  1. sadly i am in the 18% :( MORE than 82 per cent of people working in Singapore received a salary increase in 2011, according to a global survey of 3,200 professionals conducted by Robert Walters. Results from the survey reveal that 40 per cent of those surveyed received a pay rise of between 1 to 5 per cent, 20 per cent received between 6 and 10 per cent, 14 per cent received between 11 and 20 per cent and 8 per cent received more than 21 per cent. Says Andrea Ross, managing director at Robert Walters Singapore and Malaysia: 'After coming off such a strong year of economic growth in 2010 in Singapore, it was not surprising that the salary levels increased across all sectors. The large increases in 2011 predominately came from the non-financial services industry, as salaries within the financial services sector had a sharp increase last year (2010).' She adds: 'Another factor contributing to the increase in salaries at the start of the year would be an added focus of companies in trying to retain their top talent by providing competitive remuneration.' The survey also reveals that, globally, economies in Asia saw the highest pay rises - 45 per cent of respondents from China, 26 per cent of respondents in Thailand, 24 per cent of respondents in Malaysia, 22 per cent of respondents in Singapore and 21 per cent of respondents received salary increases greater than or equal to 10 per cent. Comparatively, a large proportion of professionals in western nations reported receiving no pay rise at all during 2011 - 65 per cent in Ireland, 49 per cent in New Zealand, 39 per cent in Belgium and 35 per cent in Australia.

  6. I noticed recently when i travelled on few expressways recently that some guys are on the overhead bridge, using their tripod or handheld camera / camcorder to record the cars on the road. They are not wearing any similar type of uniform (plain clothes), neither were them TP. Take for example today, i travelled in KJE, i spotted them just after Tengah. I went all the way from KJE to TPE and spotted another one on the bridge. They just pretend not to do anything and stand few metres away from their camera. The camera was aiming at the cars on the road. They dont look like students on project, instead were adults

  8. Anyone read the article on Today online? It's the most disgusting and blantant manipulation of journalism by our MIWs. I was smirking as I was reading the article, and it crossed my mind that I could not remember what he has done for us after 12 years in service. A president who has been labelled the "people's president" who has not been elected by the people? I really got to hand it to the MIW propaganda machine for insulting our intelligence. It has sunk to a new low...

  12. lets face it... in any forum... there are a$$holes... pricks... idiots... retards... there are also a fair share of nice... friendly... helpful people... young and old... male and female... sooooo many types of people... BUT LET ME TELL YOU THERE ARE ONLY 2 TYPES OF PEOPLE... *1st Type... these people treat forums as if its like in real life... real personalities show... voice out and speak like as if normally while interacting with a fellow human being face to face... shows the same amount of respect to fellow forumers as in real life also... whatever the character, these are the real people who make the forum realistic... *2nd Type... useless keyboard heros who only hide behind the computer screen and talk big... the sky's the limit to how loud he/she can blow his/her horn... these people think "aiyah nobody will know who i am... i can pretend to be whoever i want..." these people speak through their a$$ most of the time... cause they think they are safe behind the computer... some of these ppl would not normally speak like this in real life... but behind the screen different altogether... luckily most of these ppl make the forum more interesting... NOW WHICH TYPE DO YOU THINK MCF HAS MORE OF?.... TYPE 1 OR 2 and why do you say/think that?...

  14. There have been rumours circulating about Aljunied GRC this few days. Will the residents in the 3 areas care to share your experience in the state of municipal activities? Hougang remains under WP so it should be fairly straightforward. Now I am curious to see if Potong Pasir resembles Aljunied GRC.

  17. http://yoursdp.org/index.php/news/singapor...le-in-singapore Not enough good people in Singapore? Friday, 08 April 2011 Vincent Wijeysingha The PAP view that politics is about getting skilled people to run an administration is based on a wrong presumption. Politics is a perennial debate around values, about the important things in a community: whether we look after the elderly or buy guns; whether we house people or see public housing as a means to make a profit; whether we keep the cost of living manageable or award ourselves millions of dollars in bonuses. The administration of a country is the next step in the political process: once you have determined the things of value, then you seek out the best civil servants to operationalise them. The idea that Singapore only has a few hundred people capable of serving the nation is an old idea propagated by former PM Lee Kuan Yew, and is based on his now discredited eugenic views. If the current PM is saying that we only have a few people able to lead this country, he is implicitly saying that our education system, which the PAP has presided over for the last fifty-two years, has failed. The political arena is a contest in which different parties put forward alternative scenarios for society which the people then choose at a general election. In Singapore, the PAP repeats this same argument: That we don
  18. I was driving down lane 1 of PIE when I heard honking from behind. Upon checking the rear view mirror, I saw a motorbike directly behind me and a blue car partly filtered into lane 1. Obviously blue car driver had forgotten to check blind spot before filtering. Blue car then switched back to lane 2 and drove almost parallel with my car. Biker was no doubt blinded by road rage because he suddenly dashed into the gap between our two cars so he could give the other guy the stare. Mind you this was one of those bigger bikes that had stowage boxes at the side so the distance between our 3 vehicles was literally in mm. Isn't it ironic how having narrowly escaped death, this biker then willingly put himself within a sliver of becoming a meat sandwich? Blue car then filtered to lane 3 then 4, with angry biker still in pursuit and still giving the stare. Another incident happened at night at Marina area, near the entrance to ECP. Not sure what started it, but car A was tailing car B aggresively, horning and flashing away. Driver of car A then lowered the window and started throwing stuff at car B before giving the 3rd finger salute and speeding off.
  19. i really sympatize with Mr Chiam. He has no proper office to conduct his meet the people session. yet he has been doing it for the past decade. this is called passion for serving.

  21. LTA should follow this concept =============================== http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/A...ory_640117.html China rewards people who video-capture traffic violations CHINA - FOR some Wuhan citizens, earning 6,000 yuan (S$1,160) a week is no longer a difficult thing. They can simply stand in major traffic junctions, shooting video of traffic violations and report them to traffic bureau for a bonus, according to a Feb 28 cnhubei.com report. One Wuhan Traffic Bureau (WTB) official said they have awarded over 5 million yuan to cameramen for 100,000 effective cases by the end of December last year. This year, the WTB will continue encouraging more cameramen to assist in the supervision of traffic violation to improve the city's traffic order, the official said. There are six types of traffic violation cases, according to the WTB official notice published Mar 18 last year. They include: hit-and-run, intoxicated driving, running a red light, random lane changing, counter-direction driving and driving with fake license plates. The highest bonus for one case report with video of clear car-plate numbers and sufficient evidence can reach 5,000 yuan. The lowest is 10 yuan, according to the notice. Xiao Zhang (alias), one professional cameraman, told a reporter that although the reward seems decent, he also has to invest huge money on film equipment. He bought a 4000-yuan DV and professional tripod, a compact storage card with a huge capacity, and other equipment which cost him about 7,000 yuan. 'There are more camermen standing in the street competing for the bonus, and therefore it isn't easy to earn money in the business,' Mr Zhang said. Being a hidden cameraman is also dangerous. The cameramen risk being hurt by traffic violaters once they realise they've been shot, he said. -- CHINA DAILY/ANN
  22. Ever happened you fetch your family members of colleagues and when they open doors, they just clipped the adjacent vehicle? What would you do? Happened to me at least 4 times already over the year or so, thinking about it makes me feel apologetic, sian and pissed at the same time, although its not my fault. When I park, I always check if my parking is balanced between the 2 adjacent lots and asked passengers if the gap is OK for them. If I can help it I will help to shield the other car by placing my fingers at the door edge so that my fingers act as the cushion (especially where my young kid sits). But I can be only at one door at a time. Sometimes I see people open car doors very scary. Sometimes I just near my car also witness other people open door bang my car and just walked off as if nothing happen. I understand that in Singapore, parking lots are small so it is pretty inevitable that such incidents happen, but its the nonchalant attitude of the people. Why have us become like that, first world aspiration but still stuck with third world attitude, declining civic-mindedness.
