  2. wonder if you guys travel for for company business by own car, Do you claim mileage? and what is the rate? regards

  4. Dear Bros, Now with the stupid additional tax on petrol, shouldn't be the mileage claim from one's employer be adjusted as well? The question here is how much is then consider reasonable?
  5. Out of curiosity fellow forum members, what kinda mileage are you all doing in a month?? I'm clocking 3000km/month, commuting from Woodlands to Tuas and at least twice a week to my JB branch... Works out to be about 36,000 - 38,000km a year including twice yearly trips up north to KL/genting.
  6. What are your views on a car mileage tax in Singapore, in place of COE? Instead of charging drivers a high “ownership tax”, a mileage tax charges drivers based on distance travelled. A mileage tax could potentially increase awareness of the environmental an congestion impacts of driving. To explore the possibility of this usage-base tax, we created a short survey to help us understand your thoughts on this. The survey takes around 15 minutes to finish. We really appreciate your feedback. To begin the survey, click here: http://goo.gl/glhTih If there is any question or concern about the study/survey, please feel free to email sutdvehiclesurvey [at] gmail.com. Thank you for your inputs!
  7. Hi, A have a question and hope someone can give comments. My colleage borrow the company vehicle for a day. However, he had travel approximately 165km in just a day. Is that possible? I don't think our average delivery man will travel more 100km daily. Thanks
  8. Hi Bros, my Getz is 8yrs old with 100k mileage. a) Recently, noted that when I step/dab accl, can hear high pitch squel, not loud but still audible. b) Despite changing to new battery, occasionally car sounds "stressed" starting up. ( though can start at 1st attempt) c) never change alternator b4. Not sure about starter motor. d) Steering wheel produces soft whiny sound when turning. But other than that, cant feel any diff. e) slightly higher idling. approx. from 650rpm to now 700-750 rpm. f) I am the only owner since new. g) No mods done other than cosmetic. h) Timing belt changed at 80k mileage & did the SOP major servicing. (also changed engine mount ) I) Used a KNN filter from 17k - 97k mileage. Now using normal air filter. J) Recently changed cooling coil for air con. Any bro here able to advice what could be wrong & the approx. cost to replace those parts? Thanks.
  9. Hi bros, just had an enquiry. Assuming the existing mileage cap on my current car insurance is 10,000km for the calendar year from 1 Jan 2013 to 1 Jan 2014. Today's in Oct and yet I have already overshot the stated mileage limit e.g. 13,000km as of Oct. What's the implication? If I carry on driving, does this mean I will not be covered anymore by the car insurer? Also, at the point of the upcoming insurance renewal, will they charge me a penalty fee for exceeding the 10,000km mileage limit without informing them? If I do inform them now that I have already busted the 10,000km limit, will they be charging me extra? Any bros know how all these work? Thanks man!!
  10. wow that's about 4.8 million km of mileage!
  11. can anyone share with me what's the average mileage (km) for vehicles?

  13. I am writing to question why sgcarmart removed the mileage when a car is sold. This results in errant car dealers a loophole to tamper with the car mileage and indirectly misleaded the consumers. Can I know why they want to do that?

  15. [extract] Volvo cars are built like a tank. We have probably heard someone mentioning this to us. Older Volvo cars are known to be durable and long lasting, provided it is well taken care of. And since there are examples of such cars, Volvo has created a Heritage Club in the United States for high mileage cars. The club was created in order to recognise Volvo owners
  16. TWO days after he sold his car to a second-hand dealer, he saw an online advertisement for the same vehicle posted by the dealer. Something in the ad surprised the car owner, who wanted to be known only as Mr Xavier. It was advertised that the mileage recorded for his two-year-old Toyota Corolla Axio was about 29,000km. But Mr Xavier, who is in his 50s, said he noted down the car's mileage as about 76,000km when he sold it. That was when Mr Xavier, an administrator, suspected that the car's odometer, which records the distance travelled, could have been tampered. On average, cars here are driven for about 20,000km a year. Mr Xavier's friend contacted The New Paper after reading our report last month about tampered odometers. Mr Xavier said he had sold his car to a used car dealer in Ubi on Nov 11 for about $45,000. He had bought the four-door sedan brand new for about $58,000 two years ago. He said his car's mileage was high because of his daily commute - he lives in Hougang but his office is in Tuas. When he saw the online ad on sgCarMart.com for his car two days after he sold it, the mileage advertised was much lower - only about 29,000km. The car was offered for $52,800. He said: "I called the sales consultant to whom I sold the car. He said that the mileage must have been put up by mistake. When I checked (the online ad) later, it was never changed. "And the ad even said the owner was a lady." Mr Xavier also showed us a copy of his car's last servicing record at Comfort DelGro Engineering, which was dated July last year. It showed that his car's odometer reading then was already about 41,000km Investigating Mr Xavier said he later sent his car for servicing in Malaysia, before eventually selling it last month. Posing as a buyer, this reporter viewed the car on Wednesday. One of the company's used car sales consultants said that the car's previous owner was "a lady", and that the mileage was correct - at 29,000km, as reflected on the odometer. When we identified ourselves over the phone to the same sales consultant yesterday and asked if the odometer had been tampered with, he said no. He added in Mandarin: "When we received the car, the mileage was already around this number (29,000km). We didn't tamper with it and we don't tamper with odometers." But he said that the company is investigating the incident anyway. The ad was taken off the website shortly after we spoke to the sales consultant. But Mr Xavier remains unconvinced. He is now concerned that his car might be sold off to an unsuspecting buyer. He suggested that odometer readings be registered with the Land Transport Authority regularly. The New Paper reported last month that the Consumers Association of Singapore (Case) said the number of cases of tampered odometers are on the rise. It received eight such complaints or feedback from consumers this year alone, compared with four such cases in the previous three years. All the cases involved consumers who bought second-hand cars, and a different dealer was involved in each case. In most cases, the consumers discovered the tampering after they sent their cars for servicing. Only two dealers were known to have taken the car back after that. Some of the car owners have also asked dealers for compensation or partial refunds. Mr Seah Seng Choon, Case's executive director, advised used car buyers to check where the car was last serviced and verify the records with the authorised agents. They can also check the records on the car's service log book. Lawyer A P Thirumurthy had said in the previous TNP report that tampering with odometers is not a criminal offence unless it can be proven that a particular dealer had done so to deceive buyers. This article was first published in The New Paper.
  17. done a search on sgcarmart on some second hand cars, found out some of them 1-2yr old and have very low mileage lesser than 10k. are they lemons or what? have been asking around, no one really know if they are lemons until they bought it. that will be really ugly. seriously does anyone know how to find out they are lemons?
  18. [extract] Envia Systems, a small battery company with investment from General Motors (GM), is working on new technology that could allow an electric car to travel up to 322km on a single charge within the next 2 to 4 years. That is about the distance between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. Speaking at an employee meeting, GM
  19. Dear Members, Everything is going HD lately. For the benefit of our readers, I have re-created a new poll in HD to better clarify the results as mentioned by a few brothers in the old thread. In view of the blatant odometre tampering in Singapore, I hope that this poll will give used car buyers a feel of the distance covered by a car in a year to make a better decision. Don't think there will be a third one as I am not planning a trilogy. If it is, it will be in 3D. The numbers will have to jump at you.
  20. In view of the problem of odo tweaking of used cars, I hope that this poll will provide a feel of the kind of distance covered by a car in a year for buyers. So if you see a 5 year old car with too low mileage, chances are it is too good to be true.
  21. I traded in my car recently and here is the actual mileage clocked by the car under my ownership. If you come across this car in the used car market, expect no less than the mileage shown in the photo. Please share yours to build the database, I reckon it will help those who are in the market for used cars. 22. Looking for a used car, and realize many with either very high mileage (>30k per year), or many owners (3). Those with low mileage and 1 owner are high very high price. Given no choice (means ur budget dun permit a low mileage and 1 owner car), which one would you go for? A reasonable mileage car with many owners? or a one owner car with very high mileage? I even saw some cars with 3 owners and very high mileage, but condition is good.... price v low! comments?
