  6. The Electric New Paper : Why post online if you can't take flamings? Netizens slam blogger who filed police report after she's 'flamed' for her photos and comments THE pictures were personal and revealing. When Michelle Quek, 18, put them up on her blog last year along with some comments about herself, she did not expect a fiery reaction. 06 April 2007 THE pictures were personal and revealing. When Michelle Quek, 18, put them up on her blog last year along with some comments about herself, she did not expect a fiery reaction. But that was exactly what she got. It became so bad she filed a police report. When she posted a copy on her blog, it sparked off another wave of 'flamings' against her for 'over-reacting.' Which raises the question: How far should one go to defend oneself as the Internet becomes more and more like the Wild Wild Web? Michelle's problems started when an Internet user named Chao_turtle came across her blog and started a thread on a popular Internet forum last October. Literally translated, 'Chao turtle' means smelly turtle. In response to the post, other users started subsequent threads about Michelle in the following months. Michelle, a student, said there were four threads, each with hundreds of postings, and there have been about 2,000 postings. She was upset when many forum members commented on her pictures, and they took postings from her personal blog and put them on theforum. Some comments were polite, but many others were nasty and insulting. Soon, the flamers even moved the forums to her blog. The flaming went on for almost a week. That was when she threatened to make a police report. The forum users taunted her - and she went ahead.. On 28 Mar, Michelle filed the report at the Serangoon Neighbourhood Police Post against one Chao_turtle. Michelle said she uploaded her personal photos on her blog knowing that it would be open to the public. 'I'm fine with people viewing and keeping my photos, but not putting them all over a forum and insulting me over it,' she said. That night after going to the police post, she uploaded a digital copy of the report on the blog for all to see. The next morning, someone posted the picture of the report on the forum. The thread received a staggering 1,400 posts and 27,000 views in one day before it was closed by the forum administrators. Michelle said: 'These people have gone too far with their abuse of my photos and defacing of my blog.' She claimed they 'defaced' her blog by posting nasty comments on her tagboard, which is an electronic message board designed by her. In defending herself in the forum over these photos, Michelle said they should not be criticising her because there was nothing wrong with what she did. She was free to post her pictures, she had a family lawyer who would help her and her father supported what she was doing. Some forum members found her tone condescending. Others did not like the way she flaunted her lifestyle on her blog, about how her brother drove a Honda Integra Type R, a sportscar, and how she couldn't wait to get her licence so she could drive one. She also wrote about how her mother bought her a Louis Vuitton bag, from the Damier Azur Speedy collection. Other more daring users went on to flame her on her blog's tagboard. One anonymous post on her blog read: 'You are an open target... but you don't know who am I... hahaha... scared right...' With the overwhelming attention that she was receiving, Michelle started feeling paranoid. 'Will I get into trouble outside because lots of people now know how I look?' she asked The New Paper when we spoke to her last week. 'I'm from a middle-income family. I never said that I was rich,' she added. For Michelle, all she wants now is to be out of the spotlight. She feels more at ease after making the police report. After the report was posted on the forum, the flaming died down for a while. 'I'm a bit relieved now. I don't have to worry... If the flaming stops, I won't pursue this case,' she said. Is she over-reacting? Some netizens think so. Ms Helen Leong, 28, a regular forum user who read the posts, said: 'If she can't take the flamings on the forum, then why did she post her pictures online? 'It's common sense: if you post anything online, you have to be prepared for flamings. 'The correct thing to do if your pictures are leeched and posted on other forums is to inform the forum administrators to remove the pictures.' Some others acknowledged that users like Chao_turtle may have overstepped the line by using words like 'slut'. A 24-year-old engineering undergraduate who took part in the forum wrote: 'Chao_turtle is entitled to his opinion, although I do not agree with the way he started the issue.' Forum user Han Ming Guang, 22, an undergraduate from the National University of Singapore, said that making a police report was 'ludicrous'. 'Flaming happens everywhere,' he said. 'If she can't handle it, ignore it. If she can't ignore it, then she should just make her blog private.' Michelle has now locked her blog pictures with a password to restrict access. When contacted, a police spokesman said: 'We found no criminal elements disclosed and have advised Michelle to liaise with the service providers to remove the objectionable content.' Copyright

I've been using DBS vickers online for the past 2 years and have thus far lost count of the number of times I am unable to log into the website/experiencing super slow traffic during office hours or at night even . 11. ST 13/4 MOTORISTS who want to find out if their vehicles are being recalled for safety flaws will be able to check online starting Monday. All they have to do is to access the Land Transport Authority's (LTA) www.onemotoring.com.sg, go to the new Vehicle Recall System (VRS) link, key in their vehicle registration number and identification number. Recalls over the last six months will also be displayed. 'I think this is a positive move,' said retiree Ismail Ibrahim, 62. 'It will be quick and hopefully transparent.' Mr Ismail's Toyota Wish was affected by a recall last year, but it took him four weeks to hear from his parallel importer. The LTA said the new system, which took about $300,000 and one year to develop, will improve road safety because owners will be notified sooner and vehicles repaired faster. Since declaration of safety recalls became mandatory in 2003, the number has soared. Between 2003 and last year, there were about 58 recalls affecting 52,000 vehicles a year, up from just 17 affecting 4,500 vehicles in 2002. Motor Traders Association president Chia Yong Sian welcomed the initiative, calling it a 'value-add service'. Mr Neo Nam Heng, president of the parallel importers' Automotive Importers and Exporters Association, said it will offer 'easier and speedier access to information for everyone'. For motor traders, the service is a more convenient avenue of reporting recalls than the current manual method. It is also expected to lead to substantial cost savings, because agents need only import rectification parts for vehicles that are still on the road here. In past recalls, up to 20 per cent of parts were left unused because the affected vehicles had already been scrapped or exported. By keying in the chassis or engine numbers of affected vehicles, traders can get a list of cars still on the road, their owners and addresses. Mr Vincent Ng, product manager of authorised Honda agent Kah Motor, said it will now know immediately if the ownership of a car has changed or if an owner has moved. 'It's definitely a benefit,' he said. Kah Motor and Nissan distributor Tan Chong are the first to hook up to the system. Recalls affecting more than 7,000 Honda Odysseys, more than 500 Honda Jazzes and some 3,000 old Nissan Marches are expected to be reported on the new system. The system, which was co-funded by The Enterprise Challenge, a scheme that drives innovations in the public service, will be fine-tuned in its first year. Motor traders are expected to be charged 'a nominal fee' after that, though motorists can continue to use it for free.

However besides this 2 sites I lost one more site that i think is red and black theme then after selecting the rim...the recommended tyre size will appear on the left hand side. Anyone knows which site? is not tirerack.com. http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/wtpack.jsp http://www.1010tires.com/wheels.asp

  16. just to share my experience shopping for car care products online on a US website, autogeek. products i bought: 1 x optimum car kit (includes car wash, car wax, protectant plus, 1 MF towel, 1 applicator pad) -- US$29.99 3 x meguiars' plush wash mitt -- US$17.97 product total: US$47.96 + $7.99 UPS shipping = $55.95 (assuming 1.62 => S$90.70) used vpost to ship, shipping charge came up to unexpectedly high of S$47. total damage = S$137.70 so now, suppose i buy the products locally, optimum from a local website and the wash mitts from carrefour. optimum car wash -- $23.50 car wax -- $35.50 protectant plus -- $28.50 wash mitt @ carrefour -- $18 x 3 total local price = S$141.50 and this does not include the MF towel and applicator pad in the kit... conclusion? at the end of the day, it's only a marginal bargain for diying yourself, and if local distributors can give better discounts, should be cheaper to buy from them.
  17. My experience with C&C is....better to buy your VW online. ebay may provide better help info than C&C. Visited C&C today in hopes to view a new Golf GTI. It was a neat showroom, with so many C&C personnels, but no one seemed to care...i thought i was in Borneo Motor....it couldn't be, i saw a Black Golf GTI. At least, she was smiling at me. When i fiddled with the black beauty, a salesperson appeared, finally. First thing she said, "all the GTIs are sold, if you want it, you have to wait until Oct". When i asked for specs or a catalogue for consideration (afterall, it is a cool $123k we are talking about). To my surprise, it was to no avail. She suggested me look up in VW website, and claimed they bring in only top specs GTIs.....she stood beside the car rather impatiently, and gave me an impression of "well, is there anything else ?". i walked off. It is amazing to find not a single piece of catalogue in a nice and big showroom, flying flags of Golf GTI outside the building. Maybe ebay gives better service.
