  1. Caterham Motorsport celebrated the completion of its maiden Le Mans 24 Hours at the La Sarthe circuit by finishing 11th place (out of 22 entries in its class) in the LMP2 category. The team came in 24th in the overall standings. Drivers Alexander Rossi, Tom Kimber-Smith and Eric Lux delivered behind the wheel of the Caterham Motorsport Zytek Z11SN-Nissan despite suspension failure and a puncture. From the lights, Kimber-Smith took the Caterham LMP2 as high as fifth place in class, before handing over to Caterham F1 reserve driver, Alexander Rossi, in his first ever Le Mans race. The American driver
  2. Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) has announced that the completely redesigned 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander crossover will be the 'Official Safety Vehicle' for this year's Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC) to be held on June 30th. With advanced safety features including Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM), the seven seater 2014 Outlander will represent Mitsubishi in serving as the Official Safety Vehicle for this annual event. In addition to its safety technology, the Outlander is available with the company's Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) all-wheel drive system that provides superior stability, traction and control - perfect for negotiating not only the numeral twists and turns of the Pikes Peak course but also the instantaneously changing harsh weather and road conditions along this high elevation route. The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution will also join the Outlander as a supplemental safety vehicle. These vehicles were built specifically for the race with support coming from a number of firms including BBS USA, Cobb Tuning, Kenwood USA Corporation, and Muellerized Suspension Tuning. In Mitsubishi Motors' debut in last year's running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, its innovative i-MiEV Evolution all-electric prototype racing car scored an impressive second place finish in the Electric Vehicle Division in 2013. For the 91st hill climb, Mitsubishi Motors returns with an all new, more powerful electric powered prototype racing car dubbed the MiEV Evolution II in a two-car assault, in the very capable hands of two-time Dakar Rally winner Hiroshi Masuoka and six-time Pikes Peak overall motorcycle champion and 2002 SCORE International off-road series champion Greg Tracy. Held in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, the challenging Pikes Peak International Hill Climb features a unique road course that is 20km in length with 156 corners, commencing at an elevation of 9,390 feet and finishing at 14,110 feet. First run in 1916, this annual event is the second oldest motor race in America after the Indianapolis 500. Mitsubishi Motors will also serve as the Presenting Sponsor at the 2013 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
  3. Dutch car manufacturer - Spyker - will return to Salon Prive with two models featured on both the Concept Lawn and as part of the Audemars Piguet British Super Car Show at Syon House in September. Spyker has recently revealed the production-confirmed B6 Venator, which will feature on the Concept Lawn, with a Spyder (convertible) version also expected to be revealed later in the year. The Spyker B6 Venator Concept is a compact, two-door mid-engine sports car that Spyker claims will offer the discerning driver of the highest standards a new choice, delivering a rare combination of heritage, design, performance and exclusivity. Designed by Victor R. Muller, Chief Executive Officer of Spyker N.V., the Spyker B6 Venator Concept makes a contemporary statement whilst paying homage to its past. Highly detailed design, bespoke materials and aviation-inspired elements are a core part of the Spyker DNA. With the announcement of the Spyker B6 Venator Concept, the company once again proves its Latin axiom: Nulla tenaci invia est via (For the tenacious no road is impassable). The name 'Venator' is Latin as well, meaning 'Hunter' - a nod back to Spyker's Hunter fighter aircraft of the early 20th century. The Spyker B6 Venator Concept will begin production in early 2014 for key markets including Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific and India, followed by the U.S.A in autumn 2014. The C8 Aileron, last seen at this year's Geneva Motor Show, will be displayed as part of the Audemars Piguet British Super Car Show, proudly demonstrating why this year's production of the model has already sold out. Salon Prive's David Bagley said, "I'm delighted to have Spyker at Salon Prive once again and showing a stunning lineup on both the Concept Lawn and as part of the Audemars Piguet British Super Car Show. We have a brilliant show coming together this year, the biggest and best ever in fact, and we're very much looking forward to seeing it all come together over the three days in September." The eight Salon Prive will run from Wednesday the 4th of September to Friday the 6th of September at Syon Park, London. Several new product debuts, as well as the Chubb Insurance Concours d'El
  4. Toyota MR2 Well, it's no longer a secret that the Bugatti Veyron is the world's fastest production car. With that being said, I can understand why there's a fair number of people in this world who desire to have one example of the supercar of their very own. Unfortunately, such a fast supercar bears a very high price tag and thus, not every single person in this world can afford to buy one. However, this doesn't necessarily mean that there's no solution to it, as in the case of this Toyota MR2. Bugatti Veyron plastic body kit Well, I can say that the owner of the car must really desire the Bugatti Veyron. He prepared everything to make his car completely look like the world's fastest production car ever built. The owner wraps his Toyota with a plastic body kit resembling the body of the Veyron. Mind you, the plastic body kit even comes with a fake rear engine compartment as well! Well, I think the owner is quite satisfied with his work. His original Toyota MR2 now looks just like the supercar he's always dreamed of, except for the somehow rather long wheelbase, perhaps. While the owner may have successfully transformed the exterior of his Toyota MR2 into that of the Bugatti Veyron, I wonder how he feels when people notice that the engine doesn't sound as awesome as that of the real W16 engine implanted on a Veyron. But then again, not everyone is aware of how a Bugatti Veyron really sounds, I guess. Toyota MR2 Spyder Although there's no mistake in pursuing one's dream, I would rather stick to the original MR2 or, maybe even better, the owner should have transformed the car into the Toyota MR2 Spyder instead as it will give him a better result, I believe.
  5. Later this month, 40 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghosts will depart from Vienna, and journey through cities like Austria, Slovenia, Croatia and Italy before returning on 29th June in a bid to faithfully re-enact the 1913 Alpine Trial. With the date drawing closer, final preparations are underway with Rolls-Royce Motor Cars' Authorised Dealer in Essex, P&A Wood, playing an essential role in ensuring cars are in perfect condition. Eight of the 40 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghosts participating in the rally, many over a century old, have been meticulously prepared by the dealership
  6. Like the ninth generation Honda Civic, the Chevrolet Malibu mid-sized sedan has received a facelift barely a year after its launch during the second half of 2012. This would generally indicate that the new model is not well received by the public. "The 2014 Chevrolet Malibu builds on the strengths established by the all new 2013 Malibu to make it a stronger choice for customers," said Mark Reuss, President, General Motors North America. "The midsize sedan segment is the most contested in the industry and we
  7. Ever wondered how vehicle wrapping or car art is done? The above video shows an ordinary MK7 Golf being turned into a shiny hatchback. The job is performed by London-based car art company, Creative FX. The Golf itself is supplied by UK dealer, Driftbridge Volkswagen. There are two practical advantages that I can think of regarding the transformation. Firstly, a highly reflective surface helps to reduce heat buildup in the cabin. Secondly, the owner does not have to send his car for polishing ever again! We can see that car art needs a lot of patience and attention to details. The Golf in the video needs to be 'de-badged' and 're-badged'; the door handles are removed and put back; extra care is required when going around curved surfaces like the side mirrors. If the video has got you interested in the work performed by Creative FX, here's the link to their website - http://www.fxuk.net/
  8. Drayson Racing Technologies has announced to make an attempt for the FIA World Electric Land Speed Record on 25th June at RAF Elvington in Yorkshire, U.K. It's the latest challenge to be undertaken by the pioneering electric motorsport firm, which has been at the forefront of sustainable racing since 2007 and was first to sign up for the new FIA Formula E championship series. The attempt will be made in the sub-1000kg class to be piloted by entrepreneur, racing driver and former U.K. Science Minister Lord Drayson. He will drive a low-drag version of the Drayson B12 69EV electric Le-Mans Prototype flat-out along Elvington's 2.99km long runway. Lord Drayson will aim to better the current record of 281km/h set by Battery Box General Electric in the United States back in 1974. Lord Drayson, CEO and co-founder of Drayson Racing Technologies, commented, "It is not the outright speed that is impressive about this record attempt, but the engineering challenge of accelerating a 1,000kg electric vehicle to such a high speed and sustaining that speed, before stopping safely all within a relatively short distance then turning round and doing it again within an hour." With the electric land speed record it intends to showcase what is possible with an electric drivetrain and underscore Britain
  9. Ford is celebrating 21 years as an official UEFA Champions League partner and this year marked the company's largest ever presence at the four-day UEFA Champions Festival. Ford made its presence felt with the new Kuga, Fiesta ST and special guest driver - Ken Block. The new Ford Kuga was featured heavily in the build-up to the UEFA Champions League Finals appearing on match-day hoardings in stadiums around Europe and leading Ford's 'Drive to Wembley' competition. Drive to Wembley was the largest ever ticket giveaway for a UEFA Champions League Final that saw 360 winners from 27 countries around Europe attending the match between FC Bayern Munich and BV Borussia Dortmund. Fans at festival experienced the new Ford Kuga with test drives that highlight Ford
  10. 2013 marks the 50th anniversary since McLaren was founded by New Zealander - Bruce McLaren. As part of the celebration, the British carmaker has announced the limited edition '50' 12C in both coupe and spider (convertible) body styles. Only 100 examples will be produced. Developed by McLaren Special Operations, the limited edition 12Cs are available in 3 exclusive colours - Carbon Black, Supernova Silver or McLaren Orange. For the exterior, updates include a re-designed front bumper, black McLaren badge on the hood and carbon fibre trim for the lower section. Unique 19/20-inch ultra-lightweight alloys in Satin Black finish and carbon ceramic brakes round up the exterior revisions. For the cabin, we can find subtle branding for the carbon fibre sill panel and floor mats, and a '50' anniversary plate on the driver's door. The 50 12C will come with a monogrammed car cover and a limited edition car key that resides in a carbon fibre presentation box.
  11. There is a new gentleman in France, and a fast one. This gentleman runs on four wheels instead of two feet. The heart of this man is a twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V6 engine which pumps out 542bhp. We are talking about the GT-R Gentleman Edition which Nissan has offered specifically for sale in France. Only 10 units will be built. Based on the GT-R Black Edition, the Gentleman Edition is available only in Gunmetal Grey. The limited edition GT-R is distinguished by a pair of 'Gentleman Edition' badging located at the front fender vents. On the inside, the super car gets amber red leather upholstery and an individually-numbered titanium plaque. The leather-stitched steering wheel, gear stick and dashboard receive a sporty two-tone treatment. Gentlemen, start your engine!
  12. Although the 2014 Lexus IS is available with an optional F-Sport package, some may feel that it is not aggressive enough and want more. Good news. The folks at TRD have come up with a performance and styling kit for the baby Lexus. On the styling front, the sedan can be ordered with an aerodynamic body kit that includes a front spoiler, revised side skirts, a rear diffuser and an integrated trunk spoiler. Customers can also order a four-tailpipe sports exhaust system and 19-inch forged aluminum wheels that sports a 15-spoke design. To improve the handling and steering feel, TRD retunes the suspension by adding a set of sport springs and dampers to make the car sit closer to the ground. TRD also offers underbody member braces. The engine output of the car remains unchanged. At the moment, the TRD aero kit and performance package are available only in Japan and the parts can be ordered separately.
  13. Peugeot has introduced a limited production RCZ Magnetic Edition for the U.K. market. Only 170 examples will be built. When I read the name "Magnetic Edition", I thought the RCZ will come equipped with some magnetic suspension. Apparently, I was wrong as the updates are cosmetic in nature. The RCZ Magnetic Edition will be offered in exclusive Pearlescent Pearl White or Metallic Nera Black. Other exterior revisions include matte black roof arches and black grille. The sexy coupe wears 19-inch Sortilege Wheels in Onyx Matte Black finish. Going on to the interior, this special RCZ pampers the occupants with leather sport seats. The steering gets wrapped in leather while the word "Magnetic" is engraved on the door panels. The driver can count on the Peugeot Connect Navigation System to get to his destination. Under the hood, two engines are available, namely the 1.6-litre THP with 156bhp or 200bhp and a 2.0-litre HDi diesel churning 163bhp.
  14. When you have what it takes (and by that, I mean the money), there's no need to worry whether or not you will get what you want, even from such a world class automaker as Koenigsegg. At least, this is what happens in China. The Swedish automaker has built a stunning gold-plated Koenigsegg Agera R, and gives it the name Zijin, most likely specifically by request. The car seems to suit its name really well. It's painted with brilliant purple on the outside - a one-off finish which will really catch your eyes - and features gold on the inside. Just for your information, 'Zijin' is a Chinese word meaning 'purple gold'. However, don't be mistaken as not the entire interior is made of gold. The interior components that are gold plated include the centre console, air vent surrounds, steering wheel trim, and also a wide array of knobs and buttons. Well, to be honest with you, even if I had the money, there's no way I would have decorated my hypercar with the precious metal, although the metal did make the car look nice somehow. One problem I would be worried about is the added weight of the vehicle. Nevertheless, this doesn't seem to be a problem whatsoever in this case. To overcome the weight problem of this particularly made-for-Chinese car, Koenigsegg has decided to make use of its 5.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine which is capable of delivering 1040bhp. Check out the images to witness the Koenigsegg Agera R Zijin.
  15. Volkswagen is working on a carbon fibre roof option for performance versions of the Volkswagen Golf. Although Volkswagen did not specify the specific models, it would be safe to assume that the GTI, GTD and 'R' variants would be receiving the carbon fibre treatment. According to Dr Ulrich Hackenberg, Volkswagen's Research and Development Chief, the challenge at the moment is to develop a set of waterproof joints to seal the roof to the car's body sides and to its windshield. The carbon fibre roof will provide a weight saving benefit of about 18 to 20 pounds (eight to nine kilograms), improving performance and fuel economy. There are no details on the pricing or launch date for the option at the moment. In recent years, there has been a great interest in the use of carbon fibre material among car makers. BMW and Boeing announced last year that they were collaborating on carbon fibre materials while Volvo has been working on a carbon fibre flywheel technology that can provide up to 25 percent fuel savings when paired to a four-cylinder turbo engine over a six-cylinder unit.
  16. The Skoda Rapid Sport concept will make its world premiere at the Worthersee tuning show in Austria. The concept gives the plain looking Rapid sedan an extreme makeover and turns it into a boy racer's fantasy. The Sport Concept is painted in two-tone metallic Steel Gray and Corrida Red and wears aggressive 19-inch red alloy wheels. The exterior is complimented by a body kit and twin exhausts pipe at the rear. The darkened side mirrors, head lights and grille remind us that this is a rapid sedan from the dark side. The recessed hood completes the external updates. According to Skoda, the sporty layout continues in the interior of the car, with a sports type steering wheel, Recaro seats and illuminated door sills. No engine details are available at the moment but given its promising looks, anything less than a 2.0-litre TSI would be a disappointment. Marking the 32nd year of the Volkswagen Group event, the 2013 Worthersee show takes place in Reifnitz, Austria between 8th to 12th May. Skoda will display the Fabia RS Motorsport, Citigo Motorsport and an accessorised 2013 Octavia Combi alongside with the Rapid Sport Concept.
  17. Volkswagen will be offering two new special edition versions of the award winning Volkswagen Up! in Europe and it will be a treat for fans of rock genre of music and small city cars. Dubbed the Groove Up! and Rock Up!, both vehicles are based on the top-specification High Up! model, each bringing its own unique twist. In the cabin the Groove Up! comes with a rock friendly Fender sound system (the above picture refers to a similar system from the Beetle), complete with six speakers, a subwoofer and a 300-Watt amplifier. Additionally, the Maps & More personal infotainment device is offered as standard which along with touchscreen satellite navigation provides Bluetooth phone connectivity and music streaming
  18. Frustrated by that resonating door panel? Or are you irritated with external noises or distortion from the speaker panel? Most existing builds of cars have soundproofing materials in them but they are not enough to deliver the sound reduction that is up to expectation. This article aims to provide you with a reliable solution for this very problem. What is noise and noise pollution? The definition of noise itself is highly subjective. To some people, the roar of an engine may be satisfying or thrilling but, to others, it may be annoying. Loud music may be enjoyable or a torment, depending on the listener and the circumstances. In general, any form of unwelcome sound is noise pollution, whether it is the roar of a jet plane overhead or the sound of a barking dog a block away. Noise pollution is, hence, not easily defined. Part of the difficulty lies in the fact that it is different from other forms of pollution in some ways. One measure of pollution is the danger it poses to health. Noise causes stress, and stress is a leading cause of illness. Therefore, any form of noise can be considered pollution if it disrupts the activity or balance of life and in worst cases, causes annoyance, sleeplessness, fright, or any other stress reaction. What is soundproofing and what are its benefits? Soundproofing is the process of lowering the intensity of a sound by surrounding the source of the noise with noise absorbent materials or surfaces. Any means of reducing the sound pressure with respect to a specified sound source and receptor can be considered as soundproofing. There are several ways to reduce sound and in the case of soundproofing for cars, it is the treatment of a surface to create a barrier to stop noise from passing through this barrier to the other side. Whether it's a Mercedes-Benz or a Kia, all cars can benefit from extra sound proofing. The important thing about sound proofing is that the amount of external noise and vibration is greatly reduced. A quieter journey, less distraction, and an overall more comfortable environment are what you can expect when you start sound proofing your car. Sound proofing will make any car trip feel like a million-dollar joy ride. As for car audio enthusiasts, sound proofing is critical. Nothing will spoil your sound more than a resonating panel, or a vibrating door frame. NoiseBlock BY-BDS 10 NoiseBlock BY-BDS 10 is a product specialty of UK-based firm NoiseStop Systems Singapore. This product originated from the NoiseBlock range of specialised soundproofing building materials for use in everyday construction projects. It was then realised that this technology could be explored in the field of automotives as consumers wanted silent, peaceful and noise-free environments in their vehicle cabins. More notably, these materials are also supplied for use in Singapore Airlines' Boeing 777 aircraft for soundproofing purposes. Advantages of NoiseBlock BY-BDS 10 NoiseBlock BY-BDS 10 is one of the best products on the market for treatment of noise control in automotive, industrial, marine, and aviation industries. This latest advancement to the BY-DS series features an improved elastic compound mixed with viscoelastic polymer binder as the compact layer. The core objective is to convert the energy of noise into heat, and at the same time, quench vibrations through its elemental abilities. This is then laminated to a Metallic Aluminium Based Dampening Sheet to take conduct of any flanking noise and then dissipate its energy across the surface of the material. The final layer comprises of an Ultra High Density mixed polymer noise absorption professional grade foam. This unique combination cannot be found in other products which fail to match up to the performance of NoiseBlock BY-BDS 10. Some of these products include Blu-Tack painted black with aluminium foil or Black Blu-Tack with aluminium foil and plasticine. These bogus products do little to insulate your car and cost insanely high prices. In comparison to conventional damping sheets coated with bitumen, NoiseBlock BY-BDS 10 offers improved density and better results together with the advantages of having fire and mould resistance properties. With the improved composition, NoiseBlock BY-BDS 10 has effective adhesion properties and thus can be applied on any metal surfaces of vehicles to reduce or remove vibration related issues. Besides reducing vibration and noise, NoiseBlock BY-BDS 10 also improves acoustic performance by increasing decay rate. Decay rate is the speed in dB/second at which the vibration reduces after panel excitation has ceased. The application lead-time is only three hours with a lifespan of two years. NoiseBlock BY-BDS 10 also comes with a six-month warranty. The NoiseBlock BY-BDS 10 is available for sale at only $45 per piece. Each piece measures at 1,000mm x 500mm and is 10mm thick. Full installation prices range from $680 to $860 for a small to medium-sized sedan. Why NoiseStop Systems Singapore? NoiseStop Systems Singapore boasts an extensive portfolio to its name. Having worked on major projects such as the Universal Studios Singapore as well as the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix, NoiseStop Systems Singapore is the brand to trust. 19. Volkswagen is celebrating a million sales of the Scirocco with the launch of a Scirocco Million Edition. The figure takes into account the sales of the first two generations of Scirocco that were sold between 1974 and 1992. On the outside, the Scirocco Million is painted in exclusive 'Deep Black' metallic paint with two prominent decorative stripes, one on the bonnet and the other on the boot. It also comes with painted wing mirrors and 18-inch 'Interlagos' alloy wheels. The R-Line bodykit completes the exterior updates. The interior is fitted with standard black leather upholstery with contrasting orange stitching that is also found on the gear knob and handbrake. Stainless steel pedals and special Million-badged scuff plates round up the cosmetic upgrades. Under the hood, five engine options are available. The 1.4-litre TSI petrol have outputs of 122bhp or 160bhp while the 2.0-litre TSI produces 210bhp. The 2.0-litre TDI develops 140bhp or 177bhp. The Scirocco Million Edition will go into production in the later part of May 2013 and sadly to say, it will only be offered in China and hometown Germany. First Generation Second Generation
  20. Volkswagen is extending the appeal of the new seventh-generation Golf with three new R-Line packages designed by Volkswagen R GmbH. The 'Exterior' package emphasises the striking appearance of the Golf and complements it with a rear spoiler finished in body colour, fog lights, R-Line logo on the special glossy black radiator grille, special bumpers, flared sills and sporty black painted diffuser. The package is available with the Highline trim for the price of
  21. The sports coupe to succeed the 350Z from the Japanese automaker Nissan, the 370Z, was officially unveiled for the European market back in 2012, during the Paris Motor Show. However, the model has now made it into the spotlight, again, with Nissan announcing an imminent launch of a facelifted version of the 370Z in China. Like its predecessor, the Nissan 370Z facelift maintains its sporty look. In fact, it looks a bit sportier and more luxurious now with a new front bumper, revised front end, and also a pair of vertical LED daytime running lights, the latter being the trend in the present day automotive market. However, expect no increase or decrease when it comes to performance as Nissan will not make any alteration to the engine. That said, the Nissan 370Z maintains a 3.7-litre V6 engine capable of spitting out 324bhp of total power output. Thanks to this engine, the car is able to go from a complete standstill to a speed of 100km/h in no more than five and a half seconds. For the facelift, Nissan is offering two new colours - Midnight Blue and Magma Red. Personally, I would choose the Magma Red over other colours as I think the car looks stunningly wonderful in it. Of course, apart from the colours, you also get to choose whether you want to drive in a coupe or to feel the air blowing on your hair. For the coupe version of the Nissan 370Z facelift, you'll have to pay 608,000 Chinese yuan (S$121,000). As for the roadster version, you'll have to spend a total of 668,000 Chinese yuan (S$134,000). Of course, you can only get the car at those prices in China, at least for now.
  22. Infiniti launched the long wheelbase version of the Q50 saloon at the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show. The Q50 is a class competitor against the likes of the BMW 3 Series. For readers' information, BMW showcased its Chinese market only BMW 3 Series long wheelbase saloon at the Beijing Motor Show last year. The Infiniti Q50 saloon will be built alongside with the QX50 crossover at the Nissan-Dongfeng plant in Xiangyang, Hubei Provence. "We are expanding our product portfolio with two new models especially for the Chinese market in 2014, and plans are underway to significantly increase the dealer network from the current 60 dealers to 80 in 2014," said Infiniti President, Johan de Nysschen. At the Shanghai Motor Show, two variants of the Q50 were displayed
  23. The swoopy Kia Optima K5 has just undergone a facelift for the 2013 model year. For this blog post, I've compiled a set of before and after photos for the readers to make their own comparison. As the saying goes, 'a picture is worth a thousand words'. Before After Before After Before After The most obvious cosmetic update is done at the taillight combination. Personally, I prefer the current model's taillight as it is more sleek. The face lifted version reminds me of an Optima which did not have a good night sleep. On the inside, the 2013 Optima gets a sportier steering wheel and a new gear stick.
