Was just thinking abt the low COE. Just realized that is spell bad news for quite alot of new car owners with the exception of those that got high rebate frm the lower COE price. The effect of the low COE will affect those that bought car 2 mths before and those going to buy in these 2 mths after this drop. Why do i say so? this is because, their car trade-in value will be affected. You may think that the car has higher paper value but think again. Will buyer be willing to pay for the higher paper value. Probably not. They will probably compare the car with the lower COE which will has lower depreciation rate. Take for example, 3yr later : CAR A : COE = $7.7 .. selling at 30k .. yr dep = 1.1k+ X amt CAR B : COE = $3.65 ... selling at 27k ... yr dep only 520 + X I would think probably CAR A trade-in priace will be revised to be closer to CAR B. So as to be a more attractive buy. this drop in COE is no good news.
