  1. 2019 Mercedes Benz AMG GT 4 door coupe unveiled http://www.motortrend.com/news/2019-mercedes-amg-gt-four-door-coupe-first-look/ The Mercedes-AMG GT S is a truly fantastic car. It looks great, the interior is gorgeous, and if you drive it hard, it’ll leave you grinning like an idiot for days. Leave the race track behind, and the GT S will also devour long stretches of highway like nobody’s business. If you need a back seat, though, you’re out of luck. The GT S is a true two-seater. At least you used to be out of luck. If Mercedes-AMG is to be believed, the new GT 4-Door Coupe is a legitimate four-door sports car. Design-wise, the GT 4-Door Coupe looks more like the new CLS than the coupe it shares a name with, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The redesigned CLS is a good looking car, and AMG’s designers did a great job of making sure the four-door GT looks like a proper AMG. Even with unique headlights, a stretched cabin, and a proportionally shorter hood, no one is going to mistake this sedan for a run-of-the-mill Mercedes. Even better, the four-door GT retains the original GT’s rear hatch for an added dose of practicality. Inside, it’s a similar story. The four-door GT’s cabin borrows lots of styling from other modern Mercedes sedans, but it does get a few unique design cues. The wide center console, for example, looks like an updated version of the one found in the original GT coupe. Depending on which package buyers choose, the four-door GT’s interior can either look like a luxury sedan with its quilted leather and wood trim, or it can double down on the sportiness with carbon fiber trim, yellow seatbelts, contrast stitching, and sports seats. European buyers will have the option of a four-passenger or five-passenger version, but in the U.S., only the four-seat configuration will be available. For most buyers, the four-door GT’s performance will likely be the most important factor, and at least on paper, AMG definitely delivers. All versions get torque-vectoring all-wheel drive and a nine-speed AMG automatic transmission, and there are three different levels of power. The base version, the GT 53, gets a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six good for 429 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque. Like the CLS 53, the GT 53 uses a mild hybrid system that contributes 21 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque, allowing it to hit 60 mph in an estimated 4.4 seconds. Step up to the mid-level GT 63, and the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 makes 577 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque, good for a 3.3-second run to 60 mph, according to AMG. The GT 63 S tops the lineup with 630 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque from the same V-8. It’s also the quickest of the three, needing only 3.1 seconds to hit 60 mph. Keep going, and the GT 63 S has a top speed of 195 mph, 21 mph faster than the GT 53’s max of 174 mph. To make sure the four-door GT could hold its own on a race track, AMG says it engineered an exceptionally stiff chassis, even using a rear anti-roll bar from the GT R. The six-cylinder version uses steel springs and adaptive dampers, and the V-8s get AMG’s multi-chamber air suspension for even sportier handling. The all-wheel-drive system is rear-biased, and on the GT 63 S, it even includes a standard drift mode that completely disengages the front wheels. Drift mode is also available as an option on the regular GT 63. Both 63s come standard with a limited-slip differential and rear-wheel steering, as well. For even better handling, AMG gave the GT an active aero package. Up front, engineers borrowed the GT R’s electronically controlled louvers to manage airflow, while a multi-stage rear spoiler adjusts itself depending on how the car is being driven. In a straight line, the spoiler lowers to minimize wind resistance, but in a corner, it raises to increase downforce and improve handling. No information on pricing is available at the moment, but expect Mercedes to announce that closer to the GT’s on-sale date. For the GT 63 and 63 S, that’s scheduled to be early next year, with the GT 53 not going on sale until mid-2019.
  2. Ok now that the process has completed, I would like to share about my latest motoring experience. I have owned a 2015 Vellfire for a year, and due to many reasons I shared previously, decided to change it to 2 small rides. As I did not want to pump in much cash, I could only look at rides of upto $80k each. Good thing the Vellfire was offloaded at very good price, I eventually only need to pump in another $10k. Now what can you get for less than $80k? One thing I was not keen to go PI route again unless bopian. So the typically options if getting new rides are small japanese rides like Jazz or Note, or Korean cars like basic Elantra and K3. Then I also looked at used cars which I have never done before to see if any cars worth it. Eventually I fixed my eyes on 2013 B200 which would cost about $65k which are latest model but pre-facelift. My confidence grew after I visited a few used car dealers as the condition of the cars were really good for any 5 year old cars. The leather are basically still wrinkle free and all the internal panels and buttons are still in very good condition, unlike the jap rides I have had which look old after just 2 to 3 years. Eventually I settled on 2015 B180 which is essentially the latest facelifted model. As the 2 rides are for my wife and myself, my wife wanted to get a Jazz initially but she was put off by the Jan/2019 delivery timeline. She was not keen on Elantra/K3 after seeing them in flesh. After awhile, my enthusiasm on B180/B200 rub off on her and she decided to get a B180 as well. Now I will share why I think B180/B200 is a viable alternative compare to typical jap/Korean fares. For about the same cash outlay, it is 7 years of former vs 10 years of later. I am willing to forsake the 3 years to have better motoring experience. It is a Mercedes after all, though a lesser one so to speak. After doing test drive of Jazz/Note and seeing K3/Elantra in flesh, I am ok to give up 3 years of ownership for the B-class ride. I love the B-class ride as it is almost perfect for what I want in a small car - compact on the outside, spacious in the inside, and full of all the hi-tech features in a very safe and powerful package. Imagine century sprint of 9.1sec, assist parking, integrated TPMS, latest safety features, etc ,etc.. And best of all, it is still the latest facelifted model. And I also did abit of research on ownership cost. I used to think servicing and parts for Mercedes is going to cost much more, but reality is not really that bad. For servicing, C&C offers servicing packages of 3 and 5 servicing. For B-class, it cost about $810 for 3 servicing, and $1400 for 5 servicing. If you factor in servicing interval of 15,000km for Mercedes, 3 servicing would be more than enough to cover 2 years of servicing. This means before any replacement parts, servicing cost for my case would come to $810, which is actually lower than what I was charged for my previous jap rides over the 2 year period with 4 servicing. No doubt I have to cater more for replacement parts which is going to cost more now. And the road tax I have to pay for my B180s also cost lesser than the Vellfire, $740 + $740 vs $1800. But I have to pay more for insurance. Even for petrol also I have to pay more but not much more as the FC for Vellfire is about 7.5km/L whereas B-class should get about 12km/L sasily, so not much difference. And then I have to navigate the used car dealers to get the used B180. This part is the most tricky and dreaded as have read many horror stories. Eventually I would say I am just lucky as both cars were transferred within a week of taking over the rides after finalizing the finance part. I know I should have done more by checking service records at C&C before confirming the deal but I chose to belief the STA reports and test drives and everything look and feel normal. And after owning both rides for a week and 3 weeks respectively, I have been happy with them so far. I would not be willing to shell out the money for them brand new, but pleased tat able to get them now at about 50% off their past purchase prices. I would think they are good deals for 3 year old cars. The motivation has been to try something new as not getting young anymore. And if it does not pan out well, can just sell them away and get something else that is safer. Whichever way I see there is no harm in beating this path. And right now both my wife and myself are enjoying the rides very much as it really offer much more than the typical jap/Korean fares. And if both rides are still in good shapes 7 years from now, just need to renew the COE for another 5 years. Hope this will inspire more to do the same. My apologies for the long story, as impossible to do it in 1 or 2 paragraphs. Hope you enjoy this sharing. Cheers.

    Merc c200k

folks, my bro is looking to buy a used c200k, probably 07 or 08 model. Most of them have mileage around the century mark. he is fine with the mileage, but worried cost of major servicing, in particular for cars that either hit 100k or 110k, or after x number of years.. any benz drivers can offer when is a c class is due for major servicing and how much roughly? Cant advise him as i have not owned benz makes before.. thanks.
  4. Carwow has brought together the Mercedes-Benz A35 AMG and four of its rivals together for their usual series of performance tests. Will the current range topper of the A-Class be fast enough to fend off the current batch of hot hatches? Featuring the BMW M140i, Volkswagen Golf R, Audi S3, and the Ford Focus RS(the only manual in the test), the A35 AMG battles them in a drag race from a standing start, a rolling race and a brake test. Watch the video and see for yourself how strong the A35 AMG is against the rest!
  5. Hi, Anybody tried the Racechip Ultimate? Any feedback? http://racechip.com.sg
  6. Avantgarde trims has been introduced for choice since the W204 C class and now the W205 range. It has also started for the W213 E class. In terms of design, the most obvious difference is the grille design. The Avantgarde has become a popular choice among recent Mercedes Benz cars buyers, offered on top of the once default and familiar Elegance front face. Currently only the C and E class offer such trim choices. Avantgarde front grille. Front grille is mostly focused on the big tri-star logo in the middle of the grille. Background design is normally the double wings design and recently the more beautifully designed diamond grille. It is also featured in all the AMG range models, except the S class AMG models, e.g. S63, S65. The grandfather of the Avantgarde grille is probably started from the gullwing 300SL. Elegance The most familiar front face throughout Mercedes Benz history, spanning to most of its sedan range for the past decades. This familiar face gives an identity to the brand, unmistakably a Mercedes Benz, with a car of such a front. It's design is basically a grille crossed horizontally with slim chromed wings, and a centered lined chrome to make the grille look symmetrical, simple and elegant. The top if the chrome rimmed grille finishes with a small mercedes Benz classic logo,... ... and a protruding tri start ornament. These has become a classic design language for many Mercedes Benz models for decades. W204 C class W205 C class W213 E class With the emergence of the Avantgarde grille design for more and more Mercedes Benz models, and gaining popularity among buyers, would the Elegance be pharsed out in the near future for all Mercedes Benz cars? Which do you prefer?
  7. Hollywood's elite is dressed to the nines for the 2019 Oscars-and apparently Mercedes wanted in on the action, too. It has created a special gold version of the new AMG GT 4-Door just for the event, and it seems like Mercedes is planned to feature the car in a new movie-themed ad campaign. Mercedes tweeted out a fake movie poster called "Love Altar" that features this gold-wrapped AMG GT 4-Door, and it also shared behind-the-scenes footage of the shiny gold wrap being applied to the car. We haven't seen the ad yet, but we'll post it as soon as it airs. If you don't recognize this offering from Mercedes-Benz's high-performance AMG lineup, that's because it's a new addition. Spun off from the AMG GT sports coupe, the AMG GT 4-Door uses the same platform as the E-class and sets out to provide a bit more practicality-thanks to its four-door hatchback shape-without sacrificing too much performance. The entry point is a GT53 model with a turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-six engine producing 429 horsepower, while the GT63 ups the ante to a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V-8 with 577 horsepower. The GT63 S sits at the tippy-top with its uptuned 630-hp version of that same engine. All-wheel drive is standard across the board. Pricing for the GT63 models ranges from $137,495 to $159,995; the GT53's price hasn't been announced yet. Mercedes isn't the only car company making inroads at this year's Oscars. Cadillac is a major sponsor of the show.
  8. I recently changed a set of rims from a workshop. i was assured that the set of rims i have chosen PCD 5 x 113 are able to fit my ride of PCD 5 x 112 after which after fixing, i felt the right front wobbling ... despite wobble nuts and fitting center ring...
  9. Hi all, Tried searching but can't get a comprehensive ans on this. Only managed to get bits and pieces of info here and there. I'm looking at getting a new E Class, not sure E200 or E250. Definitely PI as i find the sales service at CnC not that great and it's too overpriced compared to buying from PI. I have bought from PI before but only jap cars, never continental. I understand the general feedback from most people is that conti cars run on more electronics so there's a higher tendency for conti cars to have abit of electronic issues/replacements that need to be done from time to time even though Merc is supposed to be the best in terms of reliability for conti cars. So i have a few questions as follows: 1. Which workshop has one of the best equipment, experience in servicing Merc cars? Can they handle it if there are real serious issues or under what situations can i only turn to CnC for their help? (i hear names like MBM, Auto Spritz, Star Black etc) 2. If i turn to CnC, is the admin fee still $500 or has this changed? What other docs would i need? 3. Is the warranty and the workshop basically the same? Which warranty coverage is generally the most reasonable? 4. I'm not looking to pay the cheapest but just want to pay reasonable pricing to service the Merc. Which workshop would be best? Lastly, is the E250 worth getting over the E200? Seems like from Merc SG website, the specs look rather similar. Thx all
  10. Approaching New Year 2019 soon! For car sellers, it means: - meet Dec target, get monthly bonus! - meet Q4 target, get quarterly bonus! - meet H2 target, get 2nd half bonus! - and if meet 2018 target, get big big bonus!!! So they can probably sacrifice profit margin for 1 or few cars just to meet the big big bonus. For car buyers, it means: - more aggressively priced cars due to above points - facelift new cars introduced, older one will go on discounted sale - sometimes even just change of year manufacturing, outgoing year go on discount - get rid of old display units, test units, management units - hoping for COE to drop even further So please share all year end car deals you are aware of, from: - social media ads - newpaper print ads - brochures - roadshow sales Thank you and good luck to all car sellers and buyers! All brands welcome. :)
  11. I would like to get feedback on this CPA+ feature that are standard in latest Mercedes. It is supposed to alert the drivers of imminent collision and, correct me if I am wrong, activate the brake to prevent collision from happening. This is definitely something that I find very useful and wanted in my ride. But my experieince so far is that the alert will come on erratically, sometimes out by miles when there is nothing to collide into but perhaps the road divider which the car is not deviating into. Think abit too sensitive. I would like to know if this could be raised during servicing and be calibrated? Also I would like to hear any first-hand account of whether this feature has saved your butt so far. In another owrds, whether this feature is well designed that I can depend on it when the need arises. I would think it would benefit fellow owners haha.
  12. The Mercedes Benz steering mounted gear shifter gets lots of flak and misunderstanding for not being traditional. Let me clear up some misgivings with this post and hopefully help fellow mercedes owners understand and operate their ride with more confidence. The top concern about the gear shifter is accidental activation of gears (due to mistaking it for the signal/wiper stalk). From my understanding of the shifter, it is an electronic shifter with no mechanical link to the transmission. That fact allows the Mercedes engineers to program in failsafe guards to ensure safety and protect the transmission. At low speed from 0 up to 10kph, the gear shifter is programmed to allow you to go from N to R. It is presumably to facilitate parking situation. See the attached photo I took of my own cluster LCD. Note the arrows. These arrow heads denote that it is possible to shift into these gears indicated. Note the speed. When the speed goes above 10kph, the arrow head at the R position disappear. Meaning you can at most engage N but not R in the event of a mistake. So, yes, you can accidentally engage neutral while you are driving but you will not be able to force the R mode without coming down to a <10kph speed. That will be a deliberate action imho. So, no, your 7G-9Gtronic will not self destruct without your deliberate help.
  13. Can find any thread related to the new A class (W176). Any bro or sis can share your review?
  14. See pic below. I checked the manual and could not find anything related to this issue. just send to workshop? Any advise? thanks.
  15. Don't you think it's quite chio... Although is a bit bland, but I think it's classy. The interior is just super nice and techie. I'm quite excited for the A class Saloon.
  16. Hi everyone. Need some advise here. I accidentally scratched a mercedes while trying to reverse my lorry n the owner is asking for repair compensation. So i would like to know how much is the total cost to repair a scratch mercedes market price before i got con for extra charges. Help me pls. Thanks in advance.
  17. Dear mycarforum reader, Recently I heard from one of my friend that the car he is driving for less than a year has faulty pair of absorbers. This car is from a high end dealer and is very popular in Singapore. He contacted the dealer and was told that the pair of absorbers will be replaced only free of charge as it is on warranty. What would you do if you are the owner of this car? Welcome feedback. cheers.
  18. Third AMG GT Roadster variant sits between the current GT and GT C, with 0-62mph taking 3.8 secondshttp://www.autoexpress.co.uk/mercedes/amg-gt/103486/new-mercedes-amg-gt-s-roadster-unveiled https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6sT73b5jQwI The new Mercedes-AMG GT S Roadster has been revealed. It’s the third variant to join Affalterbach’s drop-top sports car lineup, and it sits between the current GT and GT C in terms of performance and price. Under the bonnet sits the same ‘hot vee’ eight-cylinder twin-turbo used in the rest of the AMG GT range - and indeed almost every other current 63-monikered AMG. An output of 515bhp places the GT S between the standard 469hp GT and the GT C’s 549hp. The 670Nm peak torque also sits between the other two - 10Nm below the GT C but 40Nm above the GT. As a result, the GT S covers the 0-62mph dash in 3.8 seconds en route to a top speed of 191mph. Similarly, the chassis spec sits between the two current Roadster incumbents. The GT S features an electrically-controlled limited slip differential and adaptive damping - neither of which are fitted to the standard GT Roadster - while the wheels measure 19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear. They house composite brake discs that measure 390mm at the front and 360mm at the back. Drivers who wish to focus the driving experience further can upgrade to the AMG Dynamic Plus package. Stiffer suspension, active engine and transmission mounts and a retuned steering setup aim to deliver a sharper drive, while inside the pack adds an alcantara-effect steering wheel and yellow details in the dials. Four-wheel steering is also an option; the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction to the fronts at low speeds to aid manoeuvrability, but turn in the same direction at higher speeds to boost stability. First deliveries of the GT S are due in July this year, and although Mercedes is yet to confirm prices, the current AMG GT pricing structure suggests customers should expect to pay around £124,700.
  19. The Maybach brand has been resurrected. Mercedes-Benz is now using it as a nameplate for the stretched S600L. Wonder how many of those can they sell in Singapore. It should do better than the old Maybach. http://www.autoblog.com/2014/11/19/mercedes-maybach-s600-official/
