  1. [extract] Opel has revealed the 2011 facelifted Corsa. Styled by Niels Loeb, Vauxhall/Opel
  2. Not too long ago, I bid adieu to a faithful friend that has served me well as a mode of transport. As my friend drove me out of the dealer lot where it was hastily "abandoned", I couldn't help but feel a slight pang of sadness in my heart. As the deal was put together rather briskly and in a clinical and professional manner, I barely had time to register that I no longer owned it anymore. It might be something that pragmatic and utilitarian vehicle owners might not understand, but I genuinely believe that there can be a bond between a vehicle owner and his/her vehicle. Much like a family pet, a vehicle has often seen the owner through different milestones in his/her life. And unsurprisingly, there can be a whole host of memories both painful and jubilant associated with the vehicle or various parts of the vehicle. Perhaps that is why there are vehicle owners in their 50s who are still driving that very same car they sat in on their wedding day. It is like a different sort of photo album; triggering memories. Just thinking back now, I see how my ride was like a historical timeline of sorts, charting out major events in the past few years. I recall my excitement as a first time vehicle owner; barely able to sleep the night before I collected my ride. The silly things I bought to customize it. Learning about modifications and simply DIY. Queuing up to use the washing bay on the eve of special occasions. And then there are the personal events and memories that I think of by association when I think of the vehicle. Now, several months down, I am looking forward to collecting a brand new ride. But strangely, this time round, the excitement is tempered with a tinge of nostalgia. I guess saying goodbye never was easy. P/s: I decided not to post actual pictures for privacy reasons so all you get is a hint of what I used to drive.
  3. hi.. My dad has been driving his Mondeo for 6 yrs ... Now he is considering for his ride between these 2 cars ... I would like to know your views ....
  4. Hi Bros @ MCF This is my 1st post at MCF so just thought of sharing a very nice car which i've viewed late last month. Its the new Opel Astra 1.6Turbo with 180bhp. I've taken some pics so decided to share with the bros here! For more images and specs you can visit this link http://www.opelmicrosites.com/astra/index.html I manged to view the car while it was being sent to LTA for homoglation. SE quoted me $118,500 pre-launch price And $125,000 launch price (November), it was just too steep for my liking as it does not coroborate with current mkt trends for say VW Golf TSI & Scirocco. I would have bite had they sold it ard $100-$108 grand but well maybe the prices may drop during launch? Do give your feedback as to whether it is a good offer as currently i'ved put it on the back burner somehow as there are a host of new models coming along etc Ford Mondeo/Focus Ecoboost models. It does comes with a host of goodies like built in bicycle rack at the rear license plate, flase or adjustable boot floor, bluetooth HU with LCD display, Satellite Radio. Just to name a few different things that can't be found on other rides. But build quality wise IMHO still not on par with VW. But its better than a Bravo or Octavia or any other Jap makes in the same Category. FYI this is Mr Karsono Kwee's car, i really liked the number plate lol! Its a real sneak peek as this car was still parked at the warehouse, after juz landed from port.

  6. Finally, details and images of the upcoming Opel Astra GTC have broken cover. Technically labeled a concept, Opel has set its sight on the VW Scirocco and the upcoming Hyundai Veloster. The GTC will be a compact, 3-door hatch for five with a coupe-like roofline. It measures 4.46 meters long and incorporates modern Opel design cues. The GTC Paris gets LED running lights / tail lights and rides on 21-inch rims which probably won't be available on the production model. Opel design VP Mark Adams says, "We wanted to express the most emotional side of the Opel brand and we believe this vehicle creates an appropriate visual impact to reinforce our dynamic sporty character." Under the creased hood is a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with direct injection hooked up to a 6-speed manual transmission and a start/stop system. The production model will be powered by a variety of petrol and diesel engines with the grapevine talking about a GTI-version of Opel's little hatch called the GSi with around 200-horsepower and an even crazier OPC model, possibly with as much as 280HP to battle the Scirocco R. Official specs for the GTC will probably start to come out around the time of its Paris debut.

  8. Opel has pulled the curtains off the new 2011 Opel Astra Sports Tourer, ahead of a planned public debut at the Paris Motor Show in October. Along with the car, Opel is introducing a new 1.4-liter turbocharged petrol engine that produces either 118 horsepower or 138 horsepower. Eight different petrol and diesel engines will be available on the Sports Tourer. At the top of the diesel lineup is a 2.0-liter CDTI unit that delivers 158 hp and up to 380Nm of torque when the overboost function is enabled. Transmission options include a six speed manual and a six speed automatic gearbox. Cars with the manual transmission will get an indicator light that inform the driver of the most fuel efficient shift points. Start/Stop will also be used across the range to further aide fuel economy. Behind the C-pillar, the car has a roofline that is subtly tapered. This allows the car to maintain cargo space of 1,550 liters. With the rear seats down, the load length of the cargo area is a full 1,835mm, longer than the entire wheelbase of the Smart ForTwo. The Astra Sports Tourer is meant to share some of the same design features as the Opel Insignia.

    New Opel Astra OPC

According to a recent report, the Opel Astra OPC / Vauxhall Astra VXR will finally become a legitimate competitor to the Ford Focus RS. While details are limited, Autocar is reporting the high performance Astra will feature a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 300 hp. If they are correct, the new engine will boast 63 hp more than its predecessor. Unlike the Insignia OPC / VXR, the Astra will continue to be front-wheel driven. This means GM will likely equip the car with an electronic differential to help alleviate torque steer. Expected to go on sale in late 2011, the hot hatch will likely wear an aggressive body kit with revised bumpers, flared wheel arches, and a roof-mounted spoiler.

    New Buick Excelle GT

This is the new Buick Excelle GT sedan that is set to go on sale in China on 23 June 10. Marketing positioning places it as a high-end mid-size car with very high build, comfort and engine quality. Styled along the lines of the Buick LaCrosse sedan, the Excelle GT is based on the all-new Opel/ Vauxhall Astra platform. The exterior is characterised by Buick's waterfall front grille, distinctive headlights, porthole vents on the bonnet and eye-catching taillights. The interior shows very strong links with the new Astra and roominess comes courtesy of a 2,685mm wheelbase. It is the engine compartment where things get interesting. Engine options include the 1.8-litre Eco Smart with 138bhp and 175Nm of torque, and a more powerful 1.6-litre turbo. The latter makes 181 bhp and 235Nm of maximum torque. It puts many engines of larger capacity to shame and I am sure many would like to see this powerplant in some GM models in Singapore. The new Opel Astra and Chevrolet Cruze could be the likely candidates. Let

    Opel Insignia

When we talk about German cars, it has always been BMWs, Audi's or Mercedes, Opel has always been that forgotten brand, at least that is the case in Singapore. It is no wonder too with the dated looks of the current Opel's on sale here. Take a walk down Leng Kee and the Opel showroom resembles something like a museum beside the Audi's and Mini's. With COEs going through the roof, buying a car now requires a lot more consideration and comparisons and deliberation and calculations... You get the drift, which means typical Singaporeans will be going for the car that delivers the most bang for the bucks. Judging by that, I'm quite sure that Auto EuroKars's coffers will be growing significantly with the arrival of the new Opel Insignia. Although it has been launched in Europe for some time now, the Insignia will not look outdated on Singapore roads, not when it had been awarded the coveted Red Dot design award. With its coupe-like roof line and bold 18 inch wheels, the car oozes a sense of presence and masculinity not found in the other mid-sized sedans here. I especially like the "winged" daytime running lights, subtle yet powerful imagery. It will be a feature that will be seen on coming Opels' and will definitely catch your attention in the rear view mirror while not being overbearing like those on the Audi's (though some might disagree). Interior wise, it's straightforward and well put together. While Audi and BMW put their drive select settings rather low in the centre console, Opel positioned it right at the top just below the infotainment screen. As a more drivers kind of guy like most of us here, it's a welcome design that lets me efficiently select the kind of driving mood I want without having to reach down, making me feel more connected with the car. As a bonus, and this is what got me excited about this car in the first place, when u engage the SPORT mode, the dash changes illumination from your usual white to RED! Now, having the throttle response quickened and suspension stiffen is one thing, when the dash turns red, it makes me feel like going "alright! hold on tight now!" while flooring the accelerator. With the visual element in place, the 350nm of torque starting at just 2000rpm from the 2.0L turbo that we will be getting will give the proper shove that will keep your head firmly on the headrest. After the thrill ride is over, return the settings to normal and blend back into traffic. That WRX that was tail-gating you will not have a clue what had just happened. So, in the mid-sized sedan segment where you will find cars like the VW Passat, Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and Nissan Teana or even BMW's 318i, why not consider the Opel Insignia? To me, it is an absolute winner here. Hopefully, Auto EuroKars will bring in the Sports Tourer version which in my opinion, looks even better. The Insignia Sports Tourer
  14. All 3 cars are selling at around the 125K range, which will you go for ? I think Opel Insignia will be priced out. ( worst since they are not bringing in the sports tourer, which I think looks much better than the sedan) I saw the car, it's good but I dont think good enough as it's priced at 128K.. For practicality, I will go for the Superb 2 estate... For the wow factor, I will go for the passat cc 5 seater. The only thing against the passat cc 5 seater is the fact I would prefer a car more suitable for a family with 2 young child. I think it's still possible, but of course a large sedan or estate version should be better. Also, the passat has omv of around 29K, and the SE told me the cc will be marked up by ~ 5k compared with the 4 seater version. Too much profit margin for them!! and we already know in Europe the difference bet the 5 and 4 seater version is only 100 Euro !! But the passat cc really looks I think the superb 2 estate ( coming in this month ) will be the best value for money. Good spec, practical and looks not too bad but of course the opel insignia sports tourer will win hands down on the look department. So, which will you guys go for?
  15. Yeap! 2009 has been dusted and we're in the presence of 2010, a year that holds much promise and continued success for some and for others, the continuing fight to stay in the black. And if you're wondering, LTA did release the sales figures of the various brands in Singapore last month. Besides the disheartening jump in the number of units from brands like Lamborghini, Ferrari, Maserati, Aston Martin and Bentley, the lesser Continental brands and the Koreans have also made good with the injection of all new products that boast not only good fittings but attractive and daring styling respectively. Audi, on the back of record sales last year spearheaded by it's R8 supercar will be introducing no less than five different models throughout this year, the MINI-challenging A1, A7, A8, Q5 Hybrid and the R8 Spyder. Probably the most anticipated of the lot by most of you guys, the R8 isn't on my list of the cars to watch in 2010. Why? The proportions on the car itself are questionable, the power delivery is sedate and diluted by various electronic equipment that keep you straight while driving and also helps you fall asleep at the wheel faster. Rather the A8 will be an interesting addition. Not only does it look almost the same as the last car from the side, the front and rear shots of the car don't seem too complimentary of the cars hefty size. The A1 is the other one. Poised to go head-on with MINI, I'm looking forward to seeing how it actually measures up to the MINI, primarily in the handling and the chassis section. Determined to have its turn in the spotlight, Volkswagen will be bringing in their Golf and Scirocco R cars, making its way into town within the first half and second half of the year respectively. The R32 which the Golf R replaces was a stonker of a car and the R is supposed to be much more fun at the wheel with less heft under the bonnet. With the Scirocco, VW's current line-up of 1.4 and 2.0 variants are wonderfully sprite engines but the suspension seems to have taken the hit of compromise, in an effort to not tear buyers between the Scirocco and the Golf models. Then the Korean camp is represented by Kia, introducing the Sorento after highly successful runs with the Forte and the Koup in the market last year. It's parent company Hyundai is also scheduled to release their all-new Sonata in March. Both cars are on my "to watch" list...they should do very well in this market. Next up the Opel Insignia. Not only does this baby look every bit as good as its press pictures suggest, but the two-litre turbocharged ecotec engine it's mated to will produce 220 bhp and 350 Nm of torque through a six-speeder to all four tyres! Not too shabby...another car that we'll see more of on our roads. Now that we're done with the everyday movers, let me get on with those of the supercar nature. Two highlights for me this year will be the arrival of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG and the three Reventon Roadsters. Both have reached legendary status's in the short time they've been revealed at the various motor shows and have become very sought after objects. The SLS AMG, despite not looking anything like the 300SL Gullwing it was meant to pay tribute to, looks nothing like the German company has made in recent times and with a 6.2-litre V8 under that long bonnet, is bound to take straight off into the hearts of the rich in Singapore.
  16. Take a look at the all new Astra-J Picture linked from http://www.autospies.com/images/uploads/la...0616-110307.jpg Quote : ( http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoexpr...atches_out.html New Astra hatches out Mission impossible is about to begin for Vauxhall! The firm's designers are already well on the way to creating the next-generation Astra, which will have one key objective - to beat Ford's Focus. By Chris Thorp 30th May 2006 In this week's mag Auto Express can exclusively reveal pictures, which show the all-new compact family hatch that will challenge its arch rival with a fresh face and the latest technology. The radical approach which saw the current Astra given a more distinctive shape hasn't been forgotten. However, the man behind the styling has been replaced. Design expert Martin Smith oversaw the car's development before switching to Ford in July 2004, and has been superseded by Bryan Nesbitt. Having already signed off the Antara SUV, the stylist is keen to make a mark in other sectors. Vauxhall's new hatch shares its front-end looks with the 4x4, while retaining the sleek appearance of the current Astra. Under the skin, the newcomer is based on General Motors' latest platform, codenamed Delta. Auto Express's spies have already caught a top-secret test mule out developing underpinnings for several fresh models. Despite the Vectra body, the basic architecture will be used on the all-new Astra. This model will be front-wheel drive, and feature Vauxhall's latest chassis technology. While the existing hatch is dynamically competent, its successor will be a serious driver's car. Most of the development work will be carried out by Opel in Germany, but Vauxhall will then add some refinements to make UK-spec cars ready for Britain's roads. Engines will be carried over from the current Astra, with a few additions. Mid-spec models will inherit the 1.7-litre turbo petrol unit from the all-new Corsa VXR, while work is underway on a new compact diesel. Maximising efficiency is crucial, and General Motors is also rumoured to be developing a motor similar to Volkswagen's TSI unit, which uses both a turbo and supercharger. What's more, the Astra could be one of the first mainstream cars in its class to feature hybrid power. General Motors has been working with Mercedes and BMW to develop a new hi-tech, two-mode, CVT gearbox intended specifically for models running both petrol and electric motors. As with the current car, the all-new Astra will get a firebreathing VXR-badged flagship. Its unique selling point is its high power output, so it is likely to better the forthcoming 250bhp Mazda 3 MPS, and offer even faster acceleration. While the VXR will be available with only three doors, five-door, coup

  19. Bellow are extracts from a magazine....Let's hope she will reach our shores. The heart of the Insignia OPC is its 2.8 V6 Turbo engine. Derived from the powerful gasoline engine already available on the top-of-the-line Insignia, this version reaches an output of 239 kW/325 hp. The increase in power was obtained by a special engine development and by reworking the exhaust, significantly reducing the counter pressure. And because sound is so important in the appreciation of an engine, the acoustic specialists worked on the exhaust of the V6 by adopting specific center and rear mufflers. The Insignia OPC is available with a six-speed manual gearbox. The strong torque of 400 Nm ensures abundant pulling power even at lower engine speeds. With this engine performance, the Insignia OPC reaches a top speed of 250 km/h (restricted) and sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in six seconds. The already very well performing Insignia chassis was further fine tuned for the OPC variant which ride height has been reduced by 10 mm compared to the Insignia (AWD Sport version). The newly developed mechatronic chassis also receives a new front axle. The front suspension architecture of the Insignia OPC retains a so called McPherson strut, however the engineers at the Opel Performance Center came up with an evolution called HiPerStrut (for high performance strut). Benefits are an improved steering feel, reduced steering disturbances due to the high torque and an enhanced feeling in the handling for the driver.
