per litre which is a figure that definitely right up there when it comes to mass production cars. Beside that, the engine revs to 7200 rpm and is said to have a torque curve that will deliver power in a fashion similar to a naturally-aspirated engine. Some interesting facts about the engine include having a new twin-scroll turbocharger that features a turbine housing with two different flow passages that run parallel to one another. It also receives roller bearings which helps to reduce friction and improve responsiveness. Elsewhere, the engine is made of aluminium and gets a forged steel crankshaft and forged aluminum pistons which reside in Nanoslide-coated cylinder liners. Mercedes-AMG has also uprated its cooling capabilities and equipped it with an electric water pump that operates independently of the engine. The car will also come with an additional radiator that supports the main radiator in front.
  19. Mercedes-Benz's CEO Dieter Zetsche, is retiring and BMW has decided to come out with a humorous video to send him off. With a Zetsche lookalike, the video imitates the CEO's last day at work as he leaves the company. We won't spoil the clip for you but what happens after that is a pretty classy poke from BMW to its rival. Zetsche has held the reigns of the company for more than 13 years and has passed on his responsibilities to Ola Kallenius at the company’s 2019 annual shareholder meeting. Zetsche is a well respected figure and has played a key role in restructuring Mercedes-Benz following the collapse of the merger with Chrysler. That said, Dieter Zetsche will return to Mercedes-Benz and he is currently complying with a two-year-long hiatus regulatory rule in order to return to Daimler in 2021 as Chairman of the Supervisory Board.
  20. In his latest video for his Chris Harris Drives series, Harris tries to convince us that the Mercedes-AMG S63 Coupe is very much an underrated GT car. We kind of agree with the him as the large luxury coupe often gets overshadowed by the its rivals from Porsche, Bentley and the likes. That being said, he reckons that the big mercedes is nowhere inferior to them as it provides him the perfect combination of speed and comfort. Interestingly, Harris drove a pre-facelift model in his video that is using the older 5.5-litre V8 engine vs the newer 4.0-litre unit found in many current AMGs. We guess it doesn't matter much as both engines are absolute gems.

  22. 2019 Mercedes Benz AMG GT 4 door coupe unveiled http://www.motortrend.com/news/2019-mercedes-amg-gt-four-door-coupe-first-look/ The Mercedes-AMG GT S is a truly fantastic car. It looks great, the interior is gorgeous, and if you drive it hard, it’ll leave you grinning like an idiot for days. Leave the race track behind, and the GT S will also devour long stretches of highway like nobody’s business. If you need a back seat, though, you’re out of luck. The GT S is a true two-seater. At least you used to be out of luck. If Mercedes-AMG is to be believed, the new GT 4-Door Coupe is a legitimate four-door sports car. Design-wise, the GT 4-Door Coupe looks more like the new CLS than the coupe it shares a name with, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The redesigned CLS is a good looking car, and AMG’s designers did a great job of making sure the four-door GT looks like a proper AMG. Even with unique headlights, a stretched cabin, and a proportionally shorter hood, no one is going to mistake this sedan for a run-of-the-mill Mercedes. Even better, the four-door GT retains the original GT’s rear hatch for an added dose of practicality. Inside, it’s a similar story. The four-door GT’s cabin borrows lots of styling from other modern Mercedes sedans, but it does get a few unique design cues. The wide center console, for example, looks like an updated version of the one found in the original GT coupe. Depending on which package buyers choose, the four-door GT’s interior can either look like a luxury sedan with its quilted leather and wood trim, or it can double down on the sportiness with carbon fiber trim, yellow seatbelts, contrast stitching, and sports seats. European buyers will have the option of a four-passenger or five-passenger version, but in the U.S., only the four-seat configuration will be available. For most buyers, the four-door GT’s performance will likely be the most important factor, and at least on paper, AMG definitely delivers. All versions get torque-vectoring all-wheel drive and a nine-speed AMG automatic transmission, and there are three different levels of power. The base version, the GT 53, gets a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six good for 429 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque. Like the CLS 53, the GT 53 uses a mild hybrid system that contributes 21 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque, allowing it to hit 60 mph in an estimated 4.4 seconds. Step up to the mid-level GT 63, and the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 makes 577 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque, good for a 3.3-second run to 60 mph, according to AMG. The GT 63 S tops the lineup with 630 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque from the same V-8. It’s also the quickest of the three, needing only 3.1 seconds to hit 60 mph. Keep going, and the GT 63 S has a top speed of 195 mph, 21 mph faster than the GT 53’s max of 174 mph. To make sure the four-door GT could hold its own on a race track, AMG says it engineered an exceptionally stiff chassis, even using a rear anti-roll bar from the GT R. The six-cylinder version uses steel springs and adaptive dampers, and the V-8s get AMG’s multi-chamber air suspension for even sportier handling. The all-wheel-drive system is rear-biased, and on the GT 63 S, it even includes a standard drift mode that completely disengages the front wheels. Drift mode is also available as an option on the regular GT 63. Both 63s come standard with a limited-slip differential and rear-wheel steering, as well. For even better handling, AMG gave the GT an active aero package. Up front, engineers borrowed the GT R’s electronically controlled louvers to manage airflow, while a multi-stage rear spoiler adjusts itself depending on how the car is being driven. In a straight line, the spoiler lowers to minimize wind resistance, but in a corner, it raises to increase downforce and improve handling. No information on pricing is available at the moment, but expect Mercedes to announce that closer to the GT’s on-sale date. For the GT 63 and 63 S, that’s scheduled to be early next year, with the GT 53 not going on sale until mid-2019.
  23. Ok now that the process has completed, I would like to share about my latest motoring experience. I have owned a 2015 Vellfire for a year, and due to many reasons I shared previously, decided to change it to 2 small rides. As I did not want to pump in much cash, I could only look at rides of upto $80k each. Good thing the Vellfire was offloaded at very good price, I eventually only need to pump in another $10k. Now what can you get for less than $80k? One thing I was not keen to go PI route again unless bopian. So the typically options if getting new rides are small japanese rides like Jazz or Note, or Korean cars like basic Elantra and K3. Then I also looked at used cars which I have never done before to see if any cars worth it. Eventually I fixed my eyes on 2013 B200 which would cost about $65k which are latest model but pre-facelift. My confidence grew after I visited a few used car dealers as the condition of the cars were really good for any 5 year old cars. The leather are basically still wrinkle free and all the internal panels and buttons are still in very good condition, unlike the jap rides I have had which look old after just 2 to 3 years. Eventually I settled on 2015 B180 which is essentially the latest facelifted model. As the 2 rides are for my wife and myself, my wife wanted to get a Jazz initially but she was put off by the Jan/2019 delivery timeline. She was not keen on Elantra/K3 after seeing them in flesh. After awhile, my enthusiasm on B180/B200 rub off on her and she decided to get a B180 as well. Now I will share why I think B180/B200 is a viable alternative compare to typical jap/Korean fares. For about the same cash outlay, it is 7 years of former vs 10 years of later. I am willing to forsake the 3 years to have better motoring experience. It is a Mercedes after all, though a lesser one so to speak. After doing test drive of Jazz/Note and seeing K3/Elantra in flesh, I am ok to give up 3 years of ownership for the B-class ride. I love the B-class ride as it is almost perfect for what I want in a small car - compact on the outside, spacious in the inside, and full of all the hi-tech features in a very safe and powerful package. Imagine century sprint of 9.1sec, assist parking, integrated TPMS, latest safety features, etc ,etc.. And best of all, it is still the latest facelifted model. And I also did abit of research on ownership cost. I used to think servicing and parts for Mercedes is going to cost much more, but reality is not really that bad. For servicing, C&C offers servicing packages of 3 and 5 servicing. For B-class, it cost about $810 for 3 servicing, and $1400 for 5 servicing. If you factor in servicing interval of 15,000km for Mercedes, 3 servicing would be more than enough to cover 2 years of servicing. This means before any replacement parts, servicing cost for my case would come to $810, which is actually lower than what I was charged for my previous jap rides over the 2 year period with 4 servicing. No doubt I have to cater more for replacement parts which is going to cost more now. And the road tax I have to pay for my B180s also cost lesser than the Vellfire, $740 + $740 vs $1800. But I have to pay more for insurance. Even for petrol also I have to pay more but not much more as the FC for Vellfire is about 7.5km/L whereas B-class should get about 12km/L sasily, so not much difference. And then I have to navigate the used car dealers to get the used B180. This part is the most tricky and dreaded as have read many horror stories. Eventually I would say I am just lucky as both cars were transferred within a week of taking over the rides after finalizing the finance part. I know I should have done more by checking service records at C&C before confirming the deal but I chose to belief the STA reports and test drives and everything look and feel normal. And after owning both rides for a week and 3 weeks respectively, I have been happy with them so far. I would not be willing to shell out the money for them brand new, but pleased tat able to get them now at about 50% off their past purchase prices. I would think they are good deals for 3 year old cars. The motivation has been to try something new as not getting young anymore. And if it does not pan out well, can just sell them away and get something else that is safer. Whichever way I see there is no harm in beating this path. And right now both my wife and myself are enjoying the rides very much as it really offer much more than the typical jap/Korean fares. And if both rides are still in good shapes 7 years from now, just need to renew the COE for another 5 years. Hope this will inspire more to do the same. My apologies for the long story, as impossible to do it in 1 or 2 paragraphs. Hope you enjoy this sharing. Cheers.
  24. The Mercedes-AMG GT R was never a soft car but the folks at Affalterbach think that there are people who want an even more focused car, giving birth to the newly-launched Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro. With 577bhp and 700Nm, the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 produces exactly the same amount of power and torque as the GT R. It also does the century sprint in 3.6 seconds and has a has a top speed of 318km/h identical to the non-Pro variant. So what is so special about the car? Watch the video above by Carfection and see what its host, Henry Catchpole has to say.
