  1. Would like to seek the opinion and advise from knowledgeable expert here. Planning to get new car from a AD. The SE offered me a good deal but on the condition that I will have to take up a private car loan from Hitachi at interest of 2.78% rather than the in house loan of 2.5% interest from UOB. The SE promise that he will compensate the 0.28% of extra interest that I have to pay in term of cheque. With that it seems like I'm not losing out from anything since the extra interest from Hitachi will be compensated back to me. Am I missing out on anything? Is there something I have to look out for? Are there any risk in doing so? Would appreciate is people can provide some feedbacks and advice. Thanks!
  2. Man pays for half of $84,000 car with cryptocurrency ethereum In a first-of-its kind transaction in Singapore yesterday, business development manager David Lau used cryptocurrency to pay for half of the cost of a new car. The 27-year-old bought a Honda Vezel for $84,000, using $10,000 worth of ethereum - a cryptocurrency he has been investing in for about two years - to pay the deposit for the crossover car. He will be paying another $32,000 worth of ethereum in the next three weeks, and financing the remaining $42,000 with a bank loan. Cryptocurrency is a digital currency that operates independently of a central bank. Its value is determined largely by speculation-driven demand, making it volatile and unpredictable. Speaking to The New Paper yesterday, Mr Lau said he has about $50,000 worth of cryptocurrency. He started with $500 in 2017, and invested more over time. "I was riding on the hype and saw it grow," he said. "I'm buying this car for my father, and it's a good way to let go of these assets." Mr Lau bought the car from MHG Cars, a dealership that started operations on Dec 18. Company director Lydia Ang, 35, said it is the only dealership in Singapore to accept cryptocurrency payments. She said: "It might be a niche market now, but I believe this is going to be a major thing in the future." Ms Ang added that using cryptocurrency cuts down on transaction fees. Credit card transaction fees are about 3 per cent, while the transaction fee for cryptocurrency is about 1 per cent. She said: "This lowers the cost for us and provides customers more options for payment." MHG Cars has partnered with Bizkey, a blockchain-based payment solution that acts as a middle-man, collecting cryptocurrency from consumers and dispensing cash to partners. Bizkey, which has interests in countries including China, trades in cryptocurrency. While Mr Lau's use of cryptocurrency in the transaction with MHG Cars is currently not regulated by the authorities, the proposed Payment Services Bill, which is expected to be mentioned again in Parliament this year, could lead to the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) imposing requirements on intermediaries that buy, sell or exchange payment-type digital tokens for other payment tokens or fiat currency, and vice versa. MAS has previously issued several advisories on cryptocurrency, including a joint advisory with the Commercial Affairs Department, warning the public to act with extreme caution when engaging in such transactions. The authority said cryptocurrencies are "very high risk" investments that can cause investors to lose all their capital. Mr Chia Hock Lai, chairman of the Token Economy Association and president of the Singapore Fintech Association, said he was surprised to hear about Mr Lau's purchase. "Transactions using cryptocurrency outside of investment are not common here, especially for such large amounts," he said. "It's sometimes used for purchases at cafes or eateries, but even then it's uncommon in Singapore." There are less than a hundred merchants here who accept cryptocurrency as payment. Mr Chia added that the volatility risk has to be taken into account when consumers and merchants use cryptocurrency. He said: "I think such transactions are more of a one-off event and I don't expect it to become something commonplace." For Mr Lau, buying the car was a matter of cashing out. He said he wanted to use his ethereum due to the state of the cryptocurrency market now. "It's currently not so bullish, so I want to put my money into other investments," he said. https://www.tnp.sg/news/singapore/man-pays-half-84000-car-cryptocurrency
  3. Hi everyone, I put a $3K initial deposit for a new Honda car but had to cancel the order due to some personal reason. Kah Motors not willing to refund my deposit but they willing to transfer my deposit to another buyer as a special case. Rather than forfeit all the $3K, I'm willing to discount $500 off the deposit to anyone interested to buy a new Honda. Everything will be done legally at Kah Motors so this is a legit deal. If anyone is interested or know of relatives or friends who are interested, please contact me at 98077700. Thanks.

  6. A detail breakdown of the cost/taxes of a new car including the dealer's profit margin The table is pretty much self-explanatory. This explains the high cost of new car despite the fall in COE prices! https://www.onemotoring.com.sg/content/onemotoring/en/lta_information_guidelines/buy_a_new_vehicle/car_cost.html Car_Cost_Update.pdf
  7. Just curious, would you buy a car if the dealer doesn’t allow a test drive until you’ve signed on the dotted line? This is especially so for used cars. Sounds ridiculous

  16. A couple collected their brand new diesel car that costs $138,000 on September 21 this year. After 4 days of driving, they went to a gas station in Tampines for refuel. It was their car's first and last tank of diesel. Engine needs replacement due to water in engine. Costs of repair 28k. http://news.omy.sg/News/Local-News/story20141205-310670
  17. There is a previous discussion, but the individual situation is different so the advice could be different. 52 year old guy middle income owning a 2008 Sti purchased new in 2009 at $124,000. The COE was $12,901 at that time ... Last year, i "blew up" the engine [thats another story] at a cost of $22,000. So the entire block is new, rad, air con compressor .... I honestly don't think i can afford the same "kind" of car at todays prices and although i drive to work everyday, driving is a hobby to me rather than a necessity. So perhaps from an "approaching retirement" point of view, what do you guys think?
  18. Hi folks, I need some advice here and I'm not sure does it really helps in my decision making but still wana give a shot and try. For some reason I inherited a sum of 45k. Tat makes me very excited and first thing that came into my mind is to change to a brand new car. Logically I shld not as I am not rich and this $$ though not a lot but will comes in handy and one day might save my arse if my housing repayment fail if for some reason if me or my wife loses our job. I mean anything can happen. But becos my believe is that if a person got too much to worry about or think about he will never enjoy life as there are too much restrictions in life for life is so short. 1) Shld I just dump all of this 45k on a brand new car and enjoy the luxury of owning a brand new car or shld I restrict myself and keep it for raining days? 2) my thinking was that becos of the ruling, we are force to pay 50% and a 5 to 6 yrs loan, tat means if I reAlly need cash badly, if I sold away the car, I shld lose 50% of my down payment (at least) I won't ended up owe the bank money right? 3) is it the right time to get a car now cos a lot of them days wait till CNY. A little background info of me: Currently driving a stream and if I sold away my car I can take back approx 20k so add on to my current 45k is enough for the new ride. Appreciate your advice on this Thks
  19. http://www.worldcarfans.com/114020669816/2015-bmw-x3-unveiled-with-revised-styling--new-diesel 2014 BMW X3 facelift Updated, inside & out BMW has officially unveiled the 2015 X3, following a leak earlier today. Modestly revised, the facelifted model is distinguished by new bumpers, a revised grille and restyled headlights. The crossover also gains several new exterior colors, redesigned mirrors and restyled alloy wheels. If the standard model isn't sporty enough, the xLine package adds "simulated" underbody guards, metallic trim and exclusive 18- or 19-inch alloy wheels. Customers can also order an M Sport package which includes an aerodynamic body kit, shadow line trim and 18- to 20-inch alloy wheels. The package also has sport seats, an anthracite roof liner and a sport-tuned suspension. Interior changes are limited but include revised upholstery, updated trim and new cup holders. There's also gloss black accents, an upgraded infotainment system and an iDrive controller with an integrated touchpad. The model can also be equipped with a "Smart Opener" that opens the tailgate when put your foot under the rear bumper. Under the hood, there's a new generation of 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engines. As a result, the X3 xDrive20d now produces 190 HP (140 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque - an increase of 6 HP (5 kW) and 20 Nm (15 lb-ft). The extra oomph enables the model to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 8.1 seconds. There's also an eco-friendly X3 sDrive18d which has low rolling resistance tires, rear-wheel drive and a 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine that develops 150 HP (110 kW) and 360 Nm (265 lb-ft) of torque. This enables the model to average 5.0 L/100km (47 mpg US / 56.4 mpg UK) with CO2 emissions of 131 g/km.
  20. Hi, Nowadays, I understand all new cars must send to LTA for inspection (or some called it "homologation"). If a car is neither near 97kw and it is confirmed belongs to Cat B's car, can anyone share with me how long will it stuck at LTA? PI told us they have sent in to LTA since 2nd week of Aug. Until today, the car is still stuck at LTA. Thank you.
  21. assuming the price, design, specs & features are ok for you, what other criterias do you look for? given a 5yr/100,000km warranty against a 3yr/100,000km, is the 3yr gonna be worse off?
  22. Hyundai unveiled the new 2015 Hyundai Sonata at the New York Auto Show wearing a bold new design as part of the new Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language - an evolution of the original fluidic sculpture design language that perfectly expresses Sonata's premium look and excellent value. The 2015 Hyundai Sonata will go on sale early this summer in the U.S.A. I believe the American model would not make it to local shores, although it provides a hint of an all new i45 for Singapore. The design of the Sonata matures for the 2015 model year with a larger, more refined grille with a wide air intake defines the face of the 2015 Sonata. The coupe-like roofline remains, but it is balanced by a larger window graphic that emphasises the roomier interior. In SE trim, the Sonata's exterior styling includes standard LED daytime running lights, 16-inch alloy wheels, a rear lip spoiler and chrome surround for the day light opening. The premium interior plays a special emphasis on ergonomics. For example, intuitive buttons and controls are placed on the centre stack - angled toward the driver - for easier accessibility. The height of the display screen for the audio display or 8.0-inch navigation system and instrument cluster are optimised for visibility and reside on the same plane to enhance readability during a quick glance. Sonata Sport 2.0T receives a unique interior featuring a D-cut steering wheel and paddle shifters while the sport instrument cluster with six o'clock needle position hints at the improved performance from the more responsive turbocharged engine. Hyundai continues its all four-cylinder engine lineup for the 2015 Sonata. A revised 2.4-litre Theta II GDI four-cylinder engine powers SE, Limited and Sport models. The 2.4-litre four-cylinder produces 185 horses and 241Nm of torque. A revised 2.0-litre Theta II turbocharged GDI powers the Sport 2.0T models. The 2.0-litre turbocharged engine is optimised for lower RPM drivability and produces 245bhp and 352Nm of torque. Both Theta engines are paired to a six-speed Shiftronic automatic transmission.
  23. Nissan has revealed the all new 2015 Nissan Murano at the New York International Auto Show. While the original Murano was inspired by the elegance of Italian Murano glassware from which the model took its name, the third generation took its cues from the Nissan Resonance Concept. The prominent glass areas of the first generation Murano were retained and expanded with the new design, including the use of its jet-inspired roof and D-pillars that appear disconnected from the roof that help visually lighten the cabin. Another key element is the continued refinement of the boomerang-style headlights and taillights, which were originally introduced on the Nissan 370Z. The new design is slightly lower, wider and longer, enhancing the aerodynamics while not compromising the desired crossover height and stance. The instrument panel height is lower than previous Muranos. Centred between the outer wings is a large information and control centre with an available eight-inch colour display with multi-touch control. The cargo area has been reconfigured to provide a projected best storage space in the segment (with seats up). The rear cargo area, accommodates four large suitcases and can accomodate more load with the flat folding rear seats. The Murano will be available at launch with a standard 3.5-litre DOHC V6 rated at 260bhp and 325Nm of torque. Also standard is an advanced Xtronic transmission tuned for quick response and smoothness. Fuel economy is projected to be enhanced by approximately 20 percent versus the current generation Murano, due to the approximate 58kg overall weight reduction, enhanced aerodynamics and engine/transmission efficiencies. The 2015 Nissan Murano will be offered in four grade levels when it goes on sale in late 2014 in America - each available in front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
  24. The 4.4-litre V8 engine in the Alpina B6 Bi-Turbo Gran Coupe develops 540bhp and a high 730Nm of torque available between 2,800 and 5,000rpm. The bi-turbo lump is linked to a capable ZF eight-speed transmission with Alpina Switch-Tronic for a creamy power delivery. Bundled with BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive technology, the B6 Gran Coupe blasts to the century mark from nought in a dizzying 3.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 318km/h - making it the fastest accelerating BMW Alpina to date. Direct injection and valvetronic contribute to the B6 Bi-Turbo Gran Coupe's low consumption and emission figures of just 9.6km/L and CO2 emissions of 242g/km in the combined cycle. Typical design features of Alpina blend seamlessly and elegantly into the contours of the Gran Coupe and accentuate its sporty, powerful appearance. In particular, the 20-inch Alpina Classic light alloy wheels complement the long, smooth proportions of the Gran Coupe. The front spoiler with integrated, slightly forward positioned splitter directs more air over and around rather than underneath the vehicle, thereby stabilising the front end at high speeds. The design of the front spoiler ensures the effective flow of sufficient air to various radiator modules of the performance cooling systems. The Blue Alpina instruments, hand stitched steering wheel in Lavalina leather and illuminated door sills are just some of the exclusive features of the Gran Coupe's interior. The stainless steel exhaust system with trademark twin pipes returns a deep exhaust note - while an optional titanium exhaust system from Akrapovic is also available.
