  1. Rowan Atkinson, or better known as Mr. Bean, has a Mercedes 500E up for sale. This is the second example he has put up for sale in the recent years. The British actor has some very good taste in cars and his collection of cars has long been well documented over the years. He used to have a McLaren F1 which he crashed twice, as well as various Aston Martins, a Honda NSX, a Ferrari 456 GT and some other classic BMWs. The Mercedes-Benz 500E you see here had been featured in U.K’s Car magazine and comes with proper service history. However, it is no pristine, low mileage example as it has done more than 310,000 kilometres. Interestingly, Atkinson had more than one 500Es in his garage, with the specific car being a pre-facelift example from 1991. It is believed that he owned the car since new and kept it for four years before selling it to its second owner. 23 years later, in 2017, Atkinson managed to buy the car back and is now offering it up sale at an auction. For those who aren't in the know, the 500E was one of the best 'sleeper' cars from the 90s. With almost no sign of any go-faster parts on the outside, not many are aware of the Porsche-assembled 326bhp 5.0-litre V8 that resides in the engine bay that will allow it to do the century sprint in 5.9 seconds.
  2. Red Bull fans have been given some hope with the increased in performance from this year's version of the Honda engine. Since its return to Formula One in 2015 with McLaren, Honda has been plagued with power and to a certain extend, reliability issues. However, judging from last weekend's performance, Honda seems to have solved both problems as it racked up a podium finish with Max Verstappen’s Red Bull, managing to even overtake Vettel's Ferrari on Lap 31. As seen from Autosport, the increase in performance hasn’t gone unnoticed, and Mercedes's team head Toto Wolff pointed out that “if you look at the speed trace, it looks a very different Red Bull than before. They’re very fast on the straights and that’s good to see.” Meanwhile, Verstappen was "very pleased" with the car's race day performance. “I could at least have a go at it in terms of top speed. It’s a good progress, there’s a lot of positive things coming as well. If I just compared top speeds against the other two teams, I’m very pleased with that.” The third-place finish in Melbourne is Honda’s first ever podium since its return to the turbo V6 hybrid era.
  3. Avantgarde trims has been introduced for choice since the W204 C class and now the W205 range. It has also started for the W213 E class. In terms of design, the most obvious difference is the grille design. The Avantgarde has become a popular choice among recent Mercedes Benz cars buyers, offered on top of the once default and familiar Elegance front face. Currently only the C and E class offer such trim choices. Avantgarde front grille. Front grille is mostly focused on the big tri-star logo in the middle of the grille. Background design is normally the double wings design and recently the more beautifully designed diamond grille. It is also featured in all the AMG range models, except the S class AMG models, e.g. S63, S65. The grandfather of the Avantgarde grille is probably started from the gullwing 300SL. Elegance The most familiar front face throughout Mercedes Benz history, spanning to most of its sedan range for the past decades. This familiar face gives an identity to the brand, unmistakably a Mercedes Benz, with a car of such a front. It's design is basically a grille crossed horizontally with slim chromed wings, and a centered lined chrome to make the grille look symmetrical, simple and elegant. The top if the chrome rimmed grille finishes with a small mercedes Benz classic logo,... ... and a protruding tri start ornament. These has become a classic design language for many Mercedes Benz models for decades. W204 C class W205 C class W213 E class With the emergence of the Avantgarde grille design for more and more Mercedes Benz models, and gaining popularity among buyers, would the Elegance be pharsed out in the near future for all Mercedes Benz cars? Which do you prefer?
  4. Hollywood's elite is dressed to the nines for the 2019 Oscars-and apparently Mercedes wanted in on the action, too. It has created a special gold version of the new AMG GT 4-Door just for the event, and it seems like Mercedes is planned to feature the car in a new movie-themed ad campaign. Mercedes tweeted out a fake movie poster called "Love Altar" that features this gold-wrapped AMG GT 4-Door, and it also shared behind-the-scenes footage of the shiny gold wrap being applied to the car. We haven't seen the ad yet, but we'll post it as soon as it airs. If you don't recognize this offering from Mercedes-Benz's high-performance AMG lineup, that's because it's a new addition. Spun off from the AMG GT sports coupe, the AMG GT 4-Door uses the same platform as the E-class and sets out to provide a bit more practicality-thanks to its four-door hatchback shape-without sacrificing too much performance. The entry point is a GT53 model with a turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-six engine producing 429 horsepower, while the GT63 ups the ante to a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V-8 with 577 horsepower. The GT63 S sits at the tippy-top with its uptuned 630-hp version of that same engine. All-wheel drive is standard across the board. Pricing for the GT63 models ranges from $137,495 to $159,995; the GT53's price hasn't been announced yet. Mercedes isn't the only car company making inroads at this year's Oscars. Cadillac is a major sponsor of the show.

  9. Mercedes-AMG is on a roll with its fast expanding range. But will its latest A 35 hatchback, which is also its entry-level model, dilute the brand? According to the company's boss, Tobias Moers pointed out to Car Advice that as a new model in the AMG range, it doesn't have a negative effect on the brand. “The A35 family is not diluting the brand. We have shared components with the next 45. And driving dynamics-wise it’s on the same level as the current A45, but with less horsepower. It’s a different segment and we’re going to be really competitive with pricing." Moers then went on to explain that the car will allow them to access to brand new customers and giving them "From his perspective… value for money". Either way, we can't wait to get our hands on the car!
  10. Came across this international web article which I find should make for an interesting discussion thread especially when discussed in local Singapore context This thread is meant to be light-hearted and for many of us to share our own observation and preconception towards drivers of certain car brands on our roads. ============================================================================================== Car Brands vs. Personality Traits of Men Give a man a car and he’ll act like a kid. Give a man his favorite car and he’ll love you forever! All men dream about is having their own car since they are little kids, but as the years pass them by they start having daring dreams which are getting renewed once they get the car of their dreams. Like Owning a type of car corresponds to the verge they’ve reached in their lives. In the same way the pets resemble to their owners, by analogy, men choose their cars depending on their preferences, congeniality and, of course, according to their personality. Men’s ego must be satisfied by the brand and the car’s performances. We’ve analyzed five car brands to show you what kinds of men own such vehicles. Ladies might want to be attentive! Audi Owners The first thing that comes in mind related to these kinds of men is the fact that they are very impulsive, extremely enthusiasts and care about their car more than anything in this world. If you’ll ever ask them to choose between a woman and their car, they will definitely go with the car. They love spending time driving and they are extremely agile and seem like they are always in a hurry. They take great care about their car and if it has even the smallest scratch, they will instantly take it to the car service. They love the tuning and want to own a vehicle with as many options as possible. If you were to be a car, you will definitely have to be an Audi in order to have a caring owner. BMW Owners Related to their personality, the BMW owners are nice guys, friendly and jovial. They love to brag about their car and to stand out in every way, even if that means turning the music up. On the road, they are respectful drivers, they give priority and they have adrenaline in their blood because they enjoy the speed very much. They can’t stand having a scratch on their car but if it occurs, they wait patiently to solve the problem. BMW owners are extremely proud of their acquisition and this thing can be noticed by anyone who sees them. They can often attract the antipathy of the others because of their attitude. Mercedes Owners What we can say about them is that they are some very friendly people that want comfort and the acceptable level of luxury. They are practical men, often undecided and they are not the best drivers on the road. As for their temperament, they are friendly people and very voluble but they always succeed to maintain the necessary distance with the people around them. They are tempered and respectful drivers, who prefer to avoid confrontations than provoking them. Volkswagen Owners This type of men belongs to the category of the people who are very full of themselves, who are very aware of their value as persons and who give the impression of being very sociable. They enjoy driving their car and they are very reluctant when it comes to borrowing it to someone. They are very good drivers who take into account the traffic rules and who love traffic order, preferring to avoid the agglomerated areas. These men love to make promises without keeping them and like to excessively brag about their car and life. Opel Owners They are the men that are part of the reserved category of people. They are proud of their vehicles but they keep the feeling for themselves. This type of drivers is respectful and they take into account the fact that they have to avoid trouble in traffic. They love off-road driving and they feel very relaxed and worry-free when in their cars. They are ambitious people who love to dream about more than life can offer them. http://glamgrid.com/car-brands-vs-personality-traits-of-men/
  11. I would like to get feedback on this CPA+ feature that are standard in latest Mercedes. It is supposed to alert the drivers of imminent collision and, correct me if I am wrong, activate the brake to prevent collision from happening. This is definitely something that I find very useful and wanted in my ride. But my experieince so far is that the alert will come on erratically, sometimes out by miles when there is nothing to collide into but perhaps the road divider which the car is not deviating into. Think abit too sensitive. I would like to know if this could be raised during servicing and be calibrated? Also I would like to hear any first-hand account of whether this feature has saved your butt so far. In another owrds, whether this feature is well designed that I can depend on it when the need arises. I would think it would benefit fellow owners haha.
  12. The Mercedes Benz steering mounted gear shifter gets lots of flak and misunderstanding for not being traditional. Let me clear up some misgivings with this post and hopefully help fellow mercedes owners understand and operate their ride with more confidence. The top concern about the gear shifter is accidental activation of gears (due to mistaking it for the signal/wiper stalk). From my understanding of the shifter, it is an electronic shifter with no mechanical link to the transmission. That fact allows the Mercedes engineers to program in failsafe guards to ensure safety and protect the transmission. At low speed from 0 up to 10kph, the gear shifter is programmed to allow you to go from N to R. It is presumably to facilitate parking situation. See the attached photo I took of my own cluster LCD. Note the arrows. These arrow heads denote that it is possible to shift into these gears indicated. Note the speed. When the speed goes above 10kph, the arrow head at the R position disappear. Meaning you can at most engage N but not R in the event of a mistake. So, yes, you can accidentally engage neutral while you are driving but you will not be able to force the R mode without coming down to a <10kph speed. That will be a deliberate action imho. So, no, your 7G-9Gtronic will not self destruct without your deliberate help.
  13. Don't you think it's quite chio... Although is a bit bland, but I think it's classy. The interior is just super nice and techie. I'm quite excited for the A class Saloon.
  14. German cars are normally very appreciated. Volkswagen, Porsche, BMW, Mercedes and other brands are very famous all over the world. But maybe the most famous are these last two. Which one do you prefer? BMW or Mercedes?
  15. The Maybach brand has been resurrected. Mercedes-Benz is now using it as a nameplate for the stretched S600L. Wonder how many of those can they sell in Singapore. It should do better than the old Maybach. http://www.autoblog.com/2014/11/19/mercedes-maybach-s600-official/
  16. For research purposes, what are your favorite concept car designs you've seen in the recent years? Mine is definitely the BMW Vision Next 100, just because it looks sick as hell.

  20. Just discovered this A45 AMG and is totally amazing , I really hope CnC Merc will bring it to SG at a 'reasonable price' since this is an 'entry model merc' Pls Enjoy and tell me what you think

    Mercedes CLA

Autocar - Mercedes CLA This new entry-level Merc will look like a shrunken CLS (which is not a bad thing). To be priced as an entry-level executive car and sit below C-Class, sharing the platform with the new A-Class. While not sure what engine variant will be available in Singapore, given the current C180K 1.6l, we may be able to get a similar engine for this CLA. With such looks and if priced below the current C180K, it should be another winner for Mercedes. Hope it gets launched here, tentatively in 2014
  22. Will like advice from fellow car enthusiasts for advice on the 3 cars: Which will you put your money in and why? (Thanks for giving me your reason!) I am aware that the 3 of them belong to different categories but their prices are pretty similar and imho, they all look good and each one with their individual ups & downs. WHICH is WHY I am caught in a dilemma in which to get. I had also test driven them, except the CLA250(not available for test drive) and am loving how the Jag handles and how wonderful the pull of the BMW is. Test driven the CLA180SB, underpowered and am not a fan of FWD, especially so for wagon driving. For my needs, it's basically a 4-5door family-type of car with a fun aspect, definitely. Not too shabby a price when I sell in 3-4years time. Jaguar XE CLA 250 Shooting Brake BMW 330i, F30 Thanks in advance for all your helpful inputs!
