  1. Just a couple of months ago, Mini announced that they will expand their line-up with a new model and that model will be the all new Mini Paceman. The Paceman is styled as a coupe interpretation of the Countryman and it is set for a launch in the United Kingdom in March 2013. Four versions of the Paceman will be made available when it arrives, including the Mini Cooper S Paceman which will have a 0-100km/h timing of around 7.5 seconds. The seventh unique member of the Mini family will sit alongside the Hatch, Clubman, Convertible, Countryman, Coupe and Roadster. The Paceman has been created to appeal to a new type of design-conscious customer. The prominent horizontal lines and dynamic curved surfaces give the promise of sporting performance, yet there is an elegant simplicity to the overall form of the car. The three door Paceman is built on the Countryman platform. Bumper to bumper the car is 4,109 mm (4,115mm for the Mini Cooper S Paceman and Cooper SD Paceman), which makes it almost identical in size to its sibling. The upright front grille, complete with hexagonal radiator grille and broad chrome surround, gives the Paceman genuine presence. Its coupe-style stretched side profile features long doors, while the blacked-out pillars create a 'floating' roof concept, as already seen on the Mini Coupe. Available in either black, white or body colour, the roof gently slopes towards the rear of the car, ending at the spoiler. The horizontal arrangement of the rear lights, which accentuates the car's width, is a first for Mini. The Paceman is the only member of the brand's line-up to be identified by a rear nameplate. The car's interior has been designed specifically for this model. Its highlight is the innovative rear seat, which has been styled around a lounge concept. Two individual chairs provide generous levels of head, shoulder and knee room with outstanding comfort and support. Armrests have been integrated into the rear trim. A two section version of the Mini Centre Rail storage and attachment system (first seen in the Countryman) comes as standard. Paceman customers will have the choice of four powerful four cylinder engines, two petrol and two diesel. All come with a six speed manual gearbox, or the optional six speed automatic with Steptronic function for manual control. The base model will be fitted with a 1.6 litre engine that generates around 122bhp, with a 0-100km/h timing of 10.4 seconds. The Mini Cooper S Paceman will get a similar engine but tuned to deliver 184bhp and a 0-100km/h timing of 7.5 seconds. There are also two diesel engines offered. First is a 1.6 litre unit that makes around 112bhp and the flagship diesel model will get a 2.0 litre unit that churns out 143bhp. Mini
  2. [extract] This will be the third and last instalment of iconic cars from movies and TV shows. In the first instalment, I did mention two of my favourite movie cars which were the Ford Gran Torino from Starsky and Hutch and the Mini 1000 from the show Mr. Bean. I will talk about these two cars in this final part of the article. Let us continue with this last instalment. British Leyland Mini 1000 from Mr. Bean The Mini is a part of the British automotive heritage and it even came in second place in an international award ceremony, Car of the Century (the winner was Ford
  3. Mini recently announced that the Mini Clubvan will go into production and the numerous types of engines used were also announced. The company plans to debut the production version of the car later this year and also plans to release it some time next year. But even before the general public gets to see the car, a controversy has arisen recently, concerning the Clubvan. A fifteen year old teenager from East Sussex, United Kingdom has claimed that he suggested the production of the Clubvan to Mini and he has the proof to back it up. Back in 2009, Alexander Goldsmith (12 years old at that time) wrote a letter to Mini and suggested that they produce a van and he even named it the
  4. [extract] Lately, Mini is moving forward with the announcement of a commercial model, the Mini Clubvan. And now it seems that the Mini model range is expanding even further. Mini has announced that they will release the Mini Paceman next year. The announcement was made during an annual road trip event which is known as the

  7. http://www.netcarshow.com/mini/2013-clubvan/ Would Eurokars bring in the Mini Clubvan? It's a cool car and would definitely qualify for G-plate. Any estimate on how much it would cost (as a G-plate) and how much it would be if you import one yourself?
  8. Late last year, Mini revealed a quirky looking concept known as the Rocketman. It was smaller in size compared to the Mini hatchback and it was ideal for urban dwellers. But soon after the Rocketman Concept was released, Mini had to place the idea on the shelf. This was mainly due to the overall size of the Rocketman which said to cause handling and stability issues. With the announcement of Mini releasing a revised Mini Rocketman concept for the London Olympics, there is a possibility that the concept is due for a return. The new edition of the concept car sees Mini reaffirming its commitment to the brand's British roots. The new Mini Rocketman Concept wears its British heritage on its sleeve, most prominently in its exterior and interior colour schemes and more subtly through the use of extremely high-quality materials and stylish details. All in all, it embodies a typically British form of sporting elegance. The colours of the Union Jack, looks prominent on both the outside and inside of the car; where red and white accents accompanies the dominant dark blue. The body's non-metallic paintwork is interspersed with exposed carbon components at the front end and around the doors. And the 18-inch light-alloy wheels have white polished areas and a metallic red accent. Matt Porcelain White paintwork is also used for the mirror caps, boot opener and surrounds for the radiator grille and headlights. The grille structure, made up of MINI logos, could certainly be described as eye catching, thanks to its red metallic paint finish and contrasting white surround. A red strip emphasises the path of the hallmark MINI diagonal link between the wheel arch and door at the foot of the A-pillar. This takes a particularly chunky form on the concept car and also makes a feature of the door hinges. The two-section split boot opening consists of one upward-pivoting element and a second segment which extends out of the body in the form of a drawer and which is also painted blue on the inside in the new Mini Rocketman Concept. The rear lights have a trapezoidal stirrup design and work using projector technology. Another special feature is the distinctive lighting design for the roof. The concept car has a full-surface glass roof, where illuminated braces recreate the look of Britain's Union Jack flag. The interior of the car exudes a sporting ambience, while intricate details emphasise the car's connection to London. The inner door panels and rear side sections are trimmed in dark blue nubuck leather, while the familiar MINI elliptical door rings provide an effective contrast with their white leather. The circular surrounds for features such as the air vents, door pulls and stereo speakers are split into two sections and consist of a red inner ring and white outer ring. The exposed carbon elements in the interior accentuate the Mini Rocketman Concept's high-tech character and are incorporated into its colour scheme. For example, the blue paintwork used for the dashboard merges smoothly into black around the steering wheel, producing a harmonious flow of colour into the dark carbon surfaces. The most distinctive element of the dashboard is the cockpit surface, which is bordered by a red bar and has a striking 3D effect. Its relief structure depicts the name of every host city of the summer Olympic Games in the modern era using artistically intricate lettering, with London given particularly prominent billing. The seat surfaces blend blue nubuck leather with an innovative textile fibre. The upper sections of the seats' side bolsters, which provide additional support under dynamic cornering, are made from a rubberised material whose composition takes its cues, in terms of both style and function, from high-performance sports textiles and shoes. The seat belts also share the dark blue tone of the seat surfaces, while thin red and white strips add extra flourishes. The new design of the Mini Rocketman Concept also displays its sporting spirit, Brit-chic style and eye for extravagant details through the range of sophisticated accessories for the interior. The stowage compartment on the centre console between the driver and front passenger symbolises a basketball court with miniature players. The key fob for the new concept car, meanwhile, comes in the form of a rocket decked out in British national colours. Other interior features include a rucksack attached behind the front passenger seat, which is made from the same rubberised material used for the seat bolsters and also sports the three-dimensional cockpit motif. The new edition of the Mini Rocketman Concept cuts an unquestionably British and an unmistakably Mini automobile. Designed to welcome the athletes taking part in the "greatest sporting show on earth" to London this summer, the new edition of the concept car underlines the central role played by typically Mini customisation in every new product idea from the brand. 9. The Mini hatchback is close to its sell by date. Now in its second generation, the model has been around for over 10 years (since 2001). It was reported last month that the company were planning to release a special model for the final farewell of the Mini hatchback. It will be known as the Mini John Cooper Works GP II and pictures of it has surfaced on the Internet. This is not the first time Mini has pulled this trick. The Mini John Cooper Works GP was released when the first generation Mini hatchback was about to be replaced with a new model (which is the current generation Mini hatchback). The original Mini John Cooper Works GP was generally a tuned and stripped out Mini JCW. Churning out 218bhp from its 1.6-litre turbocharged four cylinder engine. The rear seats were removed and replaced with an internal strut brace, aluminium suspension components and also removed was the sound insulation. This resulted in a 40kg weight loss and a century sprint of less than 6.5 seconds. The above is pretty much about the original Mini JCW GP. Now let us see what Mini has to offer for the JCW GP

  11. Earlier this year in January, MINI announced its plans to revive the MINI Van and showcased the vehicle at the Geneva Motor Show. The car will be based on the MINI Clubman and the company called it the MINI Cargo. At that time, there were no photos or rendered images on how the car would look like. Just before the above mentioned auto show began, MINI showed images of the car and they also changed the name to the MINI Clubvan. Initially, the company stated that the MINI Clubvan will only be a concept and they have no immediate plans to put the vehicle into production. It is during auto exhibitions where many automakers gauge public reaction to a certain new offering before deciding whether it will go into production. In this case, MINI used the recent Geneva Motor Show to see how popular their MINI Clubvan was. And it appears that the public fully approves it and MINI will enter the Clubvan into production. The MINI Clubvan is hugely based on the Clubman

  14. The latest news is that BMW Mini has decided that is will stop development of the properly small Mini Rocketman. This car was previewed as a concept car at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show and I was genuinely excited that there was going to be a proper Mini instead of those ultra large Minis that we have right now. How unfortunate that this will now not be a reality. It seems that the Mini Rocketman concept will not be further developed as the car's really short wheelbase and overall length (304mm shorter than a regular BMW Mini) has created handling, stability and crash protection issues. If Mini were to modify the basic design it would have to spend more money. This isn't the case with BMW who are actually owned by spoilsports. The reason I say this is that this BMW who owns the Mini brand these days is a profit driven enterprise and the proof of this is the statement made by Albert Biermann, BMW M
  15. Confessions of a budget hotel manager By Joyce Lim, The New Paper | Tue, Jan 31 2012 Describing her job as "never boring", this hotel front office manager shares about the type of guests she meets and secrets of the trade. She is one of the first people to be informed when the police will be raiding the hotel that she works in. Janice (not her real name), 32, is a front office manager. As part of the job, she has to assist the police in their anti-vice operations. "I will inform the hotel's security officers to closely monitor the CCTV cameras and give specific instructions to the housekeepers to be on the alert when they enter the specific rooms suspected of vice-activities," says Janice, who agreed to speak to The New Paper on Sunday, on the condition that we do not disclose her identity or name the hotel that she works in. What we can say is that it is a relatively inexpensive hotel in Chinatown and Janice reveals that police raids and vice activities are common there. The hotel's guest services staff are trained to identify vice suspects, says Janice. "Single women who travel alone are high on our suspect list. We nickname them 'night angels'. Other tell-tale signs include paying for their room charges with $10 notes. "When there is a suspect, the staff will make a photocopy of the guest's passport and alert me. And I will check the guest into a room that can be closely monitored by our CCTV cameras. "It's usually a room on the lower floors and away from our highly valued corporate customers." Janice adds: "Over the next few days, we will see from our CCTV cameras who are the people entering and leaving that particular room. "In most instances, we will find many different men entering the rooms and staying there for 20 to 30 minutes each. "On average, such women service about eight men a day. They come from all nationalities. Recently, there have been more Koreans and Thais, as compared to Chinese. "The housekeeping staff will note the things in the rooms, like extra towels that do not belong to the hotel. Yes, they usually bring their own towels. "They will also check the litter bins for used condoms and stained tissues. Once we have gathered enough evidence, we will tell the guest to leave. Even if she has made the full payment for her stay, we will not refund her the money." It is Janice's job to chase such "unwanted" guests out of the hotel. And she needs to be firm in telling the guests to leave, even though deep down inside, she pities them. "It's very embarrassing for them when we produce the evidence," Janice says. "When some of them refuse to open their doors, our hotel staff would have to force our way in. "These women would appear so scared and sometimes, they would fall backwards onto the beds. It's a very pitiful sight." Janice has been working in the hotel industry for close to a decade. She describes her job as "never boring" as it allows her to meet people from all walks of life. Besides the prostitutes, she gets a fair share of "country bumpkins and cheapskates" checking into her hotel. Once she had to attend to an angry guest who complained that the "microwave oven" in her room failed to work. "I was puzzled when I was told of the complaint by my receptionist. I went to the guest's room and I tried so hard to contain my laughter when she pointed to the safe box and complained that 'the microwave' didn't work," recalls Janice. "I looked into the box and saw a bowl of curry, waiting to be heated up." Then there are the cheapskates who wipe out the mini-bars and deny having taken anything from there. Janice says: "Unless we find evidence of the emptied bottles in the bins inside the rooms, we can't prove that these guests consumed them." And if you don't mind being a lying cheapskate yourself, this is what she has to add: "The next time you take the drinks from your hotel room's mini-bar, just dispose of the empty cans and bottles, and bang the table when asked to pay. Chances are, you will get away with it."Secrets of the trade 1. When dealing with angry and unreasonable guests, always put yourself in their shoes. That way, you will be able to convince them that you understand their problems and things will be easier to resolve. 2. When you suspect that a guest is a "night angel", strike up a conversation with her like talking about her occupation and asking for her business card. 3. Never embarrass your guests, especially when their credit card transactions cannot be approved. Tell the guests that the credit card machine is faulty and ask if they have other cards that you can charge their stay to.

[extract] When the new Mini first emerged around 10 years ago, it was only available in one body type. In other words, there was only one model; the Mini hard-top hatchback. It was offered in several engine variations and trims (Cooper S, John Cooper Works, One, etc.). Five years later, the new Mini was offered in convertible form. Consumers did not have much choice when they look at the new Mini. It was either a hard-top version or a convertible. But starting from 2008, Mini has added two new models. Firstly, it was the Mini Clubman which was basically the estate or elongated version of the Mini hard-top hatchback. Two years later came the Mini Countryman. It was a crossover SUV and the company
  20. Roughly almost two years ago, Mini introduced its iPhone controlled and internet enabled system known as the Mini Connected infotainment system. The system offers exclusive options to further enhance the driving experience and keep drivers connected to the outside world. The system features a newly developed USB interface that integrates with the Apple iPhone. Some of the available features, via a free iPhone app also known as Mini Connected, enables the drivers to link the iPhone and the car to provide news, Facebook and Twitter feeds, internet radio streaming, audio player control and etc. Now, the Mini Connected infotainment system has expanded its features with several new functions such as Condition Check, Force Meter and Digital Sports Instruments. The Condition Check function monitors a range of vehicle systems such as engine temperature, fuel level and Sports mode settings. It even monitors the current weather. If all these vehicle systems are in order, the system will display a
  21. Dear brothers and sisters of MCF, This morning I experienced "groaning" sound coming from the front when I was braking from speed ranging from 30-50km/h. I didn't drive my car after last Sunday when I drove through a mini flood till today morning. My steering doesn't feel any jerk while braking but the sound sounds pretty scary, I haven't tried high speed braking yet though. So I was hoping to hear some advice from you guys. Should I go to a workshop to do a check? If yes, do you have any reliable and recommended workshop to do a quick check? (preferably not too far from the east) Thank you so much in advance! Regards, Tsr729
