  2. BERLIN - Maxi is seven years old. If he were a person, not a cat, he would be a young-looking guy in his mid-40s. Thomas, a student in Hanover, adopted Maxi from an animal shelter, and loves Maxi so much that he found the money for a kidney transplant when his four-pawed pal would otherwise have died. The whole thing cost Thomas 15,000 euros [about $20,000], including the flight to the United States, where the operation took place. http://globalpublicsquare.blogs.cnn.com/20...pet/?hpt=hp_mid Personal experience: recently, our child's pet rabbit cant eat or drink and went into renal failure stayed in animal hospital for 5 days had x-rays, supportive treatment, dental treatment the entire episode cost us: $2500 the rabbit was a rescue rabbit (she was picked up and had skin disease which we treated and cost us about $1200 two years ago) so where do we draw the line? any opinion?

  10. Most expensive prata in S'pore at Esplanade: $12 for 2 STOMPer Royal says he was charged $12 for two roti pratas with egg at the Esplanade's Makansutra. He feels this was just too much of a mark-up, even if it was during the F1. The STOMPer wrote: "Yesterday during the F1 race, I went to Makansutra at the Esplanade to have dinner. "I know that prices are inflated during the F1 and that's quite normal, but the Indian store selling roti prata was really ridiculous. "I went to the prata store and asked for two egg pratas. He told me then that they would cost $12. "I was like, are you kidding? I then asked if it was a set meal with additional items? "He said it was just the prata and curry and said one prata costs six bucks. I looked at him and told him I was not interested and cancelled my order. "I don't mind paying extra since its the F1 and understand that prices would be inflated, but come on -- six bucks for a piece of dough with an egg? "The guy just looked at me sheepishly and grinned. He probably thinks locals do not know the market rate of roti prata. "Are they trying to make enough to retire during the F1?"

  16. Hi guys, have a question in determining if a used car is worth it's price. The calculation that come straight out of my head now when calculating a used car value is: (New car price - current COE value - OMV value) / 10 * number of years left in COE. The result from that calculation will then be compared to the used car selling price and the difference will then be compared to the current COE price (pro rate to the respective year left), and if the value is less than the current COE price I will think it is worth it. Is that correct? Also I heard that a car depreciate much faster in the first few years, which means that my concept above is totally wrong, if that's the case, how should I determine if a used car is worth it? Thanks!
  17. Blonde & woman driver http://www.heraldsun.com.au/lifestyle/the-...6-1226103341664 The $1m car crash (it involves a blonde, five very expensive cars and Monte Carlo) A parade of some of the world's most expensive cars turned into a demolition derby after a driver scraped her $370, 000 Bentley against a $111,000 Mercedes S class. The woman's 2.7 tonne beast then went on to plough into a $207,000 black Ferrari F430 before crashing head-on into a Porsche 911 worth $118,000 and a $207,000 Aston Martin. The total value of the cars involved in the bingle is $1.02 million. The driver and her two passengers were circled by hundreds of tourists after the pile-up, unable to open their car doors. The cost of repairs is expected to reach around $60,000.

  21. There is an article in 6 July TODAY on the successful and popular public transport system in a Scandanavian country where trains and buses are the main mode of transport for the people without the use of COEs to deter and control car ownership. The report says, to achieve this, the government in that country has put in $23 billion in the past 20yrs++ for public transport infra structure. Lets check if sgp govt has the same amount of money to do the same.... lets say if govt use the accumulated COEs collection to spend on infra structure for public transport, how many years of COEs collection is needed to afford $23b infra structure? For each series of car number plate, there are 9999 cars, if the average COE price is say 20k, this means $199,980,000, say $200m. From 2006 till today, we have SGL, SGM, SGN, SGP, SGQ, SGR, SGS, SGT, SGU SGV, SGW, SGX, SGY, SGZ, SJA, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, J, K, L , M, N, P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, X.... about 38 series of number plates in 6 years. Total "revenue" from COEs sales by govt = $200m x 38 = $7,600m!! (2006 to 2011) this is enough to build a good public transport system over a 16-18 years period (to collect sufficient COE fees) comparable to that in Scandanavia.
