The COE quota for August to October will be 20,850, down from the 25,347 COEs from May to July, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced in a news release on Thursday (Jul 18). There will be a decrease in the number of COEs issued for every category. Category A, which is for cars up to 1,600cc and maximum power output not exceeding 97kW, will have a quota of 6,338 COEs, 25.8 per cent fewer than the previous quarter's 8,546. The average monthly quota is 2,112. Category B, which is for cars above 1,600cc or maximum power output above 97kW, will have a quota of 6,251, which is lower than the preceding quarter's 6,834. This works out to an average monthly quota of 2,083. Goods vehicles and buses in Category C will have a quota of 1,699, with an average monthly quota of 566. In Category D, which is for motorcycles, the COE quota is 4,433, down from last quarter's quota of 5,383. The average monthly quota for this quarter is 1,477. Open category vehicles will have a quota of 2,129, with an average monthly quota of 709. Source: CNA/aa(aj)

It is kinda disheartening to see the COE thread becoming 'battlefield" for some insensible individuals recently. There is never right or wrong with taking loan or paying full cash for car purchase, let alone the preference for new or used car, as every buyer has their own considerations and priorities. MCF is a free for all public forum, and no one is entitled to enforce his/her belief on others, just because it work well for them (for real or not is a separate matter as only god know). Do bear this in mind, One man's meat is another man's poison. Just like medications, what works for you might not work on others. Last, I am calling out to all participants in this thread. You CAN help to put a STOP to all these uncalled-for comments and name-calling (aka season greetings targeting at your parents), simply by ignoring them. I do hope this is the last time I have to write such lengthy "introduction message" every fortnightly... Bus and train fares up on 1 October Posted: 12 September 2008 1032 hrs Photos 1 of 1 SINGAPORE - Most bus and train journeys except those for children, students and national servicemen, will see fare changes from 1 October 2008. The Public Transport Council (PTC) has given the green light for an overall net fare adjustment that will result in fare changes that will range from a 7-cent reduction to a 4-cent increase per journey. Adult EZ-Link fares on buses and trains and the senior citizen concession EZ-Link fare, will see a flat increase of 4 cents per ride. However, this will be offset by the 15-cent increase in transfer rebate from the current 25 cents to 40 cents. Public transport operators have also decided that they will bear 10 cents out of the 15-cent increase in the transfer rebate. Therefore, fares for most adult or senior citizen concession journeys will see a range of adjustments, from an increase of 4 cents for a direct journey with no transfer, to a reduction of 7 cents for a journey with one transfer. According to the PTC, journeys with more transfers will see a greater fare reduction, ranging from 18 cents for a journey with two transfers and 29 cents if there are two transfers. To fund the higher transfer rebate, transport operators will give up more than $30 million in fare revenues annually. As for the remaining 5-cent increase in the transfer rebate, the PTC said it will be redistributed amongst commuters, as they will benefit from it. Chairman of the PTC, Gerard Ee said "by raising the transfer rebate this year and making the operators absorb a larger part of the cost, we managed to strike a balance and keep the overall net fare adjustment to just 0.7%, much lower than the fare cap of 3%."

Hi all, Still in Hari Raya mood? No one asking about COE at all? Anyway, COE bidding starts again today: 1) No major event, execpt SGD has climb back to SGD1 = 80 JPY ver SGD 1 = 76 JPY during the sub-prime crisis. 2) Stock market still cheong like mad 3) COE for Cat B drop about $2.4k last round but it seems the focus is on Cat A where quite a few promo are targetting Cat A cars 4) Quite a few talk on car sales slow down due to lesser can de-registered, not very sure how true
