  1. Just wonder how many still stick with the format of using dialect name for your kids whom your parents gave you when you were young like Tan Lee Hoon, Yeo Kok Choon etc. I know some of my friend still use like Tan Guoping, Yeo Huimin etc. Or... you totally change your Tan to Chen or Lim to Lin for your kid? For me, I am still using the dialect format. Reason is I wanna people to differentiate my kids from the FT or PR.

  3. The original British Mini is something of an icon all around the world, and with good reason. The little runabout combined such praiseworthy virtues as small size and light weight, incredibly efficient front-wheel-drive packaging and a good dose of fun-to-drive enjoyment all in one relatively inexpensive machine that also managed to look pretty darn good. So small was the seminal design from Sir Alec Issigonis that it was given the name Mini by its makers, the British Motor Corporation. So, when the marque was picked up by BMW when it acquired the ailing Rover brand, you'd expect that the next-gen Mini would also be... well, mini. And it is, sort of. When parked next to nearly any modern car this side of a Smart Fortwo, the modern Mini is indeed pretty darn small. Each successive vehicle from the reborn brand, though, has upped the size ante just a wee bit, from the Cooper to the Clubman to the not-yet-released Countryman. And when you park a Countryman next to the original 1959 Morris Mini Minor, as was recently done by the fine chaps at Auto Express, the size disparity is blatantly obvious. See for yourself.
  4. Ross Brawn has revealed that he is "happier" now than when he was solely in charge of a team bearing his own name. In the wake of Honda's shock exit at the end of 2008, the Briton and a group of team management took over and won last year's title. But for 2010, Brawn GP was bought out to become Mercedes's new works team, with the 55-year-old staying on board as team principal. Brawn's passion and focus has always been on the engineering side, and he told the Financial Times this week: "To perform in the best possible way, I'm happier not being the majority shareholder." He said he only ever owned the team "by default", and while able to run the highly-competitive chassis designed with Honda's huge resources, was financed only by the Japanese marque's parting EUR2 million gift. Brawn explained that F1 teams usually work "to a budget that is guaranteed two to three years ahead. "But here I was in a situation where there was no budget. You had to do as well as you could and make the company as viable as possible while spending the minimum amount of money doing it." Source: GMM

It's good to see a user's date of joining so as can see whether his/her post holds some weight(although not much, haha). I know can see the "Date joined" by clicking that user's profile page, but it is quite troublesome.. Can bring it back?

They should call it CCB instead of CCIB New police unit for casino crimes CCIB will also work closely with Casino Regulatory Authority The Singapore Police Force (SPF) has created a new unit dedicated to investigating casino-related criminal offences. Called the Casino Crime Investigation Branch (CCIB), the unit has a staff of between 20 and 30 and falls under the umbrella of the Specialised Crime Division of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the SPF. Casino-related criminal offences expected to fall under CCIB's watch include forgery, counterfeiting and unlawful interference with gaming equipment. Speaking at the official launch of the CCIB, Acting Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ng Joo Hee highlighted that casinos are 'inherently corrosive environments'. He added: 'Left to themselves, casinos naturally invite vice, loan-sharking, drug dealing, money-laundering, theft, fraud, cheating, and are bright shiny targets for organised crime.' He also said: 'Our aim must be to set a new high-water mark for the successful policing of large casino resorts.' The CCIB has been five years in the making. ACP Ng said that CID has been learning from other international gaming jurisdictions. 'Tight operational coordination with other police units, Home Team partners, other law enforcement and casino operators have been established and are now firmly in place,' he said. The unit will be headed by Superintendent Michael Ang, formerly director of security at The Venetian Macao-Resort Hotel in Macau. Mr Ang also served in various postings within SPF perviously including: Head, Secret Societies Branch; Head, Investigation, Bedok Police Division; and Assistant Director, Bomb and Explosives Investigation Division, CID. CCIB has been operational since July 2009. In preparation for the opening of the casinos at the integrated resorts, CCIB has been training its officers who have gone for overseas training and conferences in Las Vegas, Australia and Macau, among others. In Singapore, CCIB will also work closely with the Casino Regulatory Authority.

  18. Hi folks sorry got a rather trivial question here. I have recently inserted my Christian name to my IC and passport. So I had a name change from 'Tan Ah Kow' to 'Peter Tan Ah Kow'. Problem is, I need to book air tickets for myself. I understand that airlines are very particular that the name must match the passport holder's name. So shd I book my tickets as: First name: Peter Last name: Tan OR First name: Peter Last name: Tan Ah Kow OR First name: Peter Ah Kow Last name: Tan OR ???? This is getting me very confused. Hope someone who has experience can help. Tks in advance. =)
  19. Off Peak means they shouldn't add to the number of vehicles during peak hours! OPC needs a time tuning? Such cars shouldn't contributes into our traffic jams. Currently, these red-plated cars can be used only from 7pm to 7am on weekdays, and after 3pm on Saturdays, and for the full day on Sundays and public holidays. Why not let these cars have full Saturdays and Sundays but reduce the weekdays timing from 9pm to 7am? Be fair...
