  1. What could be the problem when the recirculation mode is not working? I set the recirculation mode to ON but I still can smell fumes from outside. Is something worn out inside? Anyone has this problem before? As well, part of the dashboard doesn't have any light. Is it difficult to replace the bulb inside the dashboard? Have to dismantle the whole dashboard eh? Thank you.
  2. Matrix's AirCon control is always by default return to fresh air mode after you turned off your engine.. find that's it hell of inconvenient.. this DIY mod will be able to set the default to always closed at recycle mode. There is 2 step to be done, 1st is the air con control unit, 2nd is to reverse polarity of the aircon flap above the air con blower/filter. You'll need to remove the centre console 1st, refer to here for Removing Hyundai Matrix Centre Console http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/Asian_Make...cs%29_P2324088/ Here goes Part 1:- Insert the scrapper and pry open the plastic casing, pulling off the speed knob 1st will make it eassier to pry open Air Con main control unit Right Side Recycle Button with stock green LED Left side Air Con Button with stock green LED Desolder both LEDs from the back and pull out The LEDs including the plastic holder Stock Green LEDs with the plastic holder Prepare 820 ohm resistors and LEDs After removing the LEDs look for the 3 small holes on the recycle button (right side) Close up Insert a New LED with the positive (+ve) leg into the right hole (previously occupied by the stock negative(-ve) LED), and the -ve leg of the new LED into the the small centre hole below it. Pictures here show the new LEDs in place, leave the original +ve hole empty for the time being, you may wish to remain stock green LED, just follow the above step with the original LED instead of a new one.. Turn over the pcb board and solder the +ve, next solder the -ve leg to the ground on the pcb board. cut the resistor to shorter length insert the resistor to the empty +ve hole and solder next, solder the other end of the resistor to the +ve led of the new LED Next, insert a new LED into the left side of the pcb board of the air con control unit with the original polarity and solder it, cut away excess length after soldering If you wish to remain stock green LEDs, the above step no need to do... Whola you're done...happy DIYings... *disclaimer: this mod is for sharing, in no way will the poster be responsible for any mishap or damage done... :naughty: surface mount LEDs on my air con control... surface mount LEDs are damn small not easy to solder.. however it offers a consitant shade of White color... completed LED mod on my Air Con Control
  3. When parking the car, is it ok to leave the auto transmission in P mode while not using hand brake or parking brake? Will this damage the transmission, even when not parking on a slope or incline?
  4. Today early afternoon saw a TP went past me and flag a slow moving lorry on lane 2 on the ECP towards city. I realised its a TP because of the checked box on the bike and the blinker light, I could not see the familiar belt strap across the body thought he was wearing white. Then at the junction of Marymount Rd/Bishan St 22 saw 2 riders turning into Sin Ming from Marymount. I thought I saw the 2 red blinker light in front. Only thing is one bike was the familiar white but the rider was not his familiar uniform and the other - a yellow bike! I wonder if they will have one in the familiar red one for the Fortune God!
  5. Asking on behalf of my bro. It happened lately that his car after cold start does not move off. Usually without acceleration cars will lurch forward when we release the brake & move off at a low speed but he's doesn't & have to accelerate to get the car move off. The symptom disappears after driving a distance. What could have gone wrong? His ride is a Picnic, auto
  6. how did you get started with depeche mode? for me, my younger sis brought home the 101 cds and the love affair began. that was in the early 90s. they were one of the gloomiest, darkest, somewhat monotonous songs I heard then. at the same time they felt so sensuous (not sexy but sensuous), moving, abstract and stirring, they connect with reality instead of immersing you in fantasies. eagerly awaiting their next album due in 2013. hope its in the mould of the 101 songs. (p.s. some of their earlier songs are pussy sounding synthesizer pop though)
  7. Hi guys, need some advise. I parked my vehicle at an open carpark and left. Upon coming back I noticed a dent on my front bumper. Luckily my car has a car cam and it captured clearly the vehicle that did it. Apparently the accident happened when the driver beside me was trying to drive out but I think because there was some illegal parking infront, the driver tried to steer nearer to my car in order to drive out and somehow too close and knock on my bumper. So what I have done was right after the accident: - lodged a Police Report - went to my insurance authorised workshop to lodge a report to claim against 3rd party This happened like 3 weeks ago. I then checked with the other party's insurance coy and apparently they have already issued a notice to the driver but the driver did not respond. I Was told the insurance will send 3 reminders to that driver over a span of 3 months and if the driver still did not respond, it will be referred to the TP and they said they MIGHT not honour any claims. My question is then what should I do. Who is going to compensate my damages? I assume if this goes to TP, the law will take care of the driver but then how about my repairs? My car is still moving around with the dent right now. Thks.

  18. Just received this news from MCF newsletter: http://www.sgcarmart.com/news/article.php?AID=2275 Isn't it a bit unfair for car owners who purchased their rides recently? Anyone interested will have to pay $150 for the new IU.. LTA launches dual-mode In-vehicle Unit for cars From 30 June 2009, new car owners will have their vehicles fitted with the new generation In-vehicle Unit (IU). 30 Jun 2009 | Local News Viewed : 1,269 times The new IU is designed to accept both the existing NETS CashCard and CEPAS-compliant cards such as the new CEPAS-compliant ez-link card. Motorists have a choice to use either the NETS CashCard or the CEPAS-compliant ez-link card once the cars are fitted with the dual-mode IU. On top of the existing NETS CashCard, motorists with dual-mode IUs also have the option of using CEPAS-compliant cards for parking charges at Electronic Parking System (EPS) car parks that support the CEPAS standard from October 2009 when these EPS car parks are progressively upgraded. Details will be announced at the end of September 2009. On top of accepting both CEPAS-complaint stored value cards and existing NETS CashCard's, the new IU also supports CEPAS-compliant cards that allow for automatic top-up if the remaining stored value is below a pre-determined amount. The top-up feature may be activated at the point the card is purchased. To easily differentiate new from old, the dual-mode unit is 34% to 50% smaller than the current IU, depending on the vehicle class. Car owners are not required to change their current IU to the dual-mode IU. Nevertheless, motorists who wish to change to the new IU may do so at LTA Authorised Inspection Centres at a cost of $150 (before GST and inclusive of installation). Motorists are advised to call the Centres beforehand to make an appointment. Since the introduction of the dual-mode IU last year, more than 17,300 vehicles have been fitted with the new IU. This comprises 14,900 motorcycles from September 2008 and 2,400 taxis/other vehicles from March 2009. For enquiries on the dual-mode IU, motorists may call LTA at 1800 CALL LTA (1800 225 5582).

  22. Dear Community Partners, CRIME ALERT: USE OF COUNTERFEIT MONEY AS MODE OF PAYMENT (FOR YOUR INFORMATION) Police has recently received reports of unknown person using counterfeit money as mode of payment. To date more than 30 cases were reported and as we approach the period of festive sales, we would like to reiterate the importance for being vigilant. Modus Operandi Please take note that the culprit will normally use a fake currency note of S$50/- note (commonly bearing the serial number: 2EY322725) at pubs, restaurants, petrol kiosks, convenient stores and 4D outlets for purchases. The scam can also take in other forms ie culprit may also seek assistance in changing loose notes using counterfeit money, on the pretext of urgent need,. Crime Prevention Measures Public and sole proprietors should remain alert and pay extra attention when customers pay for purchases using higher denominations of cash, e.g. S$50/-. Below are a few measures which can assist public to identify counterfeit notes and prevent you from falling victim to a similar ruse. What to look out for? 1. Counterfeit Notes using serial number: 2EY322725; 2. Poor quality paper that has a waxy surface without the following intaglio: a. No raised printing; b. No shimmering effect on the kinegrams; c. No Security Thread; and 3. Although the counterfeit note simulated the outline of the watermark, but it does not have three-dimensional portrait of the late President Yusof Bin Ishak when examined under light. What you can do when you receive such notes? 1. When presented with the counterfeit note, do not return the suspected note to the suspect; 2. Delay and keep the suspect at sight and if possible contact the police immediately; 3. Take note of the description of the culprit, eg gender, age, height, built, attire, scars/tattoos, accent of language or any distinct features; 4. Note the suspect(s)
  23. Many people probably sneer at me, because I wash my car once a week. Then again, it's a new car, and my first car. So I had been asking myself this question, why I even bother, because after a while it might become another mode of transport, and after a few dent, I'll probably be immuned to it. That's what many of my colleagues told me would happen to me. But looking back, I think about why I did I buy a car? My honest conclusion is: It's really a vanity thing. It's a kind of show off to others, and it's a projection of my image. The other so called reasons like being able to drive my wife & kids around, easier for my work etc etc, are just nice excuses. So keeping that in mind, I'll probably be working hard at keeping my ride in good shiny condition for a pretty long time. Just want to get it off my chest....
  24. Was at Four Seasons Hotel this morning waiting for a friend from overseas, when I spotted this Traffic Police Officer on the overheadbridge setting up his camera and tripod. But instead of facing his camera towards Wheelock Place, to face oncoming traffic from Orchard MRT (Orchard Boulevard), he positioned his camera to face the opposite direction, facing the direction of Four Seasons Hotel instead. So now, when driving & you look up the overhead bridge to spot for TP camera, and seeing none, you speed up, only to have your REAR no. plate snapped when you drive past the overhead bridge!!! Now I know why those TP on overheadbridges on the PIE have suddenly disappeared. They have repositioned their cameras to face the opposite direction, the rear of your car!!! There are no signs stating the speed limit of Orchard Boulevard, so it means the speed limit on this wide 4 lane rd is 50km/h. It is very easy to exceed the legal speed limit if you are not careful. Beware and please drive carefully and adhere to speed limits.
