The six thirty Chinese news reported that many car dealers are desperate and worried about the reduced impending quota cut. As of now...margins already low and not making money. So hope to seek gov understanding to ease the pain. Let's see......if gov is firm on the cut.....sure some dealers will be suffering for the next three years. Survival for the fittest. -

SINGAPORE - Singapore's founding leader Lee Kuan Yew is fighting a neurological disease that is making it difficult for him to walk steadily, his daughter revealed Sunday. Lee, who turned 88 in September, suffers from sensory peripheral neuropathy, his physician daughter Lee Wei Ling, director of the National Neuroscience Institute of Singapore, wrote in her weekly Sunday Times newspaper column. "In my father's case, sensory peripheral neuropathy has caused the conduction of sensation from his legs to his spinal cord to be impaired. This makes his walking unsteady, as many Singaporeans have already noticed," she wrote. The column, which deals with a wide range of issues, is closely followed for glimpses into the private life of Singapore's most influential family. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong is the columnist's elder brother. Lee Kuan Yew retired from the Cabinet after general elections in May but continues to travel overseas and remains a member of parliament, a post he has held since 1955. He served as prime minister from 1959 to 1990. "His day-to-day condition now fluctuates. On some days he is fairly steady and on other days his balance is poor. The problem is limited to the sensory nerves outside his central nervous system," his daughter wrote. "His brain and muscles are working normally. But being deprived of sensation from his legs means he finds it a challenge to balance. Thus his unsteady walk," she said. Mr Lee, however, is determined to fight the disease and now practises walking on a treadmill at home three times a day without fail. "I have no doubt my father will fight this disease for as long as he thinks he can contribute to Singapore," his daughter said. "I think with medication and simple precaution, he can continue to be of service to his country and the world."

A cabby reportedly dumped a passenger's computer's CPU in the carpark, leaving it in the rain, while he carried other things up to his flat. The passenger, Approximus, wrote in to Stomp to air his grievances. He told Stomp that on Oct 17, he was moving his desktop PC to a new place and flagged down a blue Comfort cab at 3.50pm. Kang Jianlin fled on Tuesday as he was being escorted from Guangdong province to Henan province to face charges of rape. The 46-year-old had been eating lunch with four police officers at a restaurant in Wuhan, Hubei province, when he asked for his handcuffs to be removed and to use the toilet. After 10 minutes, an officer posted outside a second-floor bathroom looked in and discovered Kang had escaped through a window. He was seen running into a community in Donghu district. Police officers have made great efforts to find the suspect, but no clues have so far been detected, said Pan Feng, publicity director for Wuhan public security bureau. Although there are almost 10 surveillance cameras installed in the community, not one captured the suspect running away, Wuhan Evening Post reported, citing a security guard surnamed Shu as its source. Authorities distributed Kang's photo and a description of what he was wearing to the public on Wednesday. The suspect was described as being 1.68 meters tall, having short-cropped hair and wearing a white T-shirt and gray cropped trousers. He was barefoot at the time of his escape. Residents have been urged to call the 110 emergency hotline if they see him. A warrant for Kang's arrest was issued 17 years ago by the Tanghe county public security bureau in Henan province following allegations he committed statutory rape. Kang evaded detection for almost two decades by working as a casual laborer in Guangdong and as a painter at a toy factory. He was eventually detained in the city of Shantou on Sept 18 and was due to face trial in Tanghe. To guarantee the safety of residents, patrols in the community around where Kang escaped have been stepped up, said authorities. Police added that they believe Kang will not be able to get far because he has no money or identification.

Reviewing of Central Provident Fund scheme Published on Aug 22, 201 By Janice Tai The government is reviewing the Central Provident Fund (CPF) scheme as life expectancy in Singapore increases to 85 and beyond, said BG (NS) Tan Chuan-Jin, Minister of State for Manpower and National Development on Monday on the sidelines of the Ee Peng Liang Memorial Fund Forum at the National University of Singapore. At the forum, NUS alumnus Mr Ng Kok Hoe, who was awarded the Ee Peng Liang Memorial Fund Scholarship last year to pursue doctoral studies in Social Policy at the London School of Economics, presented findings from his research. He found that the number of elderly who are living with their children in Singapore is declining. He said that this finding is significant because living with their children boosted the incomes of the elderly and improved their income security. As our retirement income system is built on the fact that children will provide for their parents and grandparents, he questioned the sustainability of our current retirement income system. In his speech at the forum, BG Tan noted that Singapore is currently meeting the challenges of increasing longevity. One of the ways in which the government is tackling such challenges is encouraging family support. He said that we have schemes such as the Minimum Sum Topping-Up Scheme (MSTU), for members to voluntarily top up the CPF accounts of their family members, especially those who are not working or unable to work. ................................................................................ ...................................................................
