  1. Hi, need some advice and your rationale to see if I got my sum right. I bought my Aug 2007 Stream in Jan 2012 for $55K. The OMV is $20,500+ and I understand I can get back around $11,300 if I ride it out till the end. So, at that point, I was thinking my depreciation is around $7,300 per year. That is OK for a 1.8 litre car that sits 7 people. With today COE dropping and hopefully it will goes further south, it seems that should I replace it, I will enjoy a better depreciation and enjoy a new car. Of course I may not be getting back a 7 seater and 1.8 litre Honda. If I go for a $85K normal saloon car (Kia, Mazda, etc) and trade in my present car. This is my calculation. Value of new car $85,000 Trade in current car $20,000 ( $11, 300 + $9K for the balance 1.5 year is very reasonable or I should get more) $55,000 For the new car, if I ride out the 10 years, I am sure I should at least get back $5K. So, if I depreciate the $50K over 10 years, my depreciation for each year is $5K. Did I get this sum right? On top of the above, for the balance 1.5 years, my depreciation of $7,300 is reduced to $5K per year, a saving of another $2.3K or more. Of course now I got to see what $85K I can buy. Any views or advice? Thank you
  2. I'm going to buy a mobile phone. It will be the first mobile I will have had in 25 years. I'm interested in the Xiaomi Mi 4i or the Xiaomi Mi 5. Anyone use these phones and can give an idea of how good they are. I understand the Mi 4i is comparable to an iPhone 6 but only a quarter of the price. Any comments.

  5. Xioami listed as cheapest HP had been broken.......... Here comes S$3/- Android HP with Andriod 5.1 Lollipop, 1.3 GHz, 1 GB RAM and 4 GB storage space. Yahoo : Don’t laugh. This Indian company has just launched world’s cheapest smartphone priced at US$1.34 The Namotel Acche Din has a 4-inch display, runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop, powered by 1.3GHz quad-core processor, and has 1 GB RAM and 4GB storage space With US$1.34, you could probably buy 2.5 kg of tomatoes in India but not a smartphone. Oh, wait. From today, you can buy a smartphone for less than US$2.00 in India. Bangalore-based company Namotel has announced in a press conference that it has launched the world’s cheapest smartphone, priced at INR 99 (US$1.34) — which is cheaper than Freedom 251, priced at US$4, launched by another Indian firm (The company is, however, under investigation for misleading the public). Christened Namotel Acche Din (Namo is apparently the nickname of Indian PM Narendra Modi), the ’cheaper-than-the-cheapest’ handset will be available for booking between May 17 to 25, 2016. According to the company, Namotel Acche Din has a 4-inch display, runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop, and is powered by 1.3GHz quad-core processor. It has 1 GB RAM and 4GB storage space. The smartphone brand will be available only in India on cash-on-delivery basis. Those who have an Aadhaar card can register on its site and book the phone. Acche Din (means good days) comes with one year warranty. For handset and accessory defects under normal use circumstances and at the discretion of the company, Namotel shall provide free-of-charge repair and/or replacement services within the warranty period, it claims on its website. The company is promoted by Madhava Reddy, who claims to have worked as a relationship manager in the Axis Bank’s Home Loans. Established in 2016, the company looks to promote the ‘Make in India’ initiative launched by Modi. In February, Ringing Bells launched Freedom 251. However, it ran into trouble after Kirit Somaiya, leader of India’s leading political party BJP, filed a formal complaint against the company for allegedly violating India’s IT Act for being dishonest with its product claims. Somaiya had alleged that it was impossible for a smartphone manufacturer to price a phone at US$4 without carrier subsidies. In February, he described Freedom 251 as a ponzi scheme. link : https://sg.news.yahoo.com/don-t-laugh-indian-company-just-launched-world-044024944.html
  6. From today, police officers will carries their new 'Warrant Card' ..... It also said that we can demand to see their 'Warrant Card' to check whether real or bluff police officers .. Yahoo : New holographic warrant card to prevent police imposters All police officers will carry a new warrant card with enhanced security features from 1 March to prevent identity fraud by police imposters. These cards will be held by all regular, volunteer and full time national service police officers, operationally ready police national servicemen and auxiliary police officers, the police said in a statement on Monday (29 Feb). When the warrant card is tilted at an angle, it will show the holographic word “POLICE” below an officer’s photograph. The right side of the card will also show five holographic police crests. If members of the public are approached by anyone who claims to be a police officer, the police advised them to look out for the security features in the warrant card or call “999” for assistance when in doubt. link : https://sg.news.yahoo.com/new-police-warrant-card-to-prevent-imposters-114038656.html
  7. How many of you have encountered more dishonesty during the CNY period? Personally I was short changed 150g when I ordered 1KG worth of roasted meat from a usual source that I buy from. Guess I really have to re-consider whether to go back to the same source after this incident. I generally find businesses more dishonest over the festive season.

  12. I see a lot of new cars with no mileage selling as used car with 1 owner as it is registered. Why do car dealers do that? They would lose money doing that as it's considered a 1 owner car although there's no mileage on it? Is it because they have COE expiring that they have to register with a car? What other possible reasons?

  14. I recently collected a new Nissan sylphy. Question 1: The tyres (cpc2) date code are week 40, 2013. That means tyres are more than a year old. Do you guys think this is reasonable, coming from a new car from a major AD? The car manufacturing date is 2014. Question 2: One of the tyres has a different date code from the other 3. This one is week 19, 2014. Is mixing same model tyre but from different manufacturing dates as far as 6 months ok? Thanks for reading and answering. I could not find a thread that is talking about tyres age for new car. Do you guys get 1 year old tyres when you collect your new car?
