  1. Woman attacked in park near NUS Carolyn Quek and Sujin Thomas Fri, Jun 20, 2008 The Straits Times POLICE cordoned off a construction site in Clementi on Thursday and took blood samples from about 200 foreign workers hours after a woman was sexually assaulted in a nearby park. The victim, believed to be a National University of Singapore student in her mid-20s, was attacked on Wednesday night at around 10.40pm. It is believed that she was set upon while walking on a footpath through the Clementi Woods Park, which is just opposite the university. While the police would not comment on the nature of the offence, The Straits Times understands that the Special Operations Command (SOC) was activated. The unit is used to maintain public and during tactical operations, among other things. Read the full story in Friday's edition of The Straits Times. Security getting worse..........pls take care of your ladies and loved ones. I fear the victim here was r***d. Hope not...........
  2. Was travelling on PIE towards Jurong East at about noon on Lane 2 after Eng Neo Exit. Traffic was light on Lane 3 and 4. Lane 1 empty. I remembered went past a TP talking to a motorcylist at the shoulder. After I went past them, I can see some traffic cones on the road, Lane 1. I saw a car coming from behind some distance away on the rear view mirror. Then the next he was not there. Shortly he was coming alongside on my right. Its a MPV. We were approaching the traffic cones with some 25 metres away. The MPV decided to floor his accelerator, went past me and cut into Lane 2, my lane. I gave a honk at him. I did not see any acknowledgement from the driver. From here the MPV filtered into Lane 4 towards BKE. I tried to follow but he was darn fast. Then when I thought he's going to proceed to BKE, he decided to filtered back to PIE and went onto Lane 1. Did he go to the Woodland Road exit or onwards to Jurong? I don't know - I did not want to chase cos if the TP is behind me, I am dead. I caught a glimpse of the MPV - its gold or light color. It bears S??11?
  3. http://newpaper.asia1.com.sg/news/story/0,...,167510,00.html? Thought the major was wrong to headbutt the doctor, the other driver got off scot-free. If the major's wife had suffered a miscarriage, this driver should be charged with manslaughter. Hope she has learned her lesson and not think she is the 'queen of the road'
  4. Just witness a near accident on my way home. Whose fault is it? http://www.daddyhobby.com/gallery/data/500..._n_Wish_001.wmv

  6. Source: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/afp.../348308/1/.html Posted: 17 May 2008 0645 hrs NEW YORK - Oil rocketed to a new high near 128 dollars a barrel in New York Friday after a key investment bank hiked its forecast, adding to buying fervor. Goldman Sachs, the most active investment bank in energy markets, predicted a jump to 141 dollars for the second half of the year for crude. After peaking at a record 127.98 dollars, New York's main oil futures contract, light sweet crude for June delivery, closed at an all-time high of 126.29 dollars, up 2.17 dollars from Thursday's close. In London, Brent crude contract for June spiked to an all-time high of 126.34 dollars, before settling at 124.99, up 2.36 dollars. Goldman Sachs, which was one of the first in the market to call for crude prices to hit 100 dollars a barrel back in 2005, argued that global gross domestic product (GDP) growth will continue to outstrip oil production increases, pushing prices higher. It hiked its forecast to 141 dollars a barrel, from 107 dollars. "To balance trend global GDP growth of 3.8 percent against trend supply growth of 1.0 percent, prices need to rise on average 14 percent from here in the second half of 2008," the bank said in a research note, adding that "resource protectionism" by many oil-producing countries was curbing supply growth. Earlier this month, a Goldman Sachs analyst predicted prices could hit between 150 and 200 dollars a barrel over the next two years. Oil prices also were underpinned Friday by speculation about a rise in oil imports to China, the second-largest energy consumer after the United States. "Indications are PetroChina will boost imports because of the powerful earthquake in Sichuan. Supplies in the region are very tight, pipelines running there are operating at reduced capacity, and backup generators are needed to help make up for the loss of some power generation capacity," said Eric Wittenauer at Wachovia Securities. The market shrugged off the announcement that the US is suspending shipments to its strategic oil reserve for the second half of the year after Congress passed a bill calling for the halt in a bid to ease prices. The move affects up to 13 million barrels of crude oil. Meanwhile, US President George W. Bush, visiting Saudi Arabia, pressed the oil-rich kingdom to increase output to help cool runaway prices that are weighing on US and other countries' economic growth. Saudi Arabia's oil minister, Ali al-Nuaimi, told reporters the kingdom has increased oil production by 300,000 barrels per day from May 10 in response to orders from customers, mostly from the United States, and will pump 9.45 million barrels per day in June. Saudi Arabia is the biggest producer in the 13-nation Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, which pumps 40 percent of the world's oil. Oil prices have surged some 25 percent since the start of 2008, when they crossed 100 dollars a barrel for the first time. "The global oil market remains indeed structurally tight," said Victor Shum, an analyst with energy consultancy Purvin and Gertz in Singapore. "Even though demand growth is showing some weakness, supply growth is also not there. OPEC continues to restrain supply and production in non-OPEC states are not expected to be strong." On Thursday, OPEC trimmed its 2008 estimate of world oil demand growth, citing higher prices and slower economic momentum in major industrialized countries including the United States. Global oil demand was projected to grow by 1.35 percent in 2008, compared with a previous estimate of 1.4 percent, OPEC said in a monthly survey. - AFP /ls

  9. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-642615101667802281 I nice cool morning drive. Motorcycle on my left. Road was wet. This daring taxi charged right up to the motorcyclist backside and wanted to side-swipe me. No choice I had to swerve my car alittle bit to the right to let this speeding taxi thru. Ok...I horned and flashed to show my displeasure to the taxi driver. Thinking all is well and ok....the journey continues.....then I spot this same taxi driver....near Tiong Bahru.......and I guessed taxi also saw me from his rear view mirror.
  10. Hi, Thinking of buying a resale 3rm flat near Parents. (around 230k) Reason for buying: - getting married next year. - the cheaper price compared to a bigger unit will give me more cash on hand, which i can use for renovation, wedding, etc. - near parents. - option of selling the 3rm flat after few years if property prices drop. (most prob will not be taking any grants from hdb, so i do not need to wait for years before i can sell) Anything I should take note of before i commit to the purchase? First time buying a flat so need advise from the more experienced :) Thanks!!

  13. Around 11pm, me and wife decided to go for supper (after 4 kids have slept). Left Hougang Central and head towards CTE. Around 11:15pm, stop on the center lane along Hougang Ave 2 & Ave 8 junction as traffic light is red for me. Light turn green and suddenly a old uncle start to cycle along the pedestrian crossing from my left, I stop and quickly take a quick glance at my right side mirror. A red Mz3 on my right lane wasn't slowing down when approaching the junction, I quickly blast my horn (2 pairs of Steble Magnum + 1 stock disc = 5 horns) at the uncle cyclist and he stop momentary and lucky wasn't knock down my the Red Mz3. Before I move off, I shouted to the uncle in hokkien "uncle, red light don't cross, uncle, very dangerous ah!!!" here is the video taken from my N95 and just to let you all know, the handphone is mounted on a holder all the time when I drive.

  16. in the light of fatal accidents and perhaps sometimes unexplained reasons, my friend related to me an incident last weekend he had while driving at upper pierce (former race track) at around 9pm. It was a series of bends and he was driving his 1 month old vios with his wife. It was the shortest route for him thats why he used that road. As he was approaching the final bend leading to the exit, his brakes failed. He stepped the brake pedal vigorously but nothing happened. He couldnt use engine brake as its auto. He continued stepping and thankfully, just before he was about to hit a boulder, the ABS kicked in and the car came to a halt. this incident certainly felt spooky to me. i've driven there a few times but it was daytime. But my friend said he once saw someone walking alone at night and his friend who was driving, missed the sighting. i've since heard quite abit about the place. i'm not superstitious but i guess those who drive there can take extra precaution and drive slowly. i guess my friend luckily drove rather slow that night and the electronics didnt fail. in any case, im just glad he escaped any injury.
  17. Yes to the aunty driving the silver altis along Jln Bt Merah yesterday ard noon. you were stationary along the extreme right trying to make a turn as most of us waiting in the Q. all lovey and dovey, i really have to hand it to you. you made a U turn (not illegal) but doing at a time when the motorbike was driving along the opposite side along with another on coming car. 19. My new work place is in tuas and in between two shipyards. Worried about sandblasting bits. Can those be removed by using a claybar? I have seen people covering their cars with those car covers. Automotive shops sells them between $24 to $100. Are those effective? Some friends say that it is better to not cover their car as these covers causes scratches. Any advice except it may be troublesome keeping when it rains?
