The incident shows the dangers of giving alcohol to a baby, even in tiny amounts. According to an article on Sin Chew Daily on 12 July 2019, the incident happened in Beijing, China. Many friends and relatives had turned up at the baby's full month celebration, which is traditionally held to bless the child and celebrate the arrival of a new member of the family. The child's paternal grandfather was apparently carrying him when he proposed a toast to his relatives. Things took a rather weird turn when one of the relatives joked that the grandfather couldn't drink if the baby didn't drink. The grandfather fell for the taunt, he grabbed a cup of alcohol and gave the baby a sip, to "save his face". When the child's mother got to know what had happened, she was furious. She grabbed her baby back into her arms. But the damage had been done. The baby became breathless after just 30 minutes. He was rushed to the hospital, but hospital staff were unable to save the little one. Doctors found out that, the cause of the child's death was alcohol poisoning. "Babies cannot drink alcohol, how can you treat a child's life as if it's a joke?" they asked the grandfather. It has been reported that the baby's heartbroken mum was unable to believe what had happened, and she slapped her father-in-law multiple times. Apparently, the mum had been ill-treated by her in-laws previously, because she was unable to conceive even after 3 years of marriage. Things got better only after she was blessed with a baby boy. Fate though had other plans. According to a report by Dr Taylor McCormick (Department of Emergency Medicine, Los Angeles County & University of Southern California Medical Center), babies appear to metabolise alcohol faster than adults. Alcohol affects the central nervous system. Children's bodies absorb alcohol quickly, and this can occur in less than 30 minutes. Symptoms of alcohol poisoning in babies can include difficulty breathing, reduced activity, and seizures. Some studies have also found a risk for low blood sugar. The long-term effects on the baby are unclear. However, breathing difficulties could deprive the baby's brain of oxygen, possibly causing brain damage. In the case of breastfeeding mothers, the CDC recommends that not drinking alcohol is the safest option. Generally, moderate alcohol consumption by a breastfeeding mother (up to 1 standard drink per day) is not known to be harmful to the infant. However, the mother should wait for at least 2 hours after a single drink before breastfeeding her baby. Breast milk will contain alcohol as long as alcohol is still in the mother's bloodstream. Alcohol levels are usually highest in breast milk 30-60 minutes after alcohol is consumed. The length of time alcohol can be detected in breast milk will increase the more alcohol a mother consumes. For example, alcohol from 1 drink can be detected in breast milk for about 2-3 hours, alcohol from 2 drinks can be detected for about 4-5 hours, and alcohol from 3 drinks can be detected for about 6-8 hours, and so on. Exposure to alcohol above moderate levels through breast milk can damage an infant's development, growth, and sleep patterns. High alcohol consumption can also impair a mother's judgment and ability to safely care for her child. Over time, excessive alcohol consumption can also lead to decreased milk production. This hit and run Incident happened on 02/10/2018 at 9.30AM at parking lot. I parked my vehicle at parking lot. At 11.30AM I went to my vehicle and noticed there were scratches and dent, my vehicle was hit by another vehicle. I requested from the company near parking lot to view security camera and noticed this Sliver Van when he reversed his van to park at lot beside mine and he hit my vehicle. Despite he felt impact and came down to take a look. He left without leaving contact or details. I have the video and photo of this incident. I proceed to make a accident report online, and went down to Mazda to make accident report. After showing them the video which I saved the Mazda Claim executive said the evidence it wasn't strong. At 3pm the security guard saw the Van driver drove back his van and gave him my number asked him to call me back. The van driver called me as I answer he said with laughter and said he didn't know he bang my vehicle despite the video clearly shown he came down to look in front and behind of the vehicle and pick his colleague, drove off. He said he want a private settle which I disagree, I questioned how can he not know he bang my car when the video shown. Some more my car is less than 3 month old. I must report which he said ok. After that the claim executive asked me to request his vehicle insurance, I sms but he didn't reply. I called him and ask for his cooperation he had the guts to raise his voice at me "you wan report you report lah, ask for my details for what. My vehicle also no scratch. Don't know you report for what." I told him he bang my car till my car paint chipped off he still can say? At that point I was furious but did not want to argue anymore. According to the claim executive he said this 3rd party claim case is based on case by case basis and can drag for years plus my evidence is not strong, last resort will have to self claim. I'm not looking for sympathy or online shaming this farker but rather need people advise on this kind of situation how do you handle, thanks. The hit and run damage left on my vehicle -

was involved in an car accident, and i am not at fault. aka, people bang me from the back. What should i do as my car is due for scrap 1 month+ away. is there still anything i can claim? workshop says may not be able to claim repair cuz of COE expiring soon, insurance may not pay out. anything i can claim from the third party? possible to claim car down time? -
SINGAPORE — SBS Transit bus captains who are Singaporeans or permanent residents (PRs) will be able to earn about S$3,460 a month under a new salary package, about 15 per cent more than before, the public transport operator and National Transport Workers’ Union (NTWU) announced on Thursday (June 1). Under the new salary scheme, new Singaporean and PR bus captains will start with a monthly basic salary of S$1,950, higher than the current S$1,775. Together with a new reliability incentive, overtime and other perks, the drivers can hit a gross monthly salary of about S$3,460. Male drivers will have two weeks of paternity leave and all drivers will get free travel on all trains and basic bus services, free annual health screening and S$500 of flexi-benefits. SBS Transit’s revised salary package will benefit close to 10,000 employees, of whom 6,500 are bus captains. The company hopes to attract more Singaporeans and permanent residents. NTWU executive secretary Melvin Yong said the revised employment terms are timely and sets a good example in the fast-growing industry, which on Sunday saw the new bus contracting model begin operations. Under the new model, the Government pays fees to bus operators operate bus services, while it retains the fare revenue and owns the buses, depots and fleet management system. A monthly average of 28 vehicle owners have been fined since 2010 for headlamp non-compliance. This number includes the unauthorised installation of High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps. Minister for Transport Lui Tuck Yew revealed this in a written reply to Member of Parliament (MP) for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC Zainal Sapari. Citing records from the Traffic Police, Mr Lui added there have been no accidents caused by drivers dazzled by light from other vehicles since 2005. HID headlamps can improve the visibility of drivers compared with standard halogen lamps. Since January 1, 2010, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) made it compulsory for all newly-registered vehicles with HID headlamps to be equipped with an auto-levelling feature. LTA said the feature helps reduce glare to drivers of oncoming vehicles without compromising the improved visibility the headlamps offer to drivers. Mr Lui said LTA enforcement officers look out for vehicles fitted with very bright headlamps that do not comply with its requirements. Owners of non-complying vehicles face a maximum penalty of S$1,000 fine and three months' jail. For subsequent offenders, they face up to S$2,000 fine and six months' jail. Lower-wage officers will get an AVC of at least S$1,000, signalling the government's continued commitment to help low-wage workers. The Public Service Division in the Prime Minister's Office announced the bonus in a statement on Thursday. The statement said the bonus amount was decided against the backdrop of a "more subdued global economic outlook". It said: "Singapore's economic growth is expected to remain subdued for the rest of 2012, with the economy expected to grow by around 1.5%. "The electronics manufacturing cluster would continue to be weighed down by tepid external demand. On the other hand, expansion in the construction sector could provide modest growth support to the overall economy. "In addition, growth may be slightly lower than forecast if the weakness in the externally-oriented sectors persists into the final quarter of 2012." The year-end AVC payment was decided in consultation with the unions. Some 2,000 civil servants earning less than S$1,430 will benefit from the minimum AVC payment of S$1,000. For example, an officer drawing a monthly salary of S$1,200 will get a year-end AVC of S$1,000, instead of S$840 based on 0.7 month of his salary. About 96% of these 2,000 civil servants are Division IV officers. All civil servants will also get the Non-Pensionable Annual Allowance (NPAA) of one month, to be paid in December along with the AVC. - CNA/ir -

Baby having man yue celebration next month. My flat not ready and our parents' place not big enough to host everybody in 1 sitting. No immediate family staying in condo as well. As such, I'm looking for a function room to host a man yue gathering with lunch buffet catering. Maybe up to 50-60pax. Any MCFers have any good suggestions other than hotels, SAFRA? Ideally i would like something not too far from a MRT station so that the elders will have an easier time finding the place. I've done some googling but anyone had any good experiences to share? If it's not very worth it (cost of room rental + lunch buffet), may just go for chinese restaurant dimsum lunch or something.

i noticed quite a fair bit of bros here are JB regulars including myself.. otherwise my observations from the onemotoring camera cant be wrong .. alwalys packed and jammed each weekend. I like to see how much are we contributing to the JB economy .. cus everytime i go will spend at least RM 200-300 depending on my purpose eg top up fuel , groceries, servicing car and makan etc.. On average i spend around RM$ 800-1000 per mth in Msia. A show of hands who spend monthly and on what? 1) < RM$1K 2) RM1-2K 3) > RM$2K
