  1. [extract] Ever since the release of the Subaru BRZ, many have been hankering over an STI version. Many felt that it just does not feel right for Subaru to have a performance model that
  2. [extract] Unveiled at the 2012 Lipezig Motor Show in June, the Scirocco GTS is now available for sale across Europe, with the price in Germany ranging from
  3. [extract] Toyota Racing Development (TRD) has released a body kit for the facelifted Lexus LS 460 sedan in Japan. The upgrades over the standard model include a diffuser, front splitter, side skirts, forged aluminum wheels, and sport mufflers. The top-of-the-range Lexus LS saloon is a stately and comfortable luxury sedan. The question is
  4. The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show is considered to be the premier automotive specialty products trade event in the world and it is usually held every November at the Las Vegas Convention Centre. Many companies dealing with automotive related products will bring their wares to the show and this year, Ford will showcase five 2013 Focus ST concepts for the above mentioned event. Cars displayed during SEMA events are known to be rather
  5. The first images for the facelifted Gallardo Spyder are here, and it wears the similar trigonometry inspired face which does not fit well for the Spyder. Though personally I feel that the extremely sharp styling does not work as well as it did with the coupe. Maybe it's the colour or the camera angles, but perhaps its looks better in the flesh. Besides the folding soft top, the Spyder is essentially similar to its coupe sibling, which was revealed at the recently concluded Paris Motor Show. It wears a new set of two-tone 19-inch Apollo polished alloys and feature bigger air intakes ahead of the front rims. Like in the coupe the powertrain air outlet area is wider for improved thermodynamic efficiency. What do you guys think? Am I too harsh on the looks or do you think it will grow on us?
  6. Tuning company Carlex Design has decided to give the MINI Countryman a little steampunk makeover. Wait steam who? Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction characterized by a setting in which steam power predominates as the energy source for industrial technologies. A good example will be the movie Wild Wild West. The Poland based company coated the crossover in a hardened matte black with bright copper detailing on areas like the roof, wheels and other places. If you thought the outside looks 'normal', wait till you get in. The center console and dashboard have been retrimmed in brass, copper and brown leather. The copper theme continus on over to the hazelwood-rimmed steering wheel. There also seems to be an antique 19th century clock fitted in place of an airbag. It took nine months to complete the project.
  7. Toyota recently showcased a TRD version of the Toyota 86 at the Paris Motor Show. Toyota added a slew of TRD accessories on it which consists of items such as rear diffusers, larger sports wheels, adjustable suspension system and etc. Looks like owners or future buyers of the Toyota 86 will be spoilt for choices. But what about the owners or future buyers of the Subaru BRZ? Are they going to be stuck with the stock look or wait for aftermarket parts from third party manufacturers? Actually, they do not have to wait long because Subaru has come up with a concept for the BRZ. Known as the Subaru BRZ XT Line Concept, the Japanese automaker has given the already good-looking BRZ a more custom look. Rumour has it that the BRZ XT Line Concept could introduce a line of accessories or parts for the BRZ and also it could be the beginning of a forced-induced version of the car. The designation XT may sound familiar to some and that is because Subaru has used it before to name a certain model. The Subaru XT (known as the Subaru Alcyone in its home market) was a two door sports car that was available during the mid 1980s and up to the early 1990s. And the XT tag was also used on the Subaru Forester (second generation onwards) to denote the turbocharged versions. Details of the concept car was not given out but lets use the images as a guide to see what Subaru has added or changed. Firstly, the most obvious additions to the car are the carbon fibre parts (or just a carbon fibre wrap) of the side mirror, roof panel and rear spoiler. The blacked-out look extends to the eleven-spoke sports wheels. Bright red brake callipers (with a Subaru wording on it) are situated on all four corners of the car and they give the car some contrast in colour. XT Line badges are added to the fender vents, C-pillars, wheel caps and also on the left side of the front bumper. Inside the concept, the seats are wrapped in leather and given the same bright red colour of the brake callipers. An XT logo is stitched on both front seats. Carbon fibre trimmings are added to the top part of the gauge cluster and on the door panels as well. As mentioned above, Subaru did not say much about the BRZ XT Line Concept. Hopefully, more details of it will be released later in the future. While we may crave for a turbocharged BRZ, we probably have to wait a little longer for one. In the meantime, we can only enjoy these images. Photo credit: copyright of Drew Phillips / AOL
  8. [extract] Lamborghini has made their latest bull, the Aventador, more environmentally friendly by incorporating start/stop function and cylinder deactivation technology into the 2013 MY LP 700-4. Hence, the revised Aventador is akin to a plate of Char Kway Teow prepared with healthier oil
  9. Nissan has released the official pictures of the face-lifted 370Z sports car, which will go on sale across Europe after making its debut at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. As evident from the images, the makeover is rather minimal that features a redesigned bumper at the front with a couple of vertical LED DRLs. Along with the facelift, the coupe will be available with two new colors, namely Midnight Blue and Magma Red. It will also get a set of new 18 or 19-inch alloy rims with red brake calipers. The interior remains literally unchanged, apart from an upgraded Bose sound system which gets new speakers and subwoofer. Nissan has decided to keep the chassis and engine of the face-lifted model untouched. This means that the car is still powered by the 324 bhp 3.7-litre V6 unit that brings the car from 0 to 100km/h in 5.5 seconds. With a base price of around 30,000 Euro (S$47,629), the Nissan 370Z is considered to be relatively cheap. It certainly is, especially from a Singaporean
  10. At the upcoming Paris Motor Show, Peugeot will introduce a car that will be based on the 208 hatchback and that car will be known as the 208 Type R5 rally car. It is the direct successor to the Peugeot 207 Super 2000 rally car that has won numerous rally titles especially in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge. Specially built for tarmac and also loose-surfaces (e.g. gravel), the 208 Type R5 will go on sale in the second half of 2013. And at the same time, the car will also compete in its first rallies in order to capture the national and international rally championships for the following season. Much of the technology for the 208 Type R5 comes from the expertise and experience of Peugeot
  11. While Borneo Motors have been retailing TRD performance parts for its Toyota range since June, Toyota will hold a premiere during the Paris motor show at the end of the month for the European release. TRD, an acronym for Toyota Racing Development, has been developing tuning parts for Toyota automobiles in Japan for more than 50 years, and soon will be available throughout Europe for the first time. In Paris, a GT86 (as its called there) fitted with select parts will highlight the exterior, interior and mechanical components that are available. The TRD parts will not be grouped into packages will be sold individually. On the outside, the TRD range spans a number of aero parts such as a front spoiler, side skirts, a rear trunk and under spoiler. They can be finished in either white and partial black, all black, or an unpainted, primer finish. Other available options are a metallic silver fuel filler cap, a stainless steel rear diffuser set and a choice of two, TRD 18-inch alloy wheels. Inside, TRD offers a center console-mounted button ignition, and a leather trimmed gear knob. Performance upgrades includes full-length ride adjustment shock absorber and spring suspension set among others. Braking can also be improved with a Monoblock Brake Kit that
  12. Rumour has it that Volkswagen is preparing a performance version of the all new Beetle. But before Volkswagen releases such a vehicle, the German automaker is giving us a glimpse of what the future might have in store by offering us the Volkswagen Beetle R-Line. The Volkswagen Beetle R-Line model is available in two different packages; an exterior package and an interior package. The exterior package may be ordered separately, while the interior package is always offered as an extension of the R-Line exterior details. The exterior package includes front bumpers with independent black grained air inlets and chrome surrounds for the directional indicators, a rear diffuser, special body side panels and door mirror housings in body colour, R-Line logos on the front body beneath the A-pillars and 18 inch "Twister" alloy wheels. The R-Line interior package includes sport seat system with seats upholstered with an active-breathing fabric in "Kyalami" design, front head restraints with R-Line badge, leather trimmed sport steering wheel, the gear shift lever boot and the handbrake grip with decorative seams in "Art Grey" and decorative inlays in "Dark Vanadium.
  13. Lamborghini Reventon themed PC case blends geekiness and car enthusiasm into one awesome piece of technical art. Inspired by the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor (Starscream from Transformers, for our younger readers), the Reventon is a 20 piece limited model based on the now outdated Murcielago LP640 (Still as impressive and good looking as the Aventador though). The fastest speed achieved was in Dubai,UAE at 356km/h and it is the most expensive Lamborghini to date at $2 million. The PC might not be as quick and might cost only a minor fraction of the car, but it is equally good looking. Based on the Silverstone Raven RV01 PC Case, the sleek and aerodynaminc lines of the Reventon are effortlessly lifted over to the PC including the missile/arrow shaped tail lights. The initial design was tested on Adobe Photoshop before the modder, Paul Tan, set out on the project. The initial step was to paint the whole case in Auto Acrylic paint (casting iron colour) with UV protection. Nearly every corner and component including the RAM, GPU, motherboard and mouse pad are decked in Lamborghini branding and the special Reventon colour. The ATI Radeon 5870 graphics processor was laser cut and bent give it that signature Lamborghini feel. Given the quality of effort and vision, perhaps Paul Tan and Asus should collaborate for the next Lamborghini branded laptop or ultrabook? Pic Source: DamnGeeky

  15. Slightly over two years after it went on sale in May 2010, Peugeot has released the initial details on the 2013 RCZ Coupe. The French automaker will show case the facelift model alongside with the 2008 CUV and Onyx concepts at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. The 4.3m refreshed RCZ has a new fascia that sports a smaller grille with a redesigned front bumper that hosts Daylight Running LEDs. The head lamps have been modified as well. Engine options remain more or less similar to the pre-facelift model. Petrol option includes the 1.6-litre THP with 156bhp and is available with a choice of 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. A more powerful 1.6-litre THP with 200bhp is mated solely to a 6-speed manual gearbox. A diesel-powered 163bhp 2.0-litre HDi is also on the buying list. From the images, Peugeot has removed the background on the brand
  16. Tuning World Bedensee has just unveiled its 2013 calendar, featuring the winner of the tenth annual Miss Tuning beauty pageant, Frizzi Arnold. The photo shoot took place in Helsinki, the Finish capital. "The photo locations in Scandinavia were great and were dressed up with great effort. Everything was there: From an ice-cold igloo hotel to playing with fire. I had a lot of fun and I'm glad that we got some great pictures." said Arnold. Director of the photo shoot is celebrity photographer, Max Steam. He was also responsible for choreographing the 2011 Miss Tuning calendar. 17. [extract] Photos of a Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano with an interesting interior colour scheme have surfaced on the world wide web. It was originally posted by a Reddit user and the photos have spread to other sites as well. All sorts of comments were made about the Ferrari
  18. German tuners TC Concepts have laid their hands on the well received 458 Italia. The project has been dubbed 'General Consul' for unknown reasons. The latest tuning company to play with the 458 Italia, the General Consul kit starts with a Novitec body kit adding a front and rear spoiler, side skirts, front fender vents among other extras. The Novitec kit also increases the output to 609bhp. TC Concepts has basically darkened out the rear lamps and colour-keyed he prancing horse emblems. The car is mainly finished in a bumblebee friendly yellow and black which also continues in the cabin. Throw in a couple of ComfortDelgro logos and it will blend in well with the local cab population. The extended carbon front flaps looks like the 458 has been given a thin moustache and from reminds me of the Joker's scars from The Dark Knight. Like the 'yellow ring' they have added to the rims and the black as night emblem on a yellow background just looks sinister. Looks like a car fit for the Yellow Lanterns then. They are after all fuelled by fear.
  19. [extract] The BMW 3 series is a remarkable and highly successful car line that dates back to the legendary BMW 2002. While the current F-30 3 series, in its sixth generation, looks largely different to the 2002 or the E21 3 series, a tuning company in Hungary decided to pay homage to the E30, which celebrates its 30th birthday this year. TMCars design have conceived a body kit that could modernize any existing E30 stock car that is stylish enough for the
  20. Mazda UK used an MX-5 for competition in the Avon Tyres British GT Championship and the MX-5 takes on established GT cars from Lotus and Aston Martin. A race at Brands Hatch in the month of June brought the first podium finish (third place) for the team and in August, the team won second place in another race. Following the success of the Mazda MX-5 GT4 race car in the Avon Tyres British GT Championship, Mazda UK and Jota Sport will be building customer MX-5 GT4 race cars to order for use in the 2013 season. The Mazda MX-5 GT4 is built by Jota Sport costs around
  21. Car owners carrying out illegal modifications are on the rise. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said there's been an almost 30 per cent jump in the number from 2011. Between January and April this year, the number of summons issued by LTA averages at 784 each month, compared to a monthly average of 611 last year. Some of the most common illegal vehicle modifications are tinted windows and lighting infringements. Drivers who modify their cars call it their "interest" and "passion". There is even a car show and competition just to flaunt the many flashy modifications. But such a hobby does not come cheap as it can amount to tens of thousands of dollars. Experts Channel NewsAsia spoke to said these modifications done illegally can be dangerous. The probability of an illegally modified car going up in flames after encountering an impact has a 70 per cent higher risk relative to cars that did not undergo any illegal modifications. Also, the illegal modifications can cause damage to the car in the long run. Owner of Hanip Automobiles, Hanip Abdul, said: "You (the car) lose a lot of power; there're a lot of unburnt gas coming out from (the car's) gaspipe. There're a lot of things happening to your car. Eventually you see that your car (has) no power, outside concession very high. These are (what) they call wrong illegal modifications." He further added that it is not advisable to carry out any illegal modifications as every car has been designed to its optimum condition. Nevertheless, not all modifications are illegal. Motorists who wish to modify their vehicles are advised to check with the LTA or look up the guidelines. For first-time offenders who illegally modify their vehicles, they face a fine of up to S$1,000, or a jail term of up to three months. Repeat offenders will face a fine of up to S$2,000, or a jail term of up to six months. The LTA will also take actions against workshops found to be facilitating illegal modifications. Such workshops will face a fine of up to S$2,000, or a jail term of up to three months, for the first offence; and a fine of up to S$5,000, or a jail term of up to six months for repeat offences. 22. The new Continental GT Speed is the fastest road-car to exit Bentley's factory in Crewe, U.K. and if you have the cash, place your orders with deliveries expected to start from October 2012. Bentley has released the full technical details for its new performance flagship, the Continental GT Speed that reaches a top speed of 330 km/h with power sent to all four wheels (60:40; rear biased). It will debut at the upcoming Moscow Motor Show on the 29th August. Pretty apt location for a luxury car. The GT Speed is powered by a monstrous 6.0-litre twin-turbo W12, developing 616bhp and 800Nm of torque. All the power is mated to a new ZF eight-speed close-ratio automatic transmission featuring

  24. Are you a new millionaire, a drug dealer, part of the mafia or someone who turned into an instant VIP thanks to a video you uploaded on youTube? Well it is time to get an armored car then if you value your life. Sure you will have bodyguards and all but they are good till you are outside the car, not in. Obviously this is for people whom are not residing in Singapore, because I mean, seriously.. how threatened do you feel here? Armoured cars are like vast, heavy tanks with wheels that can be driven with anyone who holds a class 3 license. They are certified to stop anything from poisoned gas to IEDs. The idea of armoured cars are simple. It's basically a normal car fitted with lots of Kevlar, titanium , thick glass, run flat tyres and stuff. Having said that do not make your own because there are established luxury automakers whom are more than capable. So lets start shall we? The Audi A8 L Security can hit 100km/h in 7s thanks to its 6.3-litre W12 engine that produces 500bhp and 624Nm of torque. The car can withstand shots from high-powered rifles and blasts from IEDs and hand grenades. The cabin can pump fresh air during the event of a chemical attack and a button has been installed to make it easier to knock out the heavily armored doors. Most armored cars are subtle but this $8 million Rolls-Royce Phantom EWB is unlike most armored cars. It can withstand blasts from grenades and bullets from AK-47s despite being covered in 120kg worth of gold. Want something a little British? How about the Jaguar XJ Sentinel, besides Land Rovers are mainly used by Mafia's anyway, we need class right? It can withstand a blast from up to 14kg of TNT in addition to offering protection from assault rifles and machine guns. Performance wise the 3.2tonne leaping cat is powered by a 385bhp 5.0-litre V8 that hits 100km/h in under 10 seconds. RENNtech decided to tune the Mercedes-Benz S600 Guard to make it easier to escape from danger. The ECU was redone; a carbon fiber airbox was added and the intercooler pump was substantially strengthened. All told the S600 Guard now has 640bhp, up from 517bhp, and 1049Nm of torque. The Maybach 62 Guard is a massive luxury sedan has been beefed up by an additional 408kg worth of steel and Kevlar reinforcements. Despite the heft, the Maybach's twin-turbo V12 can still hit 100km/h in 5.7 seconds before maxing out to an electronically limited top speed of 249km/h. Picture Credit: CarBuzz
  25. Just when you thought how Ford manage to squeeze 123bhp out of the tiny 3-cylinder 1.0-litre Ecoboost engine, Superchips, a British company specialising in electronic engine tuning, upped the ante. Through an engine control unit (ECU) upgrade, the UK firm managed to boost the output of the engine to 145bhp at 6,169 rpm and 227Nm of torque at 2,656 rpm. This is done by rewriting the ignition, fuelling and boost control parameters of the Bosch MED17 engine management found in 1.0L turbocharged Focus. The British tuning firm claims that the remap will not cause the fuel consumption figure to fall below that of the standard 123bhp Focus as long as the car is driven in a
