Thankfully, BMW has confirmed that its upcoming M3 sedan and M4 coupe will be available with a manual transmission. As reported by BMW Blog and Carscoops, BMW M Chief Executive Markus Flasch announced the news when he was asked in an interview whether or not there will be any surprises for BMW fans with the new M3 and M4. It’s a bit early to disclose all the details but something I want to highlight is that we will have a manual stick shift,” he said. “We have already disclosed we will have the option of four-wheel drive. We’ve not decided which variant, which system, but everything that’s on our current lineup; think of the M5; can be made available. The M3 and M4, I’ve driven the pre-production cars already and they’re fantastic.” Flaschadded on, “Manual is very important. The manual stick shift is not a performance-bringer, because an automatic transmission is just faster, you can ask any race driver,” he said. “But it gives the vehicle character and I kind of compare it to people who love mechanical watches; it isn’t more precise and it doesn’t have any advantage at all but it’s a character feature. So is a stick shift.” There is no confirmation on whether the M3/4's all-wheel drive system will have a rear-wheel drive mode like the M5, but we would be surprised if it didn't.

Formula 1 driver Daniel Ricciardo has a go in the new Renault Megane R.S. Trophy-R at Goodwood. Interestingly, he chooses to go sideways up the hill. We have no idea why he did so but instead of going flat out on the hillclimb, Ricciardo choses to go sliding with the handbrake at relatively low speeds. We are sure he is having fun and we are also pretty sure the rear tyres is going to have a few flat spots after this peculiar run. As for the car, it is the current record holder at the Nurburgring for the fastest production front-wheel drive car and compared to the Megane R.S. Trophy, the Trophy-R is 130kg lighter and with 296bhp, the car will complete the century sprint in 5.4 seconds. It tops out at 262km/h and is only available with a six-speed manual gearbox.

We all know the Land Rover Defender is coming and it seems like someone has managed to take a photo of it without camouflage. Leaked online through a number of Land Rover forums before making its way onto Twitter, the photo is actually a photo of the new Defender’s digital gauge cluster. From that digital side view of the new SUV, we can see that it is more modern and rounded than its predecessor. We also noticed that there seem to be a small side window incorporated into the roof much like some of its previous variants. The new Defender will be using a revised version of the MLA platform used by the likes of the Range Rover Sport and Land Rover Discovery, with engines options probably similar to those cars too. The car is expected to be debut globally in September.

Good news for future GR Supra owners, Toyota has released new TRD parts for your car. However, the majority of its parts are meant for its aerodynamics. First seen on the TRD GR Supra Performance Line Concept, the parts include the front carbon fibre spoiler that is supposed to reduce lift at high speed and lowers the ride height by 14mm. The side skirts do the same and makes the car lower as compared to stock by 4mm. We aren't so sure about the side door garnish which was designed to smoothly direct airflow to the rear end of the Supra. It makes the coupe look less sleek with it on in our opinion. Moving to the rear, the carbon fibre diffuser reduces ride height by 24mm, aiming to produce downforce in conjunction with the new boot spoiler. The forged aluminum wheels are new too and are 19-inch in size. These parts are only available in Japan for now and unfortunately, there are no performance parts that would increase its power output yet.

The New Subaru Legacy has finally been revealed in Chigago Auto Show last night. Exterior seems more like a facelift but is actually new. Interior takes a huge step forward. Looks premium. And for US, they will get the 2.4 litre turbo. Wonder if the Japan domestic market will have this turbo engine other than the improved 2.5 litre engine when it is launched. Azizul Hj Tandek, managing director of Enggang Keramat Automobile, told paultan.org that the company will be launching a new Malaysian car brand called SAF – named after the arrangement of Muslims in prayer – in April this year. The new lineup will consist of rebadged versions of models from the Chinese brand Foday, namely the Lion F22 pick-up truck and the Landfort seven-seater SUV. The two vehicles will be badged as the SAF Striker and SAF Landfort respectively, and will look identical to the Foday models, albeit with SAF badging. Both models will be built at Oriental Assemblers in Tampoi, Johor, the same company that also assembles Chery models in Malaysia. Only one engine will be available from launch – a Mitsubishi-derived 4G69S4N 2.4 litre petrol engine delivering 134 hp at 5,250 rpm and 200 Nm of torque from 2,500 to 3,000 rpm. Five-speed manual and six-speed automatic transmissions are on offer, as is a choice of either two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive (Striker pick-up will be 4×4 only). The Striker is expected to be priced below RM100,000, while the Landfort SUV is slated to cost less than RM150,000. Exact kit has yet to be decided, but both models should come with dual airbags and ABS with EBD; no stability control on offer, however. New 'Mutant Enzymes' Could Solve Earth's Plastics ProblemScientists accidentally created an enzyme that can break down plastic. But is it any better than recycling? You might call it a happy accident: As environmentalists urge the world to address the plastic pollution crisis, a team of researchers has unwittingly engineered an enzyme that may, one day, literally eat our troubles away. Biologists at the U.K.’s University of Portsmouth were studying the structure of an enzyme that can break down polyester when they found a way to tweak it. The result, according to a study published this week in the Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences, is a “mutant enzyme” that can degrade plastics 20 percent more efficiently than its original form. The enzyme comes from a bacteria, Ideonella sakaiensis 201-F6, which was discovered in 2016 by Japanese researchers, who subsequently found that it could completely break down a thin layer of low-quality plastic within six weeks. Structural biologist John McGeehan and his team have now taken that enzyme and genetically engineered it so that it can begin the process in a matter of days. That kind of discovery is cause for excitement: It takes centuries for polyester, scientifically known as polyethylene terephthalate or PET, to degrade naturally. All this is just the beginning, though. McGeehan told the Guardian that his team wants to speed up the process even more, and find ways to scale it for industrial use. More importantly, the team imagines that the research can help prevent more plastic from entering the market in the first place. “What we are hoping to do is use this enzyme to turn this plastic back into its original components, so we can literally recycle it back to plastic,” McGeehan told the Guardian. To grasp what that would mean for the environment, just consider this startling statistic: 1 million plastic bottles are produced each minute. Roughly 10 percent of that gets recycled; the rest ends up in landfills, oceans, and parks. What is recycled often gets used in textiles, like clothes and carpets. Guys, my nine year old Sylphy is giving me problems so I need to get a new car asap. I am looking for a reliable and cheap to maintain car for my family, two adults two kids. Don't care how it looks or how the drive is. I usually service with the authorised dealer so servicing is a concern too. Budget is flexible but looking at the cheaper models unless the more expensive one is very fuel efficient or reliable. I am thinking like Toyota or Honda. hi, my son is getting his driving license soon. do i need to add his name into my motor insurance if he drives only occasionally (weekly) and when i am sitting beside him? how much would it costs (estimate) to add a new driver who is 18 onto my existing motor insurance coverage? my current coverage is $600+ what if (touch wood) when his name is not included in my motor insurance and we hit someone when he was the driver, would the insurance still cover us? am not sure about the insurance coverage now comparing to my time when i was a teen driving my dad's car.
