  2. Hi Guys I am a newbie, know nuts about cars. Due to far workplace from one end of island to the end, I got no choice but to consider buying an used car. This is my friend's account, saw this car like not bad coz fits my low budget. http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.php?ID=403346&DL=2276 Can you guys please help to assess to see if it is good buy or recommend any cars that is on sale which you think is a good buy. Many thanks in advance.
  3. Hi, I need some advices on help to identifying the problem for my car... Recently I realised that my car tends to vibrate as im quite sensitive to abnormal noise and vibration on my car. This vibration will only appears when I travel at 90km/h and if I reach 100 is more obvious. The vibrations can be felt from the floor board. When I'm traveling slow at maybe 40km/h, I feel the force back like those arcade steering wheel. That means u need to relax and not hold tight. U can feel the steering wheel turning left and right mildly. Try to imagine as is really hard to put it in words. My suspect is the warping of the rim but I wana hear if there are any bigger issues as I took leave tomorrow and wanted to solve this by tomorrow. I just don't feel good and hope it won't escalate to a much bigger issue. Thks
  4. Hihi, see these 6-edge star screws in the attached pic, it's at the B-Pillar to hold the mechanism for the lock on the car door to latch. It's now loose, any ideas where to get such screw drivers? Or if most workshops will have the screws to help screw back?

  6. Hi Guys, To cut things short, my parent's maid ran away after working for one day. She left the house approx. yesterday's afternoon 3PM while i was in the room. Leaving a note telling us that she can't work with us, her letter before she come working for us stated that she only take care of kids and she can't tahan my grandma's scolding. 1.) Levy already paid 2.) Agency already paid 3.) Runaway maid insurance already paid 4.) Normal insurance for maid already paid 5.) Work permit already in process I already made a police report filing all information's/details about this maid. I have also called up the maid agency and have to wait for their call if the maid return to them. However, i have some concerns on the above. This maid is a transferred maid. She held WP from her ex-employer and not us. Her WP for working with us is still in the process. She officially work for us yesterday although she came on Wednesday night to take over/learn how to take care of my grandma until last Saturday my previous maid last day. If the runaway maid return to agency, will i get the refund on levy, agent fees, insurance fee? I also understand from a friend that maid cannot start working w/o a valid working permit. But previously, all my maid came to our place to work first and only after a week then their WP reaches us. If maid agency refuses to refund us on the insurance, agent fee and levy, what should i do? First of all, we did not force the agency for a quick maid to take over although we did state that we urgently need one as my previous maid is sick, last day and work permit expire on last Saturday. The agency also knew that we are looking for a maid that take care of elderly but the agency insist this runaway maid is good (show us recommendation letter from previous employer) and capable of living/taking care of my grandma. Can i counter sue/complaint that the agency recommended this runaway maid? And lastly, the chances of refunding will be high or low? I understand that agency has the rights NOT to refund any single sum. It's so frustrating as this is the first time i encountered this kinda problem. Thank you guys for the advices!

  8. Hi All I need advised I just bought a 2nd hand car at a car dealer shop but im not aware that the car has a modified exhaust. So 2 month later i was stop by an lta office and told me that my exhaust was modified. The exhaust sound so not loud at all so i asume that it was the air filter as it was knn. After telling the the lta officer, he still want to summon me on the exhaust. I change everything by the next day and when for an inspection and pass. I also have call the car dealer shop and explain but was told to apeal.(choice auto at mekenzie rd) no after service at all. After the apeal the summon was reduce from 500 to 200$. Should i apeal again? As to me i was not my fault. only by the lta officer told me than i know i have a modified exhaust if not only the yearly inspection then i know. Can lta waived all the fine or only still reduce or add back to 500$? If i apeal again. Please advised Thanks Fizzi
  9. Hihi, my 2006 Honda Civic 1.8 VTi-S is having a gearbox issue. The problem is as described below.. When travelling in 5th gear above 70kmh, if i do not step on the accelerator and let the speed slowly go below 65kmh, it automatically downshifts and i can feel like it's hunting for the 4th gear before it jerks and get in gear. This does not happen everytime. However, when i use paddle shifters to downshift or brake from above 70kmh, it does not seem to jerk. Anyone knows what is going on?Transmission oil is new. Thanks!

  15. Just bought a certified pre-owned 2011 E200CGI (W212) with the 5-speed gearbox... Anyone know in details the difference between servicing A and B at C&C? Heard it is just additional checks for B but have to leave car overnight which is really inconvenient. A is regular minor service cost around 480 while B goes at least 1k although usually will shoot to 2-3k which is kind of ridiculous. To avoid leaving the car overnight, some owners request for A (when B is needed) then change fluids at outside workshops to maintain warranty. Checked with SE and seems it's ok to change wear and tear items outside. I'm actually more concerned about when to change ATF and how many litres required... I was actually told by the SE that C&C usually don't change ATF during servicing since it's supposed to be "lifetime" (duh.. not that again...) So I intend to change ATF at 3rd party workshops, while going back to C&C for minimal servicing to maintain warranty. Would be great to have some info on when to change spark plugs and which ones to use too. Went though the owner's manual, and there's really nothing much in there in regards to type of ATF / amount required.. no info on spark plugs too. Thanks!
  16. Hi all, i was involved in a car accident in 2009 as a passenger. Our car was stationary at the red traffic light. Lorry failed to stop in time behind us and hit us. The car (Axio) was quite badly damaged, the back of the car caved in and glass shattered. Photos were taken and car was sent to the work shop. I saw the doctor subsequently and filed for a police report. My colleague (the driver) saw our lawyer and filed for traffic accident claim with the lorry driver's insurance company, China Taiping. We were also sent to hospitals to do check ups to substantiate our injury claim. China Taiping finally responded after 3 years in June 2012 and claims that the culprit did not report the accident. My lawyer now advised me to go for another round of check ups to update my injuries so that we can attached it to our claim and let China Taiping decide. My question is, how much longer is this going to drag and what are my chances of getting full claim?
  17. Hi, I need some advices on the following issue. My friend has a apartment and every quarterly paying the maintenance fees on time without fail. The ironical part is that it has been past 9mths but no one bank in the chq at all. As we know all chq will void once pass a period of time (can't rem how long). He is still paying and now is the 4th chq that is sending out soon. There is no way to check with other residents as that apartment is a small apartment and mostly on leasing which is of course same as him. He tried to call the management but the weirdest part is that the person in charge keep saying he will check but never get back to him. The management did not even try to contact him chase him for maintenance fees!!! Now what his worries is : 1) will he be sued for whatever reason? 2) can the management ask him to cough out all the maintenance fees the amount that he owe since day 1? The fact is that whatever amount that he suppose to pay is still in his account but that becomes "additional stress" trying to remember not to touch xxxx amount ? 3) can he turn around and fight that he did send the chq but if they don't wana bank in that's their problem? I only know that the creditors will chase for payments din know that he is chasing the other party to make payment. Thks

  20. Needed some serious advise because I had some very bad experience with an accident last year. My car was knocked from the back and after viewing around, we verbally settled for $200. But the guy said he dont have the cash now and is going back to Malaysia and will transfer the next morning. We exchanged contacts and personal details and left the scene. After stopping (about 2-3 hours later) and further checking, i realised that i have difficulty opening my car boot and then immediately SMS the guy not to transfer me money as the cost should be much higher. I also mentioned that i will send to car workshop the following morning to access the damage and will let him know the cost of repair first and see if he still wants to private settle or claim insurance. I even tried to call him but there was no answer (assuming he is in Malaysia). At the car workshop i tried to call him and still no answer so i texted him the repair costs and gave him an hour or so to reply or else i will claim insurance. Times up and i proceed to claim insurance and accident report (without highlighting about the private settlement portion). A few months after i gotten back my car, the workshop called me and told me something like the other party did not report the accident because he has already done private settlement of $200 on the next day after the accident. Then i explained the private settlement part to them and forwarded the text messages as proof. I even went to the extent of getting the date / time of the $200 transfer and it was long after i message him the cost of repair. All this while, there were no calls or sms from this guy and i didnt check my bank account untill i got the call from the workshop to verify the transfer. After a few weeks, i received some lawyer letters asking for my actions to proceed with 'writ of summons' against the other driver as well as a cheque payment ($200) back to the owner. They also indicated that in the event that the writ of summons failed, i will need to pay the workshop all the repair costs as well as some fees (about $5k+). Being reluctant to be put to such risks, i explained my situation to them via email and did not consent on the writ of summons portion because the accident is clearly not my fault and only sent back the cheque to them. I also tried writing to my insurance for assistance but there were no response or advise at all. Several months passed and i recently received a letter stating that the law firm is discharging me from this case. About 2 weeks later, i checked my mailbox and saw a letter from another law firm representing my workshop and they are claiming the costs against me. The letter was dated 21 Jun and i have 7 days to act but i only opened my mailbox on the 30 Jun (Sunday). I have written an email to the law firm explaining that i only saw the letter on Sunday and hope they can give me a week extension for consideration. So now i am totally stuck on what i can or should do next. Pardon the above long story but is there any advise from anyone please ? Regards.

  22. Hi guys, I am thinking of changin to this ride here. C4 Grand Picasso My main concerns are reliability, servicing costs and parts availability. 24. Agree having computer wizards around is good but the fact remains that the good doc ignores or seems to be unaware that many such positions are overwhelmed by foreigners especially from a particular nation. How will locals fare? Was involved in a big construction project next to Jalan Buroh and the main contractor employed a NUS computer PHD holder to be their planner. He was a nice chap from Myanmar and when I asked why he did not teach or do further research in local institutions, he said, "Friend, do you know how many computer PHD holders are out there in the market? I got this job because I went knocking on the (main contractor's name) office to show my sincerity." And that was in 1998. From ST Forum: http://www.straitstimes.com/premium/forum-...needed-20130409 More home-grown geeks needed Published on Apr 09, 2013 ONE of the pillars of modern technology is computer software code. While many of our students can use computer programs, few can write code. This deficiency must be rectified for us to remain competitive, create well-paying jobs and become self-sufficient in providing for our information technology (IT) needs. According to an article in The Telegraph last month, the demand for IT specialists in Britain is growing at four times the rate of the overall workforce. In the United States, there will be an estimated 1.4 million computer jobs by 2020, but only 400,000 computer science students. To address this demand in Britain, code clubs have been set up to teach coding in schools to children aged nine to 11. In January last year, computer science was added to the English Baccalaureate. By September this year, computer science will be added to the British curriculum as a fourth science. Nearer home, schools in Vietnam teach programming to young children as part of the curriculum. It is time the Ministry of Education faced this challenge. Fully funded coding lessons at graded levels akin to music exams, with recognised certification at the end of eight years, should be made available in all schools to pupils aged 10 and older. Computer science should also be more widely offered as an O- and A-level subject. There must also be more places for computer science students at our tertiary institutions. The ministry must regularly consult businesses to match students' software skills with those sought by industries. For example, many of the insurance industry's computer programs still run on Fortran and Cobol, but these languages have been phased out of the polytechnic curriculum. Computers are needed for the smooth running of almost all infrastructure in Singapore as well as in our military defence. Hence, we need home-grown geeks to keep our economy running, and generate products and services that will attract investors, as well as help in the defence of Singapore, especially against the growing threat of cyber terrorism. 25. Hi all, This morning while driving to work, noticed that the radiator temp lighted up. As I'm about 5 mins more to reach my office, I continue to drive it. Upon reaching my office carpark, I discovered the radiator/coolant cap has been disapeared/drop off. So, is it safe to drive the car to the workshop? or need to call for a towing service? Thank you
