  1. Okay.. Right now I'm quite okay with perpendicular parking, but. finally. yesterday I had to do parallel parking and was kinda lost. how do i estimate how far is the left rear wheel away from the kerb? is it safe to reverse diagonally till you hit the kerb? is it possible to take alignment from cars in front/behind you that are parked already? or must this be done through experience (feeling)? onegaishimasu
  2. I read in this forum that we can tear an equivalent to $2 coupons to make up for the night parking. In this case, do we still need the night parking coupons? Seems like we can use the daytime $2 coupon instead.

  5. beware and better don't play play The 300 motorists who got away with $300,000 of free parking - Jan 31, 2007 AsiaOne Police are investigating how more than 300 motorists got away with free parking in seven carparks in the city area last year, for which the operator could have collected some $300,000 from them. CapitaCommercial Trust's (CCT), which operates the carparks, only discovered this when it noticed that several cars which had entered its carparks were not recorded as having left, said a report in The Straits Times today. CCT has reported this to police. CCT suspects that some of the following methods could have been exploited by the motorists to evade parking charges. - An electronic device could be sending signals to the carpark scanner and fool it into believing that the necessary payment has been deducted. - Motorists could be tampering with their CashCards or the radio-frequency system used by automated gantries to identify each vehicle via the in-vehicle unit (IU). - Motorists could have resorted to tail-gating. By sticking closely to the vehicle leaving the carpark, the built-in sensors which controls the barrier, would not be able to detect it. CCT has so far recovered $150,000 from the errant motorists who did not protest when confronted with details of their entry and exit times. Those who refused to pay up have been referred to the police. If you are thinking of getting free parking this way, you had better not return to the same carpark. Ever. Cars that are logged as having left without payment will be recognised by their in-vehicle unit (IU) numbers. Re-entering the scene of crime will result in "red flags" being raised, and the errant driver can have his car wheels clamped.
  6. Today at the National Stadium, I only tore one coupon, and displayed another 2 brand new unused coupons beside it. I figured that with so MANY cars in the carpark, Fatimah will not bother to look at each coupon in detail, and will likely take a quick glance and zoom in on only those cars without any coupons displayed Good idea right? Just wondering whether this is considered cheating and whether the fine will be heavier than parking without any coupons displayed. (this is not the case where the tabs are folded down without tearing them off entirely. for my case, i displayed brand new untorn unfolded coupon) well, i have the intention to cheat, but they can prove it right?

  17. From STOMP's Motoring Goondus.. Student Vincent Ng, 22, was passing by this block in Chua Chu Kang when he saw this Nissan Cefiro parked at the void deck. According to Vincent, there was a car park with vacant lots nearby but the driver chose to park at the void deck probably because it was raining and there was no covered linkway nearby. Vincent said cheekily,
  18. Hey peeps, I was in Ikea yesterday and had a hard time finding a lot. finally i saw one car moving out and i immediately proceed to park there as i was the only one in the vicinity. Then while reversing, i saw a person running to the lot and stopping me from entering. he pointed at the car behind approaching and said he spotted the lot first. Got such things meh? Asking his friend to physically stand there and "chop" the lot. I didnt wan to end up with a quarrel so i moved away. (Actually, more like i don want my car to kana scratched in case of revenge)....

  25. Hi, I have not been driving for 6 years now, but my new ride is coming on Thu. Just wish to hear some opinions on reverse parking. I got my license in the States and was taught to use the mirrors and also to turn my head when reversing my car into the parking lot. But when I return to SG, I notice many of my friends just use the mirrors w/o turning their heads AT ALL (which is surprising to me). Can someone advise if just relying on the mirrors is good enough? Thx. p.s. apologize for the novice qtn, but have not driven for a while, so you know...
