  5. I wanted to change batteries for my wife's car, and decided on AA. I was shocked out of my skin when I was quoted $153 for a 45mAH Amron maintenance free battery. Has prices soared? 4 yrs ago, I got it for $90. Any recommendation of "trustworthy" battery shop in the West region?
  6. Hi all, Not sure anyone notice, Serangoon North CNG Station Opened liao Good news for CNG cars drivers.
  7. Posting at Lite and EZ would be an understatement. So i wanna share my close encounter on the North South Highway during my return trip this Sunday afternoon. Was driving on the middle lane of the 3 lane highway and following other vehicles at a slow pace (est bet 80/90kmh or lesser) during a heavy downpour at Malacca. The visibility was poor, at most one lamp post. Just then, saw a Hyundai Tucson overtook on my left at a very high speed, within seconds, i notice on the left lane ahead, a pair of headlights, turning in circle! OMG it's the same vehicle that had just overtook me on my left. It was spinning out of control. I pray very hard that it won't spin into my lane. My friend was traveling in another car just behind me. My heart rate jumped, I told my passenger that a car had spanned out of control and to brace for impact. The car did not skid into our lanes, but landed on the ditch next to the left lane. It flip several times before it came turned turtle, immediately white smoke was steaming from the engine bay (most probably is rain water evaporating from the hot engine). The only thing i could do was apply brake to slow down, not jam brake as the road was very wet, doing so could have caused my car to skid. This all happened in split seconds and by that time i had passed by the accident vehicle. Phew, I can't imagine the consequence had the car skidded into our lanes. It would have caused a chain collision and serious injuries to other road users. I immediate warned my friend on the WT, he replied he's OK, He saw the car in the ditch and someone had pulled over to help the victims. At first, i had cold sweat, but later turned to anger. The visibility was poor already due to the heavy down pour, imagine the car going at break neck speed in this condition is akin to driving blind folded. How can someone be so irresponsible to continue to drive a such high speed in bad weather conditions! Please Drive Responsibly
  8. Guys, I have always heard stories about the beemers 5/7 series, merk or Lexus being target and especially falling prey to crimes in Malaysia. I reckon the hit rate is one out of . . . maybe 500 such cars driven up north? Most of my friends thinks its an absolutely NO NO to drive these type of cars up, with a small majority says no problem at all, if kenna means, u r damn suay. So what do u guys think? I might be driving up alot more for work in the coming months so am thinking maybe get a smaller car.
  9. To the almost blind uncle who's driving a silver cerato along Bedok North Ave 3 (at the junction of the new PIE entrance) at approximately 2330H... You either need to get your vehicle's steering aligned or you should not drive at all... I'm the blue Honda Fit you nearly side swiped and I believed you heard me test my new horn... You seem to be not able to keep to your lane? I noticed that you are either driving in the middle of 2 lanes or just changing lanes here and there... If you haven't noticed that our gahmen has added an extra lane to the road and there's not merging lanes after the traffic junction... You still had the bloody cheek to stare at me at the Bedok Reservoir junction... Just ranting... No replies needed...
  10. As reported in today New Paper : 4 Hurt After S'pore Car Hits Trailer, Miracle Escape For Twin Babies....... The family of seven was heading home to Singapore after a three-day break at Genting Highlands. But they got only as far as Johor. Their Subaru Impreza car rammed into a moving trailer near Yong Peng in Johotr. The driver's mother and wife weere seriously injured and warded in a hospital at Muar. The driver's wife developed a blood clot in her brain from the impact, while his mother was badly hurt in the face. Miraculously, their 8-month-old twin boys and their maid escaped unhurt. Accident occurred at 4.30pm on Tuesday along the North-South Highway between Pagoh and Yong Peng. So, those bros & sis here who are driving , North during the school holidays (starting after tomorrow - last day of school), you do take care and drive carefully as raining seasons is here again. To enjoy the holiday trips, I rather drive it slow, easy and steady ...... Cheers & Happy Holidays .........

  12. Posted in the following blog on Monday, 7-July-2008 http://blog.limkitsiang.com/2008/07/07/nor...ghway-3rd-lanes Cross reference : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lebuhraya_utara-selatan North-south highway 3rd lanes I am a frequent user of our North-South Expressway and I have this IMPORTANT experience to highlight and share:- I was driving back to Penang yesterday afternoon ( 24 June 08 ) when I saw the unfortunate accident in the opposite direction involving the passenger bus that skidded and overturned at Tanjung Malim. I didn't know that the skidded bus was from hometown Penang until I watched TV3 news later in the evening and was shocked to learn that the accident took two lives. Now, this is what I need to share:- I am a building contractor with over twenty years of experience and I have been driving my 5 series BMW (latest generation and a dammed solid road-holding car) each time I travelled to KL. Lately, the new extended 3 lanes highway had been opened up for use and since then, I have also been using it quite often. HOWEVER, when I used it each time it is WET, I can really 'feel' that the new road surface is extremely SLIPPERY! To share with some of you, my car comes with a built-in traction control mechanism ( skidding prevention mechanism ) and you can feel it each time it is activated. Previously, I don't come across this kind of slippery feel except when I drive over a paddle of water at certain speed. From my observation as a building contractor, the 'wearing course' of the new road surface could be TOO FINE OR TOO SMOOTH and TOTALLY UNSUITABLE for highway use! The wearing course ( top premix layer ) mix design for highways should be of minimum 20mm coarse aggregate mix that will give us the required bond between the surface and our tyres. Fine wearing course ( 14mm coarse aggregate size and below ) is only suitable for normal road. ( A proper test need to be carried out to determine the mix design of the wearing course ). Since the opening of the three lanes highway, I had seen cars skidding in front me or in the opposite direction and approximately 2 weeks ago, one of my friends who is also a frequent user of our NSE, came to share with me about his slippery feeling as well as the many skidded cars he had seen lately. I am highlighting this to TV3 and The Star with the hope that a thorough investigation could be carried out immediately to find out how or what causes the bus to skid. A proper and independent test need to be carried out urgently to determine the design mix of the wearing course. THIS CAN SAVE LIVES. IF YOU ARE USING THE NEW LANES AND IF IT IS WET, MAKE SURE YOU DRIVE SLOWLY!!!!
  13. Hi Guys, I'm thinking of a driving holiday in USA, mainly because USD is lower as compared to euro and i hope fellow forummers here can share their experiences and the logistics involved. I have a few places in mind, but they are scattered all over the compass directions on the map, namely, 1) New York City, 2) Yellowstone National Park, 3) San Fransico, Los Angeles 4) Miami If there are more interesting places to visit, please do add in your replies as well.] Types of places I prefer to visit are natural attractions, and city centers with skyscrapers. The target date is around mid july, and i can have about 3 weeks to a month to spare. I'm not sure if i can rent a car over there to do minor cross state trips and if roadside bed and breakfast inns are available, or safe. I would also like to find out if trans state flights across america can be easily done with a singapore passport. Thanks guys!
  14. Any idea if there is pasat malam market in Hougang, SengKang, Serangoon or AMK area now? Need to source for some items. Thanks.
  15. My daughter's favourite teacher has left for her kindergarten class. The new teacher is young and inexperienced who doesn't seems to be competent. She told me that she will be the permanent teacher for long. I have heard positive feedbacks on Church kindergarten. Anyone has any recommendation for those in North? Thanks everyone.
  16. I'm going to start queueing for my CNG Conversion YEAH!
  17. I'm thinking of installing back my original extractor+cat back due to upcoming inspection. Wanna do it in SG instead of going back to workshop in JB. Any recommendation for workshop that does so in the Northern region?
  18. Just wondering is it worth pumping the above if one visit M'sia... if not which petrol is recommended??
  19. This morning I was very angry when I nearly met accident again at the junction of the bedok north ave. This is my second time within 2 weeks ever since the road construction was carried out at the junction. Currently, there are 3 lanes. Rightmost one suppose to turn right only. But some idiot just want to test other people's patient by cutting into the lane that go straight. Luckily i step brake in time when I saw this Kia Picanto abruptly cut into my lane this morning. It was just a feet away to accident. I overtook her (aunty around 50 that look blur and stupid ) and stop by the road side. I went to her and question her why she did that. She claimed that she is not aware. My question to her is you should stay at home and don't drive as she is a dangerous driver. Luckily she apologised to me and i let her go. I just want to bring attention to driver who are travelling toward bedok reseviour road stay alert when moving off the junction. Because you don't know when and who the idiot will just cut into your lane suddenly and claim that not knowing it is a right turn lane.
  20. i haven't done any real calculations. but can we save money getting from 2nd link? i'm discounting the 1st link as the jam damn heavy. but 2nd link seems to have a gas station near it. my take is 2nd link has some distance for traveling but at least its a smooth drive. wonder if toll and cashcard will make it less worth it to get petrol
  21. Last week, I went up Malaysia to several places for over 4 days. Guess what cars I saw...and the location. 1) Genting Highland, Singapore OPC Chery QQ 2) Penang Bridge, Singapore KIA Rio 2) At Penang Island, Singapore Toyota Starlet (EP70) 3) Butterworth, Singapore Hyundai Getz. 4) Near Thai Border, Singapore Nissan March K11. 5) KL Downtown, Singapore Honda Jazz. 6) KL Downtown, near to HardRockCafe, Singapore Chery QQ. 7) Desaru, Singapore Subaru R2. I saw many other usual cars like SG Altis, Sunny, Civic....etc. But seeing the above cars in their respective location really amazed me. Especiallly the QQ I saw outside Highland Hotel at Genting, WOW!!! Pardon me if I sound like a Sua Ku, but the distance travelled for these cars are really a feat!
