  1. After revealing a teaser shot of the taillight combination of the all new Corolla, Toyota has now released two fresh crops of the latest iteration of the best selling car in the world. One of the photos shows the sedan's lower grille and fog lamp assembly. The shape of the lower grille somewhat reminds me of the signature Audi grille. The second photo shows the Toyota logo on the hood. In addition to the new photos, Toyota has released a video, featuring Toyota Vice President of Marketing, Jack Hollis. The cheerful executive wants the viewers to keep coming back for more details of the new Corolla as the launch date of 6th June draws nearer. He claims that the new model will have a new styling and attitude. The next generation Corolla is previewed by the Furia Concept that was displayed at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show in January this year. Click for the 2014 Corolla introduction video.
  2. Taxi operators across cities in Europe are going through a quiet revolution as they start to shift from conventional diesel powered cabs to zero-emission - and near silent Nissan Leaf taxis. Two years after the EV went on sale in Europe, Nissan Leaf taxis are now operating in European cities like Holland, Switzerland, Germany, Portugal, Spain and the U.K. The world's best-selling electric vehicle (EV) is fast becoming a favourite among taxi drivers too, thanks to lower running costs and fueled by a desire to reduce airborne pollution in city centres. These road warriors are fast-becoming EV advocates showing colleagues the benefits of making the switch from diesel to electric. One of the strongest advocates is Amsterdam-based Taxi-E company. With a fleet of 13 Nissan LEAF's, the firms' drivers have covered over 700,000km - further than the distance between earth and the moon. The cars are quick-charged two or three times daily using 100 percent green energy, meaning they're always ready for passengers. The city of Zurich in Switzerland, will soon obtain ten Nissan Leaf supported by a network of city-wide fast chargers as part of the city's plans to make 15 percent of its taxi fleet electric by 2015. Capable of restoring the battery life by up to 80 percent in just 30 minutes, many customers arrive with partially full batteries, thus making the average stay - just 15 minutes. In Portugal, the first European country to sell the Leaf, Lisbon based owner-driver Jose Ferreira replaced his diesel powered taxi with a Leaf and has since driven more than 15,000km so far. Interestingly he reveals 70 percent of his customers liked the experience - and they would actively choose to ride in an electric taxi. Fuel and running costs are the biggest factors for taxi owner-drivers. Owner-driver Roberto San Jose from Valladolid, Spain, would have to spend more than
  3. Drayson Racing Technologies has announced to make an attempt for the FIA World Electric Land Speed Record on 25th June at RAF Elvington in Yorkshire, U.K. It's the latest challenge to be undertaken by the pioneering electric motorsport firm, which has been at the forefront of sustainable racing since 2007 and was first to sign up for the new FIA Formula E championship series. The attempt will be made in the sub-1000kg class to be piloted by entrepreneur, racing driver and former U.K. Science Minister Lord Drayson. He will drive a low-drag version of the Drayson B12 69EV electric Le-Mans Prototype flat-out along Elvington's 2.99km long runway. Lord Drayson will aim to better the current record of 281km/h set by Battery Box General Electric in the United States back in 1974. Lord Drayson, CEO and co-founder of Drayson Racing Technologies, commented, "It is not the outright speed that is impressive about this record attempt, but the engineering challenge of accelerating a 1,000kg electric vehicle to such a high speed and sustaining that speed, before stopping safely all within a relatively short distance then turning round and doing it again within an hour." With the electric land speed record it intends to showcase what is possible with an electric drivetrain and underscore Britain
  4. Race Driver: Grid is a video game by Codemasters - the same developers of the recent slew of F1 games and Dirt rally car racing series. The sequel, Grid 2, is an upcoming video game by the same developers to be released in a couple of days on PS3, Xbox 360 and Windows OS. Most video games like God of War, Halo and Call of Duty, among others, usually retail a limited, exclusive or collectors packaging. They often contain a few value add items like DLC, in game character skins, maps, weapons or in the case of Call of Duty - you get night vision goggles or remote controlled 'surveillance vehicle'. As part of the new game, the marketing team for Codemasters have unveiled a new Grid 2: Mono Edition and with it you get the game (obviously), a PlayStation 3 and an actual 273km/h capable BAC Mono car - in full Grid 2 livery and full driver race wear for the ultimate racing experience. By the way, did I mention it costs roughly 125,000 of the queens money (S$238,727) ?
  5. A few days after Mitsubishi showed an official photo of the new Attrage, the brochure of the new model has leaked onto the internet. As the compact sedan will be produced at Mitsubishi Motors Thailand's factory at the Laem Chabang plant, the brochure is printed in Thai. However, we can still make some sense out of it. The Attrage will be available in three trims, namely the GLX, GLS and the top-end GLS Ltd. The GLS models will be equipped with twin airbags while the GLX makes do with just a driver's airbag. The GLS Ltd variant will get a Start/Stop button, reverse camera and MP3/DVD/Bluetooth function. The buyer can choose from six different body colours. Mitsubishi claims that the attrage can achieve a fuel consumption figure of 22km/L, which is superior to its rivals, the Nissan Almera and Honda Amaze. The car is powered by a 1.2-litre three-cylinder MIVEC engine which is good for 78bhp and 100Nm of torque. Transmission options include CVT and a five-speed manual.
  6. Ford is celebrating 21 years as an official UEFA Champions League partner and this year marked the company's largest ever presence at the four-day UEFA Champions Festival. Ford made its presence felt with the new Kuga, Fiesta ST and special guest driver - Ken Block. The new Ford Kuga was featured heavily in the build-up to the UEFA Champions League Finals appearing on match-day hoardings in stadiums around Europe and leading Ford's 'Drive to Wembley' competition. Drive to Wembley was the largest ever ticket giveaway for a UEFA Champions League Final that saw 360 winners from 27 countries around Europe attending the match between FC Bayern Munich and BV Borussia Dortmund. Fans at festival experienced the new Ford Kuga with test drives that highlight Ford
  7. The current generation Lamborghini Aventador already has what it takes to catch the eyes of people from young to old. It is beautiful, aggressive, and ultimately, there's no doubt that it can tempt people to say "I want one!". However, it seems that the Italian automaker won't stop there. A new generation of the supercar, namely the Lamborghini Aventador SV, is likely well underway. With remarkably large brake calipers, lower front fascia for increased aerodynamics, and also a gurney flap for its rear spoiler, this next generation Aventador transforms into an even more aggressive monster than its elder brother already ruling the driveway of the wealthy. It is believed that this Aventador SV will carry an upgraded 6.5-litre V12 engine. That will get the driver going at 100km/h from a standstill in less than 3 seconds
  8. Toyota has released the first teaser shot of the 2014 Toyota Corolla. The next generation Corolla is previewed by the Furia Concept that was displayed at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show in January. The official premiere of the Eleventh iteration Corolla is scheduled to take place on 6th June in California. Toyota wants us to
  9. Back in the Geneva Motor Show last year, British automaker, Lotus, introduced the world to its potentially fastest handmade convertible ever, the Exige S Roadster. Based on the company's new Exige S coupe, this roadster looks mostly identical to its coupe counterpart. However, the rear spoiler has been disposed of and there's now soft top roof available. Weighing no more than 1,166kg, this roadster will let you feel the wind blowing your hair at a speed of 233km/h, thanks to its supercharged 3.5-litre V6 engine. Mated to either a six-speed manual transmission or the automaker's Serial Precision Shift (SPS) transmission system, the engine can provide the power of 345 horses in addition to 400Nm of torque. The Lotus Exige S Roadster will get you going to 100km/h in no longer than 3.8 seconds, from a complete standstill. And, to complete your comfort, you can choose a sporty or a comfortable enhanced plush interior. As Lotus is readying the 2013 Lotus Exige S Roadster for order, the automaker has also announced the prices of its latest roadster for 3 regions - UK, European Union, and Japan. With Japan being closer to us here in Singapore than the other two, I think we can assume that the price tag of the roadster there won
  10. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOzjcEq526I Chinese carmaker, BAIC, has engaged Hollywood actor, Nicolas Cage, to star in a commercial for the brand new Senova D Series. "We choose Nicolas Cage as the spokesman for our high end brand 'Shenbao' not only because he is an Oscar-winning actor and a screen legend, but, more importantly, because he has starred in a series of action films about cars," said an official in BAIC's Marketing Department. The Senova D Series is based on the SAAB 9-5 platform. In 2009, BAIC bought Saab's production lines for the first generation 9-3 and 9-5, which had an estimated worth of US$200 million(S$250 million). However, BAIC did not acquire the right to use the 'Saab' name. 'Shenbao' is the Chinese name for Saab in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. The Shenbao D-Series is available with three turbocharged engines, namely a 1.8-litre with 180bhp, a 2.0-litre with 204bhp and a 2.3-litre with 250bhp. The engines are mated to a five-speed tiptronic transmission with paddle shifts.
  11. In May 1913, James Radley set off from Brown's Hotel in London's Mayfair for a famous motoring adventure - the 1913 Alpine Trial. A century later, the same Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost has returned - ready to depart for a re-enactment of the event. Forming the modern day Rolls-Royce Works Team, Radley's car will join a contemporary pioneer, a 2013 Alpine Trial Centenary Collection Rolls-Royce Ghost on a faithful re-enactment of the rally in June this year. But the Works Team will be accompanied by more than 40 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghosts - many over a century old to traverse over 1,800 miles of Alpine roads. The rally will start in Vienna on 14th June 2013, and will pass through Italy, Croatia and Slovenia before returning to Austria's capital for a special evening hosted by Margraf Pallavicini at his Palais, exactly 100 years to the day since the finale of the original Alpine Trial. Taking in some of Europe's finest and most challenging mountain roads, the rally will meet with a group from the Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts' Club at Riva Del Garda, Italy, on Friday 21st June where 100 historic Rolls-Royce Silver Ghosts will assemble for the largest gathering of its kind in history. The Rolls-Royce Silver Ghosts' exceptional performance in the 1913 Alpine Trial saw it earn the moniker 'The Best Car in the World', cementing the marque's reputation for engineering excellence and impeachable reliability. To celebrate this extraordinary moment in Rolls-Royce and automotive history, the Bespoke department at the Home of Rolls-Royce in Goodwood, England designed and crafted a 21st century homage. Finished in an exterior hue that takes inspiration from the Radley car, the 2013 Alpine Trial Centenary Ghost features exquisitely crafted bespoke touches that elegantly tell the story of the 1913 Trial. The clock displays the stages of the rally and timings while inlays to rear picnic tables and the front fascia express the topography and distances of the Alpine route. A hand-painted coachline referencing the four Rolls-Royce motor cars that took part in the rally and headlining, colour-matched to the hood of Radley's car, completes a beautiful homage.
  12. [extract] While some automakers such as Mazda and Honda are shifting their production to Mexico, the Blue Oval, Ford, is planning to do just the opposite. The American automaker is planning to shift its Fiesta production from Chennai and Cuautitl
  13. Renault has signed on as official Technical Partner of Spark Racing Technology to supply Formula E cars that will contest in the FIA Formula E Championship. Formula E is a class of auto racing governed by the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) and is intended to be the highest class of competition for one-make, single-seat, electrically-powered racing cars. The series was conceived in 2012, with the inaugural race to be held in 2014. Demonstration events have been planned for the second half of 2013. Former Formula One driver Lucas di Grassi will be the series' test driver. Forty two cars were ordered have been ordered with Formula One team - McLaren - providing the motor, transmission and electronics that will be used by all the cars while Dallara Automobili will construct the chassis. Ten host cities are planning to hold the races and will occur exclusively on street circuits including in cities like Rio de Janeiro, Rome, Bangkok, Beijing and Miami - among others. The agreement was signed by Patrice Ratti, Renault Sport Technologies Managing Director and as a Renault SAS representative, Alejandro Agag, CEO of Formula E Holdings and Frederic Vasseur, President of Spark Racing Technologies. Renault's ongoing involvement in motor racing's series provides it with a unique technological laboratory, giving it an edge not only in the world of production vehicles but also on the race track. Renault's technological excellence extends not only in F1 but also in all Z.E. range. The forty two Formula E single-seaters built for the beginning of the first season will be aptly named 'Spark-Renault'.
  14. As time goes by, China seems to be getting more lucrative when it comes to the automotive market. There are many global automakers out there that have seen huge sales of their car lineups in the country. The German automaker BMW, for example, managed to sell no less than 330,000 units of cars in China last year. In comparison, its rival automaker, Audi, sold at least 400,000 units within the same time period. So, it seems rational for another automaker to come and join the business. In this case, it's the US automaker Cadillac, which is a division that belongs to General Motors (GM). GM has now made clear its intention of building a plant in China after acquiring the signature from the National Development and Reform Commission in the country. The signature means approval for GM to build its plant which is estimated to cost $1.3 billion (S$1.6 billion) in total. The plan is that GM will start establishing the plant in June 2013. In terms of production capacity, the plant is expected to deliver 150,000 units per year. The plant is to be situated at the Jinqiao zone in Shanghai. This factory building approval seems critical for Cadillac as the company has already avoided being forced to pay 25 percent of import tariffs. This is possible thanks to Cadillac's decision to switch its XTS sedan production to China. Bob Socia, President GM China, even happened to comment that it was an imaginable probability that the Cadillacs manufactured in China could be sold in the United States of America. Well, it seems that globalisation has entered a whole brand new era. It's brave and yet, it's also strange at the same time.
  15. Bugatti Veyron It seems that Dubai is one of the richest cities that exist on Planet Earth. Not only is the city pretty, but it's potentially the safest one in this world as well. Well, if you don't really want to buy what I'm saying, you may want to have a look at the fleet of police cars the city has in store instead. Lamborghini Aventador Not so long ago, the Dubai Police Department already secured quite a few supercars such as the Bentley Continental GT, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, Lamborghini Aventador, Aston Martin One-77, and the Ferrari FF. Additionally, they also have the Chevrolet Camaro SS. Still, it seems that the local police now think that they shouldn
  16. Recently, Mat Watson of Carbuyer U.K. got to review the Peugeot 208 GTI and Ford Fiesta ST on separate occasions. Both hot hatches were launched within two weeks apart. Both cars share more similarities than just their launch dates. The Fiesta ST and 208 GTI are both powered by 1.6-litre turbocharged engines mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. The GTI churns out 197bhp with a century sprint timing of 6.7 seconds while the ST produces 200bhp and goes from 0 to 100km/h in 6.9 seconds. Although the ST is slower, it certainly trashes the GTI in terms of hot hatch looks with its "Aston Martin" grille. And from Mat's expression during both reviews, you can guess which one he prefers. The GTI and ST earned a rating of 4.0/5.0 and 4.8/5.0 respectively at the end of the reviews. Ford Fiesta ST Peugeot 208 GTI
  17. Although the 2014 Lexus IS is available with an optional F-Sport package, some may feel that it is not aggressive enough and want more. Good news. The folks at TRD have come up with a performance and styling kit for the baby Lexus. On the styling front, the sedan can be ordered with an aerodynamic body kit that includes a front spoiler, revised side skirts, a rear diffuser and an integrated trunk spoiler. Customers can also order a four-tailpipe sports exhaust system and 19-inch forged aluminum wheels that sports a 15-spoke design. To improve the handling and steering feel, TRD retunes the suspension by adding a set of sport springs and dampers to make the car sit closer to the ground. TRD also offers underbody member braces. The engine output of the car remains unchanged. At the moment, the TRD aero kit and performance package are available only in Japan and the parts can be ordered separately.
  18. Are you a fan of Batman? If so, I believe you have watched the movie 'The Dark Knight Rises', just like I have. Well, in that case, you should be able to recall that there's a vehicle known as the 'Tumbler'. The Tumbler was born as a result of Christopher Nolan, the movie director, wanting something that would look more real, unlike the earlier Batmobiles featured in the movie series. The result was quite an appealing vehicle. Honestly, if only I had the money, I would have ordered one for myself, too! But well, you see, not everyone has such a nice and wealthy life as Bruce Wayne does. Nonetheless, Team Galag - which is participating in this year's Gumball 3000 Rally - has one that looks just like the Tumbler belonging to the superhero most of us have come to love. Team Galag's Tumbler had already been seen 'eating' tarmac, potentially preparing to compete in the rally which is coming to its 15th anniversary. This real life Batmobile counts on a 6.2-litre V8 engine but weighing 2.5 tonnes in total, I won't be surprised to see the Tumbler topping its speed at only 161km/h. Well, it seems that the Batmobile isn't really made for racing, after all. Tumbler - The making of
  19. McLaren P1 The British automaker McLaren has already confirmed that it will soon start development for the successor to the P1 hypercar. However, don't get too excited now, as the company has also mentioned that we aren't likely to see what the successor looks like within the next decade (yes, that's ten years altogether). McLaren P1 The news came along with the news that McLaren's F1 staffs had started carrying out some necessary works in the UK-based automaker's joint effort with the Japanese automaker Honda, seemingly for the sake of the 2015 F1 racing season. It was Greg Levine, the Sales and Marketing Head at McLaren, who shared the news regarding the successor to the P1. McLaren MP4-12C "The only way a car like the P1 works is by being exclusive and having a short product cycle. After that, you have to step back from the market for a few years. These sort of launches can only happen every ten years or so," commented Levine. McLaren MP4-12C Until now, the automaker is about to produce its 375th P1 and - miraculously enough, I would say, considering the very high price tag of US$1.3 million (that is around S$1.6 million) - it has received customers for three quarters of the total units of the P1 to be produced. McLaren MP4-12C Spider Now, judging that Levine mentioned that it will take ten whole years for McLaren to introduce a new hypercar, I'm guessing some of you may be wondering if the company will have nothing to offer in the meantime. Well, in this regard, the British automaker is preparing an entry level model it's probably going to slot under the MP4-12C. The entry level model is dubbed the P13. Unfortunately, there has yet to be any image leaked on the styling cues of the model. Sources inside McLaren are also keeping their lips sealed tightly for the time being. However, it is known that the P13 will more likely lean on the styling cues of the P1 than those of the MP4-12C. According to sources at McLaren, the company's MP4-12C is 'too much about technology and less about beauty' and that the P13 isn't going to suffer from the same fate. Regarding the price of the P13, it seems wise to believe that it will range somewhere around US$200,000 (approximately S$251,000) or less. I think it's safe to assume that the price won't reach US$250,000 (approximately S$314,000), otherwise it may distract the sale of the MP4-12C.
  20. If you're a fan of the Italian supercar brand Lamborghini, well, I believe you must have heard of the Urus, the SUV the Italian automaker is planning to build by 2016. It looks aggressive and attractive. However, you aren't likely to get your hands on one, at least not until 2016 at the earliest, even if you have the amount of money it demands, which is US$200,000 (approximately S$251,000). But worry not as the Italian automaker's parent company, Volkswagen (VW) has already given the green light for the mass production of the model. At least, that was stated by Rupert Stadler, Chairman of Audi AG, during the gala dinner of the Grande Giro 50th anniversary tour. For those who don't know, the Grande Giro was Lamborghini's celebration of its 50th anniversary which took place just recently. Nevertheless, if you don't think you can wait any longer, a Chinese automaker known as the Sichuan Yema - which means 'Mustang' - may have an interesting offer. The Chinese company is building an SUV with inspiration from the Lamborghini Urus. It seems that the Chinese version of the SUV may be using a platform similar to that of the Austin Rover Maestro. Two years ago, the company, based in Chengdu, South West China, made a purchase on the platform of the Austin Rover Maestro. Then, not long afterwards, the company began using the platform for its production models. However, since it isn't the actual Lamborghini Urus, I would suggest that you do not expect 100 percent similarity between the Chinese and the actual Italian version of the Urus SUV. Well, it isn't that the Chinese one is totally ugly. Looking at the sides, the sloping roof, and also the rear quarters, it does remind me of the actual Urus. However, the headlamps and taillights are kind of different from the real car. In addition to that, it is in your best interest that you do not expect such a powerful engine (potentially a 600bhp V12 engine) as that of the real Urus. Instead, the SUV from the Chinese 'Mustang' will carry a 1.5-litre engine from Japanese automaker Mitsubishi. This engine will help the Chinese version of the Urus to cruise around Chengdu with a total power output of 143bhp and a peak torque of 200Nm. This SUV from Sichuan Yema is the company's latest SUV. Formerly, the company had also announced quite a lot of new models, all of which were SUVs. Just for your information, the licence possessed by Sichuan Yema only allows it to build SUVs. Unfortunately, keeping in mind that the Chinese automaker has never really managed to deliver their cars to the streets, I wonder if the same will happen to this latest Chinese Urus as well. If you want a comparison, the red SUV you can see in the images is the actual Lamborghini Urus SUV from Italy whereas the white one is its Chinese counterpart.
  21. 15th May 2013 was the world premiere of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Mercedes unveiled its new luxury sedan at the Airbus A380 Delivery Centre located in Hamburg, Germany. However, what attracts me besides the debut of the luxury German sedan itself is the odds that the German automaker is set to launch the coupe version soon. On its official Facebook page, Mercedes Germany has released a sketch of its new model. To me, the sketch looks like the 2014 S-Class coupe, well, although Mercedes-Benz didn't necessarily mention the term 'coupe', and the new model seems kind of wider than the previous generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class coupe. Furthermore, it's known that the 2014 S-Class will also come in a convertible and coupe version. In addition to that, no matter how I look at it, the styling cues portrayed in the sketch don't seem to match those of the actual sedan being launched at the home country of Mercedes-Benz today. So, in short, I think it's safe to say that we should be getting ready to behold the launch of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe which will seemingly take place in the near future. Otherwise, I don't think the German automaker will be revealing the design of its new model in such detail.
  22. Peugeot has taken the wraps off the new 308 hatchback. The new model sports chiselled lines as compared to the outgoing model which looked bubblier and somewhat feminine. The new French model adapts Peugeot's new family face and is built upon the new EMP2 modular platform which contributes to weight savings of 140kg. Peugeot claimed that the interior quality has improved and highlighted its 'i-cockpit' which does not have any buttons. The main focal point of the cabin is the centrally-mounted 9.7-inch touchscreen multi-functional display. Peugeot has not released any engine details at the moment but it has confirmed that CO2 emissions will be as low as 85g/km. The new 308 will make its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show come September. In the meantime, enjoy the gallery of France's latest VW Golf competitor. The outgoing 308
  23. Toyota has updated the JDM Mark X sedan for the 2013 model year. One of the more popular parallel-imported Toyota model in Singapore, this is the second time the Mark X receives a facelift in its life cycle. For those who feel that the facelift back in 2009 could be better, the good news is that the 2013 model has a nicer looking front fascia with a new grille that sports a more pronounced "X" logo in the centre. Sporting an aggressive design, the headlights incorporate Bi-Xenon bulbs and daytime running LED lights. The tail lights and bumper have been redesigned as well. Along with the 2013 iteration of the Mark X, Toyota has collaborated with its racing partner, Gazoo Racing, to come up with the G
  24. In less than a week, the world will witness the debut of the all new 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class. But right now, photos of its 1:18 scale die-cast model has surfaced on the Internet, courtesy of a photo gallery in an online French forum dedicated to miniature models. The photos revealed that the new model, codenamed W222, is clearly an evolution of the current model. Perhaps Mercedes-Benz is trying to play it safe with the styling of its top tier sedan so as not to 'shock' its current customer base. Some interesting styling features include a large front grille inspired by the F700 Concept car and LED head lights and taillights. Along with the sedan, the S-Class will spawn a coupe and convertible as well as an extended wheelbase S 600 Pullman trim that will fill the Maybach void. The latest S-Class represents Mercedes-Benz' ninth generation flagship sedan, and the sixth to be officially called the S-Class. Like the current S500, the new S-Class will be powered by a twin-turbo V8 and the S600 will pack a twin-turbo V12. The S 63 and S 65 AMG, diesel, hybrid and smaller powertrains will be introduced at a later date.
  25. A recent visit to Honda Singapore's Facebook page revealed the impending arrival of the all new Honda Accord. The ninth generation Accord already went on sale in the North American market back in September 2012. Since the past two generations of the Singapore-bound Accord hail from Thailand, the factory source of the latest version is almost a forgone conclusion. The specifications of the Thailand Accord will tell a lot about the model that we will be getting. The new Thailand Accord is available with a 155bhp 2.0-litre i-VTEC engine or a 174bhp 2.4-litre i-VTEC Earth Dreams Technology. The 2.4-litre unit is a brand new engine from Honda that employs VTC (Variable Timing Control) and direct injection technology with extensive friction reduction measures. This is in addition to the usual DOHC and VTEC technologies. Both engines are mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. This may sound a tad disappointing as class competitors such as the Kia Optima and Mazda 6 have already adopted a six-speed setup. Measuring 4,870mm by 1,850mm by 1,465mm (L x W x H), the new Accord is shorter but wider and sits lower than the outgoing model. The front double wishbone suspension has been replaced with a MacPherson strut design while the rear retains a multi-link setup. It is the first Accord to use a strut suspension since the second generation. From a safety aspect, the new Accord is available with Collision Mitigation Brake System (CMBS) that alerts the driver of an imminent front end collision and applies the brake automatically. The Honda Lane Watch Blind Spot Display provides an enhanced view of the passenger-side roadway. The 2.4-litre variant comes equipped with six airbags while the 2.0-litre makes do with four. Vehicle Stability Assist is standard across all models. The complete specifications of the new Thailand Accord can be found below.
