  5. Dear All – Hope all is well. It has been a while since I start a new thread. I need some advices on tyre change. I have sleepless nights. I am currently driving a manual Avante 1.6L car. Just this Saturday (4th May) I just changed my 2 old tyres (Kumho) installed in the front, to 2 new one (BFGoodRich Advantage T/A) My previous Kumho was changed on 11 July 2015 at a Mileage or 39800km Last Saturday 4th May 2019, I went to one workshop to request for a tyre rotation service because last November when I went to Komoco to service, they refuse to rotate for me because they told me my Kumho tyres are getting bald head (BOTAK), 2 words from them "NO POINT". In the end under Mechanic’s advice last Saturday (in Bukit Merah Lane), I changed Kumho to BFGoodRich. Kind of confused why need to change now and I cannot find any good review on BFGOODRICH! Per last Saturday, my car Mileage read 79285km (Means my Kumho ran for 39485km approximately. Now the configuration of my Avante is 2 Front tyres is a pair of BFGoodRich 2018 and 2 Back Tyres is a pair of Michelin 2012 (Changed before I change Kumho) My Question now is Is it necessary to change my Back Tyres to a pair of new one? Should I use back BFGoodRich? The threading still left a lot to use. Is Michelin brand. Hence I just want to confirm can we use a 7 years old Tyres? I went to Sin Ming one of the Motor shop to request to change BFGoodRich from front to back so that I want to wear off the Michelin pair when I put them in front, Uncle told me he refused to change because Michelin ones are 2012. He told me his has a strong principle being a professional car mechanic, what happen if after he changed and then my car got into accident? May I know what are my options? I have sleepless nights after I changed to BFGoodRich. Because I intend to change all four to GoodYear which I have been researching for months that Good Year are fuel efficient tyres. Option1: Change Michelin to BFGoodRich? Option2: remain same configuration under COE ends? Option3: Change all 4 tyres to GoodYear? Option4: Sell my car now and get a 7 seater? My COE ending 2020 May next year. Mileage done is still less 80k. one Full Tank 45L I can clock 700km per 1 pump of 95. I only drive on Sat and Sun. Mine is a OPC. Thank you.
  6. May I ask advise from any Axio drivers year 2008 for NZE141? Q: This model fan motor only turns when you switch on the aircon right? When the aircon is not switch on, the fan motor doesn't rotate at all. Is your Axio works the same ? Unlike my previous old car corolla & corolla, even when aircon is not on, the fan motor automatically switch on when the radiator becomes hotter and hotter It will cools down the raidator thanks alot

  8. hmmmmmmm sth brewing? @tianmo https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/a-level-results-students-apply-polytechnic-skip-semester-courses-11245456 Singapore A-Level results out next Friday; graduates who opt for polytechnics can skip semester image: data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw== File photo of students at Singapore Polytechnic. (Photo: TODAY) 15 Feb 2019 11:22AM (Updated: 15 Feb 2019 12:21PM) Share this content BookmarkSINGAPORE: The results of the GCE A-Level examinations will be released next Friday (Feb 22), the Ministry of Education (MOE) said on Friday. Students may collect their results from their schools from 2.30pm on that day, while private candidates will be notified of their results by post. The ministry also announced on Friday that A-Level graduates who choose to further their studies at polytechnics can now skip the first semester for more than 100 courses. Currently, most A-Level graduates apply for and enrol in a polytechnic only one year after getting their results. This is because most polytechnic admissions exercises would have closed by the time the A-Level results are announced. READ: O-Level grades will no longer form part of admission scores for Poly grads applying to NUS, NTU from 2020From Academic Year 2019, eligible A-Level graduates can be admitted directly to Year 1 Semester 2 each October for 110 polytechnic courses, up from the current nine. This will reduce their polytechnic course from three years to two-and-a-half years. Advertisement The 110 courses make up about half the diploma courses offered by the five polytechnics, and span several course clusters. “A-Level graduates who are not enlisting in National Service will be able to enter the polytechnics in the same year that they receive their A-Level results. As a result, this group will be able to graduate one year earlier,” MOE said. image: https://www.channelnewsasia.com/image/11245562/0x0/819/511/72007b68a9c769b719a86efa69bb462d/Df/polytechnic-admission-for-a-level-infographic.jpg Source: Ministry of Education Interested A-Level graduates will be able to apply to the polytechnics directly for these 110 courses in mid-August, for matriculation at the start of AY2019 Semester 2 in October this year. More details will be available on the respective polytechnics’ websites by March 2019. 200 A-LEVEL GRADUATES ENROL IN POLYTECHNICS ANNUALLY Places for A-Level graduates will be separately catered for, and there will be no impact on the number of places for O-Level graduates or ITE graduates, MOE said. "The number of places for A-Level graduates will depend on the demand from and quality of applicants, and hence will vary from year to year," it said. According to the ministry, about 200 A-Level graduates are admitted each year to the five local polytechnics – Nanyang, Ngee Ann, Republic, Singapore and Temasek. "These are students who are keen to pursue an applied pathway at the polytechnics, that matches their area of interest or aptitude," it said, adding that the number includes both A-Level graduates who have applied and those who did not apply to the local universities. READ: Better pay, job prospects for polytechnic graduates in 2018: SurveyFor most polytechnic courses, A-Level graduates would need passes in two relevant H2 subjects to receive module exemptions. These requirements may differ for specific courses. Courses which offer module exemption have "sufficient commonalities" between the A-Level and polytechnic curriculums, MOE said. The exemptions are mostly for polytechnic foundational modules, and students would have covered similar curriculum in preparing for the A-Levels. For example, A-Level graduates in Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s Diploma in Information Technology may be exempted from the modules on Computing Mathematics and Programming 1 if they have passed H2 Computing or Computing Science, and H2 Mathematics. Similarly, A-Level graduates in Temasek Polytechnic’s Common Engineering Programme may be exempted from the modules on Engineering Mathematics 1, Engineering Physics, Digital Fundamentals 1 and Circuit Analysis if they have passed H2 Mathematics and H2 Physics. 10. Want to buy a car. Found a good deal, but the dealership is 2 far from me. I can transfer a car to my area, but not ready to visit the dealership several times, have no time. They sent me a vehicle history report, pretty good grades. Tons of car photos and one short video. Also my brother in law bought there a 2010 Tacoma, didn't complain (but they moved so he can't help). Now a dealership offers me to test drive a car online via some app called LVS. I want to try because driving 200 miles for a test drive - no thanks. I think I can get necessary info from an online test drive, at least I could hear how engine works and stuff. Has anyone had such an experience? Is it safe and modern or I've lost my mind? Thanks in advance!
  11. Hi all taxi uncles or aunties, i am in need (desperately) for advice on how to make a little bit more using taxi share under smrt? Last time i can earn about $12 per hr after deducted rental and fuel. I started to drive again as i kenna fired by company again. Averagely i earn around 6 to 7 dollars per hour. Yesterday was the worst, i earned only $15 for the 10 hours booking. Not much calls from smrt call booking. like 10 hours 1 call. When about to accept after checking how to go, people take already. So i do only street hires. Anyhow Drive for 10km to 20km round ans round the estate only 1 passenger go to short trip $4.58. Not sure Want to laugh or cry. Din install grab because taxi share always different car plate number. Any master here? I like to meet you and buy you coffee hope you can share with me some advice. I am not giving up yet. I only set a very low expectation As long as can breakeven i am fine. Smrt per hour rental was very high. I hope other taxi company can come.out this flexi scheme too. I am a very hard working driver. I usually eat bread inside car to beat time. I only step out to go toilet only. No time to lose. Thank you.
  12. Hello all! I am about to buy a truck. Not sure which one yet but it will definitely be one of Fords. I want to stay on budget, so I am thinking of buying used. And I'm not sure will I be shopping private-party or at a dealership but it's good to know what you'll get — and what you won't so I want to do a mechanical inspection and a vehicle history report. I know that a report isn't going to guarantee I'm getting a good used vehicle, however I think it's a good start for used-car shopping. I want to compare the results of those two checks out of curiosity. Can someone recommend good and not very expensive vehicle inspection software? I know that there is Carfax but their reports are pretty pricey: one for $39.99, three for $79.99, and five for $99.99. I was recommended these two apps, have someone tried them: UVIScan and VIR ? anyway, thanks for any contribution and Happy New Year to all! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that in 2019 Dotard Trump won't throw a lot of fits.

  14. Don't worry, we are not making it compulsory for all to adopt a dog, or crowdfund to build a bridge, but just something very simple, and doable by most, if not all MCFers. Of late, it have came to our attention that makan thread has been showcasing non-edible stuff, hobby thread slowly transforming into an advertising platform, piak piak and vulgarities becoming a norm in almost every other thread, and even cat fight going on in a thread created for pet lovers. 18. Dear friends I will be looking to replace some tires and the 205/55/R16 is one of the most popular around, and there are a plethora of choices, from the most budget, all the way to the more exotic. I am looking to spend under $130 for a tire which has a balance of comfort, noise control and safety. These are the current candidates under consideration: Continental: CPC 5 ~ $115-130 (sadly the CPC 6 doesn't seem to be made for 16" tires) Pirelli Pirelli Cinturato P7 Bridgestone The new Bridgestone Turanza T005A ~ $120-$130 looks very interesting as an alternative to the GR 100 Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance? Michelin Primacy 3 / PS 4 ~ $120 Some recent tests: http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/2018-ADAC-Summer-Tyre-Test-205-55-R16.htm I hope to get some ideas from friends here.. thanks! Some ideas on my needs: I typically keep to the speed limits, but will do runs up north on the NSH, and in SG, do a lot of town driving, and am looking to replace some Goodyear RFTs.. cheers :) The CPC 5 looks pretty promising and is mentioned in a few reviews: http://www.tirereviews.info/reviews-and-tests/summer-tires/r16-summer-tires/8-2018-summer-tire-test-results-205-55-r16

  20. I signed a sales agreement to purchase a Carens on 24th February 2018 at KIA Fulco Ubi. It was a display model and I received a generous $2000 discount for it. It was a July 2017 model, so I reckoned that it has been in the showroom for at least 8 months already. The next day, I went to KIA Alexandra to view the car. The car is full of stickers but I didn’t mind since the $2000 discount was generous. Before signing the agreement, the salesperson assured me once COE is secured they will remove the car from the showroom immediately. He claimed the registration process would be faster if I buy this display car since the car is already in the showroom. Sounded good to me. COE was secured more than 2 weeks ago on the 21st of March 2018. After being told that the COE was secured, I informed him that I hoped to get the car within 7-10 days. He told me that it is not possible as KIA was flooded with a lot of new registrations. He said he could deliver the car on 10th April at the earliest. The disappointing thing was that there had been no updates from the salesperson since 21st March. Since there is a lack of update and it’s already 7th April, I decided to take a trip to KIA Alexandra this morning to see if the car is still in the showroom. To my surprise, I saw the car still displayed in the showroom! Now, the car has more stickers than usual and has a lot of unsightly marks from previous stickers. Also, for the whole duration I was there, the lights were switched on. Sigh, God knows what will happen to the battery. I informed the salesperson of my disappointment. I told him that he had promised me that the car will be out of the showroom once COE is secured but the car is still there! It seems to me that they were intentionally delaying to deliver the car because they want to continue to use it as a display model. Looking at the state of the car now, it seemed to be in a more “abused” condition than when I saw the car on the 25th February. I wished I was informed about this issue earlier. Personally, with my dealings with businesses, I try to be understanding as much as possible. To be honest, I won’t mind if the car is still on display for one extra weekend since I understand that they need some time to get a replacement car.....but putting the car on display for another 3 extra weekends without telling me is just unethical. I think they were simply taking their chances that I would never find out. I am very disappointed that an AD is capable of lying and deceiving a customer like that. I was hoping for a small and kind compensation since my car was unnecessarily “abused” for a further unnecessary 3 weeks but their response was just a “sorry, we will take out your car from the showroom after this weekend. You should know that you are buying a display car. If you want a new car, get a new car.” Such an amazing response. I wish to seek advice if there are any recourse I could take. For one, I can go to CASE to lodge a formal complaint. Also, is it possible for me to get back my deposit if I refuse to buy the car in its current state? I understand that the TCOE will expire in 6 months. Hope you can offer me some advice. :)
  21. LHL says no need for opposition since most of the population supports the PAP and they have put in Non-Constituency MP in today's ST report http://www.straitstimes.com/politics/not-wise-to-purposely-let-the-opposition-grow-bigger-says-pm Are these Non-Constituency MP what people want other than those participated in the election and how have they performed? Is a one party that has been debated over the years still what people want? Is the idea of not to "purposely" let the opposition grow bigger being the same as making sure they don't grow? How are we going to get another voice in the parliament? If you have most of the resolutions passed in parliament with almost 100% yes, we need to review why then some of these decisions failed. All that have voted yes are not thinking enough or simply complying. Mr Lee also stressed the importance of thinking boldly, and long-term yesterday. The thinking must start from the top not bottom up. Any thoughts?
  22. http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/transport/hondajet-soars-with-wrong-over-the-wing-engine-design It's fast, it's jet power and you don't need a COE :) No Honda Sensing, many blind spots and no reverse sensors! Oh this is even worse than a Jazz or City - no airbags! But it's the fastest Honda you can buy ;) It's only a five seater, but it goes up to 486 mph and the FC is the best in class... Well it can go 1408 mils without refuelling... Only 5mil...
  23. MY current situation is abit complicated. So I just want to know if the options I'm considering is it feasible. Due to personal issue, I need to change my current car, which is quite new. Problem is I don't want to fork out too much for the new, so I'm considering a downgrade. Current drive, Honda Vezel 1.5X petrol. Less than 3 years old. Out standing loan around 30k. Market valuation is 64 to 69K. Wish to change to either New Kia K3 at 73,999 or 2nd hand MPV of similar value (E.g Wish, Sienta, Etc). Main issue is because I need to change ownership of current car, and can't change unless loan is settle. So only way is to change the car to clear current loan, and get another new loan. Is this move feasible in terms of monetary means. How much do I tend to lose from doing such move?
  24. Hi all Newbie here, Pardon my boldness since im asking for help already. my Chevrolet aveo 1.4A ls 2009 engine light came on. Did a diagnose via Torque app and found out error code P0420.
