https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2020/06/16/call-to-reopen-border-crossings JOHOR BARU: The two land border crossings with Singapore should be reopened as soon as possible to spur the economy, which has almost come to a standstill since the movement control order started, says Datuk Tee Siew Kiong (pic). “However, a proper standard operating procedure (SOP) should first be put in place to ensure Covid-19 cases do not suddenly spike in both countries due to the mass movement of people, especially workers and the business community, ” said the adviser to the Johor Mentri Besar. Tee hoped that the top brass of the respective foreign ministries would work out a mechanism to reopen the border. “Reopening the Causeway and Second Link will enable both countries to recover from the huge social and economic impact of Covid-19, ” he said, adding that all government agencies should gear up with the proper SOP to handle cross-border movement. He expressed confidence that the relationship between Malaysia and Singapore would be better post-Covid-19.Once the border is reopened, he said the state government should move forward with its plans via the setting up of the Johor Investment Company (Jico) in Singapore to spur the state’s economy. Jico, which is scheduled to be opened by end of the year, is expected to be a platform for Johor and Singapore to discuss bilateral issues. It is similar to Singapore’s consul-general’s office in Johor Baru. Meanwhile, Johor Indian Business Association president P. Sivakumar said the closing of the two land crossings had caused much inconvenience to the people and businesses. “Many people are jobless since the border closed on March 18. How long can people survive on loans or borrowing from relatives?” he said. Besides that, Sivakumar said many families had been separated while many students studying in Singapore were also affected. “I have received hundreds of calls from people asking for help. Many people are wage earners who couldn’t cope with the high cost of living in Johor Baru. They are willing to adhere to the SOP that will be implemented as they want to get back to work, ” he said. “Social and economic problems will worsen when the government’s six-month moratorium on bank loans expires, ” he said. Sivakumar suggested that the border be opened in stages for economic activities while tourism or leisure should be in the final phase. “Malaysia’s SOP so far has been effective in controlling the contagion, ” he said. Seems like msia side more keen than sg to open the borders... Hope officials can work out details on how to open borders safely for those who need to work.. Thousands moving in and out at immigration daily.. It will be hard to practice social distancing... By then u won't know if its imported case or community case.. ISTANBUL — Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has pictured the possibility of Malaysia producing "super cars" in order to further enhance the capability of the nation’s automotive industry. Dr Mahathir said Turkish supercar producer Onuk had indicated willingness to cooperate with Malaysia to produce the exotic vehicle. Dr Mahathir said he had long been aware of Turkish companies’ capability but only now he could see it first-hand. “I was aware of their capability. But there was no follow-up at the time as I was not the prime minister then, so making progress would have been difficult. “And now they are ready to collaborate... not only with that type of car (super car) but also with other cars,’’ he said . Dr Mahathir was speaking to Malaysian reporters at the end of his official visit to Turkey at the Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport (ISGIA) on Sunday (July 28). The Onuk Sazan and Onuk S56/G super car models areexhibited at ISGIA and Dr Mahathir took the opportunity to check them out before he left for home. On Friday, Dr Mahathir had a dialogue session with Turkish captains of industry, and offered them Malaysian expertise to produce their own national car based on the success garnered by Proton and Perodua. Meanwhile, Dr Mahathir praised Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd's (MAHB) success in managing (ISGIA) Turkey’s second largest airport — showing Malaysian companies’ capabilities as well as their ability to expand their operations abroad. He said that although MAHB operates airports in several other countries, ISGIA — which the company wholly owns — is the largest, handling 34 million passengers annually. “It’s much larger than KLIA (Kuala lumpur International Airport), and its management is something special. There are people who recognise our capability in this field and give us a lot of opportunities," said Dr Mahathir. On Friday, Dr Mahathir visited ISGIA, which was taken over entirely by MAHB in 2014, and witnessed its operations. Opened in January 2001, the airport is the second busiest in Turkey and the world’s busiest single-runway airport and terminal. Located some 45 km from Istanbul, it recorded 16.7 million passenger traffic movements as of June this year over first half of 2019, up 3.4 per cent over the same period last yeaar. So I did a 4D3N road trip to Cameron Highlands & Genting Highlands last weekend. Having been to Cameron three times (Rode up twice, drove up once) and Genting (Rode up once, coached up numerous times when I was much younger), this was my first time renting a car in Malaysia to drive up. To those who are interested in renting a car in Malaysia to self-drive up north, here's my personal experience with Wahdah. I will also include some places that I visited in Cameron and maybe Genting. Rented from https://www.wahdah.my/ due to reasonable rates and ease of convenience. Wahdah offers pick up services as near as Caltex JB Sentral which is right beside City Square Mall in JB for a small fee. 1. Easy to understand and navigate website 2. Pretty wide range of cars from the Malaysian brands, to the more common Japanese and Korean cars. Good mixture! Such as the small Perodua Axia, Myvi, Bezza, Proton Saga to the usual Honda Jazz, City, Kia Forte, Toyota Vios, Sienta, Camry, and even the super big Hyundai Starex etc. Prices indicated on this page shows the rate for the entire duration of your booking, not inclusive of other options such as additional driver, pick up and return fee, and also refundable deposit, just to name a few. You can select for prices to be shown in SGD, RM or USD. The next page will allow you to select extra options and all charges are indicated clearly. 3. Easy submission of documents - passport photo, driving license onto website. Just snap photos on your phone and upload it. 4. Renting a car in Malaysia is a good alternative for those who don't wanna risk driving your own car up north for various reasons. Renting a car in Malaysia is also cheaper than renting a car from Singapore to enter Malaysia for those who do not have a car. For my trip, my friend and I rode our cheap kup (motorcycle) into JB and parked in a safe location there. This way we didn't have to take a bus across the causeway etc.

KEDAH - Malaysia will enforce a smoking ban on restaurants, coffee shops and hawker stalls nationwide from Jan 1, Sin Chew Daily cited Deputy Health Minister Lee Boon Chye as saying on Thursday (Oct 11). The ban will cover all air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned restaurants, coffee shops, open-air hawker centres and street stalls. Dr Lee announced the mandatory ban while chairing a health forum at the Asian Institute of Medical, Science and Technology in Kedah. Those caught smoking at prohibited areas will be fined RM10,000 (S$3,300) and eateries found not enforcing the ban will be fined RM2,500. The Star newspaper reported in September that the health ministry was pushing to gazette all open-air restaurants as no-smoking areas, according to Dr Lee. The gazettement was not only to encourage smokers to kick the habit, but also to protect non-smokers from second-hand smoke due to tobacco products. "No doubt smokers will say they have the right to smoke, but non-smokers also have the right to have smoke-free areas," Dr Lee had said. The Gopeng MP is also seeking his fellow MPs' support to shut down the smoking room in Parliament by October. He hopes the MPs who smoke will take the opportunity to quit smoking. "This gazettement is Malaysia's commitment as a member state to the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control and adheres to the guidelines under Article 8 of the World Health Organisation," he added. The current Control of Tobacco Product (Amendment) Regulations 2017 prohibits smoking in 21 areas including hospitals, public toilets, lifts, government premises as well as air-conditioned shops and offices.

Until a few years ago, i used to rent car for msia trip. Some car rentals (pte owner or those 'company' but operate from HDB flat one) will ask u to pay extra $20 per day, for 'extra insurance' if u declare want to go msia. I never really bothered to check, just pay and go. But got once i asked, but the guy said 'its done online' so cannot show me. Anyone can shed light on this? Am just curious whether its really true got extra insurance coverage, or the rental just wanna get extra money

Car thieves in Malaysia have gone high-tech, using device to unlock car with keyless entry Owners of cars using the keyless entry system are at risk of having their vehicles stolen in minutes by a frequencyhacking device that is available in Malaysia. The device, which costs about RM150 (S$50) and can be obtained online or at some electronics stores, can unlock a car and start its engine by hacking its radio frequency identification (RFID) information. Found KULAI, Johor: The two Singaporeans reported missing in Johor's Gunung Pulai forest reserve since Monday have been found. At about 11.20am on Thursday (Feb 8), Johor police said Mr Dominick Tan and Ms Clarice Lum Jie had been spotted by a helicopter at Ulu Choh Pontian, which is near a lake. The duo had said during a distress call earlier that they were near a body of water. my vehicle was direct front to back hit by a Msia Vehicle 6 mths ago... Police & orange Force arrived ( i am on ntuc insurance) , & i went to do a 3rd party claim one of ntuc authorized workshop say they will do the claim for me & proceed to do the repair work for me.. Now they called me saying they cannot find the msia insurance company & want me to do the following 1) Find the msia driver myself & take the money from them 2) Pay for my own damages for the repair which they had already completed. 3) Claim my own insurances. is it the right way to do it ? -
Volkswagen Owners Voice Grievances At Volkswagen Group Malaysia Headquarters Nearly 50 disgruntled Volkswagen owners gathered at the steps of Volkswagen Group Malaysia’s (VGM) headquarters in Bangsar earlier today to voice their complaints about the poor after sales experience and unreliability of their Volkswagen cars. Executives from the company were present at the lobby to listen to the complaints brought forth by the group. According to the co-organiser of the gathering, Ben Yeo, the group is demanding that VGM would be able to deliver a product that is safe and reliable, as well as improve their after sales service. “We feel cheated about the warranty and safety, a number of Volkswagen owners have had to change the engines and replace the clutch pack in their cars in the span of less than two years,” said Yeo. “Furthermore some of us had our warranty voided by the manufacturer due to minor overruns in the car’s service interval.” Co-organiser Leon Loke claims that his warranty for his Volkswagen Passat CC was voided for exceeding it service interval by a margin of around 1,000km. "A lot of customers including myself would have to book our cars in for service a month in advanced as there are no available slots for me to do so earlier," said Loke. Another owner who identified himself as Mr Low claims that his 2012 Volkswagen Polo 1.2 TSI has been experiencing a multitude of problems ranging from improper replacement parts to unsatisfactory repairs done by his car’s service centre. The group of owners also handed over a list of requests to the Volkswagen management. Their list of requests includes a warranty extension to 10 years for the engine and gearbox, and no voiding of the warranty for mileage overruns under the tolerance of 3,000km. “The reliability issues of the seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox are already acknowledged by Volkswagen in China and they have extended their warranty coverage to 10 years. We on the other hand are still left with a 5-year warranty coverage,” explained Yeo. “All we are asking for is a fair treatment from VGM.” The owner demonstration was started and organised on the “VW DSG 7 Defects Community” Facebook group. The group was started by disgruntled Volkswagen owners in May last year, and has so far attracted more than 2,000 followers to date. Yesterday VGM released a statement on steps the company would be taking to improve its after-sales service, whereas its new managing director, Christoph Aringer, is well aware of issues on reliability and after-sales service plaguing Volkswagen owners in Malaysia. According to Aringer, the company are already taking steps to address to improve the company’s after-sales support both in terms of customer care and warranty claims. Volkswagen says issues related to the 7-speed DSG transmission have already been addressed by last year's recall in Malaysia, and assures its customers that all new Volkswagen models are not affected by any transmission reliability issues. The after-sales grievances experienced by Volkswagen customers aren’t exclusive to the German brand. We would also like to point out that fast growing brands such as Ford and Peugeot also experienced similar customer complaints alluding to the lack of after-sales capacity during their period of growth a number of years back. With a fast growing number of new customers, an unprepared after-sales network would be easily overwhelmed by the higher number of customers looking to send their cars in for routine service. Only in the past few years did Ford and Peugeot managed to turn their situation around after expanding their service network and hiring better trained after-sales personnel to meet the needs of their new customers. The question of whether VGM would be able to finally address its customer complaints would depend on the company’s actions and its relationship with its network of dealers. Serious question, as a friend is in a current predicament, so was wondering if anyone knows of a good clinic/gynae in the three countries above that does abortion? Think my friend's gf just did a pregnacy test so tested positive. Anyone knows much about abortion and stuff that could advise? Also what are the cost incurred for these procedures? Was travelling home on the expressway, both kids are sleeping at the back so I only travelled at around 80km/h (lane 3). At one point, I was tailgated by a bus (imagine looking into your rearview mirror, and the whole back windscreen is blocked - you can only see the bus and its headlight, not even the sky). It is freaking SCARY and i seriously felt very threatened. If I needed to brake, I'm pretty sure it's gonna crash into me. So, I was glad when it finally buay tahan my slowness and went to lane 2 (around 8sec in video), and immediately the bike that was travelling there siam the imminent barrage.. It continued to chiong until it finally decided to go onto lane 1 (around 31sec in video). It's a Malaysian coach.. And I'm pretty sure that it's travelling at 100km/h or more. Is there a speed limit for all these buses? Not sure how you guys feel by watching the video, but for me, I really think it's an accident waiting to happen. I AM POSTING ON BEHALF OF HWZ MEMBER "SPELL" Rear ended by Msia car, driver drove off!! On 6th Dec about 550pm, was driving along PIE towards Jurong on lane 3, almost reaching the slip road to BKE. All of a sudden, a Msia car (Proton Wira WJM373) swerved from the 2nd lane to behind me & banged me real hard. I noticed him from my rear wheel mirror because the traffic was very slow & I happen to see the mirror. My bluetooth earpiece got flung out from my ear, pillow on seat flung to front, spectacle case in compartment got flung out.. etc, luckily I did not bang the car in front. I was like stunned for at least 5 seconds before I recovered my senses. To keep long story short, I got down, saw the other driver, he said he was at fault & he said a few times that we should go make report. he was alone & I was alone. I took out my phone & took a few photos, then called my family to arrange to pick up my kids as I'll definitely be late. My rear bumper & rear hatch door stucked, exhaust pipe dislodged onto the road. His car front bumper dented & bonnet had popped up. I never expect his car to be able to move far. While talking on my phone, the driver said he will drive to side of road because causing obstruction, then discuss next course of action. After finish talking on my phone (less than a min) I turned around & realise that car is no where in sight at the road side !! Really buay steady I called up our friendly neighbourhood police centre, ask if they can help me keep a lookout for this car. Guess what, he told me to just go neighbourhood police post make report. I told him that car could have gone past the causeway by then, he told me TP will follow up. I give up. Next day I made a police report, was told TP will investigate (which I'm not even sure they will read the report at all), report at my insurance reporting centre etc. I was told at the reporting centre that most workshop in SG do not do 3rd party claims if the other party is Msia car, because very hard to claim from them even if we not at fault. Why so unfair to us? Furthermore in my case I do not have the other party particulars. I can only hope that driver will report to his insurance & our local police, though all else point to him purposely driving off shirking responsibility. Should I post this in EDMW, stomp, mycarforum or even Lowyat forum, maybe someone will recognise or know the driver. Hi Need advice on the following. Wanted to go to Msia via 2nd link today. Very bad jam from Tuas to Msia checkpoint. Was in jam from. 11-215pm. My young kids were screaming and crying as they were restless and hungry. I made a U turn back to Spore after clearing Msia outgoing immigration without a stamp chop at incoming Msia immigration. There was a U turn sign showing "Singapura." Was that signage for the purposes of making a turn back to Spore? I managed to clear ICA immigration. Any issues since my records at Msia would show that I'm still in Msia but in actual fact I'm in Spore? If there are issues what shd I do?

Our car after 10 years only left PARF. No much value for the body. If I can fetch much more if sell in Msia ,why not ? Anybody have this experience how to go about it ? What are the potential problem ?

This mrn abt 11am while I was on my way back to Sg. At the traffice light just before the Msia CIQ, I was the 1st car stopping on the left lane at that Traffic Light junction. When the light turned green, a Msian car on my right proceeded. I heard a "THUG SOUND" and realised that a Msian CB aunty driving a small car looks like a KANCIL chiong red light. The car on my right wacked the left side of that small car. I witness the accident. Luckily for me, I was not in a rush or else I became the victim, macam the FERRARI accident at Bugis junction. How I wished the impact was much greater and the aunty UP LORRY. Lesson learned, while driving esp in Bolehland. Whilst at junction being the 1st car, be patient and dun chiong cos most Msian drivers dun obey traffic signals. If that accident happened here in Sg, I will sure be a witness.
