  2. Toyota to recall 173,000 vehicles in Japan, Singapore, Malaysia TOKYO Faulty brake and fuel systems is forcing Toyota to recall about 173-thousand vehicles in Japan, Singapore and Malaysia. The Japanese automaker says it's aware of one accident in Japan that had been caused by a defect in the brake's master cylinders. A car was unable to stop and crashed into another vehicle in front of it. There were no injuries. Another defect is in a part called the O-ring in the fuel system. The recalls affect vehicles made between September 2003 and February of this year. http://www.woodtv.com/global/story.asp?s=3...tType=Printable
  3. I'm checking the calendar and it seems like the best time to go in a group is the 1st week of Nov from Tue 1 Nov to Sat 5 Nov. 1 Nov is Deepavali and 3 Nov is Hari Raya Puasa. Jams will be plenty but this looks like a good chance to go up as a group. Suggest a 3d2n stay at some place. I'm thinking of a return on Fri or Sat. Can stretch longer if you want 2 places to go. I have a few candidate places to go. Any takers. Early planning goes a long way.
  4. Holden and Fords, Australian pride failed on them at the most crucial moment. Nonetheless a dramatic chase. TWO police cars had to abandon a 200km car chase because one had a defective siren and the other's radiator hose blew, while a police helicopter crew lacked the necessary maps for the chase. Two teenagers are being questioned after the high-speed car chase from Sydney's west to Mudgee. It began when police tried to stop a Subaru WRX at St Marys about 8.30pm (AEST) yesterday, police said today. They chased the car to the Bells Line of Road. The Subaru avoided road spikes put down by police at the weighbridge at Bell in the Blue Mountains, and Lithgow Police took over the pursuit. The chase continued through Lithgow to Mudgee, down the Castlereagh Highway, where police stopped the chase for safety reasons after the Subaru turned onto a dirt track. Lithgow Police today arrested two male teenagers at about 5.10am after a Lithgow service station worker became suspicious of a vehicle and its occupants. The teens were being interviewed by police. Chifley Local Area Command Superintendent Martin Wookey said the two police cars had to pull out of the chase because one had a defective siren and the other's radiator hose blew. "That's what happens," he said. "We (NSW Police) have a fleet of I think 14,000 and the cars are new and well maintained, but sometimes there are faults." The Polair police helicopter tracking the offenders also had to pull out of the chase because of the terrain and rising fog, he said. The crew did not have maps of the area. "It (Polair) took off from its base on another job then they were advised about the pursuit," Supt Wookey said. "They can't carry every map because the helicopter wouldn't be able to take off so they only take the ones they need. "In this instance they were coming from another job and didn't have the right maps with them." Supt Wookey said Polair had tracked the Subaru with spotlights and thermal tracking. "With a pursuit over two hours over 200km and no injuries or damage to property, I am very proud of them (officers)," he said.

  6. U know U can't avoid it, it's too late, too dangerous to swerve out.... Small animals like stray mongrels, cats, lizards and mynahs tends to be knocked down very frequently almost to the tune of 100+ animals every 2 weeks. (NZ is about 5 Kangaroos a day on average) Have you knocked anything down before apart from that tree? (juz joking) I have accidentally murdered a mongrel once, felt very bad for weeks.... Felt even more worst when I realised I did not track back and clean up the mess... Come! Share your experience....
  7. Interesting. Reveals some performance fibs being told by manufacturers......
  8. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/afp.../107767/1/.html SEOUL: South Korea's largest carmaker Hyundai Motor is recalling more than 200,000 Santa Fe sport utility vehicles due to faulty wiring, the transportation ministry said. The voluntary recall over the next one and a half years will affect 204,490 Santa Fe units made between November 1 in 2000 and January 18 in 2004, the ministry said. The wiring fault affects the vehicle's supplementary diesel heater and could lead to damage to an electric terminal or a downgrade of the heating system, the ministry said. Hyundai and its sister company Kia Motors control 70 percent of South Korea's car market. - AFP
  9. editorque My dad is a driving legend. Not in that Aryton Senna kind of way, but as far as I can remember, he was and still is the smoothest driver I know. My fondest recollection stem from the numerous scuffles I used to have with my brother - in the back seat his trusty Ford Escort. He would drive, talk to my Mum and simultaneously smack us from the front, without missing a beat. That man gave new meaning to the term 'driving discipline'. He has also never, I repeat never, lost his way before. no matter the location, terrain and sans map, my dad would find his destination. He was also one of those drivers that could put anyone to sleep when he drove. From grandma, to cousins and of course my brother and me, we all had at one time or another, fallen into a drooling slumber from his silky smooth handling. In fact my Dad, to me is the epitome of the 'steady driver'. His adamant refusal to use the horn has also shaped my own dislike, for horn-happy road bullies. So much so, that my wife sometimes smacks the horn on my behalf - from the passenger's seat. Six years of driving experience later, I'm still nowhere near my Dad's skill when he was my age. Then again, when he was 30, he already had two kids. Then it hit me, my Dad isn't a good driver - he's a family driver. he drives the way he does because his family's life depend on it. Man... that makes him even more 'steady'... So drive safe Dads. Ignore the punk who overtakes you. Just make sure everyone gets home safe and warm. And if you can, senenade the kids to sleep with your driving. I assure you, they'll remember that nap for the rest of their lives. 11. Fraud of over S$400m alleged at Daewoo Singapore By Chan Hwa Loon, Channel NewsAsia SINGAPORE : Commodity trading firm Daewoo Singapore is alleged to be embroiled in fraud involving more than S$400 million, and the High Court has ordered the company to be compulsorily wound up. The company's creditor, Korea Asset Management Corp (Kamco), had asked for such a ruling because it was not satisfied with the firm being "voluntarily" wound up. A probe commissioned by Kamco has alleged that a related company's debt of over S$400 million at Daewoo Singapore appeared to have been incurred in highly questionable and suspicious circumstances. These circumstances point to not merely mismanagement, but fraudulent and wrongful acts on the part of the directors and officers of the company or its shareholders. A compulsory liquidation will leave it to the Court to appoint an independent liquidator, instead of letting Daewoo Singapore appoint its own liquidator under voluntary liquidation. Law firm Rajah & Tann, which is representing Kamco, says this is the first time in recent legal history that a Court has put a company into compulsory liquidation. This is despite the company having already put itself into a voluntary winding-up. - CNA
  12. Saw this at F1.com! As only one driver can ever sit on pole position for a race, and the entire grid wants to finish on the top step of the podium, overtaking is of vital importance to the business of racing. Simplified to its most basic form overtaking is nothing more than gaining track position to get past an opponent. This can be done at the very start of the grand prix, during the dash towards the first corner
  13. Klasse RULES..... Comparison between Zaino, Meguiar, KLasse etc check out http://www.deckowski.com/wax%20off/results.htm Another link: http://forums.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.p...27&pagenumber=1 Extract: First of all, let me start by saying that both Klasse and Zaino are exceptional products, and that I've used both with great success and results. A product for every need. The first big difference between the Klasse and Zaino lines is that if you want to wash and wax your car with the Zaino products, you'll need a minimum of 3 different products - the car wash, a reactant, and the protectant (i.e. wax). With Klasse, you can use the one product (All-In-One) to meet all three needs, should you wish. A LOT of products for ONE need. To take that one step further, Zaino requires a bonding process different from any other product I've encountered. First of all, their wax won't stick to the paint without either a "primer" or another chemical added to the wax to make the bond. So, that means that you need to buy a bottle of a product called Z1, which is that primer step, or a kit of ZFX, which is a chemical which you add to the protectant (i.e. wax) in order to make it bond. So you have to take the bottle, squirt in the Z2, then add some drops of ZFX, and shake vigorously. Anything that you mix up but don't use is waste because of the chemical reaction. Any similarities? Yes, actually. Both being synthetics, they have a lot in common. First, you need only apply about an ounce of product in order to coat the entire car. Also, each product (Z2, Z5, A-I-O or Sealant Glaze) can be layered upon the previous layer to increase the level of protection. Cost conscious? If you are looking for the best value, consider this. The Klasse All-In-One is approximately 17 fluid ounces. If you use one ounce per layer, that's a cost of $1.14 per use. If you use the Z2 and ZFX combination, the cost is $4.13 per use (depending on how much ZFX you use) - almost 400% more per application! One thing that was really fun about using Zaino was that I got to spend more time waxing my car, which I thoroughly enjoy. But now that I use Klasse, I have more money for gas, and more time to drive!
  14. considering a Subaru Impreza 1.6 TS manual now... less than 2 yrs old, low mileage... was calculating the paper value (PARF + COE rebate??) of the car, which comes up to around $40k at this point... so going by that, if i were to pay around $58-60k for the car, is that considered too much of a premium to pay on top of the paper value? or am i missing some elements here that contribute to the car's market value? sorry, newbie at this.. appreciate any help from the lao jiaos here
  15. Rinspeed Splash Rinspeed has issued the following press release: Her Majesty's favorite secret service agent wished hard to have this space-age "toy" under his Christmas tree, but the ingenious old man in the lab was late commissioning Swiss automobile dream factory Rinspeed Inc. to make this wish come true. So he has to wait until after the Geneva Motor Show 2004 to venture off to his new mission. But then well equipped with the first automobile in the world which can actually drive, swim and fly across the water. For the Geneva Show 2004 Rinspeed Inc. has conceived not only a very attractive sports car, but has gone a big step beyond. The Swiss design and engineering company has built the first and only sports car in the world which not only drives in a very quick manner, but can actually swim and fly across water. A sophisticated and foldable high-tech wing system powered by on-board hydraulics and electronics allows the "Splash" to take off in the third dimension. An ultimate dream comes true. As a tradition at Rinspeed, the environmental visions are important as well. The "Splash" is powered by a light weight 750 ccm engine producing a whopping 140 hp and running on natural gas (CNG). The turbocharged two cylinder power-pack propels this extraordinary NGV (Natural Gas Vehicle) to a top speed of approximately 200 km/h on the road and 50 km/h on the water, respectively 80 km/h over water.
  16. still in a state of mild shock, the images of the bus running over a school girl this morning flashes across me. Was at the traffice light junction this morning on my way to the MRT, she was standing over the other end, both of us waiting for the green man to appear. The light turn green in our favour, we walk and passed each other, when i reached the other end heard a scream look right and saw the bus rear wheel ran over her. my heart sank. the bus stopped, i ran over she was still conscious but in great pain. a lady came from no where wanted to move her but i told her not too. pick up my phone dial 999, "officer accident at junction of amk ave 6 and amk ave 5, girl ran over by bus, plse despatch ambulance"as we waited, more people started to gather, a teacher from the school came, other help to direct traffic, we focus our attention to the school girl no bleeding but with a 2ton vehicle that just ran over you my mind was blank...5 minutes passed were the hell is the police and ambulance. as we look for the girl's ID i soon realised that she is in the same level as my daughter,Pri 5,could be her friend... finally ambulance came stabalise her carried her into the vehicle drove off with the school principal accompanying the girl..police asked me for details and said that they will contact me if necessary... still stun i decided to ride home instead of proceeding to the mrt, had a cup of hot milo to calm my anger and frustration. it could be anyone, my daughter or even myself ..... just can't get over the incident let's all pray for the girl to recover... BTW, the bus driver was one of those from malaysia that drives the "bus sekolah " to fetch factory workers. i am writing this from home still drinking my hot milo. i will never forget this incident for along time to come especially when you have to cross the same stretch every morning..
  17. Michael Schumacher won yesterday's San Marino Grand Prix convincingly, only slowing down on the last lap after building a massive lead near the end. To his credit, he was driving at his best, hard-charging and unrelenting, and kept his composure despite just leaving his mother's bedside where she passed away Sunday morning. Teamate Rubens Barrichello finished third in what must be Ferrari's sigh of relief after a near-disastrous start to the 2003 season. Of course, he might still be frystrated that he couldn't unstick McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen from 2nd, despite pushing him at the end. The McLaren team did well to use a 2 stop strategy (as opposed to Ferrari and Williams' 3 stop) to make up for Imola's lack of overtaking oppotunities (only three proper moves during the entire race), as well as their cars' shortfall in all-out speed. Which leaves the new Flying Finn still 14 points ahead of Schumi in overall standings. With the new points system being what it is, MS could finish 1st in the next 7 races (with Kimi 2nd), and still only draw level with the young Merc driver. Here's a season that rewards consistency, and Kimi's the guy who's got it at the moment, standing on the podium in all four races so far. He's my man!
  18. My car is producing clunking sound when going over bumps.. Its on the rear right wheel.. I don't know what might be the problem yet.. It doesn't make noise when I try to bounce the car with my hand.. I suspect its the exhausts hooks might be loose, or something to do with struts or bushings.... I guess have to bring it to the mechanic to find out.
