  1. Here’s the update: The workshop did a repaint of the 2 panels. Although the colour matching is closer now (maybe around 80%), there is too much orange peel effect on the fender. To conclude, the workmanship is terrible. Hence, those who are looking for a quality paint job should give it a wide miss. Result - Blacklisted Those who are thinking of flaming me, you can save your breath because I am not gonna give a damn F and won’t reply at all. Especially to idiotic MIL jokes!

    Car coatings

We are a group of students who are currently carrying out a research project on how we can improve car coatings. We would like find out from car owners, what they feel can be improved and what the general market is like. That being said we really will appreciated if you could help us fill in this short 5 minute survey as it will really help us out. Thank You. https://forms.gle/9Pa4XN1FkwJzrSW38
  3. any DaiGor DaiLow know which Tyre shop provides rim painting service? wash rim and paint before installation of new tyres thank you very much
  4. Hi, Anyone tried this product before ? https://colorndrive.com/
  5. Firstly, I don't work for any of these folks, but I think I had a good time with them, so I'm giving them a shoutout. As some of you know, I've had a baby, yeah! However in my haste to run about preparing, I managed to scratch my bumper against a post whilst shopping for my wife and baby - boo! I also had a deep scratch that some terrible person keyed onto my bonnet within a week of my getting the car.. that has been an eyesore because it occured so soon after I got my car. I have tried polishing it off, but it was too deep for that. Thankfully, my bonnet was made from aluminium, so my agent said it's ok and it did not breach the base coat. I did ask around about doing that but the downtime was something I didn't want to incur so I have lived with the scratch for a while. However when I scratched my bumper and a bit of the side of the car, I decided I will get it fixed together. As it would be, my baby come and everything else had to put on the back burner. I also changed my battery, but the man came over to do it, and it was fast and smooth, I recommend Clement and the battery company: 8166 4455 I then asked him for a shop that could fix my scratches. He gave me a contact: Sprayboxx https://www.facebook.com/sprayboxxsg/ 9888 9707, Douglas is the boss. He is an interesting guy, having opened this shop during the Covid times. He was previously a corporate person, and now he has his own shop, doing paint, dents and not only for cars, but he does bicycles and even boats! So when you get a dent / scratch, some things you want to take note of: - take pictures, especially if you want to file any claims later do it from different angles and make sure the pictures are clear, well lit and do close ups as well as wide angle shots show how deep it is, where it is, and give a reference, like a ruler or put your hand in the shot too - the depth is key, if it breaches the base layer then you need to get it fixed soon as there is a real risk of rust. Every car has the same four layers, some do more repetitions but essentially they are: https://www.researchgate.net/figure/Schematic-of-a-typical-four-layer-automotive-coating-system_fig1_281575817 https://autodometer.com/blog/5 layers of car paint Many vandals don't breach the base layer, so you can wait if someone keys your car. However if it's a dent and the base layer is involved, you may want to get it done asap. - think of the down time you need and try not to rush it. You have the kind of paint job where 2nd hand car dealers will simply spray on a thin coat to make the car look nice. There's no sanding or preparation of the car. It's fast and cheap but doesn't last and is not as good as the original paint. If you bought a decent car, the original paintwork is always best. Douglas recommended retaining it if the scratches are not that deep and can be polished off. - paint / polish or more So if your car is well maintained, free of stains from bird poop or other chemicals that ruin the original paintwork, you may wish to retain the original paintwork, opting for a polish or a ceramic coat instead. However a polish will not work it is too deep as mentioned. Douglas was willing to try but as predicted, it was too deep. - doing a good paint job requires removal of the parts, eg doors, bonnet etc but that takes time So in my car, I opted for a combination: repair the scratch on the side, paint that and the bonnet, then polish and finish off with a ceramic coat. I told him about my predicament, in fact, the day I wanted to send my car in, my baby came! So I had to put off the job for a couple of weeks until I could find time and he could slot me in too as many wanted a refresh for CNY. I sent my car in on a Friday after work, and he immediately started work on the scratch. Thankfully the sensors on the bumper were ok so that just needed some paint. He will paint the rear scratch and the dent, then bake the car, and finally polish and apply the ceramic coat. We used this Meguair's product: Knowing I need the car urgently for all the medical appointments, he got his workers to work really late for the coat so I could get my car back by Monday. In fact he finished the job early and now I have a shiny car all ready for CNY 🙂 I had a couple of ceramic coats which came free with the purchase and I polish my car myself, so the car was otherwise pretty clean and that helps. If you have a lot of bird stains, then check your paintwork to see if it will be sufficient to polish. Some advice after the coating: - just a light wash, with water or a light shampoo if it's really dirty. - avoid rain or water for day if possible
  6. Hi All, not sure if this is the right term but I got this glue/caramel/gum like thing dripped from the flowers or fruits from trees on my car's body and windscreen. when i spot it, sometimes it was not fully hardened, and rubbing to remove it may end up smearing it over a bigger area. onced dried/ hardened, it is like semi-transparent on the windscreen and not effect when I scrub it. what home-made remedy or off the shelf products I can use remove these stubborn glue-like thing?
  7. Any recommendation for a good value home painting service ? Do I buy the paint colour of my choice myself, or I tell the painter and he will go buy ? Will the painters move and cover the furniture ? Appreciate any sharing, thanks and have a nice weekend.
  8. So my car is getting on in age and I felt that it's time to get a refresh, and spruce it up in time for Christmas, and welcome the new year.. There are some scratches and battle wounds, but the I've been washing, waxing it and I did the whole PPS / Nano thing when I bought the car. So my first port of call was to polish it at a professional shop, but if there are paint shops which can do a new coat for not much more, then I'll consider that instead or any other options too? Thanks

  13. any recommendations where to spray paint the car badge to matte black or any other colors?
  14. hey guys, I just bought a new car 5 months ago, and recently there has been some construction going on and apparently some paint primer got on the car body. I've read a few solutions about removing paint, but I was wondering if those apply to removing primer stuck on car too. So far i've been thinking about trying turpentine. Is there anything else I should consider?
  15. Paint Protection (PPS) coating such as ceramic coating/glass coating comes with 3-5 years warranty protection. Is maintenance needed annually or after 3 year? Or if it a apply and forget coating? Anyone send his car back to recoat annually and etc? I use to do that for car wash. What are your views, thoughts and advise? Necessary or waste of money?
  16. Hello, Thank you for your interest in this post. Any expert in shipyard industry with lots is exposure of their car in spraying painting and sand blasting environment can advice if these glass coating and protective film is of any use. If do glasscoating can still Claybar or what more advance thing to remove the paint stick on to the car paint. The good old car cover has it limitation.
  17. i have some outdoor bamboo blinds painted in black and white which started peeling quite badly. Repainting them would temporarily solve the problem since it would be recurring in another year after exposure to the elements. Hence, seeking from the DIY gurus, if locally we could get something like below? or if they works in the first place (no paint crack/ peel with long exposure to sun). Or some other recommendations? many thanks in advance. https://www.amazon.com/Rubberseal-Liquid-Waterproofing-Protective-Coating/dp/B00F0U0IRA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1488778172&sr=8-2&keywords=rubber+paint https://www.amazon.com/Rust-Oleum-Corporation-60004-Binding-1-Quart/dp/B000LNSPTE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1488778377&sr=8-1&keywords=peel+stop

  22. I have experience lost of hydrophobic effect on a 6 months coating due to the amount of dirt and dust trapped on the surface and only used of iron removal then I am able to recover it..You will be surprise parking under a tree during heavy rain will leave a thick layer of bad elements on the surface. So what is the best cleaning solution to use weekly or bi-weekly as a maintenance for PPS to lift off the dirt? Shampoo? plain water? etc? Detailers would advise only wash with water after PPS, waxing or sealant or the most a PH neutral shampoo.. I did a small test to see how much water, shampoo and a solution O( I shall not name the product as this is not a sponsored thread) lift the dirt and clean surface.. The pictures are taken with handphone..Pardon me for the lousy pictures. The car roof surface are marked with solution 0, water and shampoo. Next I prepared a capful of shampoo, a capful of solution in the grit guard bucket and water in another bucket 2 clean wash mitt, one for solution O, one side for water, another side for shampoo on second wash mitt.. Some visible soiled watermarks on every surface before wash I soaked the wash mitt into every solution, squeeze some water out of it.. Surface washed using the wash mitt with the respective solution. Sorry to be continue later, going for my hobby...
