  1. [extract] Just like a miscarriage, the production version of the Jaguar C-X75 will not live to see the day light on the common street. According to global brand director Adrian Hallmark, the decision was made due to the ongoing global economic crisis. "We feel we could make the car work, but looking at the global austerity measures in place now, it seems the wrong time to launch an

  3. The Morgan 3 Wheeler is a unique car/motorcycle/tricycle that blends vintage with new-age. The open wheeled (for the front at least) vehicle was originally built to race in the World Endurance Championship backed by an established team at race tracks that hosts multiple racing events from 24 hours of Le Mans to Formula One. Its funny how I was reading the wikipedia entry and could not find much on its racing heritage. Anyway, the open cockpit nature provides a better sense of speed and judgement while providing drivers more control of their car. Morgan is often geared towards providing motor enthusiasts cars that are not only powerful but fun to drive as well. A new 100 piece limited - Morgan 3 Wheeler 'Gulf Edition' will be offered by Morgan that marries Morgan's love for motorsports and the Gulf Oil liveries rich racing success. Like the name suggests, the Morgan 'trike' will be offered in the iconic Gulf racing livery with limited edition badging and embossed leather. You also get black engine, head lamps, roll hoops, mud guards, exhausts on top of orange rimmed mirrors and wall tyres and steering wheel stitching.
  4. Turn 10 is back with another DLC this time for its new racing game - Forza Horizon - speaking of which my copy is collecting dust somewhere in my room, hmm. Anyway, each month Turn 10 offers a variety of drool-worthy rides to add to your virtual garage. Design inspiration came from the 1966 Sebring-winning Ford GTX roadster with a functional and innovative roof system comprised of four hard panels. The car is powered by a near 550bhp 5.4-litre supercharged V-8. 2006 Hummer H1 Alpha Open Top The Hummer H1 is probably the most dominant and capable off-road vehicle ever created - minus road practicality. Demanding attention, this 'tank on wheels' was never meant for commercial production. At 7,500 pounds, it can literary eat other cars. Despite its large frame, it could do 300bhp. 1993 McLaren F1 Conceived by Gordon Murray, the McLaren F1 translates Formula Technology in a road car. The McLaren F1 took more than 30 years to reach fruition but when it finally entered production it was the performance benchmark breaking several speed records and held to it untill the introdcution of the Bugatti Veyron. With its unique central seating and BMW sourced 6.1-litre V12 good for 627bhp. 5. Many of us know that workshops are overcharging us. Whether it is an authorized workshop or it be Ah Tan's Motor (fictitious name). Many times we have no idea at all as to what went wrong and we will blindly listen to what the mechanics are telling us, nodding our heads as though we understood everything they said (or did not say). Most other times, we just grumble a little and hand over our ATM card. After all, when something goes wrong with our car, we just want to get it fix as soon as possible. Recently I met with one such incident and, in what I felt, had been totally ripped off. It was probably partly my fault for being too rough on the car. I had pulled up in a Shell station, grab the gear shifter, and with probably a little too much force, yanked it to "P". What followed was a heart sinking "krucckk" sound, accompanied by all the lights beside the gear indicator lighting up and the car now stuck in "R" gear. The gear shifter now has completely lost all resistance and could freely move from P to 1 with a push of a finger. The gear linkage had came loose. Now, if this were to happen to your friend (lets call him John), who is the average driver and knows nothing about cars, along say Ang Mo Kio Street 11. He/She would probably have thought the worst and a tow truck would be definitely called for. In his/her mind now, this seems to warrant a pretty serious repair, and equally hefty bill. The workshops know this and therefore, they charge accordingly. Let me show you what actually happened to my car. No. 2 is the Gear Linkage that goes to the shifter No. 3 is the Actuator Lever that is connected to the Gearbox itself Due to my excessive force, No.2 came loose from No.3. It is basically a rubber boot (No.2) that slots into a ball end on No.3. However, I had damaged the rubber boot slightly and it will not fit properly onto the actuator lever anymore. So, the workshop decided to change the actuator lever to another which has a screw end instead of a slot-in ball end. They then drill a small hole into the rubber boot so the screw can be fitted through and a nut can be used to hold it in place. This actuator lever is only a piece of metal about the size of your thumb. So I thought, Hey! That will be cheap! Estimated about maximum $30 for that piece. NO. It cost $240. I was a mechanic in army and I know a little about stuffs like that, $240, that is way overkill. The mechanic who knows me knew it was excessive but he said that's what the boss quoted and he can't do anything about it. Not wanting to put my friend in a spot, I reluctantly paid up. Now, if your friend John who by now believe that he needs to fork out at least $1000 for some huge damage to his gearbox was told that he will only have to pay $240. He'd be delighted and would have gladly paid up. Sad truth here is, due to the high cost of cars in Singapore, many people mistakenly think that car components cost a lot when in fact cost price for a basic Suzuki swift can be as low as $6000 -$8000 (est.). Do you think that a piece of metal warrants $240? If you have any similar experiences, do share under the comments section.

  9. The Car Paint Solution Cars are expensive. To protect our investment, we make sure our car is in good running order by regularly taking it to the workshop for tune-ups, oil changes and repairs. We also spend a lot of money and time to ensure that our cars are in 'showroom condition'. We wash and wax it - really wanting it to shine, to sparkle and to be noticed. Unfortunately, in taking care of both the paint and the shine, we often cause damage and deteriorate the sparkle. The Elements and Car Wax The quality of the shine will, naturally, affect the overall presentation of the car. Obviously, it is the paint that is most exposed to harsh environmental elements. The damages to paint from rain that is acidic, dust particles that stick to the car surface, and UV rays which speed up oxidation are real. These elements can ruin paint and shine quickly if one doesn't protect the paint. Most car owners' solution to maintaining the shine turns out to cause even more damage. SierraGlow - Glass coating protection One brand that utilises such paint protection technology is SierraGlow. As opposed to other products in the market, the company's offering - Glassglow - contains 95% Silica (one of the highest concentration in the market), which makes it comparatively more durable than those formed by other glass type coating materials. Besides providing extensive protection capabilities, the layer's high water and dirt repelling properties imply that owners will have an easier time cleaning up the car thereafter - a mild water bath will suffice for regular maintenance. What is the difference? SierraGlow is truly unique with its formula. Although the compound, Glassglow, is primarily silica, it is inert and inorganic. Why is this important? Organic materials, by definition, contain carbon, and carbon will react and interact with weather elements. So, acid rain, UV sunrays, bird dung or car shampoo will all interact with organic silica coatings. These compounds on the car paint will slowly deteriorate and dissipate. These organic compounds will need to be reapplied, and most companies selling these compounds will tell you to bring the car back every year or even 6 months for a "refinishing". Unlike other companies, SierraGlow's Glassglow is 100% inorganic and has the highest concentration of 95% of silica in the market. Hence, it will not deteriorate as quick. Since its inorganic compound does not interact with the standard paint threats, GlassGlow stays on the car. Even after each wash, your car's shine will stay. It is, thus, vital to ask before you select: Is the compound organic or inorganic? Advantages of using SierraGlow One big advantage of using SierraGlow is not just their inorganic GlassGlow, but the compounds that they use to prepare your car for the GlassGlow application. They may spend 3 to 8 hours to complete the paint preparation, as any house owner knows, it is the foundation that is the most important and takes the longest to build. Before GlassGlow is applied, they thoroughly clean and buff the paint. It is crucial to restore the surface to clean and smooth paint before applying GlassGlow. They use clay bars and the latest sponge or lamb's wool orbital buffers from Japan in preparing the paint. More notably, they use their own polishing/buffing compounds called TC Hard, TC Round, TC Combo, TC All or TC Finish. Each of these compounds is specially formulated for variety in paint hardness, the depth of surface scratches and general paint restoration. These compounds are unique and not sold on the open market as they were specifically designed for SierraGlow and its GlassGlow application. In SierraGlow's inventory are additional great car care products which also boast extraordinary cutting edge technology, namely the SierraWash and SierraBead. For instance, SierraWash is a car washing agent with a neutral pH value to ensure that there is no 'chemical attack' on the paintwork. SierraBead on the other hand, maintains a high water paint surface runoff, hence, reducing the occurrence of water spots, and renewing the glow and water repellence of Glassglow. In addition, SierraBead works well with all colours, and is suitable for use on different materials such as glass, aluminium and galvanised steel. While setting its emphasis strongly on product development to ensure maximum efficiency, SierraGlow's products are also environmentally friendly. They do not contain any volatile organic compound (VOC) and do not disrupt any environmental hormones. Under the SierraGlow program, all cars will be warranted against disintegration of the Glassglow layer for three years. You only require one application for a shine that will last for years. Every application will come with a serial number and proof of warranty for authentication purpose. For a limited time only, the package will come with a free 3M Scotchgard internal grooming service. Furthermore, all sgCarMart users will enjoy 15% discount when booking online with SierraGlow, simply by quoting 'sgcar108'. For more information on service booking and product, please visit http://www.sierraglow.sg/.
  10. If you are reading this blog entry, then you are probably one of the members who spend hours on mycarforum and myautoblog every day. And hanging out with other car enthusiasts, you would probably know at least the basics of cars; maybe more. When you buy a car, you more or less know what sort of car and kit you are getting for your hard earned money. But you would be in the minority. Most Singaporean car buyers couldn't give a damn what is under the bonnet, the figures or even if the car was rear wheel drive. What they do give a damn about though is the badge stuck on the bonnet and boot of the car. Who cares about how the car drives so long as the badge is fancy enough to impress your next door neighbour, your relatives and your friends. The car badge is literally worth more than its weight in gold. Anyone remember those fake Lexus Harriers running rampant in Singapore several years ago? And unsurprisingly, the premium car marques in Singapore have caught onto this propensity for flashing wealth. And so BMW brought in the 1 series as an affordable and attainable way of getting on the premium car bandwagon and then the 320i and then the 318i. Well guess what? Now there is an even more affordable way to lay one's grubby Singaporean hands on a snobbish German badge - the Audi A1! If one can put up with the small size of the car, it represents the most badge for buck! Imagine the 4 Audi Circles for $126 grand thereabouts! With COE prices as they are these days, this sum isn't all that steep (relatively speaking). This has got to be my top pick for maximum badge for minimum cash! So, just in case, if you happen to be in the majority (i.e. you have some snob in you); and are in the market for a premium car, you should head down and plonk down some cash for an Audi A1 right away. No test drive needed and don't even bother with the car reviews. It won't matter to you anyway. You get all your money back the next time you pull up alongside your neighbour's VW Golf. Well, at least until the Aston Martin Cygnet goes into production and your neighbour gets his hands on one. PS: If you were ever in doubt, this was a review of the new Audi A1 and it told you all you needed to know about it. And no I didn't have to drive one to write this.
  11. The National Heritage Board together with the Singapore & Malaysian Vintage Car Register held their 2012 Motoring Heritage Day at the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station over the weekend. It was a fitting location as the two day event not only showcased the cars from days gone by, but at the same time, the now unused train station was opened up for visitors to roam another relic of transportation. I popped by for a short visit on the second day, took in the sights and at the same time, took some photos. Honestly, i'm not much of a vintage man, the cars which interest me extend back to the most, the 1970s or late 1960s. There are some exceptions of course, muscle cars and rat rods are granted exemption from that rule too. Cars like this Alfa fit just nicely at the ends of that age group. It might be getting on in years but this is one of the most lovely cars in my book. It's nice to know Alfa hasn't (totally) lost their flair for producing some good looking cars. "Some" because there were some turds along the way. There were a couple of Karmann Ghia convertibles sitting around looking pretty. The Karmann Ghia might have started production in the mid 50s but continued to be made up to the mid-late 70s, so it still falls within range of cars which pique my interest. Another car with a similarly long production lifespan was this Fiat 500. Or if you are familiar with the movie, Cars, Luigi! Cars like this Frogeye Sprite get special exemption. Just look at those lights! See the link with our modern day MX5 grins? Pagoda SL. Audrey Hepburn. Imagine filling this up at the petrol station. Simply elegant back then.
  12. While Borneo Motors have been retailing TRD performance parts for its Toyota range since June, Toyota will hold a premiere during the Paris motor show at the end of the month for the European release. TRD, an acronym for Toyota Racing Development, has been developing tuning parts for Toyota automobiles in Japan for more than 50 years, and soon will be available throughout Europe for the first time. In Paris, a GT86 (as its called there) fitted with select parts will highlight the exterior, interior and mechanical components that are available. The TRD parts will not be grouped into packages will be sold individually. On the outside, the TRD range spans a number of aero parts such as a front spoiler, side skirts, a rear trunk and under spoiler. They can be finished in either white and partial black, all black, or an unpainted, primer finish. Other available options are a metallic silver fuel filler cap, a stainless steel rear diffuser set and a choice of two, TRD 18-inch alloy wheels. Inside, TRD offers a center console-mounted button ignition, and a leather trimmed gear knob. Performance upgrades includes full-length ride adjustment shock absorber and spring suspension set among others. Braking can also be improved with a Monoblock Brake Kit that
  13. Besides the top three automakers in Germany, perhaps another automaker that could potentially have a wide range of premium automobiles from Europe is Alfa Romeo. Yes, they might not have the financial capacity or wide market reach as the others, but the brand cartainly does not lack carisma. Which is probably why the VW Group has showed such an interest in the firm. It is a real pity that parent company Fiat is not/can't spend enough money and resources to establish Alfa as a premium Italian automaker, like the German big three or Lexus, Infiniti. That does not stop avid motorheads from dreaming. Procaccini has envisioned a 'four door coupe' to rival the CLS, 6 Series GC and A7. Dubbed Orazio Satta, it is named after Orazio Satta Puliga (1910-1974), a respected designer and general vice president (1969
  14. Lada comes back from the future with Xray concept which is probably the best design Russia has ever produced besides the Marussia supercars. Is a new auto industry emerging from a country which has an expanding car market? Russian auto giant AvtoVAZ debuted the Lada Xray concept crossover at the 2012 Moscow Auto Show. The concept's name is derived from the X-shape on its face, which looks like the Spindle grille of Lexus. For some reason AvtoVAZ is not putting the Xray up for production though the new look might be the new family face for future production vehicles by 2015. The Xray concept was designed by Steve Mattin, AvtoVAZ's new design chief who penned the 1997 Mercedes-Benz A-Class and current Volvo XC60. The British-born Mattin was also the former vice president and design director of Volvo Cars. "It's got a fairly long heritage and is a key player in the Russian market, it's an interesting time." Mattin said in an interview. Picture credit: Autoblog Exterior Interior
  15. German tuners TC Concepts have laid their hands on the well received 458 Italia. The project has been dubbed 'General Consul' for unknown reasons. The latest tuning company to play with the 458 Italia, the General Consul kit starts with a Novitec body kit adding a front and rear spoiler, side skirts, front fender vents among other extras. The Novitec kit also increases the output to 609bhp. TC Concepts has basically darkened out the rear lamps and colour-keyed he prancing horse emblems. The car is mainly finished in a bumblebee friendly yellow and black which also continues in the cabin. Throw in a couple of ComfortDelgro logos and it will blend in well with the local cab population. The extended carbon front flaps looks like the 458 has been given a thin moustache and from reminds me of the Joker's scars from The Dark Knight. Like the 'yellow ring' they have added to the rims and the black as night emblem on a yellow background just looks sinister. Looks like a car fit for the Yellow Lanterns then. They are after all fuelled by fear.
  16. The ongoing 16th Moscow International Auto Salon (2012 MIAS) is expected to draw more than 1 million visitors whom can browse many new models and concepts including 23 world, 21 European and 85 Russian premieres. Russia with a population of 140 million has an improving economy, where a large number commute by driving old cars. Automakers have an oppurtunity to tap into this market with noteworthy premieres like the new Mazda6 and the facelifted Audi R8. Well, I'm not here to talk about the cars, but to present the equally beautiful booth babes and models that were present. Like any other motor show, there wasn't a drought of beautiful women at the show and here are some that caught my eye. Picture credit: Carscoop
  17. [extract] The BMW 3 series is a remarkable and highly successful car line that dates back to the legendary BMW 2002. While the current F-30 3 series, in its sixth generation, looks largely different to the 2002 or the E21 3 series, a tuning company in Hungary decided to pay homage to the E30, which celebrates its 30th birthday this year. TMCars design have conceived a body kit that could modernize any existing E30 stock car that is stylish enough for the
  18. While the term 'Gentleman's Racer' might sound like an oxymoron, that's exactly what the MC Stradale is. Maserati's edgiest drive is hardcore yet still perfectly chivalrous around town. When a car maker announces that they will be making a road-legal racecar, everyone sits up and listens. So it was with Maserati, when news of a stripped out, hardcore version of the GranTurismo was underway, the world (myself included) waited in anticipation to see what this manic italian beast was going to be like. Well here I am, strapped in by a 4-point harness onto light-weight carbon fibre seats, surrounded by racy blue alcantara, shifting gear upon gear in lightning speed (0.06 seconds to be exact), and accelerating into license-revoking speeds. But it's not the speed - blindingly quick it may be - that has got the hair at the back of my neck standing, but rather, it's the glorious symphony of camshafts, pistons and the combustion of compressed air that has got me all fired up! If you thought that the 'ordinary' Maserati GranTurismo was loud, this car is dialled up to eleven (going on twelve)! The sound of this thing is simply orgasmic, it is a good enough reason to go out and get one. This 'thing', is none other than the Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale. Let's start with what this car doesn't have. Rear seats for one. The absence of rear seats contribute to the total weight reduction of 110kg, it also makes the MC Stradale the only two-seater in the current Maserati range. The use of carbon fibre (gorgeous) seats also help reduce weight. Now let's talk about what it has. The MC Stradale generates 10bhp more from the 4.7-litre V8 engine than the GranTurismo S. Torque is also up with a further 20Nm improvement at 510Nm. This allows the car to accelerate from nought to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds, all the way to a 300 km/h top speed. Let this be official - this car is FAST! Maybe it's the sound that enhances the sense of speed, but the MC Stradale accelerates angrily through every gear and every rev input given. And it looks quick too, with a new front splitter, sleek bumper with a lower chin, vented bonnet, and even a new rear bumper, the hard-edged nature of the MC Stradale comes through perfectly. Sexy carbon fibre seats covered is racy blue alcantara leather adorn the interior. It may be a little loud for some, but I felt right at home. The brilliant thing about the seats is how they manage to be comfortable and grippy at the same time. The 4-point harness and roll-cage are not mandatory, standard issue is the regular 3-point seat belts. But if you're going to buy a car like that, please go for broke and get the full works. The 4-point belts even have the seat belt safety sensor. How cool is that? With advanced electronics, shift times from the upgraded MC Race Shift electro-actuated transaxle gearbox have been shaved to a mere 60 milliseconds. This is only possible in Race mode, in this mode, the exhaust valves open permanently and the already superb song this car sings becomes a No. 1 billboard chart hit! On the note of drive modes, three are available, Auto, Sport and Race, the latter is only found in this exceptional car. One thing I wished Race mode did as well was tweak the suspension - the car is just too soft. Which brings me to my point of this being a gentleman's racer. It's quite amazing how it can be so ferocious, yet it is really stress-free to drive. The trade-off is that the car won't satisfy hot-blooded trackies. Point the car into a corner and there is some apparent roll, but keep the steering input steady and the line will still hold, but the pitching doesn't inspire confidence. So with a charismatic engine like this, the driver is best left to cruise and mess around with the gears just to hear the snarling symphony of the revs going up and down. Is it worth it? I say with all my heart, YES! At approx S$500K, this awesome machine undercuts other exotic cars by a few hundred thousand quid! With other racy upgrades like Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, custom-developed Pirelli tyres, bespoke light-weight 20" wheels as standard, the Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale is a well equipped exotic that looks good, sounds great, goes fast and most importantly, allows the driver to do all this with much ease.

  22. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) is an independent, non-profit, research and communications organization in the US that primarily conducts crash tests and accesses vehicle safety. Recently they have adopted a new crash test system where the 2012 Audi A4, 2012 Lexus ES, 2012 Lexus IS, and 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class were rated "poor". The new test is designed to simulate the effects of hitting a tree or pole at 64km/h, which only impacts a quarter of the car's front end near the A-pillar area. These collisions are dangerous, and mostly miss the crash structures built into the car's frame. "These are severe crashes, and our new test reflects that," said IIHS President Adrian Lund in a statement. "Most automakers design their vehicles to ace our moderate overlap frontal test and NHTSA's full-width frontal test, but the problem of small overlap crashes hasn't been addressed. We hope our new rating program will change that." Volvo, a brand known for safety was given a "good" rating for its S60, with the Acura TL and Infiniti G sedan coming close. While this might not affect us directly, automakers by large try to accommodate the various stringent test standards, because honestly, who would want to buy a car that is as fragile as a sponge cake? Here's a video that explains the new test standards:
  23. Are you a new millionaire, a drug dealer, part of the mafia or someone who turned into an instant VIP thanks to a video you uploaded on youTube? Well it is time to get an armored car then if you value your life. Sure you will have bodyguards and all but they are good till you are outside the car, not in. Obviously this is for people whom are not residing in Singapore, because I mean, seriously.. how threatened do you feel here? Armoured cars are like vast, heavy tanks with wheels that can be driven with anyone who holds a class 3 license. They are certified to stop anything from poisoned gas to IEDs. The idea of armoured cars are simple. It's basically a normal car fitted with lots of Kevlar, titanium , thick glass, run flat tyres and stuff. Having said that do not make your own because there are established luxury automakers whom are more than capable. So lets start shall we? The Audi A8 L Security can hit 100km/h in 7s thanks to its 6.3-litre W12 engine that produces 500bhp and 624Nm of torque. The car can withstand shots from high-powered rifles and blasts from IEDs and hand grenades. The cabin can pump fresh air during the event of a chemical attack and a button has been installed to make it easier to knock out the heavily armored doors. Most armored cars are subtle but this $8 million Rolls-Royce Phantom EWB is unlike most armored cars. It can withstand blasts from grenades and bullets from AK-47s despite being covered in 120kg worth of gold. Want something a little British? How about the Jaguar XJ Sentinel, besides Land Rovers are mainly used by Mafia's anyway, we need class right? It can withstand a blast from up to 14kg of TNT in addition to offering protection from assault rifles and machine guns. Performance wise the 3.2tonne leaping cat is powered by a 385bhp 5.0-litre V8 that hits 100km/h in under 10 seconds. RENNtech decided to tune the Mercedes-Benz S600 Guard to make it easier to escape from danger. The ECU was redone; a carbon fiber airbox was added and the intercooler pump was substantially strengthened. All told the S600 Guard now has 640bhp, up from 517bhp, and 1049Nm of torque. The Maybach 62 Guard is a massive luxury sedan has been beefed up by an additional 408kg worth of steel and Kevlar reinforcements. Despite the heft, the Maybach's twin-turbo V12 can still hit 100km/h in 5.7 seconds before maxing out to an electronically limited top speed of 249km/h. Picture Credit: CarBuzz
