  1. Road tax renewal requires a valid number plate seal inspection certificate Can anyone let me know where to get this? Do i have to go to Sin Ming? Should i book any time slot in advance? How long it might take? Thanks for your feedback.
  2. I think even stock WRX's will think twice before running with these guys
  3. ...especially when it's prefixed with a "Z" and comes with upfront with a 2.5 lump and a canvas barrier separating one's physical top from the elements ? Good point to consider when one sets off on a fault-finding session, isn't it? First, the insides - dark, no-nonsense interior lifted tastefully with a generous swathe of brushed metal provides a great visual primer to the driving experience. Being a peasant-spec (by Bimmer standards, anyway) means the BMW "Business" single slot in-dash CD player (don't know if there was a changer elsewhere, don't care) and the obvious absence of the iDrive, which, to my eyes, makes for a far more pleasant visual experience. And, whoa! What's this? Smooth-action cupholders? Along with the all-round soft-touch texturing, well-fitting panels - feels like old-school pre-Bangled BM...waitaminute, I digress. Flamed surface or not, who gets into roadsters for the touchy-feely stuff or fall in love with the lack of boot space? No steering wheel shifters? No problem. A firm tug of the stocky BMW-standard shifter to "D" and floor it - that's all the initiation one needs to truly appreciate the eagerness of the 190-odd horses beneath the hood. Totally adequate on its less-sporty brethren, the 2.5 comes alive with every dab of the pedal. Decently docile in low-rev start-stop driving, the engine was definitely meant for the open roads, where higher revs open up a whole range of noises which my vocabulary is totally inadequate for. Of course, the Hamann exhaust helped quite a bit, too. And also, top-up, there wasn't a trace of dashboard squeak even when hitting the bridge gaps along the highway overpasses as slightly illegal speeds. Matching the eager-revving lump upfront is the amazingly responsive steering which, despite slightly oversized tyres allround, gives a whole new meaning of "point-and-squirt" driving to me. In fact, the only thing holding me back from playing the idiot from over-enthusiastic last-minute lane changing in city traffic was the humongous nose which seemed to stretch over the horizon - more than once did I wonder if the front end would literally kiss the car in front. Plus the low-slung seating position, lovely as it is when driving, and a blind spot which to me felt more like a blind zone, city driving can be most exciting. One minor-major gripe I have is with the 18" CSC2's which, on less perfect roads, feel like they're transmitting every kink and pebble on the surface to every contact point the car has with the driver. While some would find it perfect when feeling out the roads while driving on the edge but me thinks could get a bit tedious on the daily grind back home from work. Gripes? Typically insignificant ones - boot's too small (unless the roof's up, when it's decent but still insufficient for my child seat ), no space in the back (no back seats, actually, which I really need), road noise even at moderate speeds (okay, so the tyres may be to blame for this....) which could get a tad tiring on long journeys. And oh, the silly weather which prevented prolonged open-air driving. Having experienced two-thirds of CAR's roadsters of year collection 2004 (anyone care to "donate" a Boxter to complete the experience ? ), I must admit my exposure to this segment of the market is more limited than the choices available. However, taking it in isolation, any points the Z loses out in the cabin experience is easily offset by the driving experience which, for the lack of words, really needs to be experienced. To-date, the DesignWorks flame surfacing and retro-roadster profile still divides opinion, so many years after its launch and, that, good or bad, to me, is something worth giving credit for - how many non-Bangle-influenced cars (apart from, sorry guys, I had to say it - the Rodius? ) have divided opinion as such? So what's wrong with the 4? Nothing significant to mention, at least to me, really. I think the problem's with me - my lifestyle so doesn't suit it.
  4. Just wondering the breakdown of the active Skoda owners in here.
  5. i saw on some cars those plate number with black background and the number pop out.. looks cool.. those are legal right? where to get it?
  6. I've seen certain cars, like evos, rx8 and alfas, which have their veh reg number stuck onto the front bumper instead of a conventional plate. Is this simply a sticker? And is it legal if the font size is the same as normal?
  7. ... at least according to CAR magazine. In the October issue, the Mazda was up against the Zafira 2.2, Grand Scenic 2.0 and Corolla Verso 1.8 (an MPV version of the Rolla that we don't get here). Here's a summary of what they said: Vauxhall (Opel) Zafira - "The A-pillar... is capable of hiding a car from view. But the erogonomics are miles better than the Astra's, as everything is now higher up the dashboard. "The third row of seats is surprisingly usable, even for adults. It handles tidily, with little roll and plenty of grip. The 2.2 is torquey and refined, but fuel consumption isn't great." Renault Grand Sccenic - "The cabin is wonderfully airy next to the others, with excellent visibility and numerous clever touches. But... the Grand Scenic is smaller inside than its rivals. Removing (the middle row of seats) leaves an uneven floor, but the boot is big. "You like driving? Might want to give this one a wide miss. The chassis manages to be both soft and rattly, combining the worst of both worlds." Toyota Corolla Verso - "It probably won't break down, if that counts, and the hi-fi is surprisingly good. The cabin is well screwed together, and the materials of good quality. "The third row is not that great... you feel you're travelling third class. The boot space is well down on the rest. It's a decent A-to-B machine, rides bumps well, and the steering is accurate and well weighted." Mazda 5 - "Its twin sliding doors are really rather useful. The middle row folds into all sorts of clever shapes. Two things irk. One is the mard and shiny plastic in the cabin, the other is that the 5 sounds cheap. The third row seats are a good size and easily accessed. "The quick witted steering suggests agility, (the chassis) confirms it. MPVs aren't meant to be this much fun."
  8. hi there guys.. anyone noes where to make those chrome number plates and the price for a pair? THANX A LOT CHEERS
  9. Hello all prospective Skoda owners, I have been informed that all new Skodas will be delivered with plastic license plates. (Cost cutting measure by CA perhaps?) If you intend to get the embossed licence plates with the plastic frame bearing the words 'Skoda - Czech Autos', I would suggest that the SE is clearly informed while signing the sales contract. Best is to write down in black and white. Otherwise the default set of number plates will be the plastic ones. To fabricate a set of embossed number aluminium plates with decent quality will set you back around $60.
  10. saw a car with that plate .... ?? too bad, no passenger to take pic.
  11. Hi guys... I saw some very reflective number plates and you can hardly see their car number at night. I saw a Honda Jazz the other day with this plate. The numbers are so chrome that when their rear light shine onto the plate, the numbers look so reflective that you can't read anything. Infact, even when i was right behind it (while waiting for teh green light), I can't see the numbers clearly. Are such plates legal? because if they are, I want to one myself. I bet my fortune that the speed camera can never pick up the number.
  12. Hey guys, I was wondering if one of yuou could find out for me the GM part number of the bumper cover and the grille for the facelift Aveo? All it would take is a visit to local Chevy/ Daewoo dealer. Please PM me if anyone finds anything. Thank you for your help.
  13. Hey guys, I am at staying at Rasa Sentosa for the weekend. parked my car at the car park and saw a number of Chevy! Got a Vivant and some Aveo (both saloon and hatchback)! First time seen so many Chevy in a car park!
  14. Today evening at Orchard Road, saw a lone 7 series BMW with a "X OIC 38" car number plate. What is this?
  15. Can anyone advise how I go about bidding a new number? I'd like to have a new and nice number for my old car now so that when I change to new car in a couple of years, i can just transfer over.. Thanks.
  16. Dont quite like the following words appearing on my Optra's number plate (front and back): "StarsAuto - Home of Chevrolet" I suggested to SE that I preferred not to have such messages on the number plates before I took over the car but SE told me that the number plates are standard. What to do? I would have preferred something more neutral such as the one appearing on Matrix - "Designo di Pininfarina" - sounds more stylo. How to change hah?
  17. saw some cars had their number "engraved" on the bottom rear window; where i can get it done?
  18. Hi Does anybody know the formula to derive e reference alphabet of the car plate number?
