  1. Now many moons have passed since our recent elections, PAP has emerged victorious. But it seems that many still resent the results and are lamenting about every government policy and the anti-FT sprit is high in this forum. My question: how many ex- keyboard warriors have since joined a political party? Or at least committed to make a monthly donation to the party of your choice? Anybody with experience to share?
  2. Checked w DA and AVA, only comprehensive cover. I heard nowadays 3rd party and comp only less than $100 diff in price? any agents can help pm me
  3. I was involved in a traffic accident whereby a pedestrian was involved. Not totally my fault and I have the right of the way. Anyway, as long as a car accident involved a pedestrian, the driver will be held liable no matter how. I reported the accident to my insurance company. The claim officer of my insurance company advised me not to go for private settlement as the pedestrian might jacked up the injury claim if that pedestrian comes to aware that can claimed from my insurance company. My NCD is reduced from 50% to 20% and the premium for my next year renewal quoted by my present insurance company had increased more than 2 times my present premium, even though there is no claim from the pedestrian yet. The claim officer explained a sum of money had been reserved for the injury claim as injury claim is opened for a period of about 5 to 6 years. The claim officer also added that if there is no claim from the pedestrian for 2 years, my NCD will reverted back to 50% and I will be refunded for the extra premium paid during these 2 years. I then asked the claim officer will I still get the refund if I switch to other insurance company. The claim officer said that I will still get the refund from other insurance company if there is no claim as that they will checked and verified with my present insurance company. It is the assurance of refund that I decided not to go for private settlement . I called another insurance company for a quotation for the my insurance renewal. They quoted me about the same amount of premium as what my present insurance company quoted me. However, they told me that there is no refund from them even there is no claim from the pedestrian. I then told them of all what the claim officer had told and assured of refund me, they still told me this is not the practice for their company. The only thing is my NCD will be inceased by 10% if there is no further accident claim, which is the normal practice for all company. If there is no refund at all, it seems that getting a private settlement might be better as my NCD will be reinstated back to 50% and my premium for next renewal will be affected. Besides, the pedestrian suffered very minor injury thus the amount to be paid most likely will not be high. What you guys think?
  4. Really? Hmmm... From CNA: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1174686/1/.html No "party politics" when appointing advisers: PA Posted: 04 January 2012 1023 hrs SINGAPORE: The People's Association (PA) said it does not get involved in "party politics" when appointing advisers to grassroots organisations (GROs). It was responding to media queries on whether Mr Anthony Loh, appointed on Tuesday as adviser to the Bedok Reservoir-Punggol grassroots organisations to replace former Foreign Minister George Yeo, will be fielded as a candidate in the next general election. PA said in appointing advisers, it selects the candidate best able to lead the GROs in serving the residents and it looks at three criteria - his ability to do the job, his passion for serving the community, and whether he has the support of grassroots leaders at large. Most importantly, he must also have the willingness to serve. PA said its mission and that of its GROs is to connect people to people; people to government; and government to people. PA and GROs aim to build social capital by bringing people from all backgrounds (across ages, races and estates) together to bond, to promote racial harmony and social cohesion. GROs provide platforms that facilitate interaction amongst residents and neighbours, helping them to deepen friendships, and strengthen mutual trust and support in the community. PA and GROs also help connect people to government, as well as government to people. GROs feedback to government issues that affect people; and GROs disseminate the thinking behind government policies, and why these policies are for the general good of the people. PA and GROs also help to promote government campaigns and implement government social programmes. Grassroots advisers lead and guide the GROs on the work of the PA. They are the link between government and people. - CNA/ck

  6. - this relic of malaysia's umno in singapore is imploding again and again. can't even hide contrabrand properly! i think they still attend umno general assemblies up north and cry to their "abang" umno malaysia about discrimination in singapore etc. http://www.todayonline.com/Singapore/Singa...-cigarette-raid The president of the Singapore Malay National Organisation (PKMS), Ali Asjadi, was arrested on Saturday morning following a raid by the Singapore Customs for contraband cigarettes. A Singapore Customs spokesman said three other men were also arrested in the operation along Changi Road, where the PKMS building is located. Singapore Customs seized a "sizeable quantity" of illicit cigarettes. The spokesman said: "As part of its routine operations to stamp out contraband cigarettes, Singapore Customs seized a sizeable quantity of contraband cigarettes along Changi Road on Saturday morning. "As a result of the operation, four men, including one Mr Ali bin Asjadi, have been arrested and charged in court. They are now under remand for Singapore Customs to further conduct its investigations." Ali, who is in his 50s, has been president of Singapore's only Malay-based political party for about a year, said PKMS deputy president Abu Mohamed. The 60-year-old freelance director in an oil services company added that he was unable to comment further until he knew "the precise details" but said he would be calling for an emergency meeting with other members tonight. Mr Abu said that a group of plain clothes Customs officers had visited the party's office within the PKMS building on Saturday at around 11am. They checked the president's office and asked to look at the accounts of the organisation. "If any member - even the president - is engaged in any criminal or unlawful activity, then he will be out of PKMS. I am worried for the organisation, that this is happening," Mr Abu said. 7. Recently my car was hit on the back, now claiming the other party... so the other party insurance company and my insurance appointed workshop will change my bumper n knock back my boot, but spray painting will cover only affected areas only. W/S aknowledged the end result will have slight different in colour tone due to old and new paint... in order to avoid, the entire car have to be re spray.... so end up I need to pay $700 My question is this the norm and is this fair I do know other workshop not the appointed one will do 100% claims and such issues will not happen as they will spray everything and claim everything from the third party insurancer. On top of that, I had done many run to reporting centre, my friend workshop (check cost), my insurance workshop thrice (let the other party surveyer check cost, leave car there and eventually collect again next week ) .... spend afew half days leave doing this somemore   : I think in future I will have to give it a thought which suppose to be the correct way The insurance industries kept saying claim are inflated due to all those above but honestly we working people due to time n saving our own pocket or smart people here may actually gain from this ordeal
  8. Hi folks, My friend went down to her authorized workshop for repairs and was given 2 choices. She is claiming from the 3rd party. Pictures n evidences was submitted during the report. 1. To claim to her insurance first so that her car can be expedite in a week. The authorized workshop will then claim against the 3rd party. Note that the workshop will not carry out any repairs if there are no clearance or approval from any of the Insurance involved. There will be loss of car period ie they will provide a car for her for at least 10 days for free. 2. To wait for the 3rd party insurance for clearance n approval. This choice will lengthen the duration for the car restoration. No car loss of use given. The advisor advised her to choose the first choice for the best option. But in addition to that she have to fork out an excess fee of $640 first in which she can reclaim from the 3rd party insurance that will take up until 6 mths. She was told that her insurance and NCD will not be affected once everything is cleared from the 3rd party. The advisor had assured her of high chances of winning the case as such choosing the first option is the best move to make.. She had signed for the first option as advised. Is this the norm for insurance claim against 3rd party or otherwise? Would like to seek views from forumers here.. Thanks!

  12. Quite clear thinking. ST Forum May 23, 2011 The line between party and nation THE existence of different political parties in a country is considered a hallmark of democracy. However, there is a vast difference between many Third World countries and First World countries in how the political system works. In some Third World countries, it is not just wholesome rivalry between parties but deep hostility that often manifests in assassination, detention and persecution. One admirable feature of some First World democracies is that when the election is over, the opponents shake hands and get down to work together for the greater good of the nation with little personal ill feelings. The interest of the nation prevails over that of the party. In other words, the line between the party and the nation is distinct. Not many Asian countries are able to observe that distinction thoroughly. In one general election here some time back, I was disappointed to see the leader of the winning party coming on television to warn the constituency that voted against the party that it would not enjoy the benefits other constituencies would. I feel that once a candidate is elected, he should serve all people without distinction. On National Day, I feel something amiss when People's Action Party parliamentarians show up in party uniform. National Day, unlike a party rally, is for the whole nation, and the celebration should signify a united nation. There is a Chinese saying that different roads can lead to the same destination. Even though there is a dominant one-party rule in Singapore, I hope different parties can see clearly the way to the ultimate, overriding interest of the nation. I was very impressed by an unusual phenomenon in Malaysia in the 1970s when Dr Tan Chee Khoon, an opposition leader, was appointed chairman of the University of Malaya Council. We are a small country; talent are hard to come by and they should not have a party label. I hope all our parliamentarians who have something valuable to contribute can be fully made use of in our government regardless of their party backgrounds. Dr Ong Siew Chey
  13. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1128892/1/.html SINGAPORE : Workers' Party Chairman Sylvia Lim has resigned from her teaching position at Temasek Polytechnic. In a statement on Saturday, she said she tendered her resignation on Friday, after more than 12 years of service. Ms Lim expects her workload to increase as Member of Parliament (MP) for Aljunied Group Representation Constituency (GRC), after the Workers' Party's win in the recent General Election. At Temasek Polytechnic, she taught full-time and part-time students. She also co-ordinated continuing education initiatives for adult learners. Ms Lim said that in the last five years as a Non-Constituency Member of Parliament, working hours have been spent on parliamentary activities, such as sittings and the occasional overseas trip. She decided that it would not be fair to the polytechnic's management, colleagues and students for her to continue in her post at Temasek Polytechnic as an elected MP. She said that while the polytechnic's management has supported these national platforms, she foresees the years ahead as an elected MP to be even more demanding. Ms Lim said that she has mixed feelings about leaving and thanked the polytechnic's management and colleagues for their understanding and friendship.
  14. From Yahoo! News SINGAPORE: With an eye on the next General Election (GE), the Workers' Party's (WP) top leadership made a strategic decision late Thursday night to select a younger member for its second Non-Constituency Member of Parliament (NCMP) seat. Unfortunately, the move prompted veteran central executive committee member and party treasurer Eric Tan to quit. In an exclusive interview with Today late Thursday night, as he drafted a statement for the media, he said: "I feel betrayed." The WP is expected to officially announce on Friday which of its candidates will be accepting the NCMP seats. The WP is entitled to two NCMP seats - one for 46-year-old Yee Jenn Jong, who lost narrowly in the single-seat of Joo Chiat and the other for one of the five members of its East Coast Group Representation Constituency (GRC) team. The Thursday night meeting at Hougang Town Council saw the WP's central executive committee vote to hand the second NCMP seat to the party's assistant webmaster, 34-year-old Gerald Giam. This was the first election the IT consultant, who joined WP in 2009, has contested. He was part of the team in East Coast GRC which was led by 55-year-old Mr Tan. Mr Tan, a former banker who is now a private equity fund manager, said: "I am disappointed that Low (Thia Khiang) and part of the CEC have decided to go against the people's wishes, citing party renewal as their reason. "I too, also believe in the renewal of the party but in an orderly manner, with succession plans. "But not like this, dropped like a bomb." Mr Tan added: "I have helped build the East Coast team since 2005 and was the only one remaining after the 2006 election. I fought on and rebuilt the team, helping to gain a solid result for the party," he said. "I wanted the NCMP post so that I would be able to be the voice of the people." said Mr Tan, who is also the chairman of the party's Eastern Area Committee. The 45.17 per cent polled by the WP in East Coast GRC has led many to speculate that the WP has set its sight on making the constituency its next major battleground in five years' time. Mr Tan is also understood to have played a role in attracting corporate lawyer Chen Show Mao and Mr Yee to join the party. It is not known if the opposition party might reconsider its decision on Friday. Regards,
  15. If you can't beat them join them.... George Yeo, fight for us if you really love us Singaporeans.... Join the Workers' Party or some other opposition.... Lim Hwee Hua too can join WP...

  17. For the sake of party and country, they should select a new PM to lead the lightening party.
  18. Hi all, May I urged all to refrain using the term "Opposition Party". We should all start using the term, "Alternative Party". The term Opposition Party is outdated given the current political climate and it doesn't reflect correctly on them. Thank you very much to all . Regards,

  20. For those who still read the print national newspaper forum, especially those who also read the online version, notice anything different today? The print edition have got 8 articles whereas the online version 14 articles for today. http://www.straitstimes.com/ST+Forum/ST+Forum.html And of the 8 print ones, 6 are on the GE & apparently all pro-party with travel-a-lot-compare-we-should-be-grateful, start-with-nothing-those-days-thanks-to-ruling-party-today-successful & too-valuable-to-lose-minister-in-an-election type of motherhood statements. For the online version, 12 are on the GE & 11 are pro-ruling party articles with similar content as the print edition one. Is it due to the newspaper report yesterday that the ground was not sweet? Or is it due to our PM having to apologize 3 times in as single rally speech yesterday? Whatever it is, I feel that today's edition of the forum is not objective & if I may say so, rather biased. Your views?
  21. it seems they are convincing more and turning the tables at the last min! The tears, apologies, chats is working !!!

  23. http://www.facebook.com/pap.sg Welcome to my webchat! This is my first time doing this So please dont flame me, I'm a newbie :-) I see many of you are interested in how we can engage youths more Shall we start with this?
  24. Copy-Pasting the whole note for easy reading. I happened to stumble upon this note by Janice Huang which has been making rounds on facebook. I thought it was well written and a good indication of how some youths are reacting to the current approach of the WP in their campaigning. Nonetheless, I find myself disagreeing with the main points which she tries to bring up. For those who has not seen the original note, it can be found here: http://www.facebook.com/notes/janice...50279658988765 It might be good to read the original note before reading this note. The 2 points she brought up are: 1. The battle for Aljunied GRC is NOT the battle for "Singapore's future". 2. The WP is only ensuring its OWN survival, not the survival of the opposition. I would like to point out that these 2 points are only half-accurate. Here's why. 1. The battle for Aljunied GRC is NOT the battle for "Singapore's future". The battle for Aljunied GRC, or any other parliamentary seat for that matter, IS about Singapore's future, and should NEVER be about the welfare for the residents. Singapore, unlike many other countries in the world, is actually very, very homogeneous. The majority of Singaporeans are either: studying, working for a GLC, MNC, SME or the civil service, doing National Service or retired. Unlike other countries, we do not have Agriculture vs. Industry lobbies, nor do we have say, Mining vs. Environmental groups jostling for political power. This means that the elected government would never have to face trade-offs due to partisan demands unlike in other countries. This also means, that the elected government would never have any trouble in looking after the welfare of Singaporeans, NO MATTER THEIR AREA OF RESIDENCE. Unfortunately, the PAP government, by linking votes to upgrading and estate enhancement pledges, has made voters myopic and only focused on their immediate vicinity instead of the greater Singapore. Improving the lives of all Singaporeans is the job of the government, period. Not only Aljunied GRC residents, all voters must bear the responsibility for
