  10. Hi all, my friend just committed to a 2nd hand Opel Meriva, said that he liked the MTA transmission. However read quite a few reviews on the down side of such transmission. Maybe for slow city driving ok, but what abt gg up to KL on NSHW? Articles complaints were usually on the computer not being able to gauge which gear to go to on Auto mode, where you have to release accelerator pedal momentarily and step again. havent tried such a car before but looking forward to try his car when delivered. Any owners or previous owners on the meriva or any opel models can share on fuel consumptions, service costs, repair costs, usual problems etc? Cheers!!

  14. Chevrolet has confirmed it will stop selling cars across Europe at the end of 2015. The announcement came days after GM CEO Dan Akerson expressed his wish to put more distance between Germany-based Opel and the Bowtie brand. When the brand was launched in Europe in 2005, it focused on selling low-cost cars that were a little more than just rebadged, South Korean-built Daewoos. The business model was not popular and the company was hit hard by the economic crisis in Europe few years ago. Chevrolet tried to move upmarket and woo European buyers by focusing on its American heritage, but customers were not convinced by the company's new image and sales have been lingering at under 200,000 units with no signs of improvement. The final nail in Chevrolet's coffin came from Opel, GM's main European division. Most of the two companies' products are aimed at the same target audience and GM believes that shuttering Chevrolet will help Opel to return to profitability in its home market after years of crippling losses. Iconic Chevrolet models like the Corvette and the Camaro will continue to be imported with a Bowtie emblem but they will likely be distributed through Opel dealerships. Similarly, Opel dealerships will honor Chevrolet warranties and provide owners with parts and service. It is unsure how many jobs will be lost once Chevy's European arm shuts down.

  16. With 197bhp, 300Nm of torque and a top speed of 234km/h, a high performance version of the new 1.6-litre SIDI turbo engine will globally premiere in a Vauxhall Cascada at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show. The engine is one of the newly-designed Vauxhall four-cylinder SIDI (Spark Ignition Direct Injection) units and will join the existing 167bhp 1.6-litre SIDI turbo, available from its launch. The new power unit delivers 11 percent more power, including 300Nm maximum torque with overboost - 70Nm more than the comparable 1.6-litre turbo predecessor. At the heart of the SIDI turbo is a new engine block that can withstand a maximum combustion pressure of up to 130 bar in the cylinder. The block is made of grey cast iron with an aluminium baseplate. A different type of piston was also developed on top of a reduced compression ratio. Vauxhall engineers also achieved a high power output with exceptional refinement by optimising the car

  20. Opel has removed the wraps off the 2013 Insignia facelift. The revised German mid-sized sedan will be making its world premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Exterior updates include revised headlamps, front and rear bumpers, taillight combination and front grille. On the inside, the center console is now less cluttered with buttons, which Opel claims improved intuitive operation of common functions such as air conditioning and infotainment. The instrument cluster also has a new set of dials. A new flat-bottomed steering wheel completes the interior update. For the petrol power trains, the 2013 Insignia gets a choice of 1.6-litre SIDI engine with 170bhp or a 2.0-litre version with 250bhp. The 2.0 SIDI engine produces 30bhp more than the existing 2.0-litre turbocharged unit. Diesel options include a 2.0-litre CDTI with either 120bhp/320Nm or 140bhp/370Nm. A 2.0-litre BiTurbo CDTI with 195bhp and 400Nm of torque is also available. Depending on the engine choice, the Insignia is offered with a choice of six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic transmission.
