  1. There is a new "3" sedan in town. Although it may sound like a car that hails from Germany, it is actually the first small family saloon from Chinese car manufacturer, Qoros. The Qoros 3 will be making its world premiere in March's Geneva Motor Show. Qoros was founded as a part of a joint venture between Chery Automobile and global holding company, Israel Corporation. At launch, the 4.59m long saloon will be available with two 1.6-litres petrol engines - a naturally-aspirated unit and a turbocharged version. They produce 126bhp and 156bhp respectively. Both engines will come with a six-speed manual transmission as standard and an optional dual-clutch automatic transmission. The lower-powered engine propels the car from 0 to 100km/h in 11.0 seconds while the turbocharged lump does the same job in 9.0 seconds. Two turbocharged, direct-injected engines with 1.2-litres and 1.6-litres capacity are under development. The Qoros 3 sedan will be joined by the Qoros 3 Estate Concept at the Geneva Motor Show. The Qoros 3 sedan will go on sale in the second half of the year.
  2. The Alfa Romeo Gloria concept, which will debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, is said to be a preview of the new Giulia sedan that will go on sale in Europe, Asia and the United States in 2015. The Giulia sedan is the replacement of the Alfa 159 whose production ended in late 2011. The Giulia will be offered as a wagon as well. Measuring 4700mm long by 1920mm wide by 1320mm tall with a wheelbase of 2900mm, the Gloria concept is developed by students from the European Design Institute who were asked to create their vision of a sedan that would appeal to customers in North American and Asia. The new Giulia will have the longest wheelbase among models underpinned by Fiat-Chrysler's compact wide architecture. The Giulia will be an integral part of Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne's plan to boost Alfa Romeo's sales to 300,000 units by 2016 from 100,000 in 2012.
  3. Mercedes has released the official photos of the A 45 AMG prior to its world premiere at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. The German hot hatch is planned to go on sale in April. The A 45 AMG is powered by a highly-tuned 2.0-litre turbocharged, direct-injected engine that is good for 350bhp and 450Nm of torque. Its main rivals, the BMW 135i and Audi RS3, produce 320bhp/450Nm and 340bhp/450Nm respectively. Power is transferred to all four wheels via an AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission. It should complete the century sprint in 4.6 seconds en route to an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h.
  4. As Renault prepares for the market launch of the Clio Estate, the French brand has released a slew of photos of the new model. If you think that Estate body styles are well, lacking in style, the Clio Estate might change that impression. The new Clio Estate had its world premiere at last year's Paris Motor Show and will go on sale in Europe soon. The Clio Estate has an avant-garde front fascia inspired by the Dezir concept car. The Estate model has the same wheelbase as the Clio hatchback but an elongated boot means that the overall length of the car increases to 4,262mm. This improves the cargo-carrying capacity of the boot by 50% against the five-door's 443 litres. When the front passenger seat is folded flat, the new Renault Clio Estate boasts an impressive loading length of 2.48m from the tailgate to the glove compartment. The new Clio Estate is equipped with a selection of the latest power plants from Renault, including a turbocharged 0.9-litres straight-three which produces 90bhp and two versions of the diesel 1.5dCi straight-four, one with 75bhp and the other with 90bhp. All the above mentioned engines produce less than 100g of CO2 per km travelled.

  6. Opel has made an announcement to introduce the Zafira Tourer 1.6 CDTI at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. It will be the first Opel model to feature GM Europe's latest diesel engine which will eventually replace the current range of 1.7-litre diesel and certain lower-powered 2.0-litre diesels. The 1.6-litre CDTi engine has an output of 134bhp with a peak torque of 320Nm, enabling the MPV to complete a century sprint in 10.4 seconds before achieving a top speed of 193km/h. In terms of efficiency, the Zafira sips fuel at an average rate of 4.1L/100 km with CO2 emissions of 109 g/km. This means that the oil burner should qualify for CEVS rebates of up to S$15,000 should the car come to Singapore. Measuring 4.66m (L) by 1.82m (W) by 1.69m (H), the Zafira is in the compact MPV market against the likes of the Volkswagen Touran and Toyota Wish.
  7. [extract] As we count down to the Geneva Motor Show in March, Rolls-Royce has revealed more teaser images of the two-door version of the Ghost Saloon, known as the Wraith. "This image depicts Wraith's muscular rear haunches
  8. Fancy the power of the Veloster Turbo but wished that it comes with a 4th door? Good news! The all-new Kia Forte 5-door may fit the bill. The latest Korean hatchback was launched at the recent 2013 Chicago Auto Show. Like the four-door sedan, the five-door Forte looks sportier and more sophisticated that its predecessor. It has a slimmer grille than the sedan and comes with a more aggressive-looking front bumper that house a larger air intake. For the new Forte hatchback, beauty is more than skin deep. The big news is that the 1.6-litre T-GDI will be offered as one of the engine choice. The turbocharged lump churns out 201bhp with 264Nm of torque between 1,750 rpm to 4,500 rpm. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission. This most powerful Forte to date wears 18-inch alloys and has a sports-tuned MacPherson suspension at the front with multi-link setup at the rear. "The combination of a useful hatchback for carrying cargo and the sportiness of the turbocharged SX trim make the all-new Forte 5-door a dual threat in the segment," said Kia Motors America executive vice president of marketing, Michael Sprague. Kia
  9. [extract] Volkswagen has launched two limited editions of the MK6 Golf GTI to commemorate the final model year of the hot hatch at the Chicago Auto Show. The GTI Wolfsburg Edition will go on sale in Q1 2013 and only 2000 units will be produced. For the GTI Driver

    Suzuki

Back in September last year, Suzuki showcased a concept vehicle at the Paris Motor Show. The concept is known as the S-Cross and the company has promised to unveil a production version of the concept in 2013. Recently, the Japanese automaker has released a couple of teaser images of the car in a new form and it will premiere at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show in March. The yet unnamed C-segment crossover is based on the above mentioned concept and it is said to be the successor to the Suzuki SX4. Suzuki has stated that the car will offer outstanding versatility to consumers and it will feature a roomy interior and one of the largest luggage area in its segment. Much of the car
  11. Like someone who goes for frequent Botox treatments, the Renault Scenic and Grand Scenic MPVs have undergone yet another facelift since the last time in January 2012. These revised models will make their world premiere in March's Geneva Motor Show together with the tough-looking Scenic XMOD. The facelifted Scenic and Grand Scenic sport the French carmaker's new corporate grille that is seen on the Clio and Captur crossover. On the interior, the MPVs get Renault's latest R-Link infotainment system featuring joystick control and a touchscreen display. The higher end Scenic model gets a Bose sound system. Underneath the hood, the revised Scenic family (including XMOD model) will be sold with three new Energy engines including the 1.4-litre TCe 130 which produces 130bhp as its name suggests. The new TCe 130 has a low-inertia turbocharger that is responsive even at low engine speeds.
  12. The all-new Infiniti Q50 will be making its European Premiere at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show in March. More importantly, the replacement for the G Series saloon will be the first Infiniti model to get forced-fed power plants sourced from Mercedes Benz. Although Infiniti did not reveal any details on the engines, they are expected to be the gasoline 1.8-litre turbocharged and the 2.1-litre diesel lump. The oil burner churns out 204bhp/500Nm in the CLS250 while the 1.8-litre produces 184bhp/270Nm in the C200 BlueEFFICIENCY. "The Infiniti Q50 is a world-class sports saloon with an engine line-up that will clearly demonstrate its intentions to be a major player within the European premium market," said Bernard Loire, Vice President, Infiniti Africa, Middle East and Europe (AMIE). Measuring 4.78m (L) by 1.82m (W) by 1.44m (H), the new Q50 saloon is targeted at BMW 3 Series and Audi A4 buyers. With a new range of smaller capacity engines, Infiniti will be able to compete more effectively in the European market than in the past. I am sure a 1.8-litre Infiniti saloon will improve the market share of the premium Japanese brand in Singapore as well.
  13. [extract] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D92gxpAcrRA After the introduction of the revised Continental GT Coupe and GTC convertible, Bentley is preparing the launch of the facelifted saloon version - the Flying Spur. As a build-up leads to the eventual launch of the 2014 Bentley Flying Spur during March
  14. For those of you who have been longing for a convertible version of the Toyota 86 coupe, your wait might be over soon. Toyota will be presenting the FT-86 Open Concept in March's Geneva Motor Show. For now, the Japanese carmaker has showed an official sketch of the concept which reveals a 2+2 seating layout. On the concept, Toyota says that it previews a possible future development of the award-winning GT86 sports coupe and its goal is to gauge the public's reaction to the idea of an open-top GT86. Toyota adds that the prototype version of the FT-86 is already undergoing testing. If public reaction is positive, a production model could be available in roughly a year
  15. Images of the 2014 Audi A3 sedan has been captured for the first time during its outdoor testing in Europe. The test car is covered up in black and white body decal but we can still make out the general shape of the car. As a direct competitor to the recently-launched Mercedes CLA, the styling of the production model follows closely to the concept that made its debut nearly two years ago at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. The 2013 A3 sedan is expected to measure about 4.44m (L) x 1.84m (B) wide x 1.39m (H). This means Audi
  16. Toyota has revealed the Corolla Furia concept at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show. Like the Auris, the Furia concept sports the latest corporate face of the Japanese brand. According to a statement on the Furia concept, Toyota states that it builds on the brand's product development priority to develop more dramatic, expressively designed vehicles. Toyota did not reveal any details on the concept's horsepower, torque and handling capabilities. The concept measures 4,620mm long by 1,805mm wide by 1,425mm tall. If this is an indication of the production version, the next corolla would have grown 80mm longer, 45mm wider yet sits 40mm lower - adopting a sportier stance. The tail light, which appears to borrow styling cue from the Kia Optima, and the integrated exhaust pipes gives the rear a sporty look. The US Corolla and the ASEAN version that we are getting have similar bodywork. If you feel that styling of the current 10th generation Corolla Altis is too conservative for your liking, the 11th generation might change that thought.
  17. The recent Tokyo Auto Show and the North American International Auto Show are considered by many to be two of the biggest auto events and at times these two could overshadow other not so well known auto exhibitions. At the 2013 Montreal International Auto Show, where not many were talking or reporting about, Honda showcased a promising concept car that was inspired by fixed-gear bicycles. The concept car you see here is simply known as the Gear Concept. The two door concept shows a highly stylish design and is equalised with levels of practicality. The design of the car also opens the option for future customisation. Honda has stated that the concept was inspired by a fixed-gear bicycle which results in a design that's both simple and utilitarian but at the same time it is also customisable, connected and full of personality. The sub-compact city car concept is targeted at the Gen-Y market segment. Dave Marek, design director at Honda R&D Americas, mentioned that the Gear Concept is fun and affordable, plus it will offer "everything that young urban buyers will want in a car." The Gear Concept looks smaller than the Honda Fit/Jazz and it is said to be up against other rival models such as the Fiat 500, the Citroen DS3 and also the Mini. Nothing was mention about the concept's engine and drive train or whether will the company have any plans to put it into production in the near future. But whatever it is; Honda, who is known for its stylish designs and good build quality, should just build this promising and stylish concept car.
  18. Hyundai has unveiled the HCD-14 Genesis concept at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show. The four-door coupe concept is a preview of the next generation Genesis and carries design elements for future Hyundai products. The concept is powered by the Korean carmaker's 5.0-litre direct-injected 'Tau' V8 with dual continuously variable valve timing. The engine is linked an 8-speed automatic transmission which delivers power to the rear wheels. "We instilled HCD-14 Genesis with a premium-sport four-door coupe road presence", said Christopher Chapman, Hyundai's Chief Designer in America. "Its sleek and lightweight silhouette does not punish the wind but used fluidic precision with dramatic surfacing that conveys natural restraint." The front end is dominated by a large grille with 4 horizontal metal bars, which can appear overbearing. The concept has a tapered boot like the Audi A7. Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the HCD-14 is its rear-hinged rear doors, or commonly known as "suicide doors". Like most four-door coupes in the market, the HCD-14 strictly sits four.
  19. Honda's premium arm - Acura presented its 2014 Acura MDX Prototype at the 2013 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), offering a first glimpse of the styling direction for the third SUV which seats seven passengers to be launched by mid-2013 in either an all-wheel or front-wheel drive layouts. "Our goal is to advance on MDX's already great dynamic performance while improving fuel economy and luxury comfort. Building on the great momentum we established in 2012 with the launch this year of our flagship RLX, followed later this year by a terrific new luxury SUV in MDX we are very excited about the direction of the Acura brand. And we are truly looking forward to a great 2013," said Mike Accavitti, vice president of national marketing operations. Let's be honest its looks like a typical Honda with the corporate face of an Acura - so no surprises on the styling front though the eye-blinding Acura Jewel Eye LED lights adds a nice touch. The 2014 MDX Prototype is 38mm lower than the preceding model outgoing model but features a longer wheelbase for an enhanced ride quality, an increase in legroom in the second row - which in turn improves accessibility to the third row. In a bid to pacify the strong demand for the MDX, Acura will offer a front-wheel driven variant for 'warm weather markets' (UAE) on top of an all-wheel drive. Powering the MDX is an all new, 3.5-litre V6 engine and will be produced in Lincoln, Alabama. Using domestic and globally sourced parts, the MDX is built exclusively in North America.
  20. The 2013 Detroit Motor Show has started on a positive note for Cadillac as the ATS sedan has been named the North American Car of The Year by a jury of automotive writers. Finalists for the title include the 2013 Honda Accord and Ford Fusion sedans. "This is a very meaningful honor for the entire Cadillac team, especially the men and women who build the ATS in Lansing, Michigan, and our dedicated and talented designers and engineers," said Bob Ferguson, GM vice president, Cadillac Global. "A car like ATS is the result of incredible commitment and focus. That's the only method for creating a great performing luxury car." The Cadillac ATS is compact luxury sedan designed to take on the likes of the BMW 3-series and Audi A4. The ATS is offered with a choice of three engines, namely a 202bhp 2.5-litre, 272bhp 2.0-litre turbo and a 3.6-litre V6 with 321bhp. These engines are mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. A diesel engine will be available in the future. The ATS is based upon General Motors' Alpha platform and is offered in either rear- or all-wheel drive configurations.
  21. Many carbon fibre parts were used to build the Lexus LFA and because of this, Toyota has pumped in a significant amount of money on carbon fibre manufacturing. This was done to reduce the costs of producing carbon fibre parts. After the last Lexus LFA rolled out of its production facility in December last year, the company had no other use for the lightweight material in a production model. So, what will happen to the carbon fibre facility that they have? Instead of shutting it down, Toyota will introduce future models with carbon fibre components. Toyota has unveiled a concept model at the recent Tokyo Auto Salon and the car receives a carbon fibre roof. The vehicle is a Mark X and it is named the Toyota Mark X G Sport Concept. The carbon fibre material replaces the steel roof and it reduces 5.8kg off the overall weight. It also lowers the vehicle's centre of gravity by an eighth of an inch. Although this may not sound like much to some people, but every little measure count. And this may also be the beginning of more usage of carbon fibre parts in the car which, in a way, helps to improve performance. Toyota did not reveal whether they will include the carbon fibre roof into the production version of the Mark X G Sport or if the concept is a one-off creation just for the auto show. Whatever the company decides on, I feel that only the premium grade models will get the carbon fibre treatment as it is an expensive material to manufacture.
  22. Infiniti Canada has mistakenly posted the all-new Q50 sports sedan on its website prior to the car's world premiere at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show. The photos were quickly removed but unfortunately, news on the internet spreads faster than wild fire. Infiniti's upcoming sedan is targeted at the compact luxury segment currently dominated by the likes of the BMW 3-Series and Mercedes C-Class. It is the replacement for the G37 sedan, which has been in production since 2007. The front of the car gets a pair of fierce-looking headlights with LED treatment. The grille, which looks like a toned down version of Lexus
