  1. Sorry if this question was asked before. if i want to buy a normal plate 2nd hand and wish to convert it to OPC. will the car agent do it for me and how much will it cost? if i buy direct from the owner, how do i proceed with this? can check with LTA? thanks.
  2. halo need advice from Lancer GLX owners My bro is buying a Lancer GLX, but he is contemplating whether or not to get the Sports Edition that comes with more stuffs but at a 5k premium. The additional add on for Sports Edition are 1. Full body kit 2. Leather interior 3. Better quality dashboard panel 4. Sports RIM 5. Keyless entry 6. Additional airbag How much does all these cost, except the airbag, if we are to get it done elsewhere?
  3. Hi bros, what type of cars do you own? Notice that this thread allows multiple answers. So you may select both OPC and normal plate cars if u own both. This poll serves as an estimate of the ratio. =)
  4. say we do a conversion, you will be topping up to convert. so in the same sense, the paper value will increase right?
  5. I've been searching for a normal plate 2nd hand car and recently has come across this 2-yrs-old OPC car which just fit into my criteria - main reason is that the OPC car would be around $1K cheaper than the normal ones at same condition. But I am not sure if it will worth all the trouble to buy & then covert to a normal car (in order to save just 1K?) Already checked the conversion procedure and it doesn't look too difficult. But still have a few questions and hope those who have done it before can help me to answer them. 1. Will it affect the insurance premium? Appearantly I have to insure it when it's still an OPC. But after the conversion, will they increase the premium? 2. Will it affect the paper value or scrap value of the car when it's being sold a few years down the road or scrapped at the end of the COE life? 3. test drive - the dealer says normally ppl don't test drive their cars which are younger than 3 yrs coz they are still under factory warranty. but I don't think so! I think that cannot be true. How many of you have ever bought an 2nd hand car without testing drive it? The trouble is the OPC can only be driven after 7PM which means the dealer has to close shop late for me. Don't think they want to do it, neither they would pay a coupon just for me to test drive. Have anyone encountered such situation before? 4. since LTA only take cheque or cash, can I get a bank loan for the OPC to Normal car top up? alternatively I can drive the OPC for a few more months and save enough cash for the conversion. Seemingly the dealer is trying to clear the OPC off their hand becoz it has been listed on Sgcarmart for nearly 2 months! hope that's not their gimmick. Thanks!
  6. As of topic, wat's the difference between the sports model and the normal edition? Is it still worth it to buy 1 one when there's the EX? Budget quite tight lately, dun wanna spend more than 55k on a car.
  7. I was quoted recently for respraying my car. 1k for same colour (white) 1.6k for pearl white. Im very tempted to go for the latter, heard its a very nice colour. But i havent a chance to see this colour on the road lei. Maybe i too kuku cant tell the diff. Anyways, i will need to respray my car. The ex-owner did a damn cheapo lousy job. The paint conidtion is worstening by the days. Fellow bros, please comment on Pearl White....be it good or bad.
  8. If I were to convert my car to OPC, what type of rebate will LTA give and how will it affect the COE and OMV value? I am also taking a loan. Do I need to get the approval of the bank before I do the conversion? I have already sent an email to LTA but so far no response from them.
  9. hope some bros here driving this exact model can contribute... thks
  10. I am based overseas currently but will be relocated back to sg next week haiz...Need to buy a car again (sold off my Altis when I left sg and loss almost 30K over 2.3 years ) and been having discussions with CO over car purchase. Btw, I have 2 kids and a domestic helper. OPC vs Normal I personally prefer an OPC since my office is in town area and too expensive to drive to work. Moreover, I need to travel almost 2-3 times/month so I dun see the needs to have a normal car and park it at home most of the times. CO prefer a normal car as this allow her to use the car during daytime if the needs arise, although she herself also admit she won't use it too much. Her main argument is that OPC only can use after 3pm on saturday which is too late since my elder daughter will be attending some enrichment class on Saturday at 3pm. She said "why get a car when we can't use it when we need it" New or Used Both myself and CO agreed to get used car, be it normal or OPC car. 1st, we not too sure how long we gonna keep the car and who know I might get another overseas posting in few years time. 2nd, we would like to minimise car loan, or lagi better, dun take loan at all if possible. We still have about 25-30K cash balance from the sales of the Altis. However, my only concern is that if we decide to get OPC used car, I will loss out on the $17K upfront cash rebate. Is my thinking rational? Is there any difference in gettinga new OPC or a used OPC, say 2-3 years old car. Who Want to Sell Lastly, anyone here selling their ride, preferably 2-3 year old. Any model also will consider as long as can sit 4-5 pax comfortably. so smaller car like picanto, getz is out. Sorry, no cheena car too. I'm not those really into car performance, handling etc etc and as for fuel consumption also not a top priority since I will not use it everyday. I am trying not to buy from dealer since their mark-up is crazy. Prefer to buy direct from owners. Thanks all....please kindly advise and comment....kum siah mak mak..
  11. I have seen my fair share from riding to driving... Vans/Lorries just somehow hold up middle lanes in expressways and think they are travelling very fast when i can overtake and zoom past them on the 3rd/4th lane but only doing 90-100km/hr... Hoggers hog 1st lane all the way travelling @ 60-85km/hr till god knows where... somemore in front of them the vehicle is either far far away or no vehicle... Is it because of them tat cause the jams in sg roads? since the vans/lorries like to take middle lane dan we give them the high-speed 1st lane to travel and we go to most left lane travelling faster dan them... Just seen one tis morning coming to work on PIE(changi), this uncle in front of me driving a liteace and straight away enter from kim keat signal and go all the way out to middle lane when he's only doing 50km/hr... not saying tat vans/lorries cant travel middle lane but only for overtaking even slower vehicles dan them but not all the way stick to middle lane and make drivers like me frustrated... i cant go 1st lane as there are hoggers and middle lane these guys are holding up, so left with left most lane where i need to change to middle lane after overtaking these vans/lorries and get to their front when vehicles on left most lane travel slower.... What is this? Gracious society? I would rather put it tis way as Bo-chup society...
  12. Dear All, Need advice on OPC conversation. Currently have a 3 yrs old Mit Colt (normal car). Have not been fully utilized it as I do not drive on weekdays. After work reach home also do not have the energy to go out. On weekend sometime use it on Saturday morning and mostly use it on Sunday only. Mostly use it for family outing. Question. 1) is it worth to convert my current car to OPC which have the following advantage
  13. Generally, due to the restricted use of an OPC car, the mileage of a 3-year old OPC car is typically lower than a normal-plate vehicle (assuming the ex-owner did not drive to Malaysia too frequently). During the day, I observe that most OPC cars are parked in sheltered car park. Hence, OPC cars are usually better in terms of physical condition. If one is thinking of buying a 3-year old car, is it worthwhile (financially-speaking) to buy a second hand OPC car and then convert it to normal usage? Maybe we can take a year 2005 Altis as a platform for discussion. Comments anyone?
  14. Below is a post I am posting on behalf of anotner MCF member who cannot post due to insufficient posts. Please note it is not mine. ================================================================================ ==== HI Everyone! I got thoughts regarding OPC and i had e-mail LTA my thoughts and hope the outcome would be positive for all owners of OPC and would be OPC owners DEAR LTA, I would like to know what is the actual meaning of "The gaverment has previously announced that the automatic conversion of Weekend Cars (WECs) to normal cars (NCs) would be effected when the Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) scheme is implemented island-wide. This is expected to take place beyond year 2000." This is an extraction from 1 motoring. Does it means that ERP gantries have to be set up at every carpark entrance island wide in Singapore? From my point of view now i could see ERP gantries at majority parts of singapore already. Major expressways, thomson road, bukit timah, kallang and many more. Some are operating late into the night as well. I would like to know the exact meaning of "Island wide" stand of the goverment. Also i would appeal to LTA to allow the full day use of OPC for saturday usage as traffic on Saturday is low apparently which is why i think LTA recently lifted the bus lanes restriction hours for saturday and no ERP gantries are in operation on saturday. Also freeing up saturday for OPC usage in my opinion will enhance Goverment sector/some Public sector companies 5 day work week policy which encourage family bonding and maybe even higher birth rates as most owners of OPC are those with family and kids who would appreciate the extra morning available to them to bring the entire family for an fullfiling outing to the ZOO,Discovery center etc.... which can in turn help in hitting the 6 million population figure sooner and not to rely so much on foreigners. All these points i think is a WIN WIN situation for the Nation and the people. The people will very much appreciate this if my appeal to LTA is granted.
  15. Question: I buy a 2nd hand opc car, but want to convert to normal plate. can it be done?

  19. Homeless man charged with raping sleepwalking college student Wed, Nov 21, 2007 AP (Associated Press) CINCINNATI - A HOMELESS man was indicted on charges that he raped a college student while she was sleepwalking along a highway near her home. The woman - a 23-year-old University of Cincinnati student - woke up during the attack and fought back but could not get away, said Hamilton County prosecutor Seth Tieger. Dexter Ford, 52, was also charged on Tuesday with felonious assault because he knew he was HIV-positive, Mr Tieger told The Cincinnati Enquirer. Police said Ford told them that he is HIV positive, and Hamilton County Municipal Judge Fanon Rucker ordered Ford to be tested for venereal diseases. It was not clear if the woman has been tested. Ford was indicted by a grand jury on two charges of rape, attempted rape, kidnapping and felonious assault. He faces as many as 46 years in prison if convicted on all counts. His attorney, Jeff Adams, said the case will centre on the woman's state. 'How is he to know she is sleepwalking, if it's a dream 'yes' or a real 'yes?' he said. The prosecutor said the woman did not consent to sex, and anyone seeing her in her sleepwalking state would have known that something was wrong. 'It's not like she was carrying on a normal conversation,' Mr Tieger said. The woman was walking near Interstate 71 at about 3.30am Nov 8, police said. Two passing motorists phoned police to report that a man was on top of a woman. It was not the first time the woman, who has epilepsy, has wandered outside her home while sleepwalking, Mr Tieger said. -- AP ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ She was lucky to survive 'sleep-walking' on the road

  21. Hi Guys, i would like to know more information about the conversion. Does anyone know how much do i have to pay and stuffs? Hope someone can give me some few pointers in how to go about it and more information on what do i have to take note of and etc. One more question. Do i have to pay the "unused" portion of the OPC rebate back immediately? Or are there any installment plans etc etc.
  22. Hey brothers, Anyone can help me out here, i am considering of converting my car to an OPC cos i may be posting to another branch near my house and most probably wouldnt be driving to work. I check out the information, understood the road tax rebate, but the part in red i highlighted below, i really dont understand plus i dont understand PARF in the first place. Anyone noes what happens to the COE, do u get some refund? there wasnt any mention in the info provide by onemotoring. Thanks, really appreciate for any replys, especially those who have made the switch. ============================================== If you find that you're not using your car as much as when you first bought it, you can actually convert it into an Off-Peak Car. You have to seek written approval from the Land Transport Authority to go ahead with this, though, but once you've been given the go-ahead, things are relatively painless. With LTA's approval, you can then proceed to change your car's license plate to the special red OPC plate, and have it sealed at any one of LTA's authorised inspection centres. To complete the conversion, you have to provide the LTA with supporting documents (as described in the approval letter) as well as a $100 conversion fee. The catch is that while you do get an $800 discount off your annual road tax liability (subject to a minimum payment of $50) you don't enjoy tax rebates on your car's COE quota premium or Additional Registration Fee. However, you are eligible for an additional Preferential Additional Registration Fee benefit on top of the normal PARF rebate if you choose to deregister the car before its 10th year of registration. To calculate the additional PARF benefit, multiply the time, in months, that your car spent as an OPC up to the date of deregistration by ($2,200/12). For example, if you had converted your car to an OPC on the 1st September 2002 and deregistered it on 15th September 2006, you stand to receive an additional PARF benefit of $8,892. Here's how it's calculated: The period your car spent as an OPC: 1st September 2002 to 15th September 2006 = 4 years, 15 days = (48 + 15/30) months = 48.5 months Additional PARF benefit = 48.5 x ($2,200/12) = $8,892
  23. Dear all, Just a newbie question to ask bros and sis. Can brake fade occur in normal road usage and street driving? My current brake is such that the pedal travel feel is a bit spongy and when I depressed my pedal to stop the car, it still can stop lah but not effective. Yesterday, I almost hit a car cos I step on my brakes but somehow my car couldn't stop and I had to stomp on my brakes a second time for it to stop.....I ask one experienced driver and was recommended to upgrade my brake system and which I am looking around now. I constantly tap my brakes and brake very often and sometimes can be hard. Still on stock pads and stock hose and stock rotor. I just service my car (20k servicing) 6 weeks ago and my stock pads are still okay and good as informed by the mechanic.
