  1. [extract] An auto show or exhibition is the best time and place to unveil a new concept or model because that is when an auto company will get much coverage from the world
  2. [extract] When Renault took over Dacia in the late 1990s, the Romanian automaker car models look rather drab. Most of their cars had boxy shaped shells, as though the cars were from the 1970s or 1980s. Some would contribute this to the Communists influence in Romania (could

  5. A good morning from your friendly MPV-loving fellow forumer! Check out this new MPV from China now on sale in Singapore. Introducing the 1051cc 7-seater Wu Ling Journey: http://www.wuling.com.sg/showroom.htm I don't think many MPV's come with swiveling seats and coffee table... let alone at a good price!
  6. What you're looking at here is the first teaser sketch of Hyundai's foray into Europe's mini-MPV segment, the ix20, which will make its world premiere along with the facelifted i10 city car at the Mondial de l'Automobile in Paris on September 30th. Based on the underpinnings of the Kia Venga, the ix20 was designed and developed at Hyundai's European R&D centre in R
  7. Seat has revealed the 2011 Alhambra MPV, which is based on the Volkswagen Sharan. The MPV, which measures 4.85 meters long, is 22 centimeters longer than the outgoing model and is also 9 centimeters wider. The Alhambra is able to seat seven and features 885 liters of trunk space with the third row folded away. This space can be increased to 2,297 liters when all the seats except for the front two are folded. The Alhambra is scheduled to go on sale this summer. Power for the 7 seater comes from a range of diesel and petrol engines. As expected, the petrol options enjoy the TSI technology from parent VW group, churning out 150hp and 200hp. The other two diesel TDI units deliver outputs of 140hp and 170hp. According to the press release, all four engines are fitted with engine start/stop and brake energy regeneration. The Alhambra comes standard with seven airbags, including a driver-side knee airbag and electric child locks on the rear doors. Other electronic safety guardians include ABS and ESP, electronic braking assistant, trailer stabilisation and tyre pressure monitoring display.
  8. For the second time since its introduction in 2003 and four years after the presentation of the revised model in 2006, the Volkswagen Touran 7-seater MPV has been facelifted again. Due to make its world premiere at this month's Auto Mobil International (AMI) motor show, which runs from 10 to 18 April in Leipzig, Germany, the 2011 Touran features a refreshed styling inspired by the new Polo, Golf and Touareg models. At the front, the Touran gets VW's latest corporate grille along with new headlamp and bumper designs. The rear section of the Touran is also restyled, featuring two-piece tail lamps that extend from the wing into the tailgate. Completing the revisions are a set of new alloy wheels and chrome-edged rubbing strips running down the side of the vehicle as well as new exterior mirrors. On the inside, we get to see the familiar three-spoke steering wheel and a new set of dials featuring white backlighting, which are shared with the 2010 Jetta. A revised centre console with chrome highlights houses the new controls for the ventilation system. For the drivetrains, the new entry-level 1.2-liter TSI gasoline unit with 105HP is joined by a 1.4-liter TSI offered in 140HP and 170HP configurations. These engines are mated to the seven-speed Direct Shift Gearbox.
  9. Volkswagen has pulled the curtain off its latest 7 seater at Geneva - The all new Sharan. It is a timely replacement as the existing model is looking like an antique, and the replacement sports the new VW corporate 'face'. This third-generation variant of the model is the biggest one yet, measuring 4.85 metres long, 1.9m wide but 1.72m lower, together with a wheelbase is 2.92m long. A new feature of the Sharan is the rear sliding door, aimed at making rear access easier. The individual seats of the second and third row can be folded down to create a flat floor for the convenience of transporting huge items. The second row can be adjusted laterally within a range of 160mm and can be tilted by 20 degrees. Consumer will have the option of four direct injection turbo petrol (TSI) and turbo diesel (TDI) engines at launch. The entry level petrol motor generates 150PS, followed by a 200PS version. VW claims that the 140PS TDI model is able to complete 100km with just 5.3L of fuel on the combined cycle. As expected, VW's famed DSG transmission is available for all engine options. In Singapore, the Sharan will compete head on in the large MPV market dominated by the Honda Odyssey, Ford Galaxy, Toyota Previa etc.

    New Mazda 5

This is the all new Mazda 5, previewed ahead of its impending launch at the Geneva Motorshow. The new MPV offering from the Hiroshima based automaker adopts the big smiley corporate face, not unlike the Mazda 3. The front facial resembles a frog, especially the Mazda 3. What do you think ? According to Mazda, the new 5 embraces the dynamic and elegant "Nagare design
  11. The subtly facelifted Ford Galaxy MPV that will be making its world debut at the 2010 Brussels Show in January 2010. More significantly, the revised MPV marks the debut of Ford's all-new 2.0-litre EcoBoost turbocharged petrol engine, which is highly efficient. The new 2.0-liter EcoBoost STCi engine employs turbocharging and direct injection technologies. It pumps out 203HP at 5,500 rpm with a maximum torque of 300Nm, delivered across a broad 1,750-4,500 rpm range. Linked to a standard dual-clutch transmission (DSG), the revised Galaxy performs the century sprint in 8.8 seconds with a top speed of 217 km/h. On the outside, the new Galaxy features a subtly redesigned snout with a more sculpted bonnet. It also receive revised lower and upper grilles along with new silver roof rails and LED tail lights. I am looking forward to the new Ecoboost/DSG combination to be deployed in the Ford Mondeo. This will pose some serious challenge to the Japanese camps with the appropriate pricing.
  12. For those who are considering the latest Toyota Wish that was recently launched from Borneo Motors, there might be some things you should take note before you sign on that cheque book. Although the Borneo Motors (BM) Wish does come with seemingly better interior equipment, when you go chassis deep, it might be a different story. The BM Wish might come with higher quality leather and a high-end audio system but transmission wise, it is equipped with a 4-speed automatic while the Toyota Wish 1.8X from the Parallel Importers (PI) is equipped with a silky smooth 7-speed CVT gearbox. The engine in the BM Wish might have a higher capacity but it produces less horsepower than the PI Wish. The torque figures are a little higher though not significantly so. The 200cc difference in capacity has a great impact on the Wish
