  2. -2011 Jetta - Volkswagen Group (VW) has finally signed an agreement with a Malaysian company to manufacture its cars in Malaysia. The partnership with DRB-HICOM (DRB) will be a joint venture agreement with DRB holding a 70% stake in the venture while VW the remaining 30% and the total investment of this would be around RM1 billion. It will enable VW to manufacture cars in Malaysia as well as throughout South East Asia. What will happen firstly is that the local assembly of the 2011 VW Passat and 2011 VW Jetta models will start rolling out of DRB
  3. Hi one and all.... i'm held between these 2 cars.... and would wanna know what would your choices be.... i personally like the Passat CC purely for it's external sleek looks.... however, the boring interior design, as well as cramp rear seats, make this car an impractical car especially for family use.... as for the Ford Mondeo, i'm really looking forward to the 2.0EcoBoost model with 201bhp and 6AT.... the outgoing 2.3Duratec 161bhp just isn't enough for the huge Mondeo body.... i like the Mondeo for its executive looks without breaking the bank, as well as a unique interior, that is both well made and rather stylish at the same time.... the rear seats are also really spacious enough for my family to fit in....
  4. Sunday Times journalist Gavin Conway has set a world record by driving a Volkswagen Passat 1,531 miles (2464 km) on a single tank of fuel from Maidstone, England to Calais. The Passat was fitted with VW's1.6 TDI (105 PS/ 250Nm) diesel engine with BlueMotion technology that includes a stop/start system for improved fuel-economy. The car on test was a standard production model with no modifications made. Conway used exactly 77.25 liters of diesel fuel on the drive which translate to a fuel-economy figure of 3.1 liter/100 km - way above the standard combined cycle rating of 4.4 liter/100 km (or 22.7km/l). For comparison, the Toyota Prius, with its much more complicated drivetrain, has a fuel consumption rating of 25.6km/l. The event was documented by representatives of the Guinness Book of World records who confirmed the record. The BlueMotion technology on the Passat also includes lowered ride height, low roll-resistance tires, aerodynamic bodywork and programmed battery charging. BlueMotion technology is also available on the Polo and Golf models. For readers

  6. VW cars are made like Volvos of yesteryear (Remember the Volvo 240 & 740?). My friend was in his VW Passat waiting for the lights to turn green on a gentle slope when he nodded off and lifted his foot off the brake. His Passat moved forward and he was awoken with a bump. The front of his Passat had hit a SBS bus rear. The damage? The SBS (Volvo) bus bumper dented in but VW Passat was unscattered except for a hair line crack on the bumper. I was surprised and amazed. See pictures. My next car would definitely be a VW.
  7. The folks over at Auto Express have managed to get their hands on a leaked photo of the next generation Volkswagen Passat. The car is set to debut at this year's Paris Motor Show and so far the German manufacturer has been quiet about exactly what we can expect from the mid-sized fighter. From the leaked photo, it looks like the company will be giving the Passat a dose of familial styling. A rectangular chrome-laced grille replaces the black plastic of the current generation. The headlights looks like enlarged version of those found on the Golf. Judging from the above photo, its shouts one word
  8. From Yahoo! News: Malaysia's Proton hints on VW tie-up, posts profit KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia
  9. According to Auto International, Volkswagen is set to release the latest update its Passat mid-size sedan at the upcoming Paris Motor Show. Further, the German automaker could have both the sedan and wagon versions already in European dealerships before the end of the year. If there's any truth to the rumor, the next Passat will get new bodywork but will share it basic structure with the current car, with major elements such as the roof going completely unchanged. In keeping with VW's upscale theme for the Passat, the next-gen model is expected to offer such luxuries as reversing cameras, active cruise control and intelligent lighting. Power will surely come from a number of gasoline and diesel engines, most employing some form of forced induction and displacing between 1.2 and 2.0 liters. In what appears to be a growing industry trend, larger V6 engines are said to be gone from the specifications list, although a hybrid and full electric model are supposedly planned for the next full redesign for the 2015 model year.
  10. All 3 cars are selling at around the 125K range, which will you go for ? I think Opel Insignia will be priced out. ( worst since they are not bringing in the sports tourer, which I think looks much better than the sedan) I saw the car, it's good but I dont think good enough as it's priced at 128K.. For practicality, I will go for the Superb 2 estate... For the wow factor, I will go for the passat cc 5 seater. The only thing against the passat cc 5 seater is the fact I would prefer a car more suitable for a family with 2 young child. I think it's still possible, but of course a large sedan or estate version should be better. Also, the passat has omv of around 29K, and the SE told me the cc will be marked up by ~ 5k compared with the 4 seater version. Too much profit margin for them!! and we already know in Europe the difference bet the 5 and 4 seater version is only 100 Euro !! But the passat cc really looks I think the superb 2 estate ( coming in this month ) will be the best value for money. Good spec, practical and looks not too bad but of course the opel insignia sports tourer will win hands down on the look department. So, which will you guys go for?
  11. The Volkswagen Passat EcoFuel has recently edged out the Toyota Prius for the title of "greenest car in Europe." The International Automobile Federation (FIA) sanctioned the Eco Test that evaluated a number of cars. The winning Passat is powered by a 1.4-liter TSI inline-four fueled by natural gas. VW's TSI engines are turbocharged and direct injected. Both the Passat and Prius scored 92 out of 100 on the test, but the less expensive natural gas fuel system gave the VW the edge. The test evaluated emissions of CO2, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides and hydrocarbons. The EcoFuel TSI engines are available in many of VW's European models including the Golf, Touran and others. With the result of such a test, I wonder if hybrid cars are relevant going forward. They are more expensive and complex to build than a normal car of similar dimensions and engine output. Its resale value could be a question too as I believe that most used car buyers are more comfortable with a 'proper' petrol driven vehicle in terms of reliability. Once again, congratulations to VW!
  12. Ok guys...Just a few questions... Will insurance for conti cars be higher den Jap Makes? Cos i heard for insurance premiums, honda premium is higher den its siblings toyota n nissan blah blah.... Den wad the diff between the VW Passat CC and VW passat?
  13. the Passat CC coupe has a few competitors. I'm evaluating the cars and hope to get some opinions.
  14. Vw Passat TSI EcoFuel Sedan Concept unveiled at Bologna Vw Passat EcoFuel ConceptA sedan version of its earlier Passat TSI EcoFuel wagon concept was recently introduced by Volkswagen, featuring the vehicle at the Bologna Motor Show this week. The vehicle can utilize either gasoline or natural gas for fuel, the EcoFuel vehicles are propelled by a 1.4 liter TSI engine that generates about 150 hp (112 kW). The engine comes with both a supercharger and a turbocharger operating in sequence to offer relatively high energy yields from its small facility. To permit the engine to manage the extra loading encountered due to the burning of natural gas instead of gasoline, considerable alterations have been done. The valves, piston rings and the pistons themselves are all upgraded to cope, at the same time the turbocharger has also been substituted with a smaller unit. A new management computer controls the switch between typical fuel and natural gas. More details and photos after the jump! A trio of tanks with a total capacity of 22 kilograms located under the trunk stores the natural gas. This is supported by a 31 liter tank of gasoline. The Passat TSI EcoFuel is given a theoretical range of around 500 miles (800km) between these two fuel tanks. It has a ceiling speed of 130mph and an accelaration rate of 0 to 62mph in 9.8 seconds, making it practical for daily use. In typical situations the car utilizes 4.5kg of natural gas per 100km. Outfitted with a DSG dual-clutch gearbox, the Passat EcoFuel will discharge lower than 120g of CO2/km, roughly equivalent to a much smaller compact hatchback. Although VW has yet to announce its plans for producing its EcoFuel technology, considering its remarkable fuel efficiency it will come soon enough. Source: VW Passat EcoFuel
  15. Back up 2 years. In China the Passat from the B5.5 variant they updated it in 2007-2008 the Skoda stretched design which was basically a Skoda Superb with a revamp grill and rear. (funny thing is that the Superb is base on the Passat B5 but stretched and the internals are different. ) Fast forward to 2009, this is the updated model for 2009 which has a revised front lamps, grills and rear but internally is still a Superb. 17. VW recalls 410,000 Passats in U.S. market Fri Apr 4, 2008 5:29pm EDT Email | Print | Share| Reprints | Single Page| Recommend (0) [-] Text [+] http://www.reuters.com/article/domesticNew...431773220080404 DETROIT (Reuters) - Volkswagen AG is recalling some 410,000 Passat sedans sold in the United States due to potential problems with heat shields and fuel line components, the German automaker said on Friday. Europe's largest carmaker said it would voluntarily recall all gasoline-powered Passats it had sold from the 1999 through 2005 model years for inspection and possible repair. The wide recall marks a setback for VW at a time when it has set ambitious targets for growth in the U.S. market and is considering building a new auto plant in North America. Volkswagen said some Passat vehicles with an automatic transmission have an underbody heat shield that could be subject to damage, creating a risk if it touches the exhaust system. Other vehicles will be inspected for potential damage to a fuel tank ventilation valve and a fuel line, VW said. Volkswagen said no accidents or injuries have been reported because of the defects. VW advised owners and drivers of the Passat sedans covered by the recall to go immediately to the nearest dealership or certified repair shop if they smell gasoline. VW will issue recall notices to Passat owners by the end of May, it said.
  18. ok... one more. surprised that there's no discussion on this sleek car. looks like VW is really into tan leather these days... The passat cc will be available with the choice of a 160 hp 1.8-litre TSI unit, a 2.0-litre turbocharged FSI engine and a range topping 3.6-litre V6 FSI model producing 300 hp and will go on sale in the 2nd quarter of 2008.
  19. NHTSA to probe Volkwagen Passat engine fires Associated Press WASHINGTON -- The government has upgraded an investigation into the Volkswagen Passat after receiving dozens of reports of engine fires. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in a posting on its Web site Tuesday that there had been 78 reports of engine fires and two injuries. The German automaker has received 14,850 warranty claims over the engine fires, the government said. The investigation, which began in May, is focused on about 345,000 Passat sedans from the 2000-2003 model year. NHTSA said many of the complaints attribute the fires to a failure of the ignition coil. Volkswagen has provided the government with information on the vehicle's three different engines and ignition systems. The investigation was upgraded to allow additional analysis. VW spokesman Keith Price said the automaker was conducting its own investigation along with NHTSA. http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artic...PDATE/710020444

  23. The new Volkswagen long-wheel based Passat looks to uncanningly like a Superb with an Audi A4-looking behind? But anyways by right the Superb is based of the original Passat, are they a long running production line, especially that now that Volkswagen in China is picking up production of Skodas in China, parts wise and Chasis wise a very smart move, keeps inventory down. The interior is just tooooooo Superb don't you think? Dose this mean that all our Superbs has a potential to add on this Passat body kit? Anyways here are some pics from the web for your enjoyment and amusement.
