    When things turn ugly

The new F12berlinetta is provocative. The sensual styling will likely appeal and tempt those who are into wheeled art. Not to mention by bearing the highly praised badge on its bonnet, it must be good. Then, things could have been very different. Mansory, a luxury car modification firm based in Brand, Germany, showcased its take on the F12 at the recent Frankfurt Motor Show. Called the 'La Revoluzione', the GT has now been cloaked in maroon carbon fibre, which looks highly exotic, but less pleasing to our eyes. We reckon the firm could have been more creative with the moniker too (likely to have been inspired by Ferrari's halo car - LaFerrari). It seems to be a case of 'too many cooks spoil the soup'. In our humble opinion, the people at Maranello did a good job with the F12. But Mansory - not so. Other than the unique carbon fibre body, we thought the fixed wing broke the svelte, graceful silhouette of the stock car. From the front, it seems that Mansory has eradicated the clever active cooling duct for the brakes. Gone too are the aero bridges behind the front wheel arches. The fixed wing looks fine from this angle, though, and if there's one thing Mansory did right to the aesthetics, we reckon it would be the exhaust tips. The German tuner has upped figures from the 6.3-litre V12 to above 1,200bhp, which enables the La Revoluzione to complete the century sprint in 2.9 seconds - down from 3.1 in the stock car. Before we end this post, we thought we should remind you of how gorgeous the original car was.
  2. Just saw from sgcarmart and checked their online price list, it seems that they slashed the price for all the HONDA models even though COE is going up. How come? think it's hard to be true? Some other sales strategy? Last time their list price much higher but they will give discount like >10K when you buy. At this new price, they still giving discount or that's it and no more discount? Any bros went their showroom recently and what is the real price now? Same as their price in sgcarmart or even lower?
  3. After a virtual boycott by several manufacturers of its 2009 event, the Tokyo Motor Show will return in 2011. The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association has decided that the show will begin on December 2nd, instead of its usual October start date. Media will be invited for advanced previews from November 30. That takes the Japanese showcase away from the Frankfurt Motor Show, and nestles it in between the Greater Los Angeles Auto Show and the North American International Auto Show. The relaunched show will take place at the Tokyo International Exhibition Center, also known as Tokyo Big Sight, a facility with 72290 m2 of exhibition space. From 1989, the show had been held at the much larger Makuhari Messe based in Chiba. That facility is nearly three times as large as the new location. Aside from the typical showcase and demonstration of the latest vehicles, the show may put increased emphasis on transportation in future societies. Other exhibitions could include talks and demos from coachbuilders, energy researchers, information and communication technology professionals and urban planners. Source : Worldcarfans
  4. Yo all bro expert in car insurance. My car insurance is due soon and would like to get some quote directly from the companies myself. (This way is cheaper then from an agent?) 5. MOTOR companies are coming up with innovative ways to entice car buyers put off by the recent cooling measures. These range from a leasing deal that allows customers to drive away with a new Mercedes-Benz E200 with no downpayment to a buyback scheme that lets them own a Porsche Panamera for just $788 a month. The arrangements are offered mainly by companies selling premium and luxury brands, as these are the ones most affected by the cooling measures. In February, the Government restricted most car loans to 60 per cent of the purchase price - compared with up to 100 per cent previously - and imposed a tiered taxation system placing the heaviest burden on luxury vehicles. 13. Now he also chup motor insurance liao? Anyway a good reminder article nonetheless Just doubt the relevant folks would listen... From ST Forum: http://www.straitstimes.com/premium/forum-...claims-20121113 Motor insurers should tackle root causes of inflated claims Published on Nov 13, 2012 ACCORDING to the General Insurance Association of Singapore, regulations introduced in May last year require motorists making property damage claims to give other motorists or their insurers the opportunity to inspect the damage to the vehicles before repairs are undertaken ("Pre-repair inspection rule for accident vehicles"; last Friday). The association should state the percentage of third-party claims that follow this regulation. Anecdotal evidence indicates that payments for third-party damages continue to be high, contributing to hefty motor insurance premiums. Also, are a significant proportion of these claims made through lawyers, and do their fees add to the cost of the claims? Perhaps the insurer paying the claim should also be given the opportunity to settle it without the need to incur legal fees. The requirement to report directly to the paying insurer should be made mandatory by law, rather than being a non-binding regulation by the insurance industry. This will be more effective in addressing the exorbitant cost of third-party claims. In my consulting work in the region, I know that the cost of motor repairs in Singapore is several times that in neighbouring countries. While this can be partly explained by the higher cost of doing business here, the scale of the difference indicates that there are other contributing factors. The motor insurance industry should address the root causes of inflated claims and bring relief to consumers, who now continue to suffer increases in premiums. Tan Kin Lian President Financial Services Consumer Association
  14. From the good doctor's description, it seemed like the other driver/owner was the victim as his vehicle's damage was "scratches to right back tyre ream and door". If that was the case why would the other driver wanted to claim his own insurance le? I guess Dr Lee might have mistaken and it would be good if the other driver could respond because his honesty/integrity had been doubted liao... From ST Forum: http://www.straitstimes.com/premium/forum-...claims-20121105 'Blank cheque' motor claims' Published on Nov 05, 2012 I AM a mother of two with 12 years of driving experience and no prior accident history or claims experience. On Oct 23, I had my first car accident at the junction of Balmoral Road and Dunearn Road while I was driving my husband to work. After the other driver and I exchanged the relevant details and snapped pictures related to the accident, it was agreed, or so I thought, that we would each claim the cost of the repairs from our own car insurance. I paid $1,400 for my own repairs, after much deliberation, to avoid claiming from my insurance. Subsequently, I received a letter from my insurer informing me about the other car driver's application to claim the cost of his repairs from my insurance. His repairs for the scratches to his right back tyre ream and door cost $3,500, which was double what I paid to repair the damage to my car. Are there any regulatory bodies guarding consumer rights when a car owner uses these workshops? It seems to me that they may quote high prices when they know the owner is likely to claim from the other party's insurer. Are there cameras at every traffic junction that can provide useful evidence for the claims process? How do we go about obtaining such evidence? Mandy Lee (Dr)

  17. Post Ma Chi: more affordable motor insurance moving forward? You could thus read that again: "(g) any wilful act and/or wilful negligence of yourself or that of your Authorised driver." Thus, the ordinary 1st party insurance policies are NOT meant as coverage for accidents due to speeding, DUI, reckless/ careless driving, accidents caused by shooting red lights etc etc. Perhaps the government could impose a more fluid tax upon insurers such that any amounts in excess of 20 percent earnings (profits) from motor insurance premiums over an up to 3 yrs declaration period should be taxed at 100% annually (tax free for profits below 20%)- and limits upon the management fees for the insurance scheme from exceeding 20% of premiums collected- thus the care by motor insurance companies across the board to ensure minimal unnecessary overhead costs, insured drivers remain careful and that premiums are kept to minimum so as to remain competitive, since drivers too would be able to insurance shop for the lowest rates. Drivers too will drive less recklessly as they know insurance companies to be careful about every cent paid out. Motor insurance being a 'public good' and compulsory by legislation, ought be run on a 'not-for-profit' basis. Likewise, motor insurance SHOULD not promote the dangerous use of cars as private entertainment/ racing machines that illicitly abuse public roads as personal F1-racetracks/ playgrounds. PS: 'Taxes' imposed upon motor insurance companies for profits in excess of 20% of premiums p.a. should be paid to a fund that subsidizes the care, welfare/ employment etc of hit and run victims wherein no insurer can be identified to compensate for such incidents (i.e. not to accrue as profits/ dividends to insurance co. shareholders). The 20% p.a. profit cap/ management fee cap figure is just a suggestion for consideration, it may be adjusted accordingly as necessary. The regulation suggested here to reduce motor insurance premiums is necessary due to the fact that motor insurance, according to the 'Motor Vehicles (Third-Party Risks and Compensation) Act (CHAPTER 189)' is compulsory; I am however, NOT advocating such regulations for other forms of life/ healthcare/ hospitalization etc insurance insofar that such insurance, unlike motor insurance in Singapore, are not legal necessities.
  18. Hi all, will be doing the above servicing next week after getting my 2nd hand Swift. It's out of warranty though and i would prefer to send it to AD as i don't have a trusted workshop. Anyone has any experiences to share when you sent your car there for servicing? Like did they a good job and check every detail thoroughly? I'll be taking Menu C i think, $378 for Synthetic Oil. Are they persuasive in the sense that they will push you to change the parts which are still in good/okay condition? I might probably get duped if that's the case as i do not really have much mechanical knowledge. Also i discover the audio CD player can't eject the disc i inserted in. Can i get this repaired there as well? How much do u guys estimate this cost to be? Pls help. Thanks
  19. LONDON: Following almost a year of tough negotiations, Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone insisted on Monday that his Formula One Management (FOM) company had agreed terms with organisers to stage the Singapore Grand Prix for another five years after the current contract expires in September. Mr Ecclestone's remarks - made in an exclusive interview with TODAY in the British capital - came just hours after Second Minister for Trade and Industry S Iswaran told Parliament that negotiations between race promoter Singapore GP and FOM were "still ongoing". Mr Ecclestone, 81, told this newspaper that all obstacles preventing the deal from going through have been resolved and that the timing of the official announcement of the contract renewal will be decided and made by the Singapore Government. An option for two more races until 2014 - after this year's edition from Sept 21 to 23 - would have kicked in had FOM and the Singapore authorities decided to walk away from the negotiating table. "Everything that was in the way of the Singapore Grand Prix continuing for another five years has been cleared," said Mr Ecclestone, chief executive officer of F1 commercial rights holder FOM. "I'm happy that this is out of the way because Singapore has been good to F1 and the night race has also been equally good for Singapore." Earlier on Monday, in a written reply to a question by Holland-Bukit Timah GRC Member of Parliament Liang Eng Hwa, Mr Iswaran also reiterated that Singapore will continue to host the race "only if the terms for a full five-year extension are economically viable". "We hope to see a mutually agreeable outcome soon," he had added. Over the weekend, Singapore GP executive director Michael Roche told reporters that money was at the centre of talks to renew the current contract. Despite being snowed under with work after Sunday's British Grand Prix, which was also attended by Singapore negotiators, Mr Ecclestone was keen to reassure that all was well with Formula 1's only night race. Said Mr Ecclestone: "It has always been my intention to see that this race in Singapore continues beyond our current deal. Now that the negotiations are finally over, I am looking forward to go to Singapore for this year's event because I've always enjoyed it." First held in 2008 on the 5.073 km Marina Bay street circuit, the rights fee to stage the Singapore Grand Prix is believed to have cost Singapore organisers US$35 million initially, and after yearly increases, peaked at about US$42 million last year. It cost another S$150 million to prepare for each race, and 60 per cent - or S$90 million - of that amount is footed by the Singapore Government. A feasibility study to review the benefits of continuing with the race here beyond the first agreement was conducted by authorities after the 2010 edition. It revealed that in the first three years, the night race raked in a total of more than S$420 million in tourism receipts, while an average of more than 110,000 international visitors came to Singapore annually. In terms of global reach, the race also attracted a total of 300 million television viewers worldwide. - TODAY
  20. Motor insurance has increased in recent years, I seriously hope they (Insurance Companies) will think about rewarding loyal customers. Singapore motor insurers make first profit since 2005 Published on Mar 14, 2012 By Christopher Tan Most motorists - especially those who have been accident-free - can expect a breather when they next renew their motor insurance, after years of unrelenting premium rises. Motor insurers posted an underwriting profit of $21.2 million in 2011, the first after five consecutive years of losses. At its annual briefing on Wednesday, the General Insurance Association (GIA) said the average premium collected from motor insurance - which still forms the single biggest segment for the industry - rose by 2.5 per cent in 2011 to an all-time high of $1,274. Average motor premium had been rising year on year since 2006, when it was $867.
  21. I believe many of you same as me could not make it to the show. I found this so-called virtual tour link. Quite happy to see all the cars although I am not there. http://www.carsut.com/the-33rd-bangkok-int...w-virtual-tour/ Btw, anyone go there?
  22. So will we see a lower premium? ------------------------------------ Taken from Yahoo News Motor insurers in Singapore finally got themselves out of the red after suffering from five consecutive years of losses. Last year, the local motor insurance industry achieved an underwriting profit of S$21.2 million
  23. i got hit at the back few days ago.. when i went down to check, the damage was minimal, however..the other driver insisted that i claim against him got a call from the appointed insurance workshop saying that i might not be able to claim against him as the claim is below 2k..i think my excess is 2k is there anything i can do? my car is still at the workshop..
  24. http://www.sgcarmart.com/news/events_features.php?AID=2514 SAy byebye to sales Honda... This version of the US exterior was rated not recommended in the Consumer Reports. Kah Motor should have brought in the UK version which would had a better appeal to the locals
