Hi guys have been calling LTA but the customer service officer seem buay zhai one.. everything also need to check and get back.. so i am posting the question here to see if anyone has done this before, just to make sure, as I do not want to make a wasted trip to LTA just because they give me wrong info basically, mine is a normal car and i'm going to convert to OPC. My current road tax is expiring in April (hit 3 years in april) If i renew my OPC road tax now, it will be for one year starting in Feb but my car insurance is also expiring in Apr and my veh inspection is coming soon i guess.. coz in 3 years? so in order to convert to OPC, i must get ready and confirm a new motor insurance, specify a date, for e.g. 10th Feb 2010, and go to LTA to convert to OPC? Meaning my new road tax and car insurance will be valid from 10th Feb 10 and renew on this date every year? what about the 3 year upcoming motor inspection? so that means technically, if i drive for 10 years, my last car road tax and ins will end in Feb, but my deregistration will be in Apr??? Appreciate your inputs thanks
  3. Hi Bros, Any one know how does it work? For eg, http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.ph...938&DL=2080 pay $7k for conversion to normal plate. that means its about 35k for that rex. It also stated, take back 14k after COE expires. Any cons to such a deal? what do i lose? what do i gain? and lastly, any experience with this dealer? *8 motor trading Cheers.
  4. Hi sgarmart moderators/owners I am a frequent visitor/user of sgcarmart and I would like to strongly suggest that you include an additional filter for Normal and OPC cars. Usually potential buyers would already have decided whether they want normal car or opc car hence being unable to filter out the unwanted type makes the search more tedious. Eg. someone looking for a cheap old normal car just to get from Point A to Point B may put in a $30,000 to $40,000 as budget criteria but in the end his search results will include many OPC cars which he doesn't want to consider. Hope you will take my suggestion into serious consideration. Thanks and keep up the good work!
  5. Hi bros, I am facing this scenaio. Anyone come across this before? Is this normal? Scenario - A lorry bang me from behind. I went to workshop. Workshop repair my ride. Ask me to pay access. Then they do 'own claim' followed by claiming against the lorry's insurer. My insurance renewal is coming up. My insurance said that my NCD drop from 50% to 20%. I would have to pay a higher premium 1st. Then after they successfully claim against the other insurer, they will revert my NCD to 50% and pay me back the additional amount that I paid. My questions - Is this the normal way of processing? I had never done a claim in 12 years of driving. If I don't renew and go to a new insurer, I would lugi right? Coz the new insurer can revert my NCD to 50% meh? Can anyone help me out here? Cheers~~
  6. Please do not say : 1) Buy your own oil and change is cheapest.... 2) Buy oil and filter and pay someone $10-$20 for the labour... 2) Go to JB.... 3) No need to change !!!! Just curious to find out what is the best offer for a normal oil change currently....

Just wanna check with all Optra (auto) owners: When gear is in "D" and you slowly move off from standstill by very, very gradually releasing your foot brake, I get this loud metal crunching noise. I brought this up to the SE at Ubi and Alexandra branch, and both got the standard "It's like that" response, claiming other Optras and other cars (with auto trans) have this same problem......"it's normal" they say. My golden question: Do you guys have this noise problem too?

  12. Hi all, getting another car as current car going to the metal grave in a few days time, was thinking of getting a 2007 OPC car and asking the dealer to convert to normal plate for me. Like to kindly check if I will still get back any money upon de-registration from Ah Gong??? Sorry for noob qns as current car is COE car, thus not too sure

Hi all, I intend to convert my parents OPC to normal plate. they are retired and will be using the car for sending/fetching grand children to school. what are the steps involved? i have called insurer, they have advised accordingly. i went one motoring, have gotten the calculation for how much to pay. what about stuff like car plate ? will LTA remove the OPC seal on the car plate?

  16. hi all... serious question... dont mind pls no lecture inputs on how dangerous blah blah blah... many thanks... CTE after braddell exit... about 12 midnight... road condition dry... white Avente signal right and cut straight into my lane... my speed was too fast so in order not to brake i had to change lane... so i passed the Avente close and rev rev... he immediately sped up to catch up with me... i was quite in front so i slowed dwn and waited... when he approached we were next to each other at AMK ave1 exit 4th lane... he blast all the way to 1st lane and i blast behind... out of a sudden suddenly very heavy down pour while i was climbing the up slope... full throttle at either 3-4 gear... (the avente was fast... or maybe i was slow...) just before the road was to end its upslope.... i 'hao' abit the clutch... and i confirmed the tyres spin... i lost grip.... the avente zoomed off... like when you throw your clutch at a traffic light on a wet day... but this time was at 100+km/h CTE 1st lane... it was not scary, but i was like what the hell sia... is it normal?... cause upslope/rain just started/i full blast and 'hao' a bit of clutch.... or simply tires F#$%ked up?... confirm was not clutch slipping.... was it a normal incident?...
  17. some quick question there are 3 models in my mind - C4 Grand Picasso , Peugeot 5008 & VW Touran ..... i'm comparing them with my tucson in terms of carrying say 4 adults and 2 children , my ride seems to struggle with the weight although its an new improved 2 litre engine what about those that are 1.6 & 1.4 turbo charged ? can they easily handle it effortlessly even with a lower capacity engine ? ? please comment ..thanks

  20. Cause my Satria Neo is getting just 12.5KM/L, 100% city driving. Manual somemore. Its kind of low. I thought the norm should be 14-15KM/L??
  21. hi all, i just had my ge6 brake pad changed today. i changed to normal original one, which i bought from a spare part shop in waterloo centre... went to my usual mechanic and asked him to change... it was not that biting for the first few KMs... it is fine now, however, i smell a very bad odour upon getting out of car... is it normal? or is it that my usual mechanic tightened it so tight that pad rubs against the rotor when the car is moving??? pls advise... im noob to this...
  22. Hi, Recently I changed my tyres and it came filled with Nitrogen gas. However, when I sent in for my routine servicing at my AD workshop last month, the guys there told me they don't have Nitrogen gas n hence will not touch my tyres as the readings will be very different on the sensor. My Qns: - If that is the case, can I still go to the petrol kiosk n pump in normal air? n Should I follow strictly to 230? (I used to pump 230 on my old tyres) - My old 15" I used to pump 230, I just upsize to 16"..do I still pump at the same amount? ie. 230. Thanks

I intend to buy a used car and then convert it to OPC. what i am not clear is that, in order to buy the car and transfer to my name, i have to have new insurance and road tax paid, which will cover 1 year. So in that case, what if i what to convert the car into OPC immediately? since OPC insurance and road tax are less than normal car. will i get back the extra insurance and road tax i pay for a normal car? ask the seller to convert into OPC 1st, then i buy? any bro have any exp. to share? thx.
