  2. http://www.straitstimes.com/GeneralElectio...ory_662196.html This is sad news ... must be tough on the NSP team at this time to deal with this as well as the campaigning.

  4. And then he spoke again... From CNA: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1124971/1/.html GE: PAP will remain "strongest party" in Singapore, says MM Lee By S Ramesh | Posted: 26 April 2011 1857 hrs SINGAPORE: Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew said he believes the People's Action Party (PAP) will remain the strongest party in Singapore. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Mr Lee said there may be a few seats for the opposition either as constituency or non-constituency members. That is because Singapore has introduced new rules to allow up to nine of the "best losers" from the opposition to be in Parliament, so that the opposition's voice is heard. When asked about the main issues for voters, he said they include the cost of living and the cost of housing for young couples. Mr Lee noted that while many new HDB flats are being built, they cost more because they are better designed and more elegant. Singaproeans also do not like waiting and they blame the immigrants for pushing up the prices of the homes. Mr Lee added that HDB flat buyers can buy off the open market from owners who want to sell their HDB flats. However, he stressed the economy is doing well, and Singapore has also raised living standards, employment prospects, education for children and the schools and tertiary institutions. The government has also catered for both the top-end and lower-end for those not academically inclined. -CNA/wk
  5. To think that our nation's fate is in the hands of 21 men & women in the cabinet is really chilling to the bone. And in extreme cases, it is down to 11 folks determining what happens to you, me, our future & our children's future if there is also a democratic system of majority-wins during their cabinet meetings. How did I ever come to this assumption? With a 82-2 overwhelming majority in parliament, whatever decisions/bills these 21 people comes out with WILL BECOME LAW unless the party whip is lifted. And even if the party whip is lifted, there is no guarantee that the ruling party MPs will vote with their own conscience if there is actually a group think thingy going on or they vote for these bills simply out of fear of antagonising their party colleagues or superiors. So regardless of what the background i.e. humble or otherwise, the potential i.e. minister-cailbre or otherwise or their stated convictions i.e. wanting to listen more, willing to change or otherwise, the present slate of eager & earnest newbies together with the existing batch of MPs will LL have to vote along the party line if the whip is not lifted. The idea of 9 NCMPs provided after the amendments to our constitution sounds great on paper. They can debate all they can but plays absolutely no part in deciding our nation's fate as they are only pseudo MPs & cannot vote at all. We are all pragmatic people & know the present government, despite all the apparently misgivings about transparency, accountability & dominance, is still functioning properly. Who can say, however, few GEs down the road, that their substance will still be the same? And if we are still relying on a A-Team formula, what happens if the gov of the day turns rogue then? Will it be so simple as to some say, just vote them out? Who is to stop these jokers from enacting bills to entrench them in perpetual control of the country? Will our future generations need to do what many of the Middle East folks are doing now to get things back in order? So my message is the same as what the ruling party is urging you now: THINK CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU CAST THAT PRECIOUS VOTE COME MAY 7... Just my 2 cts...

  10. I have a question here seeking the experience fellow forumers here: A car collided into my car. I claimed from my insurance first before my workshop helped me to claim my Excess and Lost of Use from the other insurance company. After half a year. I was inform by my insurance company that the other party's insurer had fully (100%) re-imbursed my insurance company. Later my workshop informed me that the 3rd party insurance company is only willing to pay me 50% of the total Excess plus Lost of Use claim. Is that normal practice of the insurance company? Or is the workshop trying to take 50% of my claim? Please advise. Many thanks in advance.

  14. Guest kicked out of 'sex party' CAIRNS (Australia) - A TOURIST was forcibly removed from a North Queensland resort on Wednesday after starting a 'mini riot'. John Harrison and his wife were staying at the White Cockatoo resort in Mossman, north of Cairns, located in the world heritage Daintree Rainforest National Park. The White Cockatoo resort is known as a nudist haven reported The Cairns Post newspaper and had advertised a month long 'sex party' as part of a promotion deal to increase visitor numbers. According to police reports the Harrison's were involved in argument with the resort's owner after Mr Harrison, 55, refused to take off his clothes. Tony Fox, the owner of the resort, said that Mr Harrison was 'disrespectful' to the other guests who were all naked as party of the resort's unusual dress code. An arguement ensued and Mr Fox asked Mr Harrison to leave, getting staff to pack the couple's bags and put them in reception while they were having dinner. "Mr Fox asked me why I was dressed in front of other people and claimed it was disrespectful," said Mr Harrison. "He then stormed away and said 'Stop being a f---head'." Mr Fox accused Mr Harrison of threatening to punch him and said he was within his rights to evict guests who behaved in that manner. "The four females and myself and everybody else ... everybody without exception was nude and he walked up with a beer in his hand fully clothed," Mr Fox said. Police were called to the resort and Mrs Harrison was escorted to her room to claim her purse which was not in her bags. Police are not investigating the matter.

  17. Democrats propose a fairer COE system Tuesday, 14 December 2010 The recent announcement that the Government intends to slow the growth of the car population in Singapore has resulted in a hefty jump in COE prices. The latest bid for cars in Category A (1600 cc and below) is $47,604 in December compared to $39,000 in November - a jump of 22%. The existing system is highly unsatisfactory and in dire need of an overhaul for two fundamental reasons: One, it pits those who are financially powerful against those who are not. The system does not take into consideration the fact that working folks may have as great a need for private transport as those who are in the high-income bracket. For example, a couple who needs a car to run their small family business, ferry their children to and from school, and take care of their elderly parents would certainly have a greater need than another couple who already owns two cars but wants to buy a third for their teenage son. In such a set-up, a richer family would always out-bid a poorer family even though the poorer family may have a greater need for driving a car. Two, it must be realised
  18. From Aviva website...... Q: Do you provide Third Party Fire and Theft insurance plan? A: No. We only provide a fully Comprehensive Insurance Policy as we want to insure you and your vehicle as comprehensively as possible. Anyone here still go for comprehensive even fully paid old car? I notice some companies do not hv 3rd party coverage. eg Aviva and DirectAsia. Is the reason as above or its a business decision cos not profitable? BTW, i notice those who provide 3rd party cover seems to price close to comprehensive cover. Again, to discourage 3rd party cover? Is this another case of motorist at the loosing end?

  20. I know this is just a dream. If a 60km stretch of German Autobahn can locked down over last weekend for a party, why not doing that on some Singapore e-way? How about ECP? Autobahn shuts down to host giant "no-cars allowed" party Autobahn was 'car-less' for hours on Sunday as more than 3 million people celebrated a cultural event on the famous highway. By AP / July 18, 2010 Berlin Germany's autobahns are renowned for average speeds well in excess of 80 miles (130 kilometers) an hour. But the average dropped near zero Sunday as tens of thousands of people sat at a 37-mile table for a cultural celebration titled, appropriately enough, "Still Life." Cars were strictly verboten. "Attention on the A40," a radio traffic report warned. "There is a 60-kilometer (37-mile) closure between Duisburg and Dortmund due to the longest table in the world." A festival spokesman said an estimated three million people turned out amid fine weather, one million of them with their bicycles, to celebrate on the highway between Dortmund and Bochum, in western Germany. Tens of thousands sat at the table, which was made up of 20,000 individual tables, spokesman Oliver Haenig, said. The highway, which crosses North Rhine-Westphalia state, is normally one of Europe's busiest. The event was part of a wider cultural festival celebrating the Ruhr region. It was chosen by the European Union this year as a European Capital of Culture 2010

  22. Hi all, I am claiming third party. The workshop I am using ask me to select an equivalent CC car for replacement car rental and submit the bill for them to claim. I like to get some opinion from brothers here, especially those experience in claims one on: 1) my car under repair is Saab 9-3. do you think there is a limit on the absolute amount of car rental or brands I can rent? hee, hoping to try interesting models 2) in the past workshop settle car rental for me, but this time round, this workshop seems to be less experienced and ask me to source my own car rental. but if i pay the car rental, they claim under their name and it becomes their income then how? or as long as car rental invoice shows my name, insurer will have to pay to me? 3) any car rental company with more interesting brands of cars (not those that offers standard range like toyota camry etc) to recommend?
