  1. Yesterday went to Dunlop St to have steamboat for dinner at One Pot. Wanted to park along the street but it's very hard to find a lot during dinner hours. And it's pretty hard to drive through the road as it looks quite narrow. Also many people there and nearly knocked down a guy. I also wonder how to park the parallel lots as I think the roads are too narrow to maneuver into the parallel lot. In the end, went to park at the open carpark at Weld St. A few years back, also in the same area, Little India, I parked on one of the streets and my friend opened the door and banged on the high kerb. Luckily no scratches and it's my old car. I noticed some parallel lots in these areas tends to be harder to park. Do you guys encounter the same problems?
  2. I completely do not understand one thing... the rationale of carpark charges in certain areas Why do some HDB carparks still implement charges during Sundays when its intended for visiting? My mum... right beside a popular sub urban mall... free parking on sunday My mum-in-law... new HDB block.. about 800m away from nearest MRT station... Parking is chargeable... why??
  3. SINGAPORE: The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) will be imposing market rate season parking charges on six more MINDEF and Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) camps and bases from Sunday (Apr 1). In a news release on Tuesday, MINDEF said the car parks in these six camps have been deemed to have market value due to their proximity to public amenities. It did not specify which camps will be affected. Channel NewsAsia understands that Khatib Camp and Mowbray Camp in Choa Chu Kang are among the six. MINDEF said the season parking policy will apply to all permanent staff as well as contractors who require a car park lot on a regular basis. This is in addition to the 10 camps, bases and related premises that currently impose season parking charges. “Operationally ready National Servicemen who are going for their in-camp training and other operationally ready National Service activities will continue not to be charged for parking their cars in all camp/bases,” said MINDEF. Channel NewsAsia understands that the season parking charges are S$120 per month for covered car parks and S$90 per month for open-air car parks. These are based on the market rates of Housing and Development Board car parks near the premises. The Ministry of Education announced on Monday that staff at national schools will be charged season parking fees from August. Parking policy at schools came under review after the Audit-General's Office (AGO) 2014/2015 Financial Year report highlighted that some educational institutions did not impose parking charges or had charges that were below the market rate. https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/mindef-parking-charges-6-military-camps-and-bases-april-10079268
  4. Teachers may soon have to pay to park in schools. The Straits Times understands that the Ministry of Education (MOE) is looking into whether public schools should continue to not charge staff for parking space in school compounds. Chinese daily Lianhe Zaobao had reported on Thursday that the ministry has been discussing the issue since the start of last year. Currently, all public service organisations, including the Education Ministry, charge parking fees at their offices. But parking remains free at the primary and secondary schools and the junior colleges. Only school staff are allowed to park in schools. Last year, the Auditor-General Office's (AGO) report highlighted how the Institute of Technical Education (ITE), the Singapore Polytechnic (SP) and the Temasek Polytechnic (TP) were not imposing parking charges, or charging below market rate, for the use of their car parks. The report said such practices "are tantamount to providing hidden subsidies for vehicle parking". The report pointed out that ITE did not charge users for its car park, and the estimated amount of parking fees forgone was $66,000 a month. According to the report, SP implemented paid parking only in May 2013, but parking continued to be free for motorcycles. Parking was also free for those who parked their vehicles at the staff apartment car park. Of those who were charged for parking, some users, such as the poly's staff, tenants, and contractors, paid below the market rate. At TP, which started charging for parking in June 2014, it capped its daily car park charges at $1.50 for staff, and $6.00 for other users, resulting in some users paying below market rate, the report went on. Both the polys and the ITE had to review their parking charges. http://www.straitstimes.com/singapor...ok#xtor=CS1-10

  6. I had always practiced switching on hazard lights (in advance, before stopping), plus turning my car to an angle with rear facing into the empty slot before reversing. I was told driving schools nowadays teach to signal with left or right turn signal and I see some cars do this. Wouldn't this sometimes cause confusion especially if the parking car is near to a turn junction in the carpark? In this thread, i would like to first determine what is the correct procedures and then discuss which is better and safer. I remember my driving school (BBDC) taught to use hazard lights for parking 10 years ago. Can someone confirm this? Another observation is that some cars (especially taxi) turn on their left or right signal when they were coming to a stop on the roadside. I am pretty sure it should be hazard lights in such case. Not sure if it is because one side of the light is faulty but this happens quite often.
  7. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/government-to-conduct-trial-of-mobile-app-for-parking-charges-8848624 Government to conduct trial of mobile app for parking charges File photo of a carpark in Singapore (Photo: Francine Lim) 15 May 2017 04:51PM(Updated: 15 May 2017 05:10PM) Share this content SINGAPORE: The Government will be conducting a trial of a mobile application that will allow motorists to pay for their parking charges using their mobile devices. For a start, the app will be tested among public sector officers in May and June, at selected public car parks in the city area that still require paper coupons, announced the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), the Housing and Development Board (HDB) and the Government Technology Agency of Singapore (GovTech) in a joint news release on Monday (May 15). The car parks include those in Amoy Street, Circular Road, Emerald Hill Road and Duxton Road. "The mobile app will provide more convenience for motorists as they need not return to their vehicles to add more coupons to extend their parking session," said the agencies. All motorists have to do is key their vehicle number into the app, select the car park, indicate their parking duration and start parking. According to the agencies, the app automatically calculates the charges that motorists have to pay based on their parking duration on a per minute basis. A refund will be given if they choose to leave the carpark earlier than the duration that was keyed in. Likewise, motorists can extend the duration of their parking session without having to return to the vehicle. Among the issues authorities said they will be testing is the payment module, "to be confident of its robustness before we extend the trial to the general public." They added that the plan is to extend the trial to members of the public later this year. Source: CNA/am
  8. I would like to highlight my case. Last Saturday, I went to Khatib Central to pick up my wife after she has completed her CNY shopping. My brother borrowed my car so I had to drive my L200. It had a height of 1.95m (after installation of airport light beacons for use in within Changi Airport), i was not able to enter the MSCP located at Blk 848A as it had a height limit of 1.8m. To make matters worse, there were no space to park at the roadside or the loading & unloading lots as the road itself was congested. Thus I did not have a choice but to park at the Season Parking Lot located at Level 1 as its height limit is 2.15m. I came back to my vehicle with my wife to realise that I have received a fine and when i got home i proceed to file an appeal. I am ok to have my appeal rejected but the grounds that it had been rejected is rather lacking in common sense. It was due to the fact that there is people complaining. If it was like you are a repeat offender or your vehicle is below 1.8m you can definitely park at the MSCP, i still can accept it. I can't park anywhere else and I cant possibly ram through the height limit gantry and damage HDB's property. From now on, I will go on foot to Khatib Central but I hope that public servants can solve problems like renovating the carpark to solve the parking problem and not resort to summons. A smart society solves the problem at the root not at the ends. I have since paid my fine
  9. A driver was spotted tailgating another car to enter and exit a carpark without paying, Stomp reported. Apparently this system of cheating works because the carpark gantry is unable to detect the second vehicle - which is too close, says the reader who highlighted the incident. The reader was at the Ang Mo Kio (AMK) Hub carpark when he witnessed a vehicle tailgating another car to enter the carpark for free. This incident occurred on Dec 15, 9pm. The reader told Stomp: "The owner of this vehicle (in the above photo) followed the vehicle in front closely and exited the carpark without paying his parking fee. "This tactic works and the 2nd vehicle will not be detected as another vehicle exiting the gantry," the reader added. "Carpark management usually will not pursue the matter further as the cost to investigate may not be viable. "To these vehicle owners who try to cheat the system: If you don't have money to park - don't drive! A spokesperson for AMK Hub's management said: "The current system has been designed to ensure the safety of drivers entering and exiting AMK Hub's carpark. "AMK Hub Mall Management will investigate incidents on a case-by-case basis and reserves the right to take appropriate legal action when necessary."
  10. Hi folks, Just wondering if anyone knows is there any place that is near to Changi Airport? Reason being i am travelling for only a few days and is really much more convenient for me to drive rather than to take cab. I am thinking Pasir Ris Park or those private housing estate at Tampines or Changi area. Not that i am trying to save money but i really need the vehicle when i returned. Thanks.
  11. Any shop can diagnose the sensors problem?
  12. For those who frequent this area to have mookata or shop at Sheng Siong nearby, please avoid parking by the road side (White zig zac or double yellow). Saw LTA officer there many times. Just earlier on, I stopped my car by the side to stretch my legs. I merely paced up and down the stretch of road (10min at most) and when I returned to my vehicle, the bike was parked right before my car. Gone case I thought. The officer was at a distance away. I didn't bother checking with him since he would have issued the summon long ago. It didn't cross my mind that there was no summon ticket! It was only after returning home then I realised that there wasn't any physical ticket. Upon checking my dashcam, I saw the officer looking around in front of my car. Not sure if he was being nice to give me a grace period. My vehicle definitely felt hot to the touch given the long drive prior to stopping. Lesson learnt- let your legs break or find a proper parking lot

And no, this is definitely not Chinese new year period ppl drive out to Malaysia. Been noticing since couple months back. Any similar sightings at your carpark?

Hey Folks, I work at Bt Merah (Jln Kilang) to be precise and when i asked Building Management for season parking they said that no more allocation for the unit as our office size is not too large to give out additional. Parking around the area is not too cheap - it all comes out to be around 7-9 bucks per day. I'm wondering if any of you might know of any hidden places around the hood. Let me know.. TIA
